Criticism
[edit]I wrote a detailed description of the wide criticisms of the game. I provided a source on this discussion page if must have not gone through but since im too lazy at the moment, google: host advantage, bullet lag gears of war 2 find a source yourself and put back my paragraph please! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.55.166.244 (talk) 23:07, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- The Client-Side hit detection issues are already covered in the Reception section. It does not need an entire section devoted to it. -- StarScream1007 ►Talk 23:21, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- You yourself just admitted you were too lazy to go find a source. Source your own claims. We are not here to do your work for you. Peptuck (talk) 09:29, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

- Eh, in my view, {{fact}} tags are big "delete me!" signs. :P Peptuck (talk) 16:52, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- Most of the time, yes, but occasionally the stuff is accurate. I just added some information to Halo: Reach and tagged my own addition because I can't find the citation right now. --Thejadefalcon (talk) 09:58, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Canadian collectors edition mess up
[edit]Can we get a mention of how all of Canada was given FRENCH bonus material in the limited edition, even those areas where English is the primary language, and how MS has yet to rectify this 7 months later? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.150.210.246 (talk) 18:02, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Queen's apparently human appearance worthy of mention?
[edit]User:Masem disagrees with me on this, and undid my edit on the subject, which was surprising - is the Locust Queen's surprisingly human appearance noteworthy, or is it a 'subjective statement'? I can't imagine that it would be an unimportant element in the story - the fact that she looks so human while her fellow Locust look so monstrous seems significant. Is her human appearance really subjective? I'd say the resemblance would be immediately apparent to any player... what's the reasoning for not including this detail in the article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matt.lohkamp (talk • contribs) 07:07, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- She isn't wearing anything on her back, that *thing* is part of her. So she is humanoid, like all locist.(124.179.43.86 (talk) 03:41, 31 December 2008 (UTC))
- She's certainly humanoid, but is her resemblance to 'normal' humans in terms of physical appearance significant enough to warrant a reference in the article? MattLohkamp 07:45, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Given that we have no idea if that's what a normal Locust female looks like, or even the only one, we can really only say she's humanoid. Her appearance itself at this point has little bearing on the game (though if, say, in Gears3 we find she's half-human or something, then that can be pointed out). --MASEM 15:59, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, we've encountered one Locust female before - the berserkers in the first game, right? It seems like a significant point the the appearance of the 'Locust Queen' is so recognizably dissimilar to every other Locus character encountered, and so similar to the human characters. It raises all sorts of interesting questions - is she even the same 'race' as the locust? Is she a queen in the insect sense, literally giving birth to the entire population, or did she figuratively birth them as the result of some sort of human experiment? Her human appearance also makes sense with her perfectly intelligible human voice, as opposed to the Locust's usual guttural speech. It seems like it's important that she looks more human then the average Locust. Can you honestly say that the scene where her appearance is finally revealed is trivial in terms of the game's story? - matt lohkamp 13:21, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- From a factual perspective, yes I can say that. Nothing of any significance is (in relevance to the topic of this discussion) revealed about her in the game. The cutscene, while raising some user interpreted theories, doesn't actually reveal anything factual about her as opposed to the rest of the Locust. This makes it insignificant. --The Guy complain edits 02:43, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes. At least for use it is because anything we add beyond "She is humanoid" could be wrong because after that we run out of facts.(58.107.136.102 (talk) 08:15, 16 January 2009 (UTC))

Engine - PhysX
[edit]"Engine - Unreal Engine 3 with PhysX"
Gears of War 2 does not use PhysX. The Xbox360 uses an ATI graphics card, which doesn't even support Nvidia PhysX. Eseb (talk) 04:25, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
- What does it use, then? MattLohkamp 07:46, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- The game's instruction manual mentions NVidia and Physx at the very end, on page 37, but only discusses their copyright information. Nvidia's official website also mentions that the original Gears used PhysX, though they are probably referring to the PC version.[2] -- StarScream1007 ►Talk 08:28, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- The game uses Unreal Engine 3, however there is no PhysX. PhysX can only be done on an Nvidia GeForce 8 series and higher PC graphics card. The Xbox 360 uses an ATI card which doesn't support PhysX technology. Epic have said that there won't be a PC version of the game, so I guess that was put there by mistake. Eseb (talk) 13:24, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- It does say it in the end credits too though, hardly that's a mistake? Fin©™ 17:32, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- The engine itself supports PhysX, but like I said, the 360's card doesn't. I don't see any real mention of GeOW2 and PhysX anywhere, either. It isn't listed on the nvidia physx site. However, the original GeOW is listed there and according to it it uses PhysX on the 360, but I'm not so sure. Eseb (talk) 18:01, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- Guys, you know PhysX can run in software mode, right? No card is needed :) 69.19.14.24 (talk) 06:20, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed, PhysX is just a set of software (an SDK), that supports both software and hardware acceleration.
- "NVIDIA PhysX provides game physics solutions for a variety of platforms including PC and all current major game consoles, in both software and hardware-accelerated configurations."
- This was quoted from NVIDIA's PhysX features website. LobStoR (talk) 00:50, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Next-Genn-Gamer, for a start, I was not trolling. Secondly, check every other Gears article out there. Thirdly, check the front cover of your Gears 2 manual. Mine says 'Ordered'. --Thejadefalcon (talk) 15:47, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'm seconding this. Having just checked my copy's manual, I can confirm that it clearly says "Ordered" on the front. Peptuck (talk) 19:48, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hear hear, apologies. Manual does say so.--(NGG) 20:52, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- No problem. Sorry if I was a bit snappish. I was and still am tired and tetchy and not feeling too great and I have an unfortunate habit of taking those things out on other people. Sorry if I offended you. --Thejadefalcon (talk) 09:54, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Crimson Omen/Omen of Death
[edit]Oh, God. We're not getting into this again, are we? Check the manual. Mine's currently about ten miles away, so you'll have to do it, but I'm 99% certain it's 'Crimson Omen.' --Thejadefalcon (talk) 12:19, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Plot
[edit]May be worth a mention, couldn't see it in the main text. After you've completed the game, and the credits have rolled. A static laden radio message is heard, the person identifies himself as Adam Fenix and asks 'what have you done...' It isn't clear what this refers to, but is likely a set-up to a sequel. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.105.73.140 (talk) 12:37, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
- That's been discussed. I believe the consensus was to forget about that part. --Thejadefalcon (talk) 11:18, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
gears of war 3?
[edit]This game was said to be a trilogy; which means three. I remember their was an article on this but some joke must of removed it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.66.27.162 (talk) 19:28, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- Gears 3 has had barely anything said about it, therefore was not deserving of an article of it's own. Until more verifiable information comes out, it stays that way. --Thejadefalcon (talk) 10:22, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
Bug
[edit]Not sure if this has been covered before or not, but you can unlock Lt. Kim, RAAM and A. Carmine for use in multiplayer by having certain achievements (Time to Remember, A Dish Best Served Cold and any of the Completed Act 1 achievements respectively). I have Time to Remember and all of the Act 1 achievements. They haven't unlocked. I'm going to presume this is a bug of some sort. Is there a source commenting on this? Was it fixed in a patch? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 15:08, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- I thought you just needed to have the save file from the first Gears of War on your HDD and beat certain chapters to unlock Anthony Carmine, Kim, and RAAM.[3] I have not heard of any glitches about this, but I'll keep my eyes open.-- StarScream1007 ►Talk 15:38, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- That's the problem. I do. I have the save game and I've beaten the entire game on Casual and Acts 1 and 2 on Insane. Thanks for the response though. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 15:16, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
A bit off topic but yeah you have to log back into Xbox live and boot up the game for an update, that's what did it for me. Anyways, is this/should this be mentioned in the article? It seems like a sentence in the multiplayer subsection would be sufficient. GroundZ3R0 002 (talk) 06:15, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
- Well, at the moment, it wouldn't really matter for me. My Xbox died with no connection to Live, so my gamerprofile died with it, and I haven't played either Gears yet on the new one. Thanks for the hint though, I'll keep that in mind. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 10:51, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
