Hi. I upgraded it to a B, which is the highest rating it can get without a formal review. I suggest taking it to WP:GA, which is the next highest rating. From a quick glance (and I admit that it was very quick), it looks like a good candidate for that. They'll hopefully give you a few tips for improvement as well. Cheers, CP 17:11, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

I've reviewed the article and left notes on the talk page. I've put the nomination on hold for seven days to allow the issues to be addressed. Feel free to contact me on my talk page, here, or on the article talk page with any concerns, and let me know one of those places when the issues have been addressed. If I may suggest that you strike out, check mark, or otherwise mark the items I've detailed, that will make it possible for me to see what's been addressed, and you can keep track of what's been done and what still needs to be worked on. Ealdgyth - Talk 16:39, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I'll look it over in the morning, I'm traveling and just getting through the FAC stuff I needed to do wiped me out. I'm sure it will be fine, the article was basically sound, just a few things I noticed, etc. Ealdgyth - Talk 04:44, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Angus

do what I do... drop a note on User talk:Elcobbola's page asking about the image. Say you're thinking of going to FAC with the article, and ask E's advice. E does most of the image issues at FAC, so it'd be who I'd ask. Might as well ask direct! Ealdgyth - Talk 01:26, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Angus and princess resized.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Angus and princess resized.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:30, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

I have linked this image to the article, Angus Lewis Macdonald.

RE: question re non-free/fair use image

Hi, Bwark, I apologize for the belated response. Image:Angus and princessfull.jpg is in a peculiar spot, as the existing policy is not as precise as it should be. Currently, WP:IUP (as per Jimbo) prohibits usage of “by permission” images. The conundrum is that I’m not sure whether this applies to images claimed as fair use, or just images claimed as “free enough” (e.g. CC, GFDL, etc.) Common sense leads me to suspect only the latter to be the case, but I will check around for confirmation.

In the mean time, it is appropriately tagged as a fair use image. I might suggest, however, tweaking the rationale and/or article to better demonstrate that the threshold of “significant contribution to our understanding [of Macdonald]” (WP:NFCC#8) has been met. For example: a brief discussion in the article about any outcome, reaction, etc. as a direct or proximate result of this meeting (unless it’s there and I’ve missed it?) and tweaking the rationale to specifically address importance to Macdonald himself (currently, importance to providence culture seems to be the focus, which probably shouldn’t be the case as that is not the topic of the article) would be helpful. Other, more minor issues with the image include the incorrect assertion that “This is the only non-free image in this article” (Image:Angus l macdonald book.jpg is also being claimed as fair use; this is another issue; see below) and that the image is not low resolution (required per WP:NFCC#3B). Low resolution is technically no larger than 300 pixels horizontally or vertically. I’m not a huge stickler for this, but the current size is excessive. No more than 400 or 500 pixels would be advisable.

Thanks so much for your valuable advice. I have linked to a smaller version of the photo and have provided a bit more information on the significance of the British Crown to Macdonald and to Nova Scotia (albeit only in the photo caption). I'm not sure though that this will be sufficient. In the meantime, I'm looking for other free images to illustrate this article.Bwark (talk) 15:43, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Image:Angus l macdonald book.jpg (fair use) is substantially the same image as Image:Angus L Macdonald portrait.jpg (public domain). NFCC#1 disallows fair use when a free alternative/equivalent is available. Given that the cover is merely the same image with text, I don’t believe that the fair use book cover is supported. Any identification or illustrative roles could be fulfilled by the PD image and/prose. Now a moot point, but the image also lacks an adequate rationale.

I have eliminated this image from the article.Bwark (talk) 15:43, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Finally, see WP:MOS#Images regarding left-alignment of images under level two headers (===) and forcing of thumbnail size. ЭLСОВВОLД talk 14:57, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

John A. Macdonald

That was very strange and not my intention. I have restored the full article. See the explanation as to what happened at Talk:John A. Macdonald#Major revisions make this a much weaker article. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 20:53, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

I asked about it at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#A years revert in one go and I obviously reverted back to before the first edit made by 142.24.19.113, which was 22 May 2007. I feel a little stupid. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 22:27, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

BWark: The FA nomination was successful. Thank you again. Kablammo (talk) 15:23, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello Bwark. I have listed your article as a GA. I have listed her as an educator in the Wikipedia:Good articles#Educators section. I hope that's not wrong. Even if it is, you can modify that. Hope to see this article at FAC soon. Good Luck, KensplanetTalkContributions 17:00, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Please accept this Barnstar from me

The Society Barnstar
I award this Society Barnstar to Bwark for his excellent efforts in honing the Ursula Franklin article and successfully elevating it to Good Article status. KensplanetTalkContributions 17:15, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

For the image you uploaded, Image:Russell MacLellan.jpg, do you have some sort of official statement claiming that the copyright holder gave signed permission to use the image freely? Gary King (talk) 22:54, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

You don't have to email the letter to me. Please send an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with the letter attached to the email, and please of course also mention the image's URL at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Russell_MacLellan.jpg . Thanks! Gary King (talk) 16:29, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi, I am sorry if I aggravated you, that was not my intent. Please have a look at this page: Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of premiers of Nova Scotia. Specifically, please find the part where the image in question is mentioned. Gary King (talk) 03:31, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Image permission problem with Image:Ursula_Franklin_at_book_launch.jpg

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Ursula_Franklin_at_book_launch.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. howcheng {chat} 23:04, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

New article

B-- Given your excellent work on Harold Innis I thought you might be interested in contributing to North American Fur Trade. This new article is very much in the start class. Your familiarity with Innis' work could provide valuable information on the background and effects of that trade. In fact, parts of Harold Innis and the fur trade could be condensed and inserted in the new article, with a

or

cross- reference as appropriate. Regards, and best wishes for the new year. Kablammo (talk) 16:20, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Can you please add the source (i.e. where you got the image) to this file's description page? Stifle (talk) 18:52, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

I got the image from the publishing company Between the Lines. I have added that information to the image file's description page. Bwark (talk) 19:15, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
