Monster Energy is an American brand of energy drink marketed and distributed by Hansen Natural Corporation (run by CEO Rodney C. Sacks) is a NASDAQ listed company, of Corona, California. Though Monster Energy is not widely advertised in the media it receives a large amount of recognition from its sponsorship of various sporting events. Hansen Natural Corporation announced a distribution agreement with Anheuser-Busch in the U.S.[1] and Cadbury-Bebidas, S.A. de C.V. in Mexico.[2] Hansen Natural Corporation has recently announced a distribution deal with PepsiCo Canada.[3] Carbonated Monster Energy drinks are not Kosher[4], although the coffee beverages bear the hechsher of the OU. Beginning on November 10, 2008, Monster will now be distributed by CCE, Coca Cola United, and other Coke bottlers in many markets. Contracts with existing distributors were bought out in these markets.

Flavors and sizes

In 2002, the available flavors were "Original", "Lo-Carb" , "Assault", and "Khaos". The "original" is packaged in a green can, while "Lo-Carb" is packaged with a blue color scheme. "Assault," an assorted cola/Monster flavor, is in a red, camouflage themed can. "Khaos" has a citrus flavor, and is packaged in an orange can.

Monster is available in several different can styles and sizes. There is the standard 8.3 oz or 16 oz can, Billabong XXL can (24 oz) in honor of the Billabong XXL surf contest, the BFC (32 oz), as well as a resealable MEGA MONSTER (24 oz).

In 2007, the flavor "M-80" was introduced. It was packaged with a yellow color scheme. It had a mix of tropical and citrus flavors.

After the release of the BFC and "M-80", Monster introduced a new line of the drink called "Java Monster". These were all coffee flavored. There were three types at the time: "Mean Bean", "Big Black", and, "Loca Moca".

In early 2008, two new flavors, "Mixxd" and "Heavy Metal" were introduced. "Heavy metal" more commonly comes in a neon green 32 oz. can, and has a green apple taste only slightly different than that of the original flavor. "Mixxd" is packaged in purple cans and has a grape flavor.

During this time, Monster expanded their Java line by adding "Russian", "Irish Blend" , "Nut Up", "Lo-Ball", and "Chai Hai". This brings the "Java" line to a total of eight variants. "Big Black" was also renamed the less suggestive "Originale".

In late September Monster Energy released a energy shot entitled "Hitman" in a 89ml bottle.
