2005

[edit]

This section mentions a demonstration that went wrong as Bill Gates gave his keynote address but doesn't say what it was. What was it? --Indigest 07:01, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

2006

[edit]

One thing I'm leaving out of the 2006 section is the PS3 non-announcement, because I'm not sure it will be notable a year or two from now, but others can add it if they feel differently. --Interiot 17:57, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The picture is described on 'January 4 2006". According to the text, the CES started the day after. Huh?? --Chorocobo 11:13, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

General background information

[edit]

What does "taking up to 18 days to setup, run and break down" refer to in the first section. It could refer to two things, and it is unclear to me which it refers to. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.131.47.237 (talk) 02:48, 14 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Full disclosure - I work for this brand, therefore I do not want to edit the page directly. Wanted to suggest two edits to help make the page more accurate. The show is called "CES" now - it no longer goes by the "International Consumer Electronics Show." Show also had a logo update in 2015 - old logo is being used on this page. https://www.ces.tech/About-CES/CES-Logo-Download-and-Usage-Guidelines.aspx

Notable product introductions

[edit]

Wasn't Microsoft's Windows Vista introduced at 2007's CES? Extranet (Talk | Contribs) 01:52, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For the most part, the "Notable introductions" section lists introduced technologies that, from a historical perspective, revolutionized their industry. There's a couple that have snuck in there that are either not notable due to being too new to be proven yet (Blu-ray, HD-DVD), or just obscure (CD-i). I will remove those. RyanAlbarelli (talk) 15:36, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, more recent years seem to much cruftier, listing individual products like the Ford Electric Focus. It starts off well - serious milestone products like the VCR, Laserdisc player, Camcorder, and CD Player. But the last three years are not so "notable". Huw Powell (talk) 21:09, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why is Microsoft Surface mentioned as introduced at CES when it says on the Microsoft Surface page that it was announced on 29 May 2007 at the D5 conference? Is there a difference of "introduction" and "announcement", or is one of these statements wrong?Ahltorp (talk) 13:24, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:CESlogo.gif

[edit]

Image:CESlogo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Microsoft Ad?

[edit]

CES has been running for many years, but I find it absurd that every highlight seems to involve Microsoft.

Reading this article could make someone who has never attended CES that it's a Microsoft event. Could someone fix the article a bit so that it shows information about other brands? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.222.233.148 (talk) 11:18, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Intel Infoscape at the CES

[edit]

I just added:

Highlights include the Intel Infoscape which is ran on the Intel Intel Core i7 processor. One laptop ran two 7-foot screens, displaying 576 cubes hooked up to 20,000 info sources, including 20 live video feeds. Visitors would touch one of the cubes, and an infobox displaying that content would come forward. One journalist explained, "The graphics on the giant screens were a tons of fun to move around with their uncanny quickness and smooth motion, and the whole thing felt super responsive, Giving us a peek into the future, it seemed a lot like that computer screen in the movie Minority Report. It was the most spectacular demo we saw at CES 2010."[1]

I first heard about this on CNN.

In a huge marketing snafu, if a person goes to intel.com site, and searches for "infoscape" there are no results. Way to drop the ball. LOL. Ikip 08:09, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

found some links to Infoscape on Intel's site, but only by using google.[1] Thank god Intel does not run Google. Intel should definitely stick to hardware, because they suck at software (i.e. search engines). Ikip 08:15, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lead rework

[edit]

I did a good bit of work on the lead. I moved the key notability into sentence one... this is the major consumer electronics show (at least in NA... is that worth mention?). Then some key detail in sentence 2. Then the COMDEX mention in 3... do we need that in the lead? COMDEX is pretty old history. - Sinneed 15:11, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2009

[edit]

Suggested addition:

Another highlight of the 2009 CES Show was the debut of Powermat Wireless Charging , which was named “Best of CES” by Laptop Magazine, “Editor’s Choice” by Popular Mechanics, a “Favorite Pick” of CNET and “One of the Top 10 Gadgets at CES” by CNN.

Full Disclosure: I am a Powermat employee. However, it might be worth noting Powermat and it’s “Lose the Cords” value proposition since it came away with those four major accolades. Powermat is the first wireless charging company to gain national distribution with leading retailers in the U.S. --Powermatassistant ([[User talk:Powermatassistant|talk]]) 20:18, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

refimprove

[edit]

The Products debuted [&c.] section is all based off of one (one!) primary source and it makes such verifiably ridiculous claims such as "Tablets, Netbooks and Android Devices, 2010" even though Android existed way before that, or a buzzword heap of nothing such as "New convergence of content and technology, 2007"... the whole section needs more elaboration, as is it is just a vague copypaste of a primary source. Thence the refimprove tag. - Rathersilly (talk) 00:02, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Actually nevermind, added the tag to the whole article, which includes such primary-sourced beauties as "At CES 2014, ProtectCELL was dedicated to helping its users get protected and stay connected, showcased its comprehensive mobile protection plans for all major devices including the iPhone 5S and 5C, iPad Air and mini and Galaxy S4. With demonstrations such as blending a Blackberry, ProtectCELL proves they will cover any and all damages." - seriously? - Rathersilly (talk) 00:16, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I made an initial pass at cleaning up the bottom of the debut list to remove some obvious advertisement. I have left the Microsoft Kinect in place as there are not really any other major consumer electronics that behave the way it does (making it difficult to justify "genericizing" that entry), and I left the electric Focus alone for now as it did receive significant media coverage. In general including anything from the past few years is spurious, however, as none of it has really had time to get "famous" or notable yet (as opposed to, say, VCRs or compact discs). 50.53.97.172 (talk) 21:08, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested Edit: Change name to CES everywhere. Full disclosure, I work for the company and we prefer using the name CES since the show now encompasses many consumer technologies. --WashingtonWikiUser ([[User talk:WashingtonWikiUser|talk]]) 17:21, 29 September 2015

Consumer Electronics ShowCES (trade show)WP:COMMONNAME trumps WP:NATURAL per Twitch (website) and Amazon (company) (used more often by sources than full former title), the show is officially "CES" and organizers explicitly state that the show is not called "Consumer Electronics Show" (hence the article title is factually incorrect). • Oppose as per Amakuru. --IJBall (contribstalk) 03:49, 22 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Looking at the sources, "CES" is clearly the WP:COMMONNAME and as such, it's also the WP:RECOGNIZE version, which is contrary to above editor has stated. I'll also throw in that per MOS:IDENTITY (When there is a discrepancy between the term most commonly used by reliable sources for a person or group and the term that person or group uses for themselves, use the term that is most commonly used by recent[f] reliable sources. If it is unclear which is most used, use the term that the person or group uses.), even if it wasn't clear one way or another what is the common name, the fact that the group clearly states that they want to be called by a specific name, and not the other, the MoS says to use it. --Gonnym (talk) 10:08, 22 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as per Gonnym. Roadsguy (talk) 04:22, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Based on timelines I've seen on other pages, this one could be organized to look better. I am not entirely sure how to do this but figured I'd put it out there in case anyone would like to help out. Plo0ough (talk) 17:27, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
