Admin suggestion

Administrators don't really have mandatory task lists; many use the tools only as a supplement to their other responsibilities. Having block/delete/rollback tools can really come in handy against vandals, spammers, and bad-faith users. — Deckiller 23:06, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Stenemo looking for adoption

Hi, I am a newbie with some experience and allot of motivation to learn how to edit wikipedia. I am doing a project about Calorie restriction (CR) as a part of my bachelor's degree, and I am going to spend some of my time editing. The project is due in July, but I am going to edit throughout the spring on CR and related topics. Hopefully I will be able to learn most things by myself, but I know that learning goes much faster with some help :) Stenemo (talk) 17:16, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Do you recommend any programs for me to start using when editing wikipedia? All general tips are also welcome. I'm reading the ones you have on your page currently.Stenemo (talk) 20:41, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
That was just what I was looking for, now I have somewhere to start looking for good programs. Stenemo (talk) 20:41, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Old templates

Would you mind if I used the content from User:Guyinblack25/Infobox Kamen Riders, User:Guyinblack25/Infobox Kamen Riders/Header, User:Guyinblack25/Infobox Kamen Riders/Extra form, and User:Guyinblack25/Infobox Kamen Riders/Footer for a new template?—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 19:19, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Robotron: 2084 GAC

I will be reviewing Robotron: 2084 for GA. It clearly meets criteria 3 through 6. I will comb through the content to see if it meets 1 and 2, but it may take some time since the article is large. I will list anything that needs to be corrected at the GA review page at Talk:Robotron: 2084/GA1. MuZemike 21:58, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

I have placed it on hold to address two small issues that I saw with the prose. I should have informed you yesterday, but I don't think it's a big deal since these are relatively minor. MuZemike 21:58, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

File:MarbleMadnessCabinet.png listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, File:MarbleMadnessCabinet.png, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. fighting game

I can't thank you enough for your peer review of the fighting game article. It's pretty dense. I just wanted to make sure you had nothing else to add though, because you mentioned that you wanted to give it a quick sweep over the weekend.

Also, I just want to be sure that the level of detail is fine. That was a real concern of mine. Of all the genre articles, it's by far the longest history so far. But at the same time, it's also one of the oldest, most popular, and longest-standing genres. So a long history may be unavoidable. What did you think? Randomran (talk) 18:17, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks a lot. Just drop one last comment into the peer review whenever you feel you're done. Then I'll close it and archive it. Randomran (talk) 19:43, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Hey just wanted to thank you again for your outstanding review of "fighting game". For the record, it's currently B-class. I'm tempted to just skip ahead and nominate it for FA, to save on time. But just wanted to know if you thought I should err on the safe side, and nominate it for GA class. (I won't hold it against you if you say go for it, and it fails FA. Just looking for an honest opinion.) Randomran (talk) 03:42, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Makes sense. I'll play it safe, because that's sound advice. Oh, and thanks again for adopting those statistics. I think they'll prove quite valuable in the long run. Randomran (talk) 15:56, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Non-free photos of non-free 3D works

I don't think there is any centralized discussion of these sorts of cases. I've just had to look through the dozens of cases as they come up, and then of course I don't know exactly which cases apply until I dig through the WP:FFD archives. A long time ago I tried keeping track of these things at User:Quadell/ifd precedents, but it was too much work and I gave up. This would be good to have a centralized discussion about. Perhaps a policy RFC? Be sure to let Wikipedia:WikiProject Images and Media know, and perhaps Wikipedia:WikiProject Copyright Cleanup too. (There are other types of cases that could use centralized discussions as well.) All the best, – Quadell (talk) 17:47, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

guideline discussion

I'm contacting a few people who took an interest in the video games WikiProject guidelines last year, to let them know of a project I'm working on. It's strictly in the interest of collecting information, but I think that information could prove useful for refining our guidelines and policies.

Please check in at this discussion, if you find a moment. Thanks in advance, Randomran (talk) 19:17, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for being such a huge help. Protonk is standardizing some of the headings. Hopefully we can start discussing what to make of it in the next week or so. Randomran (talk) 16:55, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

About the in literature bit

Just to explain it I guess and see what you think afterwards, the reason I described that subsection for Nemesis as such was because of the Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers (Halloween) articles naming it as such. I'm on the fence either way regarding the current version, so like I said just seeing what your thoughts on either title are in light of this.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 21:29, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Re:My French Coach and My Spanish Coach

Nah, it's okay. FAC was a bit of a longshot in the beginning for a rather marginal game. Thanks for the offer though. Cheers, — sephiroth bcr (converse) 19:58, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Stenemo adoption

Hi, I have no problems, except for finding time to edit, thanks for checking in :). Am planing to wait with editing and read up on CR more, and then rewrite most of the article. Doing it in small steps seems like allot of work compared to starting from scratch. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stenemo (talkcontribs) 20:20, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

I never did question the that it met WP:V. The manual is enough to meet WP:V standads. As for the others, the reason I question it is because of what WP:SPS says "However, caution should be exercised when using such sources: if the information in question is really worth reporting, someone else is likely to have done so." Thus, if its really worth having an entire article on, shouldn't it have been covers in a more mainstream press? Maybe not, but it is debatable. Anyway, I said other than cleanup I am going to table the discussion for the moment.じんない 19:28, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Yea as of now I will table the discussion, except for cleanup of those unreliable and clarification of the reliablity of the questionable source. I'm also asking at WT:V about whether relying solely on SPS and primary sources is enough to justify a seperate article for one that could theoretically be merged. If the answer is yes, then there is no problem.じんない 20:56, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

RFC for Template:Dedicated video game consoles

Filed an RFC over at the video games project page, but wanted to write you directly as well to get your neutral input here. I'd like to get a more concrete consensus on the purpose of this template, as there appears to be ongoing issues as to people wanting to continuously turn it in to a giant list of consoles. Current consensus established via the talk page is that the template is for consoles that are notable for representing their generation. I.E. are notable for being the main competitors/representatives/icons of that generation - such as Wii/Xbox360/PS3 for the current generation. A listing of all consoles already exists via a link at the top of the template, which goes to List of video game consoles. Some people have wanted to add consoles to the list simply because they exist/existed, others because they may be notable for other reasons (such as one person wanting the Amiga CD-32 claiming its the "first" 32 bit console and should therefore be included). Perhaps the template needs a name change as well, which was suggested during one of the recent discussions as well. Input would be appreciated, as I'm getting tired of being one of several main enforcers of this consensus, and don't want to border on WP:ownership. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 06:41, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

WikiProject Video Games

Hi there, I'd like to become involved with Wikiproject Video games, and I noticed a discussion on the talk page. My questions are: do you want new people to help with the newsletter, etc? And do is it going to be monthly or quarterly? If monthly, it should be distributed today and I updated for the month. If quarterly, my apologies, and feel free to revert my edits to the draft. Please reply on my talk page. Thanks, MacMedtalkstalk 01:14, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

GA Review for Q*bert

Hi. I'm reviewing Q*bert for GA. My review will be up in at most seven days (but probably is less than three). I'm watching the page, so any concerns, questions, etc. can be placed either on the review page or my talk page. Cheers. Mm40 (talk) 02:42, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

I've posted a few comments there. I'm unsure as to the schedule at which 'll review the article, I highly recommend you watch the page so I don't have to spam your talk page every time I post a comment. Mm40 (talk) 11:00, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Posted my final comments, and I'll pass the article after they are fixed. Mm40 (talk) 21:55, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm passing the article. If you have any criticism on the review, please tell me. Mm40 (talk) 01:36, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Would appreciate your neutral commentary at that page regarding a matter of a screnshot gallery some fans keep wanting to add. Figured this could use some explanation from a GA/FAC perspective as well. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 13:53, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Newsletter interview

Thanks for the offer. I'd rather not, and I would think there are other editors that would be better to interview that contribute to improving actual articles, rather than just the simple background stuff that I do, but if no one else will, I can. MrKIA11 (talk) 14:06, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Yeah. I'd be open to it. I've been really busy lately (as you can see with my lack of updating WP:VG/N), but sometime in the future would be fine. MrKIA11 (talk) 14:49, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

I'd be willing to interview for that, per your inquiry. --MASEM (t) 15:32, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Ok, I have finished my responses (last few days have been blech here); I may look at them again within the next few hours but assume for all purposes that the interview is ready to do. --MASEM (t) 20:21, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Re: Fighting game

A citation for the game having the first create-a-fighter feature might be nice. We had to remove the mention of it from the article because we couldn't verify it. At the moment we just have Fighter Maker mentioned as "one of the first" to have such a feature. bridies (talk) 17:41, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

I added the info to the article. Thanks! bridies (talk) 16:59, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

If you believe that I got out of hand on the talk page, then I apologize. But do you at least understand what I was trying to communicate to the anon? It's annoying to be treated like a troll when I'm advocating caution, but as long as the caution was indeed communicated, I did my job.Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 04:09, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Re: Desert Strike

It's probably better to source the gameplay section from reviews, which will be easy enough, but any development info would be really helpful as I'm struggling with that. All the development stuff I have is regarding the Amiga conversion and what they added in, so I don't really have anything about the original development. bridies (talk) 04:58, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

I've moved the article to the main space now, though it still needs work. bridies (talk) 06:25, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
OK, great. Does the Retro Gamer article have any mention of the sequels? Info on them (apart from Jungle Strike) is scarce, especially for Urban Strike, and they should have a general mention in the article. I'm going to expand the reception section with some more info on re-releases. Release dates and all the various ports should probably get a mention too. bridies (talk) 17:02, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
I guess just a brief general summary. bridies (talk) 18:11, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
OK, I finished up the reception section and nominated it for GA. I could probably add more to the sequels section but I'm not sure it's necessary. bridies (talk) 18:44, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

This is currently on the main page as a DYK :P bridies (talk) 16:45, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

I think I will pull together a Jungle Strike article at some point, maybe after working on a few other things. BTW, all the reviews came from the "Amiga Magazine Rack" website, which is a really good (if probably not legal) resource for anything multi-format. bridies (talk) 15:25, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Tetris (arcade) and Tetris: The Soviet Mind Game

Do you know what the exact correlation between these two are? I thought at first the latter was a port of the former, but according to Ed Logg he programmed the game from scratch...yet he's listed amongst the credits for the arcade game's development, and Gamasutra describes it as a port.

Any ideas? KLOV didn't mention much of anything regarding a relation between the two.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 16:29, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Your opinion is requested

Hello, Guyinblack25. I have recently been involved with matters involving a problematic editor who uses sockpuppet accounts. He has formerly used the name Dr90s, and I have noticed that you were involved with matters concerning him back in June 2008. Since then he has returned again and again to his old haunts, and has created huge disruption at the articles he has targeted. Unfortunately, apart from getting his new sockpuppet accounts banned again and again through WP:SPI, I have had had little success preventing his disruption. Recently I have filed a comprehensive report at AN/I asking for guidance in the matter and requesting new ideas for ways to control or contain this problem. One admin, User:Tanthalas39, has agreed to be the go-to admin for problems concerning Dr90s and his sockpuppets. However, this solution is contingent upon agreement from both admins and non-admins. I have struggled with the idea of contacting people directly on the issue because I take WP:CANVAS seriously and I wish to avoid any appearance of impropriety. Nevertheless, I believe I cannot be accused of votestacking in this matter because the issue is what can be done to stop a disruptive and repeatedly-blocked sockpuppet master. As such there is no reasonable non-partisan position that would support the abandonment of the whole matter. The problem has already been identified and acknowledged, and all that remains is to decide the best course of action from this point forward. As an editor who has some familiarity with this puppetmaster, I believe your comments would be well-received, and I would greatly appreciate it if you could leave a brief comment either in support or in dissent of the current solutions in discussion at WP:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#A campaign of systematic vandalism (User:Dr90s and puppets). Thanks so much for any help you can provide. -Thibbs (talk) 14:32, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Could use your neutral input again, this time over at the Battlezone II article. It's had ongoing issues with fans/community people wanting to turn it in to a community site article. Quick "Game Over" question

Hello again Guyinblack25. I know you have "Game Over", so could you please respond to this? Thanks. -sesuPRIME 11:30, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Looks like mine's the same then. I figured they were different thanks to the different titles and what google books had said during my search regarding the page numbers but it would seem I was mistaken, the printings would appear identical.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 14:11, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

WP:VG/RL misc publishers list suggestion

Just a quick one, what do you think about sorting the books by year? Might make it easier for anyone looking for something that might be covered in a book that'd need to have been made after a certain point compared to prior (and helps when people have different printings of the same book like you and I do with Game Over).--Kung Fu Man (talk) 02:45, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

FL format

At my FLC for List of Donkey Kong games, an editor suggested that the format of the list might be best changed due to high amount of notes. I'm kind of wary about changing the format because, well, almost every other video game FL uses the tables. I'd appreciate your two cents on it because you're one of the editors who churns out these lists like a factory. :P -- Nomader (Talk) 16:56, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Need your neutral input again, since for some silly reason I'm being accused of WP:COI because I did some contract work for the current Atari once. A Plato fan who revived a 3 year old thread claiming Battlezone came from an earlier Plato game, is claiming it does based on looks and a Gamasutra article where the author makes a statement "Panther and Panzer would prove to be the inspiration for a game that would mark the appearance of polygon-based 3D graphics in both the arcade and the home: Atari’s Battlezone. " However, the statement is both unsourced and unreferenced, appearing to be the author's opinion. In counter, there is the article in Retro Gamer 59 (January 2009) on the making of Battlezone where Ed Rotberg, the creator of the game, is directly quoted as stating "The inspiration came from those early overhead-view tank games, which everyone loved." I.E. Atari's previous Tank and Tank II. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 19:18, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
