Symphony B (Haydn)

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Double sharp (talk | contribs) at 08:33, 4 May 2016 (I daresay "number B" sounds moronic). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Joseph Haydn's Symphony 'B' in B-flat major, Hoboken I/108, was written between 1757 and 1760. It does not fall into the usual numbering scheme of Haydn's symphonies because it had later been published without its wind parts as a "Partita".[1]

It is scored for 2 oboes, bassoon, 2 horns, strings and continuo.

  1. Allegro molto, 4/4
  2. Menuetto & Trio. Allegretto, 3/4
  3. Andante in G minor
  4. Presto

The trio of the minuet contains a dialogue between solo viola and solo bassoon.[2]
