Bot-created subpage
[edit]A temporary subpage at User:Polbot/fjc/Clyde Roger Vinson was automatically created by a perl script, based on this article at the Biographical Directory of Federal Judges. The subpage should either be merged into this article, or moved and disambiguated. Polbot (talk) 22:38, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Should this page be semi-protected?
[edit]Given the recent high-profile vandalism (Rush Limbaugh falsely accused Judge Vinson of hanging bear trophies over the courtroom door, based on this Wikipedia bio), should this page be semi-protected?71.109.148.105 (talk) 18:59, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- From Wikipedia:PROTECT#Semi-protection: Semi-protection should not be used as a pre-emptive measure against vandalism that has not yet occurred. We've so far had one instance of vandalism from a user who has now been indef blocked. If we see more from many new/anon users, then we should semi-protect it. Bovlb (talk) 19:59, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
This is very fishy... why did the hoaxer revert himself within 18 hours but after Rush visited the article? [1] Shii (tock) 14:21, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
- About 5 hours after broadcast of Rush his talkshow right ? I guess he was made aware of the comments of Rush. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 14:35, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
Semi protected only in case of heavy real vandalism, however this controversy like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Seigenthaler#Wikipedia_controversy should be in the article. --188.23.178.232 (talk) 03:40, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I am well aware of John Seigenthaler, a man who devoted years of his career to speaking out against Wikipedia after an event which led to major changes in WP's editing policies. I see no evidence that Judge Vinson cared about this incident at all. The NY Times article linked above even says specifically that he "took it all in stride." If you can find any proof that this had any impact on Vinson's career or that anyone will care about this 10 years from now, then go ahead and re-add it. It is a matter of record. --188.23.178.232 (talk) 04:54, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- While I certainly understand the desire to include this episode in the article I don't see the significance. It looks like it's blown over already and is not going to have any kind of impact on Vinson's career or legacy. Not everything that happens in a person's life that's been recorded by a reliable source needs to be in Wikipedia. SQGibbon (talk) 05:07, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- I agree. I don't think that this needs to be included in the article. Furthermore, 188.23.178.232, I suggest you stop the edit war in which you are currently engaged. — GorillaWarfare talk 05:08, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- The important thing is that Limbaugh said this, not that Wikipedia was his source. The coverage does have a little bit of information on his personal life as well; it seems usually a line or so is included in articles like this. —innotata 16:44, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- Specifically the important thing is that Limbaugh said this at a pretty important time as well. I see his presidency of the American Camellia Society is already mentioned, in a rather strange position. —innotata 16:45, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Protect this page?
[edit]I just checked this page out and noticed his address and phone number posted. Maybe it should be protected until things cool down after the decision today?

- I've made a request at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. Should the addition of his purported contact info be revdeleted? —innotata 18:27, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
