Untitled
[edit]I added the category link for People from Orlando, Florida as Carlos Peña is a resident of the city.
From his official MLB.com biography
He and his wife Pamela reside in Orlando, FL during the offseason...[1]
This line appeared in a January 25th story on Carlos published by the Lawrence Eagle Tribune
If Pena makes the Devil Rays, he will be playing just an hour's drive from his new residence in Orlando.[2]
—Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.189.120.173 (talk) 07:53, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
- The category is Category:People from Orlando, Florida, not "People who live in Orlando." --Nlu (talk) 05:01, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Per the Ask the Announcer segment of the August 19, 2009 game against the Baltimore Orioles, though Pena would be a candidate should one ever be named, the Tampa Bay Rays do not currently have a team captain. Since this claim was in dispute, removing the reference. Opusaug (talk) 03:11, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
Chicago Cubs
[edit]since the deal has not been announced as is not yet official, I removed the "Chicago Cubs" section from the article and returned him to "free agent" --66.181.225.114 (talk) 16:40, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
Retirement Notes:
[edit]Carlos just came to St. Petersburg a few days ago to sign a 1-day contract for the Rays and then 'officially' retire as a Ray. Not sure how you guys want to include that. Here is the source: http://www.tampabay.com/sports/baseball/rays/emotional-carlos-pe241a-rejoins-rays-then-retires/2246220 65.35.96.10 (talk) 13:06, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

Requested move 30 September 2021
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: no consensus. The question is what is the primary topic for Carlos Peña? 7 supported the move, implying the baseballer was not the primary topic, while 4 opposed it arguing that the baseballer was indeed the primary topic. The most compelling evidence was given by Station1 in the form of pageviews: the baseballer gets more pageviews than all others combined, and these pageviews are stable since 2015. No one tried to rebut this piece of evidence. 3 other !votes considered these pageviews convincing. Not much evidence was provided to support the baseballer not being the primary topic. The nominator said "Carlos Peña" is a common name in Spanish-speaking countries, but that alone doesn't mean there shouldn't be a primary topic (Muhammad Ali, an even more common name, has a primary topic). An argument was made that the Mexican footballer had an illustrious career. This is a good argument that hints at long-term significance. And so I'm closing this as "no consensus". Any future RM should give clearer evidence of why the baseballer is not the primary topic.
There is consensus that if the baseballer is not the primary topic then Carlos Peña should be moved to Carlos Peña (baseball), not Carlos Peña (baseballer). (non-admin closure) VR talk 04:20, 19 October 2021 (UTC)
– No indication that Dominican baseballer Carlos Felipe Peña is the primary topic of "Carlos Peña". Carlos Peña is a common name and surname in Spanish-speaking countries. Dentren | Talk 08:12, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
- Support Carlos Peña (baseball), our standard disambiguator. No clear primary topic. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:41, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
- Support move to Carlos Peña (baseball) per Necrothesp. Likewise, support Carlos Peña (disambiguation) → Carlos Peña. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 15:08, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
- Support this, DAB at base name.--Ortizesp (talk) 22:39, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
- Support move to Carlos Peña (baseball) per above. However, the page was improperly moved during the discussion, so the history will have to be fixed. O.N.R. (talk) 03:08, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
- I've reverted the move per a request at WP:RM/TR. Obviously no prejudice against it being moved back at the close of this RM, if there's consensus. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 04:59, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose (baseballer) Support (baseball)... "baseballer" is not a thing.. no one calls a baseball player a baseballer. Spanneraol (talk) 14:35, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
- Indeed. But do you support the proposed alternative? -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:53, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. Pageviews indicate this article gets more interest than any other article and more than all other articles combined, making it the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. The Mexican footballer could be added directly to the hatnote. There is no benefit to forcing everyone to a dab page. Station1 (talk) 19:18, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per the page views presented above. The fact that there are a handful of other notable individuals with the same name does not prevent this one from being the primary topic; the nominator and those in support of the move have not offered any logical reason why this Carlos Pena cannot be the primary topic. -- Calidum 15:11, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
- Support. The baseball player is clearly not more significant than the Mexican footballer, who played 19 games for his country and had a long career. — Amakuru (talk) 09:08, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
- Support move to Carlos Peña (baseball) (I've never heard the word "baseballer"). Crossover1370 (talk | contribs) 06:28, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per Station1 and Calidum. The page views show that this article gets 3 times more views that the Mexican footballer, no matter how illustrious the latter's career may have been. Havelock Jones (talk) 12:55, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per Station1. If moved, the correct parenthetical disambiguation is (baseball) per WP:NCBASE, not (baseballer). Mdewman6 (talk) 18:59, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
