Conflicted contributions

[edit]

A large amount of material is being added to this article by User:Majorfun who has admitted previously to being Bernie DeKoven. This clearly violates WP:COISELF - Wikipedia's policy on editing articles about yourself. The bulk of the material User:Majorfun has added does not have any supporting references and needs to be verified. Bernie, you risk editing restrictions if you keep this up. Obviously you're in the best position to know about the life and works of Bernie DeKoven and obviously you have a lot to say on the topic, but your interests are quite out of step with the goals of the encyclopedia. There are strong incentives for you to write self-aggrandizing prose or to omit criticism of yourself and to cite unduly praising sources instead. I'm not saying that this is what you've done, but the danger is simply too great for anyone to be editing their own article. I've added this article to my watch list so if you feel that there are issues that need to be addressed at this article then please post on the talk page or leave a note on my talk page. Further violations of Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest rules, however, are likely to get you blocked. -Thibbs (talk) 13:06, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

the date for the second edition of Interplay can be found here - http://www.academia.edu/1896759/Interplay_Manual_for_Parents
we moved to the farm and began the games preserve in 1971 - this is personal history for which I have been able to find no documentation other than my personal records. I found this record - http://www.trademarkia.com/the-games-preserve-73182923.html - showing it was trademarked in 78 - here's a record from 1974 - http://www.bizapedia.com/pa/THE-GAMES-PRESERVE.html
I based my estimate of when I joined the foundation on the article I wrote in the New Games Book, which was published in 76.
Here's one source that mentions me in connection to the term coworking and the date of 1999 - https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Social_Web/Print_version - here's an article from 2000 where the coworking.com domain is used -http://articles.latimes.com/2000/mar/29/business/fi-13745 - and here a wayback capture from 1999 - http://web.archive.org/web/20000815072610/http://www.coworking.com/html/coworking.html

Thanks for the reference. I've added them to the article for now, but I'm not sure if they are all considered reliable. One of the rules for Wikipedia is that reliable sources should be used to verify information. New York Times, LA Times, Wall Street Journal, BBC, The Guardian, Le Monde, etc. are all considered reliable as are academic journal articles and books published by mainstream (non-vanitypress) publishers. Many websites are considered reliable as well, but obviously not all of them. The truth of the claim is not at issue, but the reliability of the source is. So even if an unreliable source is correct we should try to find a high quality reliable one to replace it if possible. -Thibbs (talk) 23:42, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Removed coworking section, as the wayback version of coworking.com and the latimes.com article make it clear that Bernie was using the term to mean something different than what caught on, what it now means. Lloydde (talk) 01:27, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
