    • Milbern advocated for her community to consider interdependence rather than independence, as she organized a mutual aid effort to help those whose medical needs were threatened by a lack of power during the blackouts starting October 26, 2019. She and other volunteers worked to ensure disabled people dependent on power to survive, such as for ventilators or refrigerating medications, had the information they needed, and helped transport or shelter some in locations with power.

    • Medical advocacy: "For example, in the healthcare field, doctors are not paid for the extra time it may take to fully serve someone with a disability, so they are often less interested in providing care to us. It’s the same thing with transportation – taxi drivers, bus drivers, etc. don’t get paid more for the extra labor it may take to serve us so there is a disincentive to provide service to us."
    • She also advocated for learning disabilities
    • Marriage: the asset limit for assistance is counted together for couples, making marriage untenable.

    • "other communities that are often excluded — people of color, queer folks and people living on the streets."
    • "ableism and racism and classism and heterosexism and all forms of oppression"
    • "She was one of the co-founders of the North Carolina Youth Leadership Forum, which is a training and opportunity for young people with disabilities. And then, she also had a governor appointed position by 18, the statewide independent living council."
    • at least 50% of victims of police violence have disabilities
    • "black indigenous people of color, queer black and indigenous people of color."
