Non-free images at Natural Disaster Survival

[edit]

Hi Alex, I see you're working on one of your first articles at Natural Disaster Survival. Two things: 1) Wikipedia is the free encyclopedia so we put a large emphasis here on keeping things free and accessible to our readers. That means that for most articles, you're limited to one copyrighted image (see rule #3a at WP:NFCCP and WP:NFC for more detailed explanation of the rules). The ability to claim "fair use" on Wikipedia is severely restricted (see WP:NFC) because we want to obey copyright laws and keep Wikipedia running without lawsuits. 2) Articles need to meet the general notability guideline to stay on Wikipedia. Currently, this article does not demonstrate that it meets the guideline. It needs multiple independent and significant sources to make that claim and establish notability.

And separately, Template:Sexual content is not appropriate because Wikipedia is not censored. Anyone is allowed to view any article for any reason. Warning templates like this are only made for things that comply with Wikipedia policies and guidelines and this warning is explicitly against policy. For this reason, I will be nominating this template for deletion. This is not a negative reflection on you as a person or as an editor; it is simply the way these things get cleaned up here. As a new editor, I recommend you spend some more time getting familiar with article editing and seeing how templates are used before starting to edit in the Template space. Welcome to Wikipedia and I wish you well on your editing career. Axem Titanium (talk) 00:23, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright in the images of the article Natural Disaster Survival? Well, I am currently working on the article and I have taken screenshots of the Roblox game and also the videogame cover to make the article more noticeable and I still have to take more, but, I am supposed to put the proper free license on them to the files. Alex Julián Martínez (talk) 00:44, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
because they have the license that it is a screenshot of the video game Alex Julián Martínez (talk) 00:44, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Video game screenshots are not generally free, not even ones you take yourself. You have uploaded them using a fair use license, {{Non-free game screenshot}}. When you take a screenshot of a video game, you are essentially taking a picture of a copyrighted work. The copyright still applies, even though you took the picture, thus making it fair use (aka non-free). Axem Titanium (talk) 01:19, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I know, but the issue with the article I'm working on I need to take additional screenshots regarding gameplay to give the article visibility, but would there be a template to properly license local fair use files? Because if its use is restricted, I'm worried that the files will be deleted because the non-free files must also be used in an article and if the files are deleted it's possible that the article I'm working on will be redirected or transferred to draft-space. Alex Julián Martínez (talk) 01:49, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Articles are not kept or deleted on the basis of number of screenshots/illustrations. Most video game articles make do with just 1 non-free image. It is likely that the additional image files above your allotted 1 non-free fair use image will be deleted. Fair use only covers minimal use (i.e. 1 image at most). As it stands, the biggest issue with the article is not that it's insufficiently illustrated with screenshots. The biggest issue is that it does not assert notability using reliable sources. Axem Titanium (talk) 06:37, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I know, but I tagged the screenshots of the game with the template that it is a screenshot of a video game and since they are Roblox I cannot export them or upload them to Commons because they will be deleted by derivative work (Roblox) or through Commons:Deletion requests, such as for global use, unless they need authorization and I am in charge of presenting the owner and receiving their permission. Alex Julián Martínez (talk) 18:34, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Your screenshots may have a license statement, but they do not have a non-free usage rationale which is just one of the problems. The use of non-free images must meet all of the non-free content criteria. As Axem Titanium already mentioned most game articles get by with a single non-free image. The reason for that is that we try to minimize the non-free content. Adding a large number of non-free images will likely run afoul of WP:NFCC#3. -- Whpq (talk) 21:14, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Whpq Yes to that bunch of files and I will provide the explanation of why they are allowed because I have to use them to establish notoriety for this article. Alex Julián Martínez (talk) 21:26, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I guarantee you that these will not meet the non-free content criteria. You are wasting your time uploading these images. -- Whpq (talk) 21:28, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but the article that I am working on will use the files, but I will add a summary of why they are allowed to my uploads, because if I did not add those images, the article would not fulfill its notoriety. Alex Julián Martínez (talk) 21:30, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Notability is established with significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources, and not by adding a bunch of non-free images. -- Whpq (talk) 21:31, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It is that the article that I am working on is about a Roblox video game that there are hardly a few websites to add as a reference in the article but I cannot export my uploads to Commons or upload them there because screenshots of Roblox video games are They are considered "Derivative Works" and are immediately deleted which is why I uploaded them locally. Alex Julián Martínez (talk) 21:34, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Alex, please spend the time to thoroughly read Wikipedia:Notability before you continue to work on this article or add more images to it. As Whpq said, you need independent sources that establish Notability, not more pictures. Without them, the article is likely going to be deleted regardless of how many images you add to it. Axem Titanium (talk) 22:59, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Axem Titanium Ok, I will continue adding references, but it is that according to the website where the text of the article is incorporated, in the table sections it includes images to give the article notoriety but I was adding the screenshots of the video game so that those who wish to consult the article understand a little more about the game of Roblox but by the warning that they left at the end of the article of the text where it comes from the page I hope that those who wish to consult the article read that website for more details of images because if not, I think that I will no longer add more images of this game in the sections of the article. Non-free rationale for File:NDS - Map Rainbow Ride.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:NDS - Map Rainbow Ride.jpeg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 21:14, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Un Cigarrillo

[edit]

Hello Alex Julián Martínez,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Un Cigarrillo for deletion, because it's a redirect that seems implausible or is an unlikely search term.

If you don't want Un Cigarrillo to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Hats off to you for trying to save this article. I want to see it saved more than anyone as this game gives me fond memories from way back in 2016-2018. Let's hope your sources get through to the deletion page. Good luck and may the Force be with you. Blitzfan51 the manager 21:34, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Natural Disaster Survival

[edit]

Hey Alex, I wanted to let you know I have undid your revert to Natural Disaster Survival and why.

First, This is not "your page" but Wikipedia's and is can be changed by Wikipedia editors based on Consensus based on Policies and guidelines (see WP:OWN).

Second, all articles on Wikipdia's must conform to Wikipedia's rules. Wikipedia is not a game guide Game guide (WP:GAMEGUIDE) or list of fictional objects in games (WP:INDISCRIMINATE). I would advice you read WP:VGSCOPE to see what game articles on Wikipedia can't be. Cakelot1 ☞️ talk 16:48, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I was wrong, I just said it was "my page" supposedly because of removing the redirect to the article, but then the other game details that I had added to the page I have to give them additional styling to fit. the policy, or, to which Wikimedia Wiki should they be transferred? + The images that should be in the article, that's why I had restored the previous version in the article. ~ Alex | Leave me a message on my talk page! 16:51, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I still don't understand why you think we need to keep these images. WP:NFCC is pretty clear that the use of non-free images should be kept to an absolute minimum and Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding. All these images are already available elsewhere, on the Roblox Wiki, so I'm not sure what you think is lost by not having them here. Wikipedia is not image repository, after all. Cakelot1 ☞️ talk 17:19, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, but I had added more details because I think that for those who consult the article, they know that the Roblox game exists and that the article is more detailed with images, but I know the references are necessary and I will add them ~ Alex | Leave me a message on my talk page! 18:08, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And by the way, and if the article Natural Disaster Survival results in the delete query "keep" it's fine, but in the other Wikipedias it can be translated and they may link where the text comes from but if it's the same as where "I" got it from I copied, the consultants of the article will not understand (for example in Wikipedia in Spanish) ~ Alex | Leave me a message on my talk page! 18:10, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Alex, you'll note in this diff (link) that you didn't actually change anything, certainly not the above motioned problems of WP:GAMECRUFT, WP:GAMEGUIDE and WP:NFCC. I ask that you at least skim these links to see why your preferred version is not acceptable. If you want to experiment with tables I recommend you do it in your sandbox and if you want to preserve images of your favorite games you do it on the the appropriate Wiki or on somwhere like Moby Games? Cakelot1 ☞️ talk 20:34, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Be Careful

[edit]

I saw that you undid 5 revisions by pizzaplayer. Be careful, you're only allowed to revert someone's edit 3 times a day. Anything beyond that can be considered edit warring. Blitzfan51 the manager 17:10, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me! It is that I was justifying the files that I uploaded for non-free use and since they were in use, that is why I removed the templates ~ Alex | Leave me a message on my talk page! 17:13, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Blitzfan51, WP:3RR doesn't refer to the number of "revisions" you undo, but the number of times you go back and forth between versions of a page. Thus far Alex has reverted exactly once, and has stopped while discussions are ongoing. This is absolutely the correct thing to do. BITING new users based on your misinterpretation of policies is not. Please try not to chastise editors when they haven't done anything wrong. Cakelot1 ☞️ talk 17:24, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
you're right. I'm sorry. I just didn't want him banned. Blitzfan51 the manager 18:33, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
