I don't know who the anon above is, but he dumped this same monolith into the article at the top. The fact that the first line is "Jump to: Actress | Soundtrack | Self | Archive Footage" should be taken as proof that this was lifted verbatim from another source without accreditation, and 68.102.223.65 wasn't even attentive enough (or was too lazy) to even attempt to edit this mess. Unsourced, improperly formatted, too long in relationship to the rest of the article, added in the wrong place in the article (filmographies and other such lists belong at the end, not the beginning of the article before the intro). I have removed all this from the article. 71.200.89.119 (talk) 16:22, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Birth year?

[edit]

The year of birth at IMDb is 1932. The revision changing this to 1941 was made 01:40, 2004 Oct 2 by 64.136.49.227. I have seen references to birth dates in 1932, 1939, and 1941. Does anyone have an authoritative source for the actual birthdate? 1941 makes the most sense, if she went to CMU at a typical time, and graduated in her early 20s. --Mark McCartney (talk) 18:27, 2005 Jun 15 (UTC)

According to IMDB, one of her first television appearances was on The $64,000 Question in 1957, and if she had been born in 1941, that would have made her about 16-17 years old. We know she attended Carnegie Tech, a college offering four-year degrees. Unless she was a prodigy, she would have still been in high school at age 17. If born in 1932, she would have been 26, a bit old for a typical college student and someone breaking into modeling and show business. That leaves us with 1939, making her about 18-19 when she appeared on the game show and competed on the topic of Shakespeare. She would have been a freshman or sophomore in college then. According to Hal Erickson in All Movie Guide, "While studying drama at Carnegie Tech, she became an expert in Shakespeare ..." In television shows from the 1960s she looks 20-something, not 30-something. I think most Internet references putting her birth year at 1932 or 1941 have it wrong. 1939 seems to be the most likely year. The fact that there's so much uncertainty about her birthdate seems to indicate that she's cagey about revealing her age. —QuicksilverT @ 15:31, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
She is extremely cagey about her age. But alas she was born in 1933, definitely not 1941. She graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1955, not 1964, so unless she was a child genius... IMDb gives 1932 as the year of birth, but that was my mistake when I posted it. According to Intelius Feldon is (as of November 2009) 76 years old, thus 1933 was her year of birth. I don't mean to be a cad or ungentlemanly, but it would be wrong to leave intentionally inaccurate information is Wikipedia, which is an encyclopaedia, not a blog or fansite. P.S.: I know Intelius was not around back when the above editors were editing. Ah, the miracles and (sorry Barbara), the drawbacks of technology (Intelius). Please don't unilaterally change the year without bringing it up for discussion here.or the page will need to be protected. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 01:25, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the unsourced date of birth.
WP:BLPPRIVACY should take precedence over the speculation mentioned above. One of the comments above includes the statement "She is extremely cagey about her age." That is in harmony with the beginning statement of WP:BLPPRIVACY, "With identity theft a serious ongoing concern, many people regard their full names and dates of birth as private."
If the date of birth has not "been widely published by reliable sources, or by sources linked to the subject such that it may reasonably be inferred that the subject does not object to the details being made public." (Also from WP:BLPPRIVACY.)
If Feldon does not want her date of birth published, it should not appear in this article.
IMDb is not a reliable source. (WP:IMDB)
Meanwhile, Intelius's site says, "We search millions of available public records in our aim to provide the best information online." Therefore, using data from it would violate WP:BLPPRIMARY, which specifies, "Do not use trial transcripts and other court records, or other public documents, to support assertions about a living person. Do not use public records that include personal details, such as date of birth, ..." Eddie Blick (talk) 02:25, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Why is Intelious any more important or special compared to any other well-known source? Feldon never said or implied in the slightest that she did not want her DOB published. The date of birth is widely sourced, not unsourced, as the major sources say it was for Mar. 12, 1933. Wikispro (https://wikispro.com/barbara-feldon-wiki-networth-age), Turner Classic Movies (https://prod-www.tcm.com/tcmdb/person/60606%7C17655/Barbara-Feldon#overview), Internet Broadway (https://www.ibdb.com/broadway-cast-staff/barbara-hall-73315), AllMovie (https://www.allmovie.com/artist/p23007), IMDb.com, TheFamousPeople (https://www.thefamouspeople.com/profiles/barbara-feldon-3662.php), etc. If her birthdate is known then Wikipedia should publish it. You are wildly exaggerating the idea of WP:BLPPRIMARY, because that would say Wiki can't publish assertions on any personal information on a living person. We know that isn't obeyed for a living person's marriages, children, where living now, etc., when all of those details are just as personal as a date of birth. The OP and subseqwent posters did not mention 1933 at all, which is now the one reported by the major sources cited above. There are no major sources conflict now, so I suggest re-adding her birthdate as the Mar. 12, 1933 from numerous, independent sources cited above, and not messing with it again. MondayMonday1966 (talk) 21:14, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Here birth date is 12 March 1933 as cited.[1] ~~ Abebenjoe (talk) 23:02, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
MondayMonday1966, Let me respond to some points that you brought up:
  • I don't consider "Intelious any more important or special compared to any other well-known source". I mentioned it a) because the post immediately above mine mentioned it and b) because it provides data from public records.
  • I did not originate the concept that "She is extremely cagey about her age." I quoted that from the comment that preceded mine and said that it fit the concept of WP:BLPPRIVACY. I have no way of knowing how she feels about publication of her date of birth.
  • Several of the sources that you cited are reliable. If someone had posted a citation from one of those, the matter could have been resolved before now.
  • WP:BLPPRIMARY does not prohibit publishing all "assertions on any personal information on a living person". I did not intend to imply that it did so. It prohibits publishing such assertions when they are cited to "trial transcripts and other court records, or other public documents." Citing such assertions to reliable secondary sources is fine. Information about "a living person's marriages, children, where living now, etc." is often published with citations to newspapers, magazines, books, and reliable websites.
Eddie Blick (talk) 02:37, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Internet Broadway Database, AllMovie, and Turner Classic Movies had that date in the External links section. You said there were those other dates: 1932, 1939 (never heard that year before!), and 1941, so there was this "conflict" on the year. There was no present conflict as I mentioned in the reliable sources. You could have added 1933 yourself, but you chose to ignore the numerous reliable sources, and those others (ex, IMDb.com) that are considered unreliable by Wiki, and that's why I called you out on it with your insisting we "talk" about it. No talking or discussion was necessary at all, as you insisted in your hidden notation inside, but I humored you in your saying there was "conflict." Yes, decades ago there was, but not presently, and was glad to see others post the reliable 1933 year. MondayMonday1966 (talk) 15:12, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Birth Place?

[edit]

There seems to be some conflicting sources regarding her place of birth. Some claim that she was born in Butler, PA while others claim it was Bethel Park, PA. There doesn't seem to be an authoritative source to confirm either.

Resemblance?

[edit]

I'm puzzled by the statement "[Feldon] had a wonderful on- and off-screen resemblance with Adams". I'd like to change it, but I don't know what to change it to. Pavium 12:57, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Time mess-up

[edit]

I expect this is just a case of an editor who is not a native englisg speaker. In Early Life, the article states:

"She graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) in 1955, with a Bachelor of Arts in drama. Long before then, she won the grand prize on The $64,000 Question"

They probably meant to say "Before Long". Elsewhere in this Talk, it says she was on the game show in 1957. Since The $64,000 Question only began in 1955, it certainly could not have been "long before" 1955.

I'll leave this to the folks who have been editing this page, since I have no idea what I am talking about.

studying BALLET at eleven yrs

The Wall Breaker Interviews Vol. 12: Whatever Happened to Barbara Feldon? (March 26, 2013 POSTED BY Matt)
"BF: When I was eleven I began studying ballet and it became the greatest ecstasy of my life. It also helped me sail through the multiple indignities of adolescence. But there were no colleges with dance programs so I studied drama at Carnegie Tech (which is now Carnegie Mellon). After graduation I did summer stock and a stint as a showgirl in a Broadway musical — walking down perilous staircases in spike heels and monstrous headdresses, and scant (for those days) costumes. And, oh yes, I danced in the chorus line at the Copa Cabana, which was heaven! It was my favorite job ever – flashing sequins, jazzy band, dangerous looking men – very noir and glam."

Her age isn’t updating

[edit]

Today, according to Feldon's birthdate (March 12, 1933), it should show that she's now 91. I assumed the code automatically updated a person's age based on their birthdate, but that doesn't appear to be happening for some reason. Chemooa15 hild (talk) 02:40, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
