Facts relating to his later career needs more attention in wikipedia[edit]

These two have done 2 sets of films. Some as 2 friends around whom the story revolved. Whereas the other dozen films had them as enemies. There are 27 films so the names need to be mentioned. Pran's heroine in Yamla Jat was Ranjhana. Why this fact is termed as garbage? Irrelevant details like what Amitabh said on Pran receiving the award finds a mention in wiki - this is irrelevant. Facts relating to his career needs more attention in wikipedia and not who were the previous recipients of Dadasaheb Phalke award - again this is an irrelevant detail put in wiki. When Pran's films with Amitabh, Dev, Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor finds a mention, why not Pran's films with Shashi and Ashok Kumar???PrithviSanju (talk) 08:07, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]


His performances in films like Jangal Main Mangal(1972)(where he had a double role - as an old man and a hippie student)has not been mentioned about in later career section. From 1971-2007, he took up more and more positive roles but never repeated his characters. He did only 16 villainous characters. (Maryada (film), Naya Zamana, Jawan Muhabat, Aan Baan, Roop Tera Mastana, Yeh Gulistan Hamara, Gaddar, Rahu Ketu, Andha Kanoon (1983), Duniya (1984), Insaaf Kaun Karega, Durgaa, Bewafai, Hoshiyar, Dharm Adhikari and Azaad Desh Ke Ghulam.)

Pran played villains in the Telugu films Tandra Paparayudu (1986) and Kodama Simham (1990) with Cheeranjivi and in the Kannada film Hosa Raaga in 1991. His association with directors from 70's to 90's like Prakash Mehra, Manmohan Desai, Shibu Mitra and producer S.K.Kapur - do not find any mention in later career section. tagged career sections[edit]

I have removed the section tags. What we really need are tagged claims, not sections. There do arleady exist plenty of citations, and the linked movies in which he appeared are themselves primary sources, and as long as they are linked and he was credited in those films we do not need a tag for his appearance. μηδείς (talk) 19:35, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

– The almost nine-year-old article about the actor Pran was moved (in apparent good faith) from Pran to Pran (actor) and a new article about the company Pran was created in its stead. As a result, more than 400 Wikipedia pages now have Wikilinks pertaining to the actor Pran pointing to the article about the company Pran. The company appears notable, but there is no consensus that it is the primary topic for this title; google searches for the name indicate that the actor should probably be considered the primary topic, both as regards usage and long-term significance. bonadea contributions talk 17:08, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Pran is currently a redirect with no significant history, following a move of the company article to PRAN while this RM was open.

The first question is, does Pran have a primary meaning, and if so is it the actor or the company (or even something else)? The article now at PRAN has only one reference [1] but it establishes considerable notability, particularly of course in Bangladesh. The actor also has considerable notability, particularly in India. My conclusion is that there's no primary topic globally, but perhaps we should relist to discuss that.

Then the company article name needs to be considered in the light of the various policies and guidelines, but that's best done by a new RM if needed, once the primary topic issue is settled and in light of that decision. The lack of a primary topic was the consensus of the discussion, rather than my personal view.
