Strange Language Usage[edit]

"For almost twenty years, Lalla Ward has served on the committee of the Actors' Charitable Trust, TACT, as a trustee for ten years."

What? Is that even English? It makes no sense. (talk) 22:46, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Isn't Lalla Ward an "actress" rather than an "actor"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 01:00, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

I don't know what the convention is in the U.K., but in the United States, within the industry, "actor" is used for either a male or a female. Outside the industry, however, "actor" is generally used for a male, and "actress" for a female. SlowJog (talk) 03:22, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Can we have a picture of her? — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 18:38, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Done. This is the first time I've added an image of a person to an article on them – so I've probably done it wrong, and I expect someone will need to tidy it up somehow. Maproom (talk) 19:55, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
Right wikicode, wrong image, and sorry to rain on your parade ... we have stringent rules about photos on biographies of living people - unless the image is very noteworthy in itself, we don't use fair-use images on them for illustration; the illustration has to be freely-licensed. This is a bit hard-arsed, but has been remarkably effective in netting us good images of living people - see Wikipedia:FAIRUSE#Images_2. So we need to track down a photo of Ms Ward that's under a free licence - David Gerard (talk) 07:40, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
I said I'd probably done it wrong – so I am not at all disappointed. And I have learned something useful. Maproom (talk) 09:42, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Wrong Character[edit]

Lalla Ward did not play Romana, she played Princes Astra in The Armagedon Factor season 16 Episode 6. — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 06:30, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

First new discussions go at the bottom of the page. Next, please read the section of the article regarding here time on Dr Who. It mentions that she played Astra. Last, I hope that you are kidding as, after playing Astra, she played the second incarnation of Romana for almost two full seasons and reprised the role in the Children in Need special that celebrated the 30th anniversary of the show. No mention of her books on astrology. Is this some kind of post-secular rewrite of her past? — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 21:05, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

It would appear to be. Perhaps her husband has forbidden her from acknowledging an interest in astrology?

Presumably she has one, but it is conspicuously absent from the article. (Or is that attributable to her time travel as a companion of Doctor Who?) — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 08:45, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

I have added Lalla's age- there are many sources that show it as the 28th of June, 1951: ; ; ; ; . That's just to quote a few. — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 17:52, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Per WP:USERGENERATED wikis cannot be used as a source for any entries here at WIkipedia. Fortunately, you found a source that we can use so thank for that effort. MarnetteD | Talk 18:39, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Another vile "via"! In this sentence, "via" is used to mean "descended from" and is solecistic: "Through her father she is descended from George Plantagenet, 1st Duke of Clarence, brother of Edward IV and Richard III, via [sic] John Mordaunt, 1st Earl of Peterborough, John, 1st Viscount Mordaunt, and Bernard Ward, 1st Viscount Bangor." I have replaced it with "and from". Autodidact1 (talk) 03:57, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Deleted factual error[edit]

In accordance with WP:BLP policy I have deleted a factual error from the lead sentence, which stated that Ward was "retired." It violated the policy a) because the statement was unsourced and b) is factually incorrect as she is currently active recording audio dramas for Big Finish Productions and has been for about 10 years now, and is also involved in recording audio books.
