Year of birth
[edit]- I doubt McCay was born in either 1930 or 1931 as she graduated Barnard College (per reflink in article from New York Times) in 1949. It is highly unlikely that she graduated from Barnard as a teenager. Therefore, I rv guesswork and second-hand sourced approximations of her year of birth until some solid info presents itself. (My personal guess would be that she was born in the mid to late 1920s). Quis separabit? 19:08, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
:: Stand by the above but decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and use 1931 (which is per Intelius) as I didn't want to leave lede without some birthdate info (albeit with appropriate hidden notations); US census indicates she may have been born in 1927. - Almost definitely born in 1927 as the 1930 U.S. census gives her age in April 1930 as 2 ½. What to do? Quis separabit? 21:29, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
If I may speculate, records at that time in New York City were quite precise in those families that were well adjusted and had some manner of credulance. Her father and mother were married and her father owned a successful construction company. They were not street wanderers or the lowest socio-economic groups. Her mother and herself also ran the company upon the demise of her father. They did this for a short time but shows above average intelligence and so it is quiet possible she graduated in her late teens. What I say is only speculative but makes a common sense approach. Peggy McCay
[edit]Besides her many roles in films ,guest appearance's on television series as well in her long standing roles in Soap operas. With her many awards I did not notice her lead role in 77 Sunset Strip. The actor playing opposite her was Effrim Zimbalist Jr. She was the owner of a Mansion, a widow and being threatened with death if she should sell the mansion. As the program progresses the plot thickens Ha, Ha. She believes that the mansion is haunted. She gives a tremendous performance and I believe one of the best 77 Sunset Strip episodes. Peter F.
