Missed FG

[edit]

He should never have been put in the position he was put in. My family and I happen to be fond of Mike Vanderjagt and his family. Regardless of the last play of this season, he is a wonderful kicker and person. Congrats on your season Mike!

Fixing this: "In the 2005 NFL Playoffs, in a very tightly contested game, where every officiating call was dead wrong and usually in the Colts' favor, against the Pittsburgh Steelers," (Although I agree...) - NinedenLtD 16:45, 15 January 2005 (UTC).[reply]

Maybe so he won't be vilified too much for this, we could add other reasons why the Colts lost the game, so 100% of the blame doesn't fall on him?

That wouldn't be appropriate for a Mike Vanderjagt article, though. --OntarioQuizzer 03:37, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Prounounciation

[edit]

How is his name prounounced? Anyone got sources? --OntarioQuizzer 22:52, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have a guy living three doors down the hall from me here in res, and he used to mow Vanderjagt's lawn. He always pronounces it "Van-der-jagt" just like it's spelled. No "eh" between the "g" and "t". That seems to be what it's like when announcers on TV pronounce it, too. The Chief 23:13, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Suicide attempt?

[edit]

Take a look at this: http://www.iiffl.net/nflnews/ap/news_slug=citadel-2_353743_11&prov=citadel&type=story.html

I assume it's a joke (and in very poor taste if so), but if not it's pretty messed up. The Chief 23:11, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IMHO, it's an AP wire story, ergo verifiable; therefore I figure it should go in the article footnoted. --OntarioQuizzer 06:42, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
On second thought, I can't find secondary corroboration on Google. Out it goes. --OntarioQuizzer 06:52, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's a hoax... Don't believe everything you read, even if it looks legit (see the URL, try to find this on any other site, etc). --W.marsh 21:19, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Shouldn't that be don't believe ANYTHING you read? Cryomaniac 22:14, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is untrue! He is a family member. Please take this down. Sydneytravers (talk) 23:40, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unsportsmanlike conduct or Personal Foul

[edit]

The article indicated there was a meaningless 15 yard "personal foul (unsportsmanlike conduct)" penalty, but the two are seperate penalties and mutually exclusive (though they're both worth 15 yards). Removing your helmet is unsportsmanlike conduct, not a personal foul. Article updated. Vpoko 03:26, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, can someone please help me to edit this article properly. Last week I tried to edit my Uncle's wikipedia page and my comments were deleted and reversed. Just wondering, how can it be allowed to edit my uncles Wikipedia who clearly has malice intent? Please help me to allow this inaccurate content to be removed. Sydneytravers (talk) 23:37, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How is it malicious to mention that he was charged with a 15-yard penalty? —C.Fred (talk) 23:45, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The only source link (1) to ESPN is dead and I cannot find the article it originally referred to. Icebird 16:33, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Needless Side Commentary

[edit]

Can someone please eliminate the following needless side commentary?

"He was last seen working at McDonald in downtown Dallas, but report indicated he was release on his first day on the job. The manager quoted "He kept flipping the patties wide right into the french fry station." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.193.29.86 (talkcontribs)

Already done - but you could have done it yourself. Be bold! -- Pawl 04:51, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone please help me to take out this untrue comment: In 2012, Vanderjagt was investigated by police in Marco Island, Florida for allegedly grabbing a middle school student by the neck and cursing at him after the student taunted him over his infamous missed field goal in the 2005 playoffs. Vanderjagt was not charged in the incident.[12]

Mike Vanderjagt is my uncle and I can assure you this is not true. How can this be deleted? Can someone help me please? Sydneytravers (talk) 23:38, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

On the one hand, the source checks out: "A student at a middle school in Marco Island, Fla., told police Vanderjagt grabbed him by the throat and was cursing at him after the boy taunted Vanderjagt. The boy was yelling 'wide left, wide left,' into a rolled up poster board fashioned into a megaphone, according to the Naples News.... Another student corroborated the story, but police decided not to file charges. Vanderjagt said he only put his hand on the boy's shoulder while talking to him and that he did not threaten him."[1] On the other hand, it's an accusation with no follow-on action. Unless he lost the coaching role over it, it's probably better left out per WP:BLP. —C.Fred (talk) 23:42, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Most accurate kicker?

[edit]

The article reads, "He was once the most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history", implying that his record has since been broken. I have not heard anything about this, and I follow the NFL VERY VERY closely. Kurt Weber (Go Colts!) 19:00, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot (talk) 19:26, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
