[edit]Georges is paired with Anabelle Langlois in BotB [1]. The Charity that they are playing for is "Hockey for Haiti" because that is where his parents were from. Many of the hockey players paired up with figure skaters were former enforcers. I think that someone else can up date the rest of the profiles. ```24.77.84.145 (talk) 05:26, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

[edit]the political career section is redundant with the personal life, I am removing it. I'm also adding that he is on the starting line up for the Canadiens in the EA sports game NHL Slapshot. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.119.67.91 (talk) 01:34, 18 September 2010 (UTC) I don't know if this is of interest to his bio, but Georges Laraque speaks at least 4 languages that I'm aware of (English/French/Arabic and Hebrew) as recorded on "Midi Morency" radio show on November 3rd 2008. I'm very uncomfortable with wiki editing though so I'll leave it in the discussion page.

Of all of the players to use the term "god among men" why Georges Laraque —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.197.130.157 (talk • contribs) 16:18, April 12, 2006
- Just vandalism. Srnec 23:37, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
I realize the fact that he's a black guy in the NHL is unique, but the inclusion in the beginning of the article seems tacky. You call MLK Jr. a "black civil rights leader" because it has an effect on the interest of discussion, it's relevant. The Wayne Gretzky article doesn't say he was a white professional hockey player... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.118.235.203 (talk • contribs) 04:46, May 14, 2006

THIS STATEMENT IS POTENTIALLY MISLEADING. IN THE 2007-8 PLAYOFFS, MONTREAL ELIMINATED BOSTON IN THE FIRST ROUND, THUS IT SEEMS UNREASONABLE TO USE THE WORD "OUTPLAYED" UNLESS THE FACT THE MONTREAL WON IS ALSO MENTIONED. IT IS ALSO SPECULATIVE TO SAY THAT MILAN LUCIC IS THE SOLE CAUSE OR THE PRIMARY CAUSE. SOE PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED THAT I HAVE COVERED THE LUCIC-LARAQUE RIVALRY WITHOUT NEUTRALITY THOUGH I'VE CITED THE BOSTON GLOBE FOR ONE OF THE SALTIER QUOTES, BUT I THINK THE TABLE HAS TURNED THE OTHER WAY NOW AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED.
"One of the main reasons why Montreal sought Laraque was to add toughness; in the previous year's playoffs, they had been outplayed physically by the Boston Bruins (particularly Milan Lucic) and Philadelphia Flyers."
- I've reworded it.-Wafulz (talk) 02:18, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
This was the section that was continually deleted. As you can see there are items with citations that are verifiable and it traces back to Feb 2008 to present. Maybe there is a better way to put it, but it certainly seems fair and true.
In a radio interview before the start of 2009 NHL Playoffs, Laraque stated that he would love to "shut the fans at the Garden up" and fight Shawn Thornton, Zdeno Chara, and Milan Lucic of the Boston Bruins, or all of the above.[1] While Chara and Thornton have fought against Laraque in the past, Lucic (who has a reputation for being a good fighter) has refused on several occasions since the 2007-8 season when Laraque played for the Pittsburgh Penguins. In a game between the Penguins and Bruins on 28 Feb 08 Laraque challenged Lucic to fight for the first time, but Lucic refused and decided instead to fight against pest Jaarko Ruutu. As the Boston Globe reports: "Earlier in the evening, Penguin heavyweight Georges Laraque tried to engage Lucic too, but the rookie opted not to be turned into beef puree."[2] The trend continued throughout the 2008-9 regular season and has been discussed by many NHL fans. [3] One of the main reasons why Montreal sought Laraque for the 2008-9 season was to intimidate Lucic (who played aggressively in the first round of the 2007-8 NHL playoffs) and others who might be tempted to go after some of the smaller Montreal players.[4] Although the strategy has not always stopped Lucic from scoring goals against the Canadiens, Laraque's presence seems to change Lucic's posture.[5] This is especially true since 13 Nov 08, when after refusing to fight Laraque, Lucic fought and won a decisive victory against Montreal defenseman Mike Komisarek who was injured in the brawl. In the next game between the teams om 22 Nov 08, Laraque again challenged Lucic who refused a third time. [6]

- There's no reason to include that first sentence. Players always gab about the other teams and their fans. I'm not sure what the rest of the paragraph is supposed to be talking about. It looks like you're trying to emphasize a rivalry, but none of your sources say anything beyond "Lucic and Laraque did/didn't fight" (also sources 1 and 3 are broken). Unless it escalates beyond that, it's just some playoffs animosity and nothing special.-Wafulz (talk) 02:18, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Neutrality
[edit]The top portion of this article practically reads as an advertisement for this guy rather than a statement of fact about who he is typical for most hockey players found on Wikipedia. I feel it needs some form of revision to be made more neutral. EDIT: It appears to have been fixed so I am removing the tag. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mwizzy55 (talk • contribs) 19:48, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
