Sister?

[edit]

Maria Haukaas StorengMaria Mittet – Article was moved one month ago, claiming that Haukass Storeng is her most common name. While she might be most noted for her time before she married Hans Marius Hoff Mittet and changed her name in January 2010, she is still performing as an artist under the name Maria Mittet. WP:COMMONNAME also states: However, common sense can be applied – if an organization changes its name, it is reasonable to consider the usage since the change. Even though this is not an organization I believe we should go by the same principle here. Relisted. BDD (talk) 20:51, 27 October 2012 (UTC) Mentoz86 (talk) 17:09, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose - Her official website enlists her name as Maria Haukaas Storeng. If that is the artists stage name, then it becomes the common name, as that is the name everyone would know her by. Take Cilla Black for example, her real name is Priscilla White, but her stage name is Cilla Black and that is how she has become famous by. David Bowie is another prime example - his real name is David Jones - but people know him by his stage name. So in this circumstance, Maria Mittet may be the real name, but it is her stage name that she performs under that takes priority. WesleyMouse 12:27, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Comment - you mean that outdated website who states that no:Make My Day (album) will be released 14th of June, when it infact was released more than two years ago ? Her most recent album no:Lys imot mørketida from 2011 was released under the artist-name "Maria Haukaas Mittet", so your rationale is not valid. --Mentoz86 (talk) 12:53, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Reminder - Civility, please maintain it. No need for the rudeness of telling someone their opinion is not valid - thank you. WesleyMouse 13:07, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry if you believe I'm being rude, that was not my intention but rather a result of my bad English. My point is not that your opinion is not valid, but that your rationale is not valid as you state that Maria Haukaas Storeng is the artist-name, which is incorrect. --Mentoz86 (talk) 13:13, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Just to note - A google search for Maria Mittet doesn't bring up much in the results not even any official websites for the artist. Your only rational evidence is from the Norwegian language Wikipedia, and that doesn't really stand much weight as it is known that various language Wikipedias tend to operate differently from each other. A google search for the current name as used on this article brings up a lot more result, including to pages for Maria's official Facebook and MySpace pages, and both of those also state Maria Haukaas Storeng as the stage name. Remember that we are to go off what reliable and official sources are showing. And for the record rationale and opinion are the same thing. So to tell someone their rationale is not valid is basically telling someone to shut their mouth as their opinion is not wanted. WesleyMouse 13:17, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The way that I'm seeing this at the moment is that she is known more in Norway as Maria Mittet, but it could be a case of she's known elsewhere in the world (especially the English speaking parts) as Maria Haukaas Storeng. As this is English Wikipedia, then the name that is used more in the English speaking world would be more correct. Take Helena Paparizou; her stage name in Greece/Cyprus is styled as Elena Paparizou; but in English speaking countries she performs and releases material as Helena and not Elena. WesleyMouse 13:28, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Google web search on English sites clearly favours the current name [1] [2] (your results may vary). As suggested above, it does seem that English sites are less prone to use the changed name than non-English ones [3], but non-English sites are still slightly less likely to use the new rather than the older name, and this is English Wikipedia. The lead should be changed back, I see the infobox already has been [4]. See also WP:official names and WP:BLP. Andrewa (talk) 01:26, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life

[edit]

So, why only in Talk section we do learn that she married Hans Marius Hoff Mittet? If she did, there should be a section about Personal life, as it is with many less notable persons on this site. Sorry for mistakes in my speech. I begin forgetting the language rules unfortunately, since I'm not an English-speaking and speak my native language more often. But you did understand what I said here. Please add Maria's marriage information in the main article about her. 95.153.175.251 (talk) 21:28, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
