I understand what you said. But that last comment about spelling was posted last night as well. I just went on a spelling kick, and only realised the english dialects after I was done for the night. Just wanted to make you aware... the cheat 15:35, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:AEBain.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 22:40, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Adikoilamaranailatikau.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Adikoilamaranailatikau.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:36, 6 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 23:36, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A user left this on my talk page regarding Chelsey..user:203.4.236.150 :

While I am aware that Rebecca Singh does have a sister named Chelsea, I have also noticed that the newsreader in question was credited on screen as "Chelsey" while Rebecca's sister spells her name "Chelsea"... after the place in England her mother is from. This is either a typo, or more likely a very common last name!.....

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Airpacific.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Airpacific.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Spelling

[edit]

Hi there! I see you have changed the spelling of "apologised" to "apologized."

I've changed it back. It's not a big deal to me, but a de facto policy of Wikipedia is that insofar as possible, articles pertaining to a particular country should be written in the dialect of that country (e.g., British English for England, American English for the United States, Indian English for India, etc.) Because of its colonial past, Fijian English is derived from British English, and favours British spellings.

-ISE versus -IZE: Historically, -ISE was the "standard" British spelling. In recent years, -IZE has gained currency in England - BUT not all former British colonies have followed suit, especially not Fiji. In many ways, Fijians are more British than the British themselves with respect to their use of English. I know one Fijian Wikipedian who feels strongly about this. Out of respect for people like him, I try to ensure that Fiji-related articles use what is considered correct spelling in their variety of English. David Cannon 11:23, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for letting me know. This is actually an important policy to me also, but I wasn't aware of this particular example of the alternate spelling. I'll try to be a little bit less overzealous in my spell-checking runs from now on. =P Thanks for the heads-up. -SocratesJedi | Talk 23:42, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vunivalu of Bau

[edit]

G'day David,

I've recently added a few new articles connected to Seru Epenisa Cakobau and his relatives(Tanoa Visawaqa, Litiana Maopa and Epeli Nailatikau I) , and some of the subsequent Vunivalu of Bau, and made a category for them. Could you please put that category in with the other Fijian nobility ones (ie. Tui Nayau etc.), I'm not quite sure how to do that.

Also.... Sorry for being such a keen newbie, but is it true all source material MUST BE ON THE NET??

God bless,

I have re-structered it changed parts of it around and I have cited most of my references bar a few, would it be possible to have your feed back on it so far, I will send it in a word format.

then I would need your critque of it so far and advice on what steps to take to re-instate it at a later stage if it that was prudent and possible course for me?

hoping for your advice and feedack

Bula again David

I just had an idea what do you think of this, what if we start an article on Fijian religion predating christianity and its lead up to christianity I have several reference books in this regard as well as weseleyan missionary journals well thats one.

the second is the structure of a yuvusa and tribes and ceremonies that bind Fijian culture, like the chief his herald the Yaqona and whales teeth and etc I have several reference material in this regard and the cross tribal relationships like Tauvu, Kaivata, Takolavo etc that exist in some form across all of Fiji.

it will be a wihile before I can start this as I got to sort out my current articles before I do so but I was wondering what you thoughts were on it?

well hoping for your feedback

You had mentioned you were looking for Opencycle...

[edit]

Opencycle is at http://opencycle.vacommunity.net. While Opencycle uses MediaWiki and has much of the same ends as Wikipedia (it, too, is a wiki-based open-content encyclopedia), it is by no means a fork or copy of Wikipedia--Opencycle is an entirely separate project. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.135.29.11 (talk) 00:08, 12 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I did not believe there was anything necessary to reply to in your post on my user page. You wished to make a point and that is OK. I routinely clean up my talk page of stuff I no longer feel I need. I also routinely nominate unsourced articles for deletion because they fail WP:V and that is the great thing about the AFD process. If I mistakingly nominate something or someone notable, it fails the process and the articles stays and I learn something. If I find an unsourced article about a United States Congressman that I cannot readily verify, I will nominate it for deletion also. Please be more careful about providing reliable third party sources when you create an article. -Regards Nv8200p talk 13:26, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL.

Fuzzy Zoeller edit controversy

[edit]

Hello, there. As you may or may not know, the Miami Herald recently revealed that professional golfer Fuzzy Zoeller has filed a lawsuit against Josef Silny & Associates, Inc. for adding false statements to his Wikipedia biography.

For data gathering purposes, an SRS of 20 administrators has been created, you being one of them. I would like you to comment on this situation and its possible implications to Wikipedia, the accused company, and the general welfare of the community in general. (To what extent will this impact Wikipedia? To what extent will this impact those who use Wikipedia often? To what extent is the company guilty? Who do you believe is at fault?) Feel free to comment however you wish. I ask that you email me your responses via my emailuser page so as to reduce bias in your responses. (Again, don't post your responses on my talk page.)

The following are articles from various news agencies that you may use to inform yourself about the situation: Miami Herald, Herald Tribune, Web Pro News, The Smoking Gun.

I thank you for taking your time to express your opinion. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at any time. Jaredtalk18:22, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Advise needed

[edit]

Hi David, I read the article Mozambican War of Independence, which was written by SGGH. I believe that it has the makings of an FA. I will nominate it for such on Friday, but before I do that, I want to consult with some of my good friends here who already have a featured article under there belts. That's why I would like you to look it over before I place it in nomination and if you have any advice to give User:SGGH, be my guest. Your friend Tony the Marine 01:22, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(P.S. Could you believe that you and I are among the 20 Wikipedians choosen for the above "Fuzzy Zoeller edit controversy" out of hundreds. What are the odds of this happening, two admins who are friends to be asked for their opinion?)

Thanks for uploading Image:Sarfati.jpg.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

point taken

[edit]

David on the Ratu Article as it goes into the Seru Cakobau part shouldn't both perpectives be noted? as you have told me to be Neutral shouldn't both views be shared, I have refernces to back up the points I have written, this is not an argument more just a query? I have not touched it again but I was just wondering?

also I provided references for the translation of Ratu and Adi, why were they removed I thought if anything that would help the article?

and why was my Newspaper reference removed it had relivance and refernce to what was discussed on the page, as the page itself has no reference material? I thought I was helping the article, I don't understand why my edits were removed and not considered further or at least met halfway? anyway I accept your judgement but I am not sure that I fully agree, but I am learning.

please do not take offense I am just sharing my thoughts but I accept your stance.

I'm sorry I may have misunderstood you, but wikipedia is about adding information from reliable, external verifiable sources and not on asking random citizens for their opinion. If you could provide me a source (scientific journals, academic books) that gives a different characterization of this party, I would easily be convinced. Now your argument is just hearsay. Constitution of Fiji

[edit]

Hi, I just wanted to point out that, a few years ago, you did a bunch of work on Constitution of Fiji, and specifically on the individual chapters of it. However, you completed chapters 1-11, and 17, and left 12-16 unfinished. They're still the original source documents, which don't belong on wikipedia at all of course. I hereby encourage you to finish the other 5 chapters. Otherwise, I'll probably just remove the source text from them and leave a one or two sentence stub for each of them. (I know nothing about Fiji, or its constitution, so I won't be writing the articles myself) --Xyzzyplugh 13:32, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm a member of the WikiProject Rugby Union Fiji Rugby Workgroup and have nominated Waisale Serevi as an FAC. David, I am a member of Wikipedia:WikiProject International relations and I would like to make this article share the same formatting as the other 121 Diplomatic Missions by Country articles. That is, list the missions by country, and then by continent. Extra details, such as heads of missions or the history of Fiji's diplomatic network, can go at the front. Details of the missions in Fiji should go in a separate article, as the name does not reflect this information (there is talk of a new category of articles listing missions in each country). Again as I said before, we are welcome to hearing new suggestions for this category, but would like the information to be consistent Kransky 11:51, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't matter how many articles you have written, contributions you have made or how many years you have dedicated to making this project a credible one. A hacker, it seems has the power of making people consider you an untrustful person and turning some people in the community against you.

I have never abused of my powers and I have used Wikipedia as a medium to educate others. Yes, I have no regrets about having made so many contributions to the Pedia. Little context in Joseph Browne

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Joseph Browne, by Maralia (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Joseph Browne is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Replaceable fair use Image:Suva.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Suva.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 20:12, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Suva.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Suva.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 20:12, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your advice

[edit]

Bula David, I need your feedback and I could be way off the mark but I think the various language articles relating to Fiji should be merged like the article East Fijian languages, West Fijian languages and related dialects of the Fijian Language I think should be merged with the Article Fijian Languages as really they discuss variations of the same topic and these other Language articles on the Fijian language are just small stubs and perhaps the Fijian language article should be changed to just "Language in Fiji" and cover all related languages in the Fiji Islands. your advice feedback and thoughts on this matter would be helpful I've also asked Xorkl000 the same question. Fair use disputed for Image:Silatolu.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Silatolu.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:29, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Soarescarneiro.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Soarescarneiro.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 13:52, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dove-Myer Robinson

[edit]

Hi. Fair enough to use the Encyclopaedica Judaica for the note that he was the fifth Jewish Mayor of Auckland. But can you please actually put that in the article as a reference (page number and all, seeing that its not an online ref)? Otherwise, the refs we have say 2nd, and thus contradict your change (people in a year or ten are not going to read your edit summary...). Ingolfson 09:55, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and contact me here if you are unsure on how to include a reference. Cheers. Ingolfson 09:57, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just to clarify - I've got no problem with assuming good faith and you are very likely right about the reference. I just feel that if something gets changed that contradicts other references, we should provide the reference because of which it was changed - otherwise, this discussion may be had again... and again.... So it would be good to have it. Maybe there's more material you can add as well, when you look this up. Cheers Ingolfson 12:01, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Compulsory unionism

[edit]

I vaguely remember getting this from the Barry Gustafson history of the National Party, but I'm not in NZ at present so I can't check. I totally agree that in practice compulsory unionism remained in force until the 1980s, but legally speaking, it was abolished by the 2nd National government. You've said that non-unionists could almost never be hired, but the fact that they could be hired, no matter how rarely, means that unionism was not compulsory in theory, even if in practice it still was 99% of the time. My last edit of the 2nd National govt page reflects this (I hope). If you haven't already, and have access to the info, you should certainly put something on the 3rd national govt page explaining how they liberalised union laws to make union membership optional in reality as well as in law. --Helenalex 12:41, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your Advice

[edit]

Bula David need you feed back yet again, there was an internal link on the ethnic groups section of the Fiji Article I removed it because it lead to an article on racial segregation which I felt was inappropriate, I don't feel racial segregation correctly describes Fiji's situation, also on the racial segregation article there was a section on Fiji which seemed very one sided I left this comment on the talk page:

The section on Fiji is very one sided and does not give the reader an overall picture further more it is unreferenced an unsourced and I believe should be re written, there is evidence of defacto separation but not segregation the Fiji section should be removed or as I said before rewritten as it is divisive and incorrectly written..Vinaka MB 04:31, 28 September 2007 (UTC) I have rewritten part of the Fiji section but I am still not certain that it even belongs on this page anyone ones thought on the subject would be helpful. Vinaka Maikeli MB 21:02, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

I also made a little edit to the article in the Fiji section to try and give a more balanced view but I still think it should be taken out of the article all together Fiji has some instances of racial difference or defacto separation but it also has evidence of unity to, take alook at the article and give your thoughts. Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Silatolu.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. Fair use rationale for Image:Siwatibau.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Siwatibau.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Thank you. Rettetast 18:57, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Kuinispeed.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.
