Snow Creek Village
[edit]Hi Brien. Snow Creek Village, California is south of Interstate 10 near Cabazon, I think. It's between Beaumont and Whitewater somewhere. It consists of about 40 homes: a small place. It was described in the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Riverside Ranger Unit Fire Management Plan 2005. The plan talks about areas with vegetation fire problems — so someplace of similar size out by Blythe might not be listed. User:David Jordan 11/27/2006.
Riverside County, California
[edit]You've been doing some nice work to the Riverside County, California article.
You might be interested in the Southern California WikiProject. Take a look at the project, and if you have any questions about the project (or the Wikipedia in general), feel free to contact me. BlankVerse 10:47, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Footnotes Notice
[edit]Brien, thanks for emphasizing the importance of the footnote notice to me. I'll be sure to include it in future reference sections I add to articles. Rmannion 01:42, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Spelling
[edit]Welcome, and thank you for correcting spelling on Wikipedia! However, both spellings of the word you "corrected" are acceptable.
Please familiarize yourself with American and British English spelling differences before making further spelling corrections to articles. Wikipedia has 48,199,394 registered users on this English Wikipedia. These editors use different versions of English including American English and British English. The list of dialects of the English language goes on and on.
When many styles are acceptable, avoid changing from one style to another unless there is some substantial reason for the change. It is acceptable to change from American spelling to British spelling only if the article concerns a British topic or vice versa or if you are making the article internally consistent.
More information is available at Wikipedia's Manual of Style. Enjoy your time on the encyclopedia. Thank you. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 23:11, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- The original spelling was adequate, I was reverting someone who changed styles unnecessarily. Brien Clark 00:29, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Oops, Brien, small goof
[edit]Brien -
First, welcome to Wikipedia. I understand that you've been around only a few months, and this can be a bit of a confusing place. Here's a suggestion . . . WikiProject tags are generally placed on articles where they belong. I notice that you've been changing a bunch of WikiProject California tags to WikiProject Southern California tags. Would you be kind enough to add all those WikiProject California tags back? If you are a member of WikiProject Southern California, you're certainly welcome to add those tags to cities in Southern California - but please don't remove the WikiProject California tags! Those cities are after all, still in California, and can easily be part of both projects - both WikiProject California and WikiProject Southern California. In fact, there are many articles here that are part of multiple WikiProjects.
So, no harm, no foul - if you could re-add the WikiProject California tags, that will save work for others. If you have any questions about these WikiProjects, I'll be glad to explain it further. Spamreporter1 22:26, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- Brien: I left a message on User:Spamreporter1's talk page explaining that what you were doing was a Good Thing. BlankVerse 01:19, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- Brien: I had no idea you were changing tags too; I thought everyone was talking about just me. Hey, I support your actions so far and hope we'll all come to a consensus soon. —ScouterSig 07:16, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- P.S. Actually, not all your actions: I would have left Riverside County, California tagged as both; counties are big, important, and since there is only 54 of them (offhand, I think), they should stay also in WP:CAL. —ScouterSig 07:16, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Charter Oak Unified School District
[edit]Regarding the red link on your user page, there is an article for Charter Oak Unified School District, although not yet one for Charter Oak High School. BlankVerse 01:21, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- If you look at the Wikipedia:Schoolwatch archives, you will see that although there are plenty of schools that get nominated for deletion at WP:AFD, that after all the Sturm und Drang of the AFD process, that almost all high schools survive the deletion nomination (no matter how crappy a substub the article may be), although in many cases the decision of the closing admin is that there was no consensus to delete (rather than a consensus not to delete).
- If you have created a pretty good article, I'd suggest going ahead and creating the page if you want to. On the other hand, if all you have is a stub-sized version, create the Charter Oak High School article as a redirect to Charter Oak Unified School District, and then add the stub-sized info to the school district article. BlankVerse 05:57, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
User Spamreporter1 has made a proposal for the tagging issue. He was not previously involved with either project before seeing this discussion, and I belive that his opinion therefore is NPOV. The suggestion is that articles that have no state-wide scope be tagged only locally. Please go to this section on the SoCal page to provide input. —ScouterSig 18:45, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well, that whole thing went nowhere, and now I think KP hates me, since he deleted my attempt to apologize. Well, we can still double-tag. —ScouterSig 14:34, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Your reversion of Order of the Stick
[edit]While the edits you reverted were unhelpful on the whole, they do not fit wikipedia's definition of vandalism. Not every bad edit is vandalism, and calling it such can be biting the newbies. Please be more cautious in your edit summaries. i kan reed 21:44, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, cool, we've all made that mistake. i kan reed 22:04, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Dot-maps
[edit]Actually, the methods I use are somewhat crude but effective. For U.S. dot-maps, I find one of Wikipedia's U.S. state maps with outlined counties (one county will usually be a solid red color) and use a simple graphics editor/paint program to remove the red and touch things up a bit. This gives me my template map (which I add the small red dot to). For visual location data, I mostly use the U.S. Census Bureau's TIGER mapping database [1], move the red dot graphic around the map and save the image (repeat ad nauseum). Then the maps need to be converted to PNG format if they aren't already in that format (mine start out as BMP format). Then the maps are uploaded to either English Wikipedia or (with my recent ones) to Wikimedia Commons with appropriate licensing information, etc. Lastly, the city/place articles are edited to include the map images. Hope this clarifies things a bit :) Bumm13 06:35, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
thanks Brien
[edit]Hey Brien. My name is Craig Watts. You helped me out in moving my arugument with another member about the violence in Bakersfield to the discussion board. I appreciate that. I knew nothing about the discussion boards as I have only been to Wikipedia a few times. I also decided to create an account and look forward to contributing more to the site. Thanks. Bakersfield edits up again
[edit]While the posts are good faith edits, he is providing a little too much info which begin to approach what Wikipedia is not (an indescrimate source of information). No other article I have on watch has as much info on notable people unless they are not well known outside the community. His recent attended HS edit along with Sports Illustrated info do not reflect proper sourcing/citations.
He left a note on my talkpage which I answered about POV push I reverted. I could use your help as I do not wish to appear biased towards this user. Ronbo76 17:23, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- I wrote a message on his talk page. I agree, his edits appear to be in good faith. I'm not sure if it's too much information or not. I don't think I've seen any discussion on this at WP:CITY, though maybe it's in an archived discussion. When I get a chance, I'll peruse through the archives. Thanks for the heads-up. Brien ClarkTalk 21:38, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for responding back Brien. I have now read the articles about editing. Anyway, I would save the page so frequently becasue I was adding pro athletes I know of from Bakersfield to the site. I would add one, save it, add another, save it, and so forth. I know not to do that now. But, I thought adding little tid-bits of informaton about athletes such as Joey Porter would be cool for people to see. Is that something that is forbidden on here, or would I just need to refer back to the date of the Issue, page number, and everything else when I mentioned Sports Illustrated? Thanks again for your understanding and helpful approach in showing me ways to use the site correctly. I'm learning a lot. Cdubbz1 14:46, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Craig
- Hi B.C., I seen your post at {{Infobox City}} about Bakersfield's infobox. I added the standard template to the article. Let me know if that helps. It took about 5 minutes to do. —MJCdetroit 16:31, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hi MJC. Thanks for correcting the infobox, it does look better (and more uniform). I haven't really played around with any infoboxes; I'm glad it was a quick fix. Brien ClarkTalk 17:12, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- See {{Infobox City}} for the empty sytax code and an explanation table. Although, if you notice, I actually rigged the logo look better in the box. Cheers, —MJCdetroit 17:15, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll have to check it out. I also saw you correct Ontario, California's infobox as well. Thanks again, Brien ClarkTalk 00:00, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Inland Empire & Crime/Gangs
[edit]Hi Brien.
Since no sources have turned up in favor of the "Gangs" section of the IE page, I removed it and merged the relevant crime information with another section. Stop on by and give a look-over when you can.

First off, I apologize for the spam. You are receiving this message because you have indicated that you are in Southern California or interested in Southern California topics (either via category or WikiProject).
I would like to invite you to the Los Angeles edition of Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art, a photography scavenger hunt to be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. All photos are intended for use in Wikipedia articles or on Wikimedia Commons. There will be a prize available for the person who gets the most photos on the list.
If you don't like art, why not come just to meet your fellow Wikipedians. Apparently, we haven't had a meetup in this area since June 2006!
If you are interested in attending, please add your name to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art#Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Please make a note if you are traveling to the area (train or plane) and need transportation, which can probably be arranged via carpool, but we need time to coordinate. Lodging is as of right now out of scope, but we could discuss that if enough people are interested.
Thank you and I hope to see you there! howcheng {chat} 23:37, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
