Disambiguation link notification for February 10[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Johann Georg Elser, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page SIS (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

March 2014[edit]

Hello Iantomferry, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your addition to Santorini has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Dougweller (talk) 21:46, 8 March 2014 (UTC) Hello, I'm BracketBot. Convince me I shouldn't block you for copyright violations[edit]

I'm sorry, but I have warned you before about copyright violations. I just looked at Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Cycladic architecture and it was all copied from either [1] or other Wikipedia articles without attribution. Please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. I've deleted it, which is in one sense a shame as you worked hard on it. You've got the will and the energy but you really must respect our policies and guidelines. Just to clarify one thing about another article you are working on, sources need to be reliably published so that editors can verify them. Take a good look at WP:RS and WP:VERIFY. So you can't use material someone gave you but hasn't been published. Dougweller (talk) 14:29, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

I've replied on my talk page but you have said nothing that shows that you understand our copyright policy. Dougweller (talk) 19:09, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
Sure, you can begin it again. Just follow our policies including the one about copying material. The main thing is probably to make sure that you have academic sources for each bit that call whatever you are talking about cycladic architecture. Dougweller (talk) 22:12, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
Wait until tomorrow, I'll restore what I can. I don't understand the purpose of the list of islands. Dougweller (talk) 22:16, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
Done. A few comments. Tourist guides will often be rejected as sources. You might want a new title, eg "Architecture of the Cycladic Islands" as the current title might be confused with Cycladic art - see some of the sources here[2]. Some of your entries - quite a few, don't discuss architecture but just name islands - they really don't belong. AfC has some really good reviewers but the occasional inexperienced one, and passing AfC is not a guarantee it's a good article - I've seen AfC approved articles that had considerable copyvio or sources that don't pass our criteria. The subject itself is clearly notable, so you don't have to worry about that, but all the text needs to relate to the subject (as do the sources). Hope this helps. Possibly unfree File:MONA Hobart red car sculpture.jpg[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:MONA Hobart red car sculpture.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you object to the listing for any reason. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:32, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

I have been in contact with MONA. They express no copyright infringement, but advise: Over the next month or so, we will be taking a more hands-on approach to the wiki site, as some of what has been posted already, is incorrect. With that in mind, you can leave the image you have posted, however it may be likely replaced with one of ours soon. Thanks for the courtesy of checking with us. As long as you attribute the image to yourself and credit it accordingly, then that should be fine for now. Cheers, Jane Menzies MONA Iantomferry (talk) 03:57, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Eliezer Levi Montefiore[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Eliezer Levi Montefiore requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/montefiore-eliezer-levi-4224/text6811. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Reventtalk 13:49, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Cycladic architecture[edit]

Hello, Iantomferry. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Cycladic architecture".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by one of two methods (don't do both): 1) follow the instructions at WP:REFUND/G13, or 2) copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Draft:Cycladic architecture}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, and click "Save page". An administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 02:00, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open![edit]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. File permission problem with File:Art Gallery of NSW Becentennial Wing sketch.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Art Gallery of NSW Becentennial Wing sketch.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, BOT-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate your file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
