TFD note
For future reference, when you nominate a template for merging with another one, even if the outcome is unanimous and a clear consensus, please do not actually implement the merge until the discussion has been formerly closed. Thank you.
As a minor note, {{merged from}} and other similar templates are placed on the talk page, not the template. Primefac (talk) 15:02, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you, noted for future reference. I was careful to read through the documentation, but it involves ploughing through vast screeds of text. It does suggest that it acceptable to carry out a merger "if a consensus in favor of the merger is formed in less than 30 days, then anyone may perform the merger whenever they want." In this case, I gave it a week and there very little response and no objections. How a discussion should be formally closed is not especially clear. I always aim to comply with WP procedures, but like so many of the rules here, the procedure is badly written and difficult to follow, even with the highest good faith intentions! As a consequence of being bewildered by impenetrable rules, I overlooked the correct use of the talk page templates you mentioned. Will try harder next time! Cnbrb (talk) 15:40, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
- Technically speaking a "merge" discussion is different from a "TFD" discussion. You're right, if you post on the talk page(s) "I want to merge templates X, Y, and Z" and no one objects, you're welcome to implement the change before "the full 30 days" are up. However, TFDs are formal discussions that (like other XFDs) take place over a minimum of a week, and should not be acted upon before their closure (barring SNOW closes, withdrawals, or creator-requested deletions). Primefac (talk) 15:44, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
- How is a discussion closed then? Cnbrb (talk) 15:47, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
- Admin comes in and closes it. Sometimes they're not closed at exactly the seven-day mark, but there isn't a deadline or anything. Primefac (talk) 15:49, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
- Noted. I'll wait for closure next time. Sometimes if you wait around for permission to do things, you can be hanging on for literally years, so often it seems better to just press ahead. Cnbrb (talk) 15:53, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hehe, fair enough. The general rule of thumb is that if it's on an "official" noticeboard someone will probably see it ;) Primefac (talk) 16:03, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

Charles Pelham, Lord Worsley
Hi there. Not sure if you still have the article on your watchlist, but am dropping off a note to let you know that I've added to Charles Pelham, Lord Worsley, who you created an article on in 2008. Actually, come to think of it, the notification system alerts everyone now about changes to articles they created, I think. Or maybe it is only when people link to an article you create. Anyway, see what you think. I note in passing that a memorial booklet was produced, but it does not appear to be online. Carcharoth (talk) 10:28, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
- Hello and thanks for getting in touch. Your level of courtesy is possibly unique among Wikipedia editors! Thanks for your edits, it's nice to know that the article is receiving some attention. I think I only created it to add a link to the article on the sculptor Charles Sargeant Jagger. However, if you're looking for some online book sources, try Google books. Here are a few. Happy editing! Cnbrb (talk)
Happy St. David's Day
The leek is one of the national emblems of Wales, worn along with the daffodil (in Welsh, the daffodil is known as "Peter's leek", Cenhinen Bedr) on St. David's Day. According to one legend, King Cadwaladr of Gwynedd ordered his soldiers to identify themselves by wearing the vegetable on their helmets in an ancient battle against the Saxons that took place in a leek field.[1] Cheers! ‑ ‑ Gareth Griffith‑Jones The Welsh Buzzard ‑ ‑ 17:22, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for March 28
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited King's Road Chelsea railway station, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Chelsea (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:54, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
bla bla bla
Have you ever read Siddhartha? The reference cited is absolutely full of crap which brings the entire article into doubt. Siddhartha is NOT Gautama the Buddha, makes a point of that, and also is NOT "unhappy with his life until achieving enlightenment" or whatever the dumb line was. That citation is totally wrong and even stupid.
Sorry but I think keeping wikipedia on the straight and narrow fact-wise is constructive. And it was a talk page anyhow, not an edit to the article.
Some of you people should grow up. 116.231.75.71 (talk) 11:54, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

DYK for If Ye Love Me
On 12 June 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article If Ye Love Me, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the 1565 motet "If Ye Love Me" by Thomas Tallis was performed at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, If Ye Love Me), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Replaceable fair use File:Runrig-loch lomond.ogg
Thanks for uploading File:Runrig-loch lomond.ogg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 16:00, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:21, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Geoffrey Hayes.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:Geoffrey Hayes.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Thryduulf (talk) 10:20, 3 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi Cnbrb, I just took a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/CategoryDefunct banks of Scotland. For future reference, you can request speedy deletion of a page you created under WP:G7 (provided nobody else has made any major contributions to it). Thanks. Thine Antique Pen (talk) 14:31, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you - I was actually going to do a speedy delete. I tried using the Twinkle dropdown, but if only offered unsuitable categories which all related to notability and vandalism, so I went for the next best button which was AFD. I genuinely thought I was doing the right thing, but it's just caused trouble and earned me a rebuke, so I'll not bother next time. Cnbrb (talk) 14:37, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
- No harm done. Twinkle should show "G7: Author requests deletion, or author blanked"; otherwise, adding {{db-g7}} does the job. Thine Antique Pen (talk) 19:15, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
