William BaldwinBilly Baldwin (actor) – More Google results for Billy,[1][2] and it's the name he seems to prefer himself.[3] Unreal7 (talk) 13:18, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. I don't think he is referred by his nickname nearly as overwhelmingly as e.g. Bill Clinton. Your raw Google search shows almost nothing, with both terms amounting to "about 400,000 results". William Baldwin beats Billy Baldwin some 2:1 in ngram, although I grant there might have been other notable William Baldwins recorded in books. In news search, William again beats Billy by a 2:1 ratio, indicating that the RS still prefer his formal name. A case could be made for making Billy Baldwin a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT here and moving the current contents to a dab page, but that should be discussed separately. Until then, per WP:NATURAL we prefer Using an alternative name that the subject is also commonly called in English reliable sources, albeit not as commonly as the preferred-but-ambiguous title – but even then, I think it should stay where it is. No such user (talk) 12:25, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Pretty much invariably seems to be credited as William Baldwin in his roles. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:17, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per No such user and Necrothesp. A possible exception may be found, but as far as I could determine, his on-screen billing has never been "Billy Baldwin". For comparison, see also one out of four discussions about moving the header James Stewart to Jimmy Stewart, —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 23:58, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per other arguments above. In my opinion, the "Jimmy Stewart" case would be a much tougher choice than this one. To continue my opinion, I have never heard nor read anything but the name "William Baldwin" in regard to this actor. Never have heard him called "Billy", so I must've lived a sheltered life? I think most readers would be shocked (a high level of ASTONISHED) to see this article titled "Billy Baldwin".  Paine Ellsworth  put'r there  08:50, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

I don't follow.—CYBERPOWER (Message) 23:30, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently, and as near as can be discerned, Costaregni wrote an article for "The Dish", a section of the Stamford Advocate, and mentioned William B.'s close proximity to brother Stephen B. in that section. I've been unable after several attempts to recover the article. It's not in either of the two archives I checked. I did find an archived link to a Dish article at an old archived link, but there was nothing about the Baldwins in that article. Pulled my hair out for awhile, then abandoned the search.  Paine Ellsworth  put'r there  00:06, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, some times articles just disappear with no archive. Unfortunately, I don't see a good way to mark that with this bot structure. Since it doesn't work, I've gone ahead and removed the archiveurl that the bot added. Cheers, -- Irn (talk) 01:20, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If the archive is a bad archive, you can use the tools mentioned above to let IABot know. Use the URL lookup tool an der search for the original URL. It will give you details the bot knows about the URL and lets you change some of them. You can replace the archive with one that works or remove it all together. The changes are applied to IABot immediately.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 18:15, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nomenclature: "Baldwin Brothers"

[edit]

Recently there was a a bit of back-and-forth regarding a small dispute over the term: "Baldwin Brothers". Just so it's clear: the 4 Baldwin Brothers: Alec, Daniel, Stephen and William have been referred to as "The Baldwin Brothers" since they were recognized as actors in the industry. Simply googling the term "Baldwin Brothers" provides endless proof that this label collectively terms them together. There was even a documentary in 2006 called: "The Baldwin Brothers"; and there are countless online articles that headline "Baldwin Brothers" in reference to the brothers in number from 2 to 4: Baldwin Brothers Clash Over Donald Trump, Baldwin Brothers' Beautiful Daughters, A Baldwin Brother's Journey to Jesus. It is an incorrect edit to remove the statement. If an editor can prove they are not sometimes collectively known as the "Baldwin Brothers"; please bring that discussion here with reliable sources to back the claim. Thanks.
