Nominate for GA?

[edit]

Hi Bobamnertiopsis (talk · contribs). Impressed with the article. I feel it's another potential GA nominee. I just wonder about the references, almost all of which are not English language sources. Is that ok? (Sorry, a new editor here). And one more tiny thing: "served as the author for all the books" sounds a bit awkward. I'd understand "served as the executive producer (of a TV series)" but served as the author FOR a book? How about just she wrote or personally authored all the books in the series? All the best! Hey Leoseliv, thanks for the vote of confidence! I have the Anti-Princess Series and Anti-Hero Series article in the GA nomination queue right now, but I hadn't thought of nominating this one (which I wrote as sort of an afterthought). There's no reason this one couldn't be nominated though (the source language does not matter, as long as we're using the sources correctly). I'll think about it and maybe nominate it when I'm a little less busy in a few days. Also, good call, I've edited that sentence that you mentioned; you were right that it was kind of a mess. Thank you for this message and let me know if I can help you with anything as you explore editing on Wikipedia! Kindly —Collint c 21:51, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright Leoseliv, I just nominated it! Thanks for the suggestion, we'll see how it goes! —Collint c 23:10, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Leoseliv, the article is now a GA! —Collint c 17:31, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I'll be reviewing this GA nominee in the next few days. I'll try to be as thorough as possible, but since it's my first time doing this, I ask you be patient. Isabelle 🔔 15:40, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Collin: First of all, thanks for writing an article about someone so interesting! I read a bit about her book series, which you also wrote, and I loved it. Before I begin the review, I'd just like to say that my knowledge of Spanish is decent enough to read most of the sources, but I used a translator for the more complex idioms/words, so feel free to correct me if I misunderstood something.

  • First of all, the lede:
    • Some sentences could use some editing, for example: After studying proofreading, she began working as a copyeditor at the magazine Sudestada and later began to write articles for the periodical could be written as After studying proofreading, she worked as a copyeditor at the magazine Sudestada, and later as a writer.
    • I'd personally split the lede into two paragraphs, for easier reading.
    • Mention her edition about the Ni una menos related book, which seems specially relevant as it shows a move to producing a different kind of book later in her life.
  • Early life:
    • Its last sentence is confusing. It sounds like Fink was studying while looking for a job she could enjoy, but the source says: Hice la carrera terciaria de corrector literario, y cuando terminé y me recibí estaba buscando un medio para trabajar por gusto. So it seems like she was only worried about finding a job she could enjoy after finishing her technical course. I'd recommend rewriting to make this clearer.
  • The "Career" section is the bulk of the article, so I'll have some more things to point out:
    • The source n. 2 says Fink worked in administration for several years; might be worth mentioning.
    • The second paragraph ends by mentioning the existence of a third series of books, the League of Anti-Princesses, but doesn't says how it differs from the original series Anti-Princess. Might be worth expanding a bit, mentioning if Fink is also responsible for those.
    • The paragraph split should be reworked here. The third paragraph begins by continuing the topic from the second one, which should be avoided (maybe move Fink has authored all the books... to the previous paragraph).
      • Reshuffled the paragraphs somewhat significantly; the length of this paragraph was bugging me.
    • The sentence "In 2018, Fink and Laura Rosso compiled a number of stories..." could use some rewriting. It says Fink and Russo compiled stories about their own experience, but the source says it's a compilation with text from more than 30 authors. Might also be interesting to expand this section a bit as, from reading the sources, Fink and her publishing house have focused a lot on gender-related books.
      • You're right. I think I had intended the sentence to say that "they [Fink + Russo] compiled stories from young people about their [the young people's] experiences" but it somehow ended up all wrong. Fixed, and added a little more about Chirimbote's focuses per the source to the last sentence. —Collint c 04:25, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Fink edits and writes for the online Argentine news site Marcha. The source also mentions why Fink chose to keep working as a journalist, so could be a good adition here.
  • Personal life:
    • Reading source n. 14, it appears that Fink's daugther works with her mother in the publisher, could be worth mentioning (might want to find a stronger source for this, though).
      • Excellent catch; I've added a brief sentence on it cited to reference 14 because if I recall correctly, only refs 2 + 14 mentioned Fink's daughter and only 14 details what her daughter does. —Collint c 04:25, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • For the "Works" section I'd like to give a general suggestion of expanding it. I understand that there is already an article on Fink's main series of books, but I think they merit at least a paragraph going over some of the more important or interesting books of those series (the first three, the first one with a transgender protagonist, the latest one etc.)

Overall, a good article, but somewhat short, so I'd like to see some expansion of some of the more important aspects of Fink's life as an editor.Isabelle 🔔 02:15, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the really thorough review Isabelle Belato! For a first-time reviewer, you were extremely comprehensive and your comments have improved this article a lot. Please let me know if you have any other comments or improvements! —Collint c 04:25, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Collin: Thanks for going over all the suggestions. I really like how it looks now. I decided to take a look at the Spanish version of the article to see if something could be imported here. I did notice they have Fink's birth date, but I'm not sure it's sourced. I did notice this source, which has some more information about her professional life before joining Sudestada, more specifically, the answer to the question: ¿Cómo fue tu recorrido para llegar a la creación de Chirimbote? So, my last suggestion is for you to take a look at that source, and see if there is anything worthy adding here. Aside from that, great work! Isabelle 🔔 23:04, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Isabelle Belato, I've incorporated some of the biographical info from that article into the early Career and Early life sections. This article is actually probably more useful for the Anti-Princess Series article and I'll eventually see what I can pull from it to put in that one. Let me know if there are any other changes you think it would be useful for me to make. Thanks for the review! Kindly —Collint c 19:29, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Collin. Thanks for adding that extra bit of information to the article. I'll now go over the six basic criteria an article must have to be considered a good article, so it's properly registered:
The Nadia Fink article is well written, easy to read and understand, and follows the project's guidelines when it comes to layout and style; although my Spanish is not the best, I went through every source used in this article and verified all the information present; the article goes over the most important details about its subject, and directs the reader to other articles with more information about related topics; it's neutral, and any praise it contains comes from reliable sources; the article is not affected by an edit war or other kind of dispute; and, finally, it contains a couple pictures illustrating the subject clearly.
Having said all that, thanks for being patient with me and for working on writing about such a relevant name in the children's literature industry of Latin America. Isabelle 🔔 01:56, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
