From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I'm disappointed that you think that I said or implied I was the main editor. I didn't do that, although if I did do that, there would be nothing wrong cause it's true. On the other side, I've always been open about you being a major factor in the article's progress, and have always acknowledged your help and dedication (see my userpage, see the FAC). After the first FAC, I was enormously impressed to see you fighting so much for this article, and I was particularly excited because I knew you were doing that for me, because I was your friend. I turn to you because I appreciate your intelligence, your writing skills and your opinions about anything. Since the GA reassessment, I've never asked you to come and copyedit it, because you yourself decided not to be involved. I've been giving you my drafts and asking for your personal opinion. I think you should feel complimented that someone appreciates your views. As I said, both Blofeld, Dwai and John (in order of involvement) have helped me in different stages of the article in terms of writing and copyediting, and unconditional support. I know that I'm quite a perfectionist and I pay attention to the most small details and not once were you irritated because of this, but it's me, and my argumentative and loud nature is the reason this article is a FA today. I fought for everything I found right and against everything I found wrong (I'm sure you can name quite a few such cases right now), and if I didn't stood on what I believed, it wouldn't have turned the way it did.
As for the new additions, the article cannot remain the way it was oviously, it needs to be comprehensive, complete and must be updated from time to time for this very reason, so it's not that I want to change the article, it just must be updated. ShahidTalk2me 15:49, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
Obviously, but in anyway it should be well-written and unique. In a few days from now I want to do what I have to with the article and then start working on another article. It's just that so many articles upset me. Look at Nargis, Meena Kumari, Urmila Matondkar, Manisha Koirala, Hema Malini, Konkona Sen Sharma, [[Raveena Tandon] (also Shilpa Shetty and Rani Mukerji back in time...). I've taken first steps in writing the leads for them, but I'm far too concerned about the content of some of them, and there's so much to do and on all of them and I dunno where to start. Look at Nargis... what a brief section, an all-time Mother India (have you finally seen the film?). Look at Meena Kumari, do you think it's enough for someone with such an amazing career and such a tragic life? Hema Malini, the most successful. And Rekha, me all-time favourite?
And how to start Shabana Azmi and Nutan? Shabana is a kind of an Indian Meryl Streep, so accomplished. And Nutanji is like Katherine Hepburn.
It gives me a headache. I think I want to start with Konkona. ShahidTalk2me 16:13, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
LOL you definitely missed talking to me. Comon admit it man!! Yeh she's definitely a good singer but not my type of sexy or beautiful... ShahidTalk2me 18:11, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
Well not really had the chance to watch her interviews or something but she seems to be a lovely person. Oh and I'll repeat something I started: You never told me anything about Aishwarya Rai. Maybe that's because her beauty is taken for granted. But what do you think? ShahidTalk2me 18:16, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
I remember seeing Haifa on youtube, she fainted while performing on stage. I think it was her, I'm not sure though. Yeh she's really hot. ShahidTalk2me 18:28, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
She's hot no doubt yeh but nowhere the sexisest in my view. Mallika Sherwat is just too sexy ain't she? ShahidTalk2me 07:30, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
Do you seriously think this and this and this and this lady is not hot and even ugly? ShahidTalk2me 12:41, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
Oh you Blof....... I was thinking and thinking how it's possible. Thank you for terminating the suspense LOL. ShahidTalk2me 14:17, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Mozilla

[edit]

I know there is a way, but at the moment I can't remember what that is. And I'm not allowed to use Firefox at work. I'll check into it once I'm home, and see what can be done. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 13:12, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah - it's kind of weird, looking at pictures of my babyhood and seeing my parents fitting most of the 80's stereotypes. I mean...it's just so not right for both of them.
By the way, I meant to tell you this but forgot: the Smithsonian Folklife Festival is going to be featuring Wales as one of its cultures this year. I think I shall go and lift a tankard, or whatever they provide us, to you. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 13:44, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I just enjoy the Festival, regardless of what they showcase. It's a lot of fun. And it's free, which is nicest of all. Speaking of which - the illustrations in the article are all mine. From last year. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 13:55, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Indeed - nice shot. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 15:16, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I'll give it some thought later today. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 18:21, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Not a big coffee drinker, but thanks all the same. Nice place, tho'. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 18:36, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Excellent - congratulations. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 04:22, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
Eh, ignore 'im. Fortunately people like him are few and far between. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 13:22, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Yeah - kind of surprising we didn't have one before. That's the kind of thing you'd think people would look into. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 13:38, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

I shall have to look when I get home - no Flickr access in the office. Don't want people slacking off at work, you know... --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 13:44, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
Indeed. Ah, well...not a lot of work today, so I may have to find something else to do. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 13:51, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Great source I just found

[edit]

Have you used the Encyclopedia of Mexican municipalities? It's pretty damn amazing. Mexico has 31 states, with tons of municipalities in each (Veracruz e.g. has 200). There aren't direct links to the municipality pages because of the damn frames they use, but navigate down to see how detailed the pages are. It's incredible! And btw you can change font size in firefox using ctrl+ to increase (actually control shift =) and ctrl- to decrease. Calliopejen1 (talk) 14:35, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Haha, I guess I hadn't noticed! The few municipalities I checked out here didn't have the links yet - I guess you just haven't gotten to them! Calliopejen1 (talk) 14:45, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, it probably should be added at least as a further reading link to all the municipalities. I assume you also know about the Archivo historico de localidades? Calliopejen1 (talk) 14:50, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Response

[edit]

I could do info boxes, but most of the unincorporated places in the US lack them and that seems to be the style, so I went with conformity. Also, WP isn't limited to what's on the web about sourcing; after all, most of the history of the gold rush and its communities on the web doesn't rise to the level of reliable sources, it's local tourist info, blogs, conjecture, myth presented as fact, and such. To sort wheat from chaff is more trouble than it's worth. There are some good sources, but they are books, and I have been using the ones I have access to. Anyone with greater access is free to expand any article, I don't WP:OWN them, and it's better to have stubs than not have them - at least basic data is then available from reliable sources on which to build. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 20:01, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

That may be preferable, but it seems that there is this immense anti-foreign places bias here. Faraway places with strange sounding names seems to get people up in arms regardless or how well documented the place is - and of course, there are the group of critics that don't trust foreign (especially foreign-language) sources at all. So, I have wiled away doing Gold Rush places in California, and the current unincorporated places - they are in the same sources usually so it's easiest to tackle them together. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 20:43, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I too have a touch of the utopian - otherwise, why bother here? Some of the places I added are former Native American settlements; they are mentioned at the USGS and the USGS references Bureau of Indian Affairs reports to which I don't have access but no doubt do exists somewhere. If all they say is that the place existed so be it, but it may be more by way of how the village operated when the BIA showed up (usually in the late 1800's or ealy 1900's), what tribe it belonged to, what was the basis of the economy, what missionaries and teachers were fervently Westernizing the folks, perhaps more? It's like a lot of the Ethnologue's good articles about world languages (esp. in Amazonia and Papua-New Guinea), good one-liners that may eventually get expanded but maybe not, and various authorities' articles about various newly-described species. Perhaps we should focus on more permanent items (in which I have made a small foray) see EX Hydrae and W Cephei - both of which may be around for a few more million years so that the articles may be expanded. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 21:05, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
With some effort, I have added some color to Diamondville, California. Not optimal, but more than one sentence. There seem to be lots of books on gold rush mining camps (probably focused on gold, brothels, hanging trees, and "draw, pardner", but nonetheless extant), which appear to be in print (and hence, not fully available at Google). Dredge, California I concede will be more difficult (in part due to the noise to signal ratio in searches as "dredge" was a common mining technique bringing up lots of hits which are of no value). Carlossuarez46 (talk) 22:07, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I still think a stake in the ground is worthwhile - perhaps I'm an optimist and think someone else may add something. I know that there is at least one other editor plowing through these sorts of places - he wrote on my talk. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 22:17, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

John Wollaston

[edit]

Wow, that was quick - thanks for the nomination! (Though I was about to do it myself, actually...great minds, and all. :-) ) Though honestly, I'm surprised we've gone this long without an article about Wollaston; he's probably about the most important American colonial portraitist whose name has come down to us. Speaking of which...I can't believe there isn't an article on John Hesselius, either. I'll work on remedying that soon. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 17:48, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Well...the thing is, a lot of portraitists from that era are unknown, for one reason or another. At least in the US. Wollaston is unusual in that a.) we know his name, and b.) he was remarkably prolific. And c.) he covered a wide range - most of his contemporaries stuck to one town or another for the bulk of their careers. Hesselius was the son of another guy (and thanks to this conversation I actually popped 'round to have a look at the father's page, and corrected some long-standing vandalism.) I always thought they were both rather awful as painters, honestly; I think they had a following primarily because they were there. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 18:04, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't care enough to edit-war, but any chance I can persuade you to reverse this change? That mud-brown color makes a really unpleasant color-clash with the prevalently blue (because they show so much sky and water) photographs which generally follow that particular header. – iridescent 19:11, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Ha! I just came across your DYK nomination. Great! We need more Herman Brood on the main page--look through the article's history and you'll see why I think so. ;) Drmies (talk) 19:26, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, yes I saw that it is an important article. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:28, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

  • I hope you don't mind--I butted in with a few little edits. Drmies (talk) 19:33, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

By all means expand it if you can! Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:34, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Suggestion

[edit]

Can I make a suggestion - please consider creating those articles on Dutch films in your userspace and move them into article space when they are at least at stub status. - Currently they are probably deleteable for lacking context and having blank/boilerplate sections. Exxolon (talk) 20:31, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

No they aren't. The content exists on Dutch wikipedia and once I have finished them I wil be working through ensuring they are all adequate stubs. They are filtered for notability and basically this is real content which is missing. If I don't start them this way then it gives me nothing to work towards. Just give me a week or two. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:34, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm not suggesting you don't start them this way, merely that you create them in your userspace FIRST (for instance at User:Dr._Blofeld/No Trains No Plains) then once they are at least reasonable stubs they can be moved into mainspace (No Trains No Plains in this instance.) Exxolon (talk) 20:37, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Ah I see what you mean, but that would mean me having to create an unnecessary amount of user pages and also to fix the links on the red links to my user and then afterwards move them to the mainspace. I've almost done creating them, but thanks. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:39, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

OK I've finished creating for the moment, i'll start 2001-present when the ones I've started have been filled it. It might seem unorthodox to you but if you are trying to get a whole cinema on here I find this the best way to do it. At least now we have existence to work with. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:44, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

The goal eventually is to have every article on a Dutch film looking like Black Book (film). Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:22, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

BAM! I recall creating the Dutch film stub cat a few months ago, and I just had 60 or 70 articles to make it necessary. Now it has over 370! If I could find a barnstar with a clog-motif, it would be yours! Lugnuts (talk) 10:00, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Sounds fine to me! Lugnuts (talk) 12:43, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm happy to work through the silent era stuff, if you'd like to work back from the present day? Lugnuts (talk) 13:12, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
I noticed that too when I added a few Dutch films via the Cannes festivals. Most other films from other countries had links to actors/directors, etc! Lugnuts (talk) 14:34, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
Sure - with pleasure. By the way - check your e-mail.
Incidentally, you've gotten my interest piqued about American colonial artists, and consequently I've gone and had a look at a couple of books we've got on the subject. And guess what? There are more than I realized - surely some good DYK fodder for down the road (on the docket, the first female artist in what would become the United States - keep an eye out for an expansion of Henrietta Johnston. How she got on here before Wollaston I'll never know...) --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 15:39, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
Yep, a British-film stub-split sounds good. Will help out with the Dutch films when I can - I've done all the silent-era ones now. And happy birthday too! Lugnuts (talk) 17:46, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, there was a ton of gaps when I worked through Marcello Mastroianni's filmography. I've made a note of a few Italian actors/directors, and I'm going to work through their filmogs when I get the chance. Lugnuts (talk) 18:13, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
There might be a couple I've missed, but all of them are done. Lugnuts (talk) 16:37, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm having some problems with this template. See for example, Andy Irons. The name box at the top isn't standard format, the width is off, and images are displayed larger than their normal resolution. Surfing specifications fields aren't working either, since if they are blank, they shouldn't show at all. Could you fix this or ask someone to help? Thanks. Viriditas (talk) 11:20, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick response! :) Viriditas (talk) 11:30, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
One other thing: Can you modify the infobox so that it aligns with the top of the text? Right now, the lead text is aligned in the middle, which is very strange. I think most infoboxes start at the top of the text, not above it. Viriditas (talk) 11:33, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
No biggie. I can probably fix it. I'm just about to hit the hay, though. Good night. Viriditas (talk) 11:37, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Andrzej Marian Bartczak

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Andrzej Marian Bartczak requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Diembéring CR

[edit]

Hi Dr. Blofeld,

I'm looking to translate , but I'm not sure what title format to use. The Diembéring article is about the eponymous city rather than the rural community. So far, none the articles about rural communities in Senegal have conflicting titles with other articles, so the decision about how to distiguish them hasn't come up yet. Whatever is decided, it should be consistently employed. We could go with the solution on the French Wikipedia (adding CR at the end), we could put "rural community" in brackets, or we could use some other disambiguator. Any thoughts?

I just want to put some stuff in the DYK queue before I head out. Should make for some interesting articles. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 16:42, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

I was just recently reminded of the old megalomania cabal, which can still be found at Wikipedia:List of cabals#Megalomaniac cabal. There isn't a link there, of course, because it never had a real page. Well, it does now. User:John Carter/Megalomaniac cabal. It needs pictures before we can really add a link to the list though. It might need a bit of formatting work too. I have a feeling you're better at both of them than me. You have any interest in it? John Carter (talk) 23:46, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Hey, thanks for nominating the articles on the brothers! I took the liberty of adding the donkey and the pig to the hook. It's fun working with you, and your exotic interests! (Remember uliger? I've been reading them.) Drmies (talk) 20:46, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
    • Next up, Willy Mullens himself. He went on to found Haghe film, which made a TON of very notable films, mainly documentaries--about the Afsluitdijk, the Elfstedentocht, everything. Oh, the references in the brothers' article for that Geschiedenis website by the VPRO has a lot of clips, including from that 1917 military movie. Enjoy! Drmies (talk) 20:53, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Man Without Pants

[edit]

Shame on you, you villain! I think you were talking about Wikipedia:Unusual articles#Television and film? I think it probably qualifies with the Big Dumb Object, The Puppy Channel, and, of course, Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Alien, Flesh Eating, Hellbound, Zombified Living Dead Part 2: In Shocking 2-D. I do note that the title is at least shorter than that of the last one above. John Carter (talk) 18:46, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Avengers image

[edit]

I wouldn't count on that calendar cover being kept very long on the Avengers article. Wikipedia's image use rules (which have become so draconian I rarely contribute to the project anymore) pretty much forbid that sort of image. Note that an image of a book cover - and calendars, as they carry ISBN numbers, are considered books - was removed as a fair use violation on this article. 68.146.81.123 (talk) 19:23, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

I'd heard that was actually a good movie. Now, I ain't so sure. Just out of curiosity, does she ever, um, breathe? John Carter (talk) 19:57, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

New articles

[edit]

I saw your comment somewhere about Radiofan tagging new articles. A few days ago he tagged this article with the notability tag (check the edit history). One thing that really annoys me is people citing policy, but have no understanding of it! He cites WP:BIO, when on the same page, WP:ENT, explains how an actor can be notable! Lugnuts (talk) 07:48, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

I have undid your edit to the above page as that AfD was closed over a year ago. Please do not re-post your post on that page. Thanks. —Mythdon t/c 13:27, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Well coming from a member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Tokusatsu I find it hard to take you seriously. OMG File:Wikiranger.png is literally the geekiest thing I've ever seen. Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:35, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Just don't edit any more closed AfD's, okay? —Mythdon t/c 13:39, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps its time for some new AFDs then? Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:40, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

If you'd like, you can go ahead and nominate the pages for deletion, if you think that's the option. Instructions can be found at WP:AFD. —Mythdon t/c 13:45, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Sure, I'll take a crack at it. Hope you are well! --Polylerus (talk) 14:50, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

-I completely understand your concerns. I just try to focus on the articles I've written or worked on and I for the most part don't think about what else is out there. There's a lot of cruft; a lot of good articles too. --Polylerus (talk) 15:03, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

-True, very true, and good point. Well, one step at a time. I don't know if my contributions will ever counterbalance the Power Rangers stuff, since it may be a losing battle, but let's break it down into manageable goals. You mentioned Egyptian churches: let's tackle that topic. Is there a list anywhere of churches that don't have articles? And I appreciate all of your concerns. I have enormous respect for you and your goals. Don't lose hope! --Polylerus (talk) 15:35, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

-Sure thing. Le Maison Troisgros was already in Wikipedia, but it was badly translated and was the same content. I did a redirect.--Polylerus (talk) 19:38, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Wow, that sound great. It looks like you got quite the reading list ahead of you! If you want some further reading to help with the article, consider taking a look at Google Books. I wish I could help you, but I do have a few projects I'm currently working on right now. However, if you need me to copyedit/fix referencing/etc. before nominating at GA/FA let me know and I'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 18:48, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure I haven't seen that film, I think I would have remembered the title! We'll be sure to add that to next month's newsletter. Since the beginning of the year, I've seen over 30 of his films (thanks to Blockbuster). He indeed needs a better article. It will be interesting to see how the final result (at least in a Wikipedia sense) of the Eastwood article turns out. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 19:20, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Ness Wadia - the Bombay Dyeing heir, a well-known businessman, who is associated with the Wadia Group and is a co-owner of Kings XI Punjab, was deleted from Wikipedia even without an AfD. I turned to the admin who delted it. I'm shocked. ShahidTalk2me 20:18, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

I was anyway going to remove your message, because it's closed. Good manners by the way. Don't reply. ShahidTalk2me 12:32, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
As far as I know, you're trying to delete an article, not save it. If you tried to save an article, I'd try to help you with my honest opinion, as I always did. I said I don't want you to do anything. The discussion is closed. Bye, ShahidTalk2me 12:49, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Well it's over now I hope. Thanks for your help with Burman. I'll have a look at the AfD some later. ShahidTalk2me 14:25, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Yawn Yawn??? Well nobody was ever so cynical towards me. And nobody dared to. If I didn't want to just keep it the way it is, I'd show you what real rudeness is. And I think you full well know in what level of unpoliteness I can be in such situations. But your attitude is far more childish than I expected it to be, so I'll just rest my case here. I'll say something I have already said. I'm very happy we had these lovely discussions because that's how I got to know you better. Go ahead and remove this section too. Please do not write a reply. I'm gone. ShahidTalk2me 19:00, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm being rude towards most of the editors here? Let's say the one of yesterday? I was extremely nice when first talking to him, was I not? Check it. OT chck this anon... Anything wrong? Or see the one I talked to yesterday about Aishwarya, anything wrong?.
What you said about me is exactly what I think about you. According to you I offend those who "try to edit the Bollywood related articles"? Just now I get that you think I'm actually screwing everybody's good efforts? The truth is that I've always tried to help new editors and fought only those who had terrible POV they wanted to implement on WP. So obviously if someone tries to restore a stupid Bollywood and plagiarism page or wants to make a Queen of Bollywood page or say that Sridevi is the best actress ever and Aamir and Shahrukh are the gretest, or a Sarvagnya will blank half pages of those we've all worked hard on, I won't appreciate them and often get angry and argumentative ... But I don't fight those who disagree with me; I've had fantastic collaborations with editors of wildly disparate views. I fight injustice and anything that's against the way this site works.
I have examples of you being extremely impolite to certain editors in the near past. It doesn't matter though. And don't give half quotes. The quotes are "I'm busy Shahid can't you see????" (if you'd said you're busy, that would've been fine by me. Everyone has his own problems), or "could you please STOP... It's the last time I help you out", or maybe "yawn yawn" is better? I hope you're not yawning now when you're reading this message. That was a terrible thing to see frankly.
And after you came up with what you said, I told you that you were funny, and I really found that funny because your angriness comes all of a sudden and I can't but laugh. And I said that despite your talking manner I like you. I was sincere when I said that. I did not make fun of you. That was the most calm and positive reaction of mine to someone who just shouted at me. You obviously misinterpreted it. And then I wrote you that I was kidding and thanked you for everything (reread the message) and that your behaviour was childish cause you misunderstood and I clarified that I was kidding. And I got in response a great wide double yawn.
Well let's get over it, don't wanna discuss this. ShahidTalk2me 11:50, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Obviously not. I know how much you helped me, and that's why I always rate you high. It's yet another inappropriate reproach from you. I think I have always been there to lend a helping hand whenever you needed. I remember so many times editors offended you and you left Wikipedia, and I was getting so mad at them and discussing this with them. Don't remember how we got to know each other? You needed my help on the lists. Don't forget that whenever you needed something I've been there for you, cheering you up, and advising. Go through your archives. I think I've always acknowledged your for your extraordinary help. Let's wrap this up here. ShahidTalk2me 12:22, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Kojaktelly.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Kojaktelly.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:06, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

DYK for John Wollaston (painter)

[edit]
Updated DYK query On 9 May, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article John Wollaston (painter), which you recently nominated. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Dravecky (talk) 20:02, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

I am impressed with your recent work on this article since I cast my initial opinion to delete it. Unlike many other similar types of articles that have been created as stubs and then abandoned, you have made a worthy article of this one. By comparison, List of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers episodes actually needs much less work to bring it up to par amongst articles of a similar type. From what I understand here it seems that we may have to agree to disagree about what Wikipedia means to us. I understand entirely the desire to make the best possible articles on science, the humanities, and culture for the very reason that we do call ourselves an "encyclopedia". Indeed, it could be seen as Wikipedia's raison d'etre. However, I see no reason why these articles cannot co-exist with articles on popular culture subjects. The fact that Wikipedia is open to articles on subjects not found in your typical paper encyclopedia is, to me, a strength based on its open editorship and web based nature. Again, I applaud your efforts on Belgium–Ukraine relations and wish that time to research and my areas of expertise gave me the chance to improve more articles on topics with real-world implications than I have contributed to in the past. I do what I can where I can, in which areas I can, so I think we should both do what we do best. Wikipedia as a whole will be the better for it. Regards, BlueSquadronRaven 20:26, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Actually, it is a bloody good article, particularly for what might be described as such an abstruse subject. I really hope it gets DYK'ed. It's better than most any of the DYK articles I've ever done, anyway. John Carter (talk) 20:46, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Ness Wadia

[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Ness Wadia at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Keep going, it needs a bit more text. Cheers, Paxse (talk) 12:07, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately there isn't much about his personal life. 95% of what you see on the net is related with Zinta. Even sources which give info about him present him as her boyfriend. Click on his google images, most of them are with Zinta. The only sites which present him individually, are the Wadia Group and the Bombey Dyeing, which don't talk about his personal life but his work. There's not much we can add about his relationship with Zinta cause it'll sound like gossip. After all, every gossip and media speculation is because of Zinta (he is notable definitely, but he was not known at all, and became famous thanks to her). What needed to be added is there now, and it's good now.
But the article is fine, so it's OK now. ShahidTalk2me 13:23, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
It's just a typical rumour of their relationship and it's always been like this, they marry they breakup and so on... Zinta apparently denied this. The rumour started because he wasn't with her at the Filmfare Awards... How stupid... ShahidTalk2me 13:39, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Howdy Bald One and Gidday Shahid (I really enjoy your Indian articles). You folks need to get prosesize.js installed in your monobook files. This is an absolute minimum script if you're going to do any serial DYK nominating or reviewing. DYK has piles of rules on what counts as prose in an article (nothing except paragraphs of text basically, not even the headings) and what doesn't (which is nearly everything else). Rather than keeping up with all this crap, you can just hit the new page size button in your toolbox on the left and get an instant prose count. DYKcheck is an even better tool (it checks a myriad of other weird stuff in the DYK rules as well and can automatically calculate 5X expansions itself). Check [[2]] and here [[3]] for both. I'm looking for some new noms, Blofeld got any others you don't fancy nominating yourself? Newarticlebot is on holidays :) Cheers, Paxse (talk) 14:47, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Ah, you've listed them yourself already you great Nonce :) I took a short break from districts - needed a change. I've finished Banteay Meanchey, Kampong Cham, Pursat and Kampong Chhnang so far. Not a bad effort, I reckon. One of them actually got 8.6k hits in a few hours on the front page. I've started Kampong Speu with Basedth District which ran at DYK last week. I'm not giving up on the project, I'll probably do a few more this week. How is the wiki (and Real Life) treating you? Paxse (talk) 15:52, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi friend!

[edit]

How are you going? I am getting very excited - we just have to finish off some details for the cover of my book (hopefully this week) and then I can upload all my files to the publishers (who, if they don't find too much wrong with it say that it should be available on Amazon.com and other sources within a few weeks). I can hardly wait!!!!

I am also feeling much better - with far less pain - since my GP put me on a new drug a few days ago which selectively blocks pain from the Central Nervous System - including the spine. I just have to be careful not to get too excited and overdo things as my spine is indeed very fragile (which is why the butchers are leery of operating on it). Anyway, one only has to take 2 pills a day (every 12 hours) rather than every 3 hours or so for codeine - so I have actually slept right through the last 3 nights without waking - something I haven't been able to enjoy for several years - what a great feeling!

I am giving it a month's trial and then will decide whether to continue with it - it is expensive as it is not yet on our Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (where the maximum one pays for a prescription is $5.30) - and I am watching out for possible side effects - but, so far, it looks like it will be really worthwhile - though these are early days yet and I shouldn't be counting my chickens. However, I have been beginning to dip back into Wikipedia articles a bit more frequently again - lack of pain certainly helps in this regard. :^))

Just thought I would bring you up to date on what was happening with me. Do write and let me know what you are up to when you have a spare moment sometime.

All my very best wishes, John Hill (talk) 12:57, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks so much for the kind note. It is sad having to take such medication but, believe me, I am thrilled it is available when I need it - it has only been on the market for a couple of years. Now, about my book - I was going to try to give you a brief description - but I have never been very good at brief summaries, so I have decided to give you the blurb which I have written for the back cover which should give you a fair picture of what it is all about. I am sorry it is so long:

THROUGH THE JADE GATE TO ROME
This first English translation of the ‘Chronicle on the Western Regions’ from the Hou Hanshu presents an intriguing picture of a little-known period of history ‒ the origins of the Silk Road. The work is based on information collected from Chinese merchants, explorers and spies. It was presented to the Chinese Emperor around 125 CE by Ban Yong, then Senior General in the Western Regions.
The Chronicle contains the earliest geographical, historical, political and cultural information in Chinese on the Roman Empire, Egypt, India, Parthia, and many other kingdoms, as well as their products, and the routes between them. Along these trade routes an exchange of philosophies, goods and technologies developed on a scale that would not be seen again for 1400 years.
The text itself deserves to be better known. The translated text, faced with the original Chinese, is amply annotated. Included are 20 appendices and two maps showing the main centres and routes. This treasure house of remarkable facts and speculations should appeal to both scholars and the curious.
The translator and author, John Hill, an independent scholar, has been fascinated by the exchange of peoples, cultures, religions and trade between Asia, Europe and Africa since his youth. He has travelled extensively in Asia since 1973 exploring archaeological sites, museums and routes.
He began work on this book in 1979 while living in India and has continued gathering information, communicating with historians and other specialists around the world ever since. Their generous contributions have helped make this book an authoritative and useful historical source.
John now lives in tropical far north Queensland, Australia, 300 km from the nearest traffic lights."

Cheers and all best wishes, John Hill (talk) 23:47, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Bilateral relations

[edit]

Arriving at formal consensus is a lot harder than you seem to be implying. Believe me, one of the ArbComs I'm in now is about a matter which hasn't had a real consensus yet in the history of wikipedia. But you might cite the guidelines at Wikipedia:WikiProject International relations#Bilateral relations regarding the criteria for notability. I think it would be hard to debate those, which seem to be the ones arrived at by the "experts" in the field. John Carter (talk) 15:34, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Photo

[edit]

The studying is coming all right... Now I just have one 20- to 25-page paper for Friday, and a Spanish final (but that doesn't really count does it?) the following Wednesday. I can't believe I'm so close to done with law school... As for the photo, I don't think it has much of a chance at FP. The main problem is it has relatively low EV. It's being used in Fiskardo but it doesn't give a good idea of what the city looks like. A normal shot during the day would probably do better. (This is more like what I'm thinking of, but unfortunately the quality is bad.) Calliopejen1 (talk) 22:27, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
