Quality Article
[edit]This seems to be a fairly well put together article. If there's anyone actively editing it it would be an excellent choice for a WP:GA nod. CJ 18:20, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]I think the article needs expansion in the first paragraph. It jumps from saying African Americans were central to the development of Omaha to stressing their high poverty rate. What has happened to industry and the economy of Omaha during its history?
Addition of a section dealing with the 1960's through the end of the 20th century might provide answers to questions arising from having the article end with a section on Race Riots. What changes have there been to the economy and population of Omaha? What has happened to education in the city? Why do African Americans have such a high poverty rate? What has been going on in the city since the time of the 1930's through 1950's when African Americans seemed to have a thriving community? --Parkwells 02:27, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
GA status
[edit]This article is on hold for 5 days. Please address these issues:
- the neighborhoods section is too short. Expand it or merge to another section.
- the refs are highly inconsistent (some only have urls, some retrieve dates, etc). See Harry S. Truman and Eagle Scout (Boy Scouts of America) for samples of good referencing.Sumoeagle179 20:39, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with File:Bob-gibson-1.jpg
[edit]The image File:Bob-gibson-1.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.

He was born in South Omaha, but his family moved to Minneapolis in 1913 after his father was attacked by whites. Then they moved to Chicago in 1915. He was affected by the 1919 riots, but joined the African Blood Brotherhood in Chicago in 1921/22?, partly at his older brother Otto's instigation as he already belonged to that and the Communist Party. Material and cites at his own article - connection to Omaha is pretty stretched by their move away.--Parkwells (talk) 23:18, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- I added a bit more. I think the fact that he spent his formative years in the city - 15 of them - is enough to prove connection. • Freechild'sup? 00:50, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Sidenote, isn't it interesting that both Haywood and Malcolm X's families were forced from the city? If you shared a citation that stated that with Haywood I have another for X, and the note could be added to the article. • Freechild'sup? 04:08, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
