Welcome!
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:

  • Respect intellectual property rights - do not copy and paste text or images directly from other websites.
  • Maintain a neutral point of view when editing articles - this is possibly the most important Wikipedia policy.
  • If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
  • Do not add troublesome content to any article, such as: copyrighted text, advertising or promotional messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject. Adding such information or otherwise editing articles maliciously is considered vandalism, doing so will result your account being blocked from editing.

The Wikipedia Tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! You are requested to discuss the recent edits at the talk page, Talk:Cuisine of Assam before making further edits. Thanks. Chaipau (talk) 13:58, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your note on my talk page. Please read the objection on Talk:Cuisine of Assam, which states clearly the problems with your edits. If you need more clarifications, I shall provide them there. But let us continue the discussion at Talk:Cuisine of Assam and not on each others' talk pages. Thanks. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on CKB Commerce College, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because CKB Commerce College is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting CKB Commerce College, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Image copyright problem with Image:Bhupen Hazarika.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bhupen Hazarika.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Hi - a stub template or category which you created has been nominated for deletion or renaming at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub type, which was not proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, does not meet the standard requirements for a stub type, either through being incorrectly named, ambiguously scoped, or through failure to meet standards relating to the current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Please feel free to make any comments at WP:SFD regarding this stub type, and in future, please consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 22:40, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't try to pre-empt the discussion at WP:SFD by creating a second template at a correct name! The discussion is no far more complicated, since it has to encompass the new template as well! Grutness...wha? 23:36, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of List of Assamese films[edit]

An article that you have been involved in editing, List of Assamese films, has been listed for deletion. If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Assamese films. Thank you. Quality check 16:15, 9 December 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Quality check (talkcontribs)

Hello, I saw that your article was nominated for deletion. I wanted to let you know that you do not need to panic about what happens to the content. You can work on a potential article in your userspace; see Wikipedia:Userfication. Make sure that it meets Wikipedia's notability standards before moving your work to the mainspace (where the articles officially are). Let me know if you have any questions! —Erik (talkcontrib) 04:27, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Assamese films of xxxx[edit]

Hiya. You may want to slow down your creation of these pages. Some of them - such as those for 1961 and 1970 only have one link on them, and the link (if you click on it) is not actually a film. Please check the links are correct before submitting the page. Thanks. CultureDrone (talk) 10:38, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The deletion of film list[edit]

Hello Everyone! NAMASKAR!

I appreciate your decision of deleting the film list. Actually I was so engrossed making the list that I could not notice your warnings. Now I've been blocked. Thanks anyway.

But one thing still is sticking to my mind that making a complete list of Assamese films seemed useless for you. After having competed the list I was about to make the links. But before that I've been blocked. I'm made to think and accept that the Assamese film list is quite a rubbish for wikipedia.

Anyway thanks.

With regards (NAMASKAR)

(Footage (talk) 15:06, 10 December 2008 (UTC)).[reply]

New users often face the teeth of older editors... I might suggest allowing the maintenance tag to remain on your article as you work at developing it. Using the sandbox is also helpful. Also, request comments on your talk page, so you can engage with other editors. I'm going to help you out a bit, by adding a few tags that may allow you to build an article, which then can be discussed by the community on the basis of merit. --digitalmischief (talk) 13:36, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have unblocked you. The block was nothing to do with Assamese films per se; it wa because you continued to create huge numbers of articles, without repsonding to the series of messages voicing concern. As you are now ready to disucuss the issues I am delighted to remove the block. Pedro :  Chat  13:39, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. As one of the people desperately trying to get you to slow down earlier, can I add my modest comments (some of which have already been stated). No-one objects to your intent - the improvement of coverage of Assamese film within Wikipedia. The objections were to do with the way you were doing it. Although there are numerous pages devoted to 'Bollywood' films, you can't necessarily therefore infer that you can create the same sort of structure for every genre/subtype of film. What you ended up doing was creating dozens of pages with links to articles that either didn't exist, or which didn't link to the correct article. What I'd suggest you do is start out on the Assamese cinema article (where I see you've already made some edits), and think about creating articles for the films first. Once articles are in place, then is the time to think about whether subdividing them or creating list pages is appropriate. However, remember to read WP:NF first - articles about films still have to be considered notable, so you should bear that in mind when deciding which film articles to create and what to put in them. Cheers. :-) CultureDrone (talk) 14:08, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Thanks a lot Pedro! Don't misunderstand or take me otherwise.

And CultureDrone, thanks to you too. You've given me the answer of that very question that I was about to ask. Now I understand that first I should complete making an article and then categories it.

I'll always look for your kind cooperation and guidance everytime.

To CultureDrone[edit]

I'm talking about the "List of Assamese films". I mean to say that a few articles are there either in details (for example Joymoti) or as stub (for example Adajya). They are already existed. Can I put them in the list that I created? I was just waiting for your suggestions.

(Footage (talk) 16:12, 10 December 2008 (UTC)).[reply]

I'm a little confused, as the List of Assamese films article, as far as I can see it, doesn't currently specifically name any films - it's currently just a set of redlinks to your deleted 'Assamese films of xxxx' articles.....however, you should bear in mind two things -
  • That article has been proposed for deletion, so may disappear unexpectedly (regardless of the under construction tag) - not good if you're part way through changing it !
  • There is already a list of Assamese films here:Assamese cinema#Assamese films
I'd suggest you do one of two things:
  • If you look at the list in the Assamese cinema article, you can see that there aren't that may articles on Assamese films currently on Wikipedia (I count about nineteen bluelinks). Why not write some articles about notable films in the list that don't currently have articles ?
  • Move the list in the Assamese cinema article to your list page (remembering to put a link on the page), organise the list by year, then start adding articles.
Personally, I'd go for the first option at the moment, as this will firstly improve the number of films covered, and secondly will avoid any problems with the current proposed delete of the list article. if you're dead set on adding to your list article, I'd suggest you add a comment here:Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Assamese films, where the debate is taking place.
But, I'll say it again - please remember the notability guidelines (WP:NF) - I'd hate it for you to spend ages creating articles about Assamese films, only to see them possibly deleted because they're not considered notable.
By the way, it'll be easier for me to know you've said something to me if you click on the 'talk' link after my username - that will take you to my user talk page, and I'll be notified if you add anything. Otherwise, I have to keep looking here to see if you've said anything :-) CultureDrone (talk) 16:28, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Survey / new article[edit]

Ahh..then you have a problem. Basically, Wikipedia is not intended as a publication medium for new research - in fact, the concept of no original research is one of the three core content policies that Wikipedia has. You can read the relevant policy here: WP:OR. In summary, unless something has been published in some reputable form that allows references and/or sources to be provided, then it's highly unlikely that such an article would avoid deletion (see the policy on verifiability: WP:V). If the work you're referring to could be published elsewhere in some suitable journal, newspaper, magazine etc. first, then it's possible it could be included, but for original work you've done yourself which hasn't been published......no, I'm surprised all that's been asked for is references and sources. Sorry if this all sounds a bit negative, but I don't make the policies.

Incidentally, the Machal Lalung article is interesting, but the tone is wrong (as noted) - remember, Wikipedia articles are supposed to be concise, factual and neutral - that particular article has a lot of speculation, unreferenced information etc. For instance, What was more appalling is that Mossol was not given even the minimum facilities of legal action. - ok, you've made a statement there, but you haven't provided any references to prove that was the case and not something that you just made up - in addition, that statement could almost be considered libel. To put it another way, I could write an article stating that "The third moon of Jupiter is populated by green mice who eat nothing but space dust and potatoes", but simply because I've put it in an article doesn't make it true, and it would certainly be deleted.

The same also applies to the Sri Lohit High School article. For instance, phrases such as The students admitted to the school must abide by all the rules and regulations of the school. , and The students have to be punctual enough to report to the school always on time. - well, that's generally the same for every school in the world. The farewell of the 10th Standard students is one remarkable and of course the most memorable occasion celebrated in the school every year. - remarkable how exactly ? It sounds like something you've personally experienced and, whilst I appreciate you want to write about it, you need to avoid using emotive terms - if you say something is 'remarkable' or 'memorable', you need to provide proof - just because you think something is remarkable doesn't make it a fact. I'd have a think about those articles if I were you and see if you can't improve them.

As you probably gather by now, writing an article for Wikipedia is easy, but writing a good article can be very hard ! There are a lot of policies to try and follow. I don't know if you've read it, but this: Wikipedia:Your first article is a good article to read - it tells you the basics you need to know.

Feel free to drop me another message if you need any more help :-) CultureDrone (talk) 22:40, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming[edit]

Hi. I'm not sure what you mean - there isn't such a thing (as far as I know). If you mean you think an article has been titled incorrectly and you want to change it, the easiest thing to do is use the 'move' tab at the top of the page (next to the 'history' tab). This effectively moves the article to a page with the new name you specify, and leaves a redirect on the old name pointing to the new article. There's more information if you click here. Image removed from Chitraban Film Studio article[edit]

Hi. I'm assuming you want to know why the image was removed from that particular article, when it already exists in another Wikipedia article. The simple answer is - I have no idea ! I've asked the author of the bot that actually deleted it to explain why it happened and if/when they tell me, I'll let you know. Cheers. CultureDrone (talk) 09:47, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good news - I think. It seems that the image was originally classed as non-free - apparently copyrighted and not in the public domain. In these circumstances, each article that uses the image has to provide a reason as to why that image should be used, and you hadn't done this when you added the image to the article, which was why it was removed. However, by questioning what was going on, I seem to have prompted some investigation of the photo and, because of copyright laws in India, it seems that the image IS in fact public domain and can therefore be used freely. Assuming that there aren't going to be any other problems with the use of the image, I've put it back in the article (though I've moved it to the right hand side as I think it looks better and doesn't interfere with the contents box). If you have any other problems with it, let me know. Happy Bhogali Bihu to you too :-) CultureDrone (talk) 13:12, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mossol Lalung[edit]

I'll certainly have a look and see what I can do - it might not be for a few days though. I've had a quick look and it's definately in need of more references - you only seem to have one cited, it's not in English and therefore not usable by the majority of English Wikipedia users, and the link you've given doesn't actually link to any article relevant to what you've written - it just goes to the magazine's home page. Can you try and dig up some more sources / references for the article ?

As an aside, I've tagged your Sri Lohit High School article for style concerns. There's a fair amount in the article which doesn't seem appropriate for an encyclopedic article - e.g. The students hold high esteem for their teachers regardless of in the school campus or outside. - that's a personal opinion, which you haven't backed up with any sources or references (actually, there are no references provided at all for that article). Although the school no doubt exists, you're currently violating a key policy - that of verifiability. CultureDrone (talk) 13:30, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Freedomattheedge.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Freedomattheedge.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:08, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A Sandbox....[edit]

I sympathyze with you and your being new to Wiki. This place can be dredfully confusing. Having article disappear as you are creating them can be frustrating. HOWEVER. New users are encouraged to work in a "sandbox" or "userspace". For instance, any page you create whose title begins with "User:Footage" is a wrokspace for you and you alone. You may ctreate articles in that space and do all the expansion and sourcing you wish without someone suggesting it get deleted. You can then ask for input and advice from other editors before moving it to main wiki pages. These following "redlinks" are exapmples of pages that can be created by you for your own works to be built: User:Footage/sandbox 001, or User:Footage/sandbox 002, or User:Footage/sandbox 03, or User:Footage/sandbox 004 or User:Footage/my first article or User:Footage/my second article or User:Footage/my third article... etc. Clicking on any of these redlinks will take you to a page where you may create. Once content is on those pages, the links turn blue. So go. Enjoy. Create away... and feel free to ask for advice from anyone. Being blocked because you are not familiar with the rules can be frustrating... but I admire that you keep trying. Use the sandboxes. And keep creating. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 10:49, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. Its obvious after checking that you are far from new. My apolgies. However, I still think a sandbox is a great place to develop an article full of redlinks in oder to preent it deletion before it is ready. Best, !!!! Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 10:53, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mossol Lalung[edit]

Hi. I've done a revamp of this article - but you may not like the result!

Your original article had a whole load of (apparently) unverified and unreferenced statements - such as being arrested in 1945, epilepsy caused by falling from a tree, the money awarded by the Indian government on his release etc. - I've removed almost all of these - the bits remaining (apart from those about his family which need extra references), are supported by the references you supplied. It may be that the Bismoi magazine article was the reference for all the bits I've removed, but since I can't get a copy of the article in question, I can't verify the claims made, which sort of violates WP:V - though non-English language references are always tricky. Have a read through the article as it stands now, and we can discuss any issues you have with my changes. CultureDrone (talk) 14:59, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you're happy with the revamp :-) As regards the three points you'd like put back, there's a bit of a problem - verifiability. Neither the BBC nor countercurrents references mention any of these points, and I can't access either of the Bismoi articles (considering they're probably in Assamese, I probably wouldn't be able to read them anyway !). Where did you get these items of information from ?
Regarding your time setting, I'm a little unsure what you want to do - there are only two things you can change - the timezone offset from GMT, which you set at the bottom of the screen by selecting the correct offset for your location from the list - I'm guessing Asia/Calcutta would be about right, and the way the date/time is displayed, which you choose from the list of five options at the top of the screen. What problems are you having ? CultureDrone (talk) 08:34, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I've also just tweaked the Freedom at the Edge article to add a couple of references for verifiability, and details of the award it won for notability. I also renamed the 'trivia' section as Wikipedia generally discourages trivia. CultureDrone (talk) 10:16, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you seem to be conversant on Assamese films. Can you please update this article with some info and references? It needs some such thing to survive Afd. Thanks. --GDibyendu (talk) 18:43, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Another thing. I don't know whether you can write Assamese and whether you have a software to write in it or not. In case both are true, please spend some time on adding names in Assamese script for cities and towns, biography of people originating from Assam, Assamese movies etc. Now, very few of these articles have names in Assamese script. I can't write, but can read due to similarity with Bengali script :) --GDibyendu (talk) 10:21, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not mine. I just came across it.--GDibyendu (talk) 10:21, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bird paintings[edit]

Came across File:Syrmaticushumiae.jpg, File:Ithaginiscruentus.jpg and File:Accipitergentilis.jpg all tagged as "I, the copyright holder of this work..." and released under GFDL/CC license. However I believe at least the first one is actualy from the book "Gamebirds of India, Burmah, Ceylon" by Hume and Marshall, 1880. Wich is actualy in the public domain. Please update those images pages with the actual source for each image and update the license template accordingly since the current license info is obviously incorrect (if they are all from the same book I belive {{PD-old-70}}{{PD-US}}) would be the most accurate combination). Thanks. --Sherool (talk) 23:33, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, actualy I didn't realise that all of them where already at Commons. I've deleted your versions of the images since only the Commons versions of the images are in use now after your changes. Thanks. --Sherool (talk) 15:40, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Re the Bismoi article, it's nice of you to offer to send me the PDF, but as you say yourself, since it's in Assamese, I probably wouldn't get much out of it. However, if you want to use the article to back up any statements in the article, I suggest you make sure you read this first: WP:Verifiability#Non-English_sources - basically, you can translate it yourself and use it, provided you include the original text as a footnote/reference. I'd also be careful about using any photographs or images from it, unless the images are public domain or Bismoi are prepared to give you permission to use the images within Wikipedia. You have been blocked from editing for a period of 2 weeks in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for copyright infringement. You have been warned multiple times that placing copyrighted material on Wikipedia is against our policies. You have even been blocked for persistently violating Wikipedia's copyright policies after having been warned, in January of this year: [1]. Your removal of these notices indicates you have read and understood them. Yet you have persisted, as recently as today pasting material onto Wikipedia that is previously published here, as confirmed by internet archives. If you do not understand our copyright policies, it is your responsibility to seek clarification. Given your extensive history of violations, clear warnings and previous blocking, I have blocked you for two weeks. If you continue placing images or text on Wikipedia from copyrighted sources following your return, your block may be extended, perhaps indefinitely. You are welcome to make useful contributions after the block expires. If you believe this block is unjustified you may contest this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below. From your unblock request below, I'd say that you don't seem to understand that it doesn't matter if you copied text from a book or from the tagged website. Whether the copyright belongs to the website or to a source from which you both have copied, the fact that the same text has been published at another location prior to being published here simply proves that it didn't originate here. It must originate here, unless it is public domain or compatibly licensed with the GFDL. The book you indicate you are using was published in 1972 and is not public domain. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 10:45, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Request 1) I prepared "Marriage in Assam", "Assamese Marriage", "Saklang" with the help of the book "Folklore of Assam" by Jogesh Das. I have the book with me. I don't know about other links since while preparing the articles I didn't search them in search engines. Request 2) It’s been 1 year, 5 months and 14 days of mine in wikipedia. During this period I’ve been able to make some useful contribution to it. Still I regard myself as a newcomer. Wikipedia is not a game for me but my passion. The publication of the book, which I took as my source, goes back to 1972. I created those particular articles yesterday and the day before yesterday and at that moment I hadn’t received any message regarding copyright violation. Had I received it right then, I would’ve given you clarification.

You might have got lots of links in the search engines. But if somebody else is using the same book as source of his article (I’ve already mentioned that the publication of the book, which I took as my source, goes back to 1972.), is it my fault?

Now I’m feeling like a criminal.

Decline reason:

Note that both requests were considered together: As you've been blocked for this same reasoning two other times. Please use this time to thoroughly consider the copyright policy so that when the block ends you can contribute constructively. Thanks -- Nja247 07:29, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Block evasion[edit]

I have reset your two-week block in accordance with Wikipedia:Block#Evasion of blocks because you have clearly been editing with an IP, [2]. The two weeks now runs from today. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:03, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since I have some concerns based on the pattern of edits you made from that IP account, I have requested input on handling of this at the administrator's noticeboard, here. If you have any comments and place them here, in light of the fact that you are blocked I'll make sure that they are duly noted at the noticeboard. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:49, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And per several instances where images you uploaded were also in violation of our policies, you are blocked indefinitely. Blueboy96 22:02, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

APPEAL TO YOU Reg: [BRAHMAN PUJAN] , [UNIVERSAL PRAYERS] . written by [Naresh Sonee] On wikipedia , These above two pages are far older than the present article [Brahman] References of above titles are also available on New York site - http://www.printsasia.com/BookDetails.aspx?Id=445813482 Meanwhile, Can your good selves in Wiki Project Indian Community re-create a precise pages on [Naresh Sonee] & his book [Brahmand Pujan] – [Brahmaand Pujan] . However, Sonee is the writer of this book [Brahmand Pujan] written in 1999 . registered with Government of India- HRRD. Details of the registration is provided here on http://brhmaandpujanbook.tripod.com/ . More than sufficient, news and reviews are there on http://brhmaandpujan-news-reviews.tripod.com/ Since 5-6 yrs, for one or the other reason pages of [Naresh Sonee] & [Brahmand Pujan] are faced by communal bias from outside India so these articles over and again get deleted here in Wikipedia for minor reasons. However, many hits of - Naresh Sonee reflects on google search engine also. So, I request Wiki Indian community to kindly come forward and generously help these two pages to grow, as I am fed up to fight my case alone here [left] and moved out long back. Meanwhile, such an important info/issue on ‘Indian literature’ which adds & spell ‘new meaning /dimension’ to Brahman -should it stay lost else ignored? Your community panel has to judge at last. Myself, will not be on Wikipedia, for the same i apologise, but- pls. help these two pages to get reinstalled, reap, sow and grow, if you too feel so, I appeal to do this munificent favour. WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest[edit]

Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.

As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.

If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.

You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.
