Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on April 12, 2008.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ...that "the light arises in the East", an apparently pro-Soviet slogan coined by Romanian writer Mihail Sadoveanu in 1945, is seen by some as a coded warning to his fellow Freemasons about communization?

[edit]

Sadoveanu deserves a better trial, half of this article is about his communist accomodation. I agree it was a big mistake, but his prose should receive a far more extended analysis. At least, tag the article as "stub" or "under work"...--dio 12:08, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I found the source!

Lenin Peace Prize

[edit]

Sadoveanu was given Lenin Peace Prize not only as a merit for his "Mitrea Cocor" novel, this is simply stupid! Many famous artists, including Picasso, Neruda, Brecht were distinguished with this prize, we like it or not!

List of works

[edit]

May I suggest a small but useful addition to this otherwise great article? I think it would be very handy for readers to have a list of his works somewhere in the article. Looking around at some FAs on novelists, I see a couple of approaches being used. For Hemingway and Crane, selected works are presented, with a link to a more complete bibliography. For Vargas Llosa, Joyce and Achebe, we get a list of works with no child article; indeed, it's implied the latter two are complete bibliographies. And for Waugh, we get a link to an exhaustive bibliography.

I'm not sure what would work best for Sadoveanu, but I hope the idea is considered. (One issue: if we use selected works, who makes the selection? Though I'm sure there are several reference works that give selected bibliographies of his.)

In other news, I note my photo of his grave was deleted (...), but there's another where it appears, although I'm not sure how useful it would be. And we now have one of him in old age. - Biruitorul Talk 04:16, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I considered the bibliography option myself, but the thought is, for now, kind of discouraging. There are complete lists of his works in Călinescu and Crohmălniceanu (in the latter, it alone covers some 3 pages!), so the "anthumous" part might be covered - but what of the posthumous editions? There must have been exponential growth in that chapter.
Biru, feel free to tweak the images - they're all a bit outdated with new additions (let me note, we also have this). I wanted to do them all in one go, but I'm quite undecided about where to place them. Particularly since I've since scanned a portrait of his by Dimitrescu, with which we could lead this article instead of the Moldovan stap thingie (do we keep the Moldovan stamp thingie?). Unfortunately, I'm all over the place right now, and not working from the same computer where I keep my files. But really, feel free to add and shuffle the images - that would also give me the reassurance that I'm not the only one deciding on/liking the arrangements. To be sure, compiling a complete Mihail Sadoveanu bibliography would be a demanding exercise, but until that happens, how about something like this? - Biruitorul Talk 15:55, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I did use the article to guide me as I plucked out titles, so it's no coincidence. Anyway, tweak it if needed, and I guess you can go ahead and insert it if we're all set for now. - Biruitorul Talk 02:11, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Page size

[edit]

Per the Manual of Style guidelines on WP:PAGESIZE, this article should probably be subdivided into some subarticles, with a summary-style article remaining at this location. This article has 105kb of readable prose, whereas the ideal is 30-50kb. I'm not knowledgeable enough about this topic to begin to do this myself, but I thought I'd make the suggestion for those who were. Thanks for your work, -- Khazar2 (talk) 13:25, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'd agree. There is never a reason for an article to be in the triple digits for prose. A lot of it I'm sure can be trimmed and fine-tuned. Wizardman 23:47, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
