"Shirley Verrett-Carter"

[edit]

Why was she originally called "Shirley Verrett-Carter"? Was it a family name or a married name? see [1] I think this should be mentioned in the article.Ed (talk) 12:29, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to the article in German WP, she married a James Carter in 1951, and temporarily performed under the name Shirley Verrett-Carter, which is I believe not an uncommon practice (cfr Justin Henin-Hardenne in tennis, or Courteney Cox-Arquette in movies). The marriage did not last. She remarried in 1963 (to Lou LoMonaco). Whether this information on her private life is important enough to put in the article, I will leave it up to editors with more experience in biographical articles to decide. According to Josef Krips, she sang as Shirley Carter in the Choral Symphony in his 1960 set of the complete Beethoven symphonies. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 06:41, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
