Marcos on OTD
Hi, I was wondering why you decided to remove Ferdinand Marcos from the Dec 30 OTD? I realize the article is in poor shape, but it seems that First term of the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos could be featured instead. Thanks. —howcheng {chat} 04:02, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- This has nothing to do with the article being tagged for something. On December 30, contemporary Filipinos in the Philippines don't associate Marcos being inaugurated with the December 30 date. December 30 was for the longest time inauguration day. Marcos wasn't the only Philippine president inaugurated on that day, so it has to be extra special to be considered. If anything, Ramon Magsaysay's 1953 inauguration where 3-500,000 showed up (a great number at that time) is the most remarkable among the December 30 inaugurations, while Marcos's February 25, 1986 inauguration was his most "historical" one. Howard the Duck (talk) 06:05, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- (I've also posted about this on tyhe the talk page of December 30 several years ago but apparently WP:OTD don't give a shit. Howard the Duck (talk) 06:50, 2 January 2021 (UTC))
- Talk:December 30 is not the same as WT:Selected anniversaries/December 30, so I certainly wouldn't have seen it. Anyway, as I'm sure you saw, I've reinstated it but changed the focus to the first term article. Thanks. —howcheng {chat} 08:05, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- LOL nope. Marcos being inaugurated on December 30, 1965 is of no significance to Filipinos in 2021... or maybe in 1965, maybe people thought of it as some other inauguration at that time. Howard the Duck (talk) 08:11, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- The question isn't if the anniversary is significant to Filipinos, it's if the anniversary significant to the subject of the boldfaced article itself, which is now First term of the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos, so that date is in fact extremely significant because it was the start date. Does that make sense? BTW, what do you mean about the February 25, 1986 inauguration? Isn't that the date he was exiled? —howcheng {chat} 01:47, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Marcos was inaugurated before fleeing the country. That's his most significant inauguration. The first inauguration article is a microstub; that should be the target article, and it's cheating to use any other article instead of that. So what if it's the start date? There were 16 presidents of the Philippines, and all of them were inaugurated, some even twice (Marcos being the one of the only two that was inaugurated after winning two presidential elections); I'd argue his inauguration four years later in 1969 as more significant as this set the stage up for his strongman rule. Howard the Duck (talk) 04:08, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- January 20 is a significant date for Americans, why is it only Obama's inauguration is there? I'd imagine 30 first time U.S. inaugurations were more significant than Marcos's 1965 inauguration, and I'd also imagine other inaugurations from other countries fit the bill? Why this? We don't even do inaugurations. I've removed this from the December 30 article, so why is that even here? Are we going to add the 7 other Philippine presidential inaugurations in December 30? How about June 30, as there had been 5 presidents inaugurated on that day too? Are we going to add the Super Bowl on February dates (there\s a notice not to add those LOL). Howard the Duck (talk) 04:14, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- People remember many dates during the Marcos presidency. August 21, September 23, February 25, but not December 30. Inaugurations are not of moderate to great historical significance, more so relative to the other historical events that occurred on the same day of the year; it may be important enough to be included in the selected article, but I'd argue it's not the most, or one of the most, important events associated with that article. Howard the Duck (talk) 04:20, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Obama is obviously listed because he's the first African American president. BTW you are not entirely correct about presidential inaugurations. Pratibha Patil shows up on Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/July 25, which is the standard date for Indian presidents, and she is the only one of them to be listed, as being the first female president makes her notable. Look, all I'm trying to do is counter systemic bias by including more non-US/UK articles, so please help me out here. —howcheng {chat} 23:42, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Yeah I only searched om January 20 since that's the only other inauguration day I knoe (YAY to US bias!) December 30 already had a Philippine-related OTD. We can keep the quality om that one and not look for another one on the same day (you guys won't allow 2 Philippine-related OTDs). If you guys want a Presidential inauguration on December 30, there are other options. If we're going with the first, Manuel L. Quezon's 1941 inauguration in the midst of WWII is apt. If you guys want something historic, Ramon Magsaysay's 1953 inauguration is it. If you want Marcos-related, there are 365 other days of the year, you guys can find one. DYK for Judiciary of the Philippines
On 10 January 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Judiciary of the Philippines, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the judiciary of the Philippines has recognized the legal standing of dolphins? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Judiciary of the Philippines. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Judiciary of the Philippines), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hello Howard the Duck, about navboxes again, I hope you don't mind. I was wondering if we could reorganize these similarly looking templates for elections and referendums in the Philippines: {{Philippine elections}} and {{Philippine local elections}})? Maybe we could make them resemble this US counterpart template: {{United States elections}}? I know that this might be a drastic change, so I need your opinion about this. Thanks! —hueman1 (talk • contributions) 10:39, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
- It's the US elections that are different from all others. The Philippine election templates all use the similar format seen in {{French elections}}, {{Mexican elections}} and {{Singaporean elections}}. Howard the Duck (talk) 14:14, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Howard the Duck: Is that so? Good thing I haven't done anything yet. Thank you and sorry for bothering. —hueman1 (talk • contributions) 14:35, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

DYK for National Socialist Party (Philippines)
On 19 March 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article National Socialist Party (Philippines), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. 500th anniversary of the First Mass in the Philippines
Hi, Howard. The 500th anniversary is coming up soon. (Next week!) The article is not really eligible yet, as it needs more references. I have added it to the SA/OTD template, anyway. Please add more fotnotes and refs if you're interested in getting this on MainPage. Thanks. Happy editing. Cheers! PFHLai (talk) 11:00, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- PFHLai I have cleaned up the article. Please take a look. We've let a few of the events from the 500th anniversary of Ferdinand's voyage (arrival in the Phiiippines, first encounters with natives) off OTD, favoring boring inaugurations of another Ferdinand. Howard the Duck (talk) 17:39, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you, Howard, for working on the article. I have moved the blurb on the SA/OTD template for it to appear on MainPage on March 31st. Please monitor WP:ERRORS in case someone found more things to fix. Thanks, again. Happy anniversary! --PFHLai (talk) 02:18, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Pacquiao's party
I noticed on the page and the relevant template, the Manny Pacquiao's party is listed as PROMDI. While he filed his presidential bid under PROMDI. He and his faction within PDP-Laban still consider him as a member of PDP-Laban and he ran under PDP-Laban in the past Senate elections. I think we should still list Pacquiao as a PDP-Laban member with a footnote explaining the situation (and a link to the 2021 PDP–Laban dispute)Hariboneagle927 (talk) 07:15, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- We'd be using whatever shows up in the ballot.
Just like Robredo who is listed as an independent despite still being the Liberal Party chairman.Hmmmm, having a party using an independent label seems to be different from having a party then switching to another party. I remembered we kept Cayetano and Trillanes as Nacionalistas while running as independents in 2016. At this point, Pacquiao and Atienza are treated as if they're from PROMDI. Reference for Congressional canvass for the 2004 Philippine presidential election
Hello there. I noticed that you were the original poster of the data in the Congressional canvass for the 2004 Philippine presidential election. I would like to ask what your specific reference was for that data, and how we can access that particular reference. If you have similar information on the congressional canvass for the 1992 and 1998 Philippine presidential election, that would also be great. Thank you for your time. The Mask (talk) 10:59, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
- As per history, it was copied from Philippine general election, 2004, which is now at 2004 Philippine presidential election. The source for the provinces and cities stats seems to have died, as it was 17 years ago. I do remember local media showing historical data during the 2016 cycle; those might return in 2022.
