R. S. Mangalam is a panchayat town in Ramanathapuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Demographics

As of the 2001 Indian census,[1] R. S. Mangalam had a population of 11,044. Males constituted 49% of the population and females 51%. R. S. Mangalam had an average literacy rate of 67%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy was 73%, and female literacy was 62%; 12% of the population was below age 6.

R. S. Mangalam Big Tank is the second largest water storage tank in the State of Tamil Nadu [2][3][4]

Festivals

The most famous festival of R. S. Mangalam is Throvpathi Amman Temple festival. It is conducted by 18 villages. The festival is celebrated for more than 18 days. The highlight of the festival is Beman makeup (veemesam): the village people are made up like Bemen Throupathi round around[clarification needed] their village and then go to the temple[clarification needed]. At the end, Pookkuli festival is celebrated with the whole neighbor villages.[citation needed]
