Hello, I have received your message about the neutral point of view. I will do my best to adjust and try to make it seem neutral. I am just trying to raise awareness of this clinic so people know what our objective is in helping the public.

Thank you Fazrah00 (talk) 05:53, 20 October 2018 (UTC) Fazal Rahman Fazrah00 (talk) 05:53, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi Fazel. Raising awareness is not what Wikipedia is for, that is promotion, and not allowed here. As you are clearly connected to the clinic, you have a conflict of interest, and therefore shouldn't be writing about it at all--Jac16888 Talk 09:01, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

What I mean by raising awareness is by having it available to the public for research when looking it up and the history of it. I am not part of the clinic and I am a college student in fact that knows a lot about the clinic from past research projects. I have spoken to multiple people there so I have sources and I find that I am best fit to be able to write about it. The person who began this clinic has a history of what they have accomplished which I was trying to write about since they are an upcoming figure in the the communities. I'm not even mainly writing about the clinic, but it was just something that this person was a founder of and his dream of it.

Deletion of User's Sandbox.

Dear Jac16888,

I am writing you to discuss your decision to delete my sandbox page. The outcomes I am looking for are either: 1) My sandbox page is restored. or 2) I receive the most recent version of my sandbox page, before you deleted it. If outcome 2 is selected, I would take my page to an external website and host it outside of Wikipedia.org. If outcome 1 is selected, that would be the end of the situation. I hope at least to get a copy of it before deletion back.

Cheers, Ckulsen — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ckulsen (talkcontribs) 20:50, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

I have restored the page, temporarily, however it does not belong on Wikipedia in the slightest, 48 hours from now I will delete it again--Jac16888 Talk 21:10, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

Edits on Ecofeminism

Hello, I am a student editor and this was my first time ever editing wikipedia. I did all my work for the article in my sandbox, including adding my citations. I was under the impression that I could simply copy and paste my contribution and the citations would also transfer. I saw your edit and realized that it did not work that way and I have gone back and added the citations. Thank you for making sure that my contribution was up to wikipedias standards and I am happy to answer any other questions you have regarding my article! Thanks! Hello, Jac16888. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Citing images

Hi. I saw your edit to one of the references to an image that I inserted. I wasn't quite sure how to cite one of WP's images, and (understandably) couldn't find a cite template for it, so I tried to analogize from the existing style output by the cite templates. Is the practice documented somewhere? I understand the general guidance on not citing WP, but this seems to be a reasonable case, where official sources don't seem to exist, so it seems reasonable to rely on pics of the mileposts to testify as to the MP values, right? —[AlanM1(talk)]— 02:03, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi Alan, it wasn't the image I had an issue with, just the including of the editor/photographer who took it, which is covered by MOS:CREDITS--Jac16888 Talk 12:06, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

Deletion of a page

Hey, I was wondering why my article got deleted without any feedback given. The page was for a school project. I would love to know why the page got deleted and how I can improve the page to not be deleted for the future. Thanks.KJarvis.2 (talk) 23:04, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

It wasn't deleted, I moved it back to your sandbox, User:KJarvis.2/sandbox, and I could tell it was a school project because it read like homework, not an encyclopedia article. I suggest looking at articles for other mathematical concepts to see how they should be written--Jac16888 Talk 15:13, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

Adam Smith Institute comments

Don't have a problem with you deleting my comments under two of the topics and saying they belong on the article talk page, but I tried to find out how I should do that and couldn't, so any advice greatly appreciated.

What I'd really like to see is those two topics removed completely pending someone addressing my concerns.

Can you help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikiwrangler (talkcontribs) 02:19, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

Okay! I think I've cracked it!

But how can I remove the original sections? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikiwrangler (talkcontribs) 02:42, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

If the content is not appropriate, you can just delete it, but unless you justify it well it may be reverted. Perhaps reach out to other editors of the article and ask them to weigh in on the discussion you've started on the talk page--Jac16888 Talk 12:45, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

Refeing on Wikipedia that contain a valid Reference

Thank's for your contribution.

I do not know the rules in en.wikipedia.

In the German Wikipedia it is also specified that Wikipeida is not a valid source. But if the reference content on Wikipedia-Page has a valid external Reference, as for example Huber Price has a valid source there is no rule that is allowed/vorbitten to refer on that, since the contense is from Wikipedia, but proved with an external source, therefore this quoted content gets reliable even it is in the unreliable Wikipedia.  — Johannes Kalliauer - contrib. 17:15, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

In such a case could you not just reference the external source directly, instead of referencing a use of it? --Jac16888 Talk 18:31, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
There are three reasons why it does not make sence to just reference the external source directly:
  • Since it's not wrong, and therefore it is a matter of taste and therfore I would give the original author the desition.
  • I think it is a matter of honor/reputation to also quote the author, where you found out this information, from a "not valid" source, but also quote the valid primary/original source. (As I did.)
  • And links often break (not all them get archived), Wikipedia's difflinks break very unlikely (Except there is a personal attack, or a copyright-violation.).
What would you do if
  • It referes to a book, or another source that you can't get easily?
  • What if the Wikipedia uses two sources and use the explantation of a third book to come to a new conclusion, than you will need the whole text of Wikipedia, to know how to combine the three proved statements to get the new specific statement, which you need.
 — Johannes Kalliauer - contrib. 08:13, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
Honestly I think you're over-thinking this. A) The original author is the reference itself, not the editor who linked to it elsewhere. B) Again the information comes from the reference, honour has nothing to do it with it and I can't see that somebody is going to be offended because you used a reference that they have also used. C) I don't see how a broken link would be any different from a difflink, you're still pointing to a reference that can't be found. To answer your questions, A) You can use a book as a source the same as anything else, B) I'm pretty sure that would consitutute original research. The point is, regardless of how things are done on the German Wikipedia, here on the English Wikipedia you cannot use an another article (or any history of it) as a reference.--Jac16888 Talk 16:06, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi Jac16888 I received a message from you about a picture I had on my page that wasn't valid. Response to notification (& newbie schooling requested:)

Hi Jac, I'm writing in response to 2 notifications I received and am hoping you can provide some clarity. The 1st notification was letting me know that an anonymous user created the msg listed below, and the 2nd notification was saying you removed it. I never found their msg where other msgs are shown on my talk page; I only saw what the user wrote by clicking on the "last edited by..." button. I'm obviously new and apologize for your extra work, but would you mind taking the time to explain what happened? If that user edited my talk page, and the original & revert both showed up on my notifications, did they have access to my account? Or was it just another new user that made an honest mistake & you erased it? Thank you! Here's a copy of what the user posted:

@MinorEnglishMajor: Hi there. The anon editor was a long term troll who badgers people with inane questions and never accepts answer. Cleanup HTML template

Regarding this change, I'm not sure what the downside would be, exactly? Was there another way you would prefer to solve this problem? -- Beland (talk) 21:47, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

What if you leave? Or are unable to contribute anymore? It's not exactly a good idea to have a specific editor as the go-to person for something like this, a Wikipedia page would be better--Jac16888 Talk 16:00, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
Well, then I would change the template. But I've since changed the template to take a "tags" parameter to help people out, and listed the known bad tags on the linked instruction page. -- Beland (talk) 23:38, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
(I'm already the only person updating the moss project, so if I disappear that would also all break down unless someone else took it over. At least it's open source.) -- Beland (talk) 23:40, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Can you please point me to the location that I can find the deleted article in? Thank you, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aursal (talkcontribs) 22:02, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

I cannot restore the page because it contained a copyright violation (as well as being blatantly promotional). If you would like to write an article you need to do so in your own words, in a neutral manner and using multiple references from reliable third party sources--Jac16888 Talk 22:08, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

Hello!

I see that you moved my page back to draft as it was overly promotional. Can you please point me in the right direction and say which part(s) so I can correct it and improve it? I appreciate the time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kristijanwh (talkcontribs) 12:58, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

All of it was promotional, it reads like a company website. I'd suggest reading Wikipedia:Your first article as a start--Jac16888 Talk 20:24, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

Hello.

OK, thank you. I read the link you provided, read a few similar pages and decided to remove what I thought was the promotional material. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kristijanwh (talkcontribs) 07:55, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

That is better, except for the "Points of Distinction" section which is still too promotional. Deal with that, and then I recommend submitting it to the WP:AFC procedure for further review--Jac16888 Talk 17:34, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Marie C. Brehm

Hi there,

Just saw your removal of the content at Marie C. Brehm with citations that pointed to a sandbox. Thanks for pointing that out. Looks to be resolved, but I thought I'd leave a brief note of explanation because it's a common error you'll probably see again. I remember I was confused the first time I saw it. Basically, when you want to copy material from a sandbox, you need to first enter edit mode, then copy everything. Doing so will preserve the references when pasted into the article. If you forget to enter edit mode first, it just copies the footnotes as what they fundamentally are -- links to that page's references section (but not the references themselves). Of course, nobody's obliged to fix such errors when spotted, but if you feel inclined, it's usually an easy fix. :) Thanks. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 18:46, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

It is already a common problem, and seems to be getting worse (see User talk:Ian (Wiki Ed)#A question on references and my recent contributions for more). It needs to be made clear to the students doing this that it is incorrect and very problematic, and I believe they are more likely to learn from their error if they have to re-do the edits themselves correctly, which is why I have been removing the content altogether and then notifying the student--Jac16888 Talk 19:07, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi Jac, thank you for the welcome but I have been on Wikipedia a while, I just prefer to be an IP these days. I guess you saw my comments at WP:PNT, I have listed Donets Railway at WP:RM per WP:CONSISTENT to change to Donetsk Railway but it depends if you want the Cyrillic transliteration from Russian or Ukrainian, so it is bound by the nature of the subject to be controversial. Collapsology

"Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing." Jac16888 Talk 15:47, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Come on Jac16888 ! You are the one vandalising for several month the Collapsology page. "rv unsourced" is not a valid claim that let you delete part of an article. Should you feel concerned about the sources you should display a warning on the page instead. Well, if you block my IP adress, I will use a VPN to bypass your censure. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:AA13:6201:7F00:28C1:3D06:23E7:A95D (talk) 18:47, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Yes it is. The content you are adding does not have a source to back it up, therefore it is unsourced. Try using a VPN if you want, I'll just protect the page. Find a reliable source or stop adding the content those are your options. Also the fact you decided to mindlessly revert a number of my edits with clearly malicious intent is further evidence that you are editing disruptively--Jac16888 Talk 13:40, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia Review

Hi, I would like to ask some questions. I had created an English wikipedia which translated from the Chinese wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Jacky_Liew_(Si_Gongzi)#cite_note-6 (Draft English) https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%BB%96%E5%9F%8E%E5%85%B0 (Chinese Version) I am confuse about as the author perhaps it does not have as much information in Chinese page, but still can it be translated? And also the draft was published since January, but it already past for 3 months still did not approval or rejection. May I request for your review on it? Thank you for removing my lead.

Hi Jac, just wanted to say thank you for removing my lead. I would've done it myself except I was worried that that too would get caught by the Edit Filter. To explain why I wrote it, disambiguation pages which use bolding to mark sections rather than actual section headers are a pet peeve of mine. I enjoy converting them because it's an easy edit to make and it's unlikely that anybody would revert the edit (Although that has happened before). The edit I finally managed to get past the EF was actually my third attempt at doing so so I hope you can understand my frustration.

After the EF blocked my first attempt, and then having my complaint about a clearly false positive be cheerfully dismissed by the only person to look at it, I decided to take a break. The next day I tried again, hoping the block was only a passing glitch. Except it wasn't. I thought about making a second EF false positive report, but I decided not to since the first had been dismissed so quickly. So I left it. But it bugged me that I couldn't add my improvement to Wikipedia (Did I say bold-only section headers are a pet peeve of mine? Because they are).

So I sat and thought about it for awhile and eventually decided that if the EF wanted a lead I'd give it one. I'd only intended to write a couple of sentences, but after starting to write it it all just spilled out (A bit like this thank you note really). I wanted to express my frustration, not only with the EF's repeated false positives, but also the casual dismissal of my report of said false positives. Obviously I couldn't start swearing my head off as the aim is to improve Wikipedia, not diminish it, so I resorted to sarcasm. I'm not sure why it came out so old-fashioned but I'm glad you found it charming.

Once again thank you again for removing my lead. --86.144.218.39 (talk) 21:49, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

Kompyuter va axborot texnologiyalari fakulteti‎ redirect

Hi. I had a speedy deletion tag on Kompyuter va axborot texnologiyalari fakulteti. I was surprised that you redirected it to another article because this title doesn't conform to WP:FORRED. The university it's about is in Latvia. The title is Uzbek. The same user who'd created that copy of the English article (the one that's been draftified) in Uzbek had also created it in Tamil with a Tamil title; that one was deleted yesterday. Largoplazo (talk) 19:13, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

I didn't really consider the language of the title to be honest, it wasn't valid for A10 at the time unfortunately because the english version had been moved back to draft. I see the draft has just been declined anyway, so I've IAR deleted it--Jac16888 Talk 15:24, 28 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Zhao Xun, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Zhao Hong. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Translation tags

Does the 'not English' tag preclude providing a sourced translation? If so, what is the appropriate tag if not the 'not English' tag? I don't dispute the need for a reference, but I don't see the alternative. It seems inappropriate to simply ignore large quotations of untranslated text and the 'not English' tag would seem to do the job of marking the text for needed maintenance. If the concern is that someone will provide an original translation, how about adding an editor's comment next to the tag to make it clear the English translation provided needs a source? Or would it be better to delete (or comment-out) such untranslated passages? - Scyrme (talk) 00:44, 28 November 2021 (UTC)

The purpose of the not english tag is to request that an editor at WP:PNT translate said content, which I'm sure you would agree would constitute OR in the case of poems and such. In my opinion there is no harm in leaving the content untranslated, perhaps with an expanded "citation needed" tag, although similarly I see no real harm in removing it--Jac16888 Talk 14:09, 29 November 2021 (UTC)

Doxing avoidance

Re your revert at 00:25 UTC. We are getting very close to a doxing situation here I am trying to avoid. The I sent email sent to OTRS/VRT has public attachments/URLs pointing to a reliable published source. What I don't have is a OTRS/VRT ticket response, which is concerning/annoying but it may be my emails between accounts are messed. Can I first confirm you have checked OTRS and specifically examined the evidence I sent, and secondly it would help me if you could delete User:Djm-mobile/common.js as I made a mistake setting the wiki-break enforcer for that account which is set to 11 December 2021 and means I can't check preferences on that account. Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 01:08, 28 November 2021 (UTC)

If the email points to a reliable published source, then as far as I can see that source itself can be referenced without issue, your email is not necessary and is not something that is done anywhere else on Wikipedia - I will admit that I was unable to find any specific guidelines either way as to the use of an email in this situation, but the lack of any such listings in either of these reports gives me confidence that there are few if any cases. In addition there appear to be a few cases in the WP:RSN archive such as Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 68#Citing an email that agree this would not be appropropriate. I have deleted that JS page for you--Jac16888 Talk 14:10, 29 November 2021 (UTC)

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

I'm assuming, that since you went through and removed all of them, that userlinks should not be incorporated into templates? Is it just frowned upon, or is there a policy-based reason? I really don't mind, just curious and want to learn about the best way to tag paid contributions like this. Thanks. Ganesha811 (talk) 16:15, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

Major revision of article on a nuclear reactor

Hello Jac16888. I see you removed an editorial comment in the article ThorCon_nuclear_reactor, but it is not clear whether that means I should proceed with the proposed deletion, or leave the paragraph as is. This article has a history of problems (see the Talk page), and it appears to be abandoned in 2015 by the original author Siphon06, who is no longer available even on a user page.

I would like to continue with revisions to this article and add articles on other reactors - focusing on the key issues of safety, waste management, weapons proliferation, and cost. How do these new designs address these old problems? On the ThorCon article, I would like to delete information that appears to be too promotional or not important to the issues above, information that is readily available on company websites. There were objections to using company websites and filings with a regulatory agency IAEA for the source of information. I think those problems are addressed by stating clearly in the lead paragraph that we are relying on these companies to provide factual information on their own designs, but I'm still not sure if this is acceptable. See the discussion of sources at: Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions/Archive_1146#Regulatory_agencies_as_a_reliable_source

I am worried now that I am just wasting my time, and I may run into similar problems on other articles. I am not affiliated with any of these companies. I would like to work with an editor who can provide some guidance along the way, and not make a big effort only to have everything trashed in the end. David MacQuigg 23:58, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

I deleted that comment purely because comments such as that go on the talk page, not because I agreed or disagreed with the statement. In terms of making changes to the article, I would simply advise you to be bold, and I would definitely support the removal of overly promotional content. I understand the issues you have with sourcing, and unfortunately it's not something with an easy answer, however much of what is included (with the exception of the critiques section) does not seem especially controversial so use of some first party sources is perhaps not the worst thing (although I am not an expert). I would say that this sentence: "this article is a brief summary of information from ThorCon USA Inc. For more details see the ThorCon documents[2] and ThorCon's Status Report to the IAEA." is not necessary, and the links should just be used within the article where necessary, and that the critiques section does need a rewrite and sourcing to more than one place if possible--Jac16888 Talk 21:12, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. I will do as you suggest and delete the lead sentence about sourcing. That will probably get new objections from the editors who originally rejected the article for not having independent sources. Can I copy this discussion to the Talk page of the article, and at least get all the editors with an interest in this topic in one place? Maybe then I can get some consensus on how to proceed. Do you have enough interest to stick with this topic? I understand Wikipedia has an engineering workgroup. Surely someone there has an interest in nuclear power. David MacQuigg 02:23, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
Looking at the history of the article, it doesn't look to be regularly edited, so I don't expect you'll get any pushback on those edits, although I could be wrong. The topic is not something I know a great deal about to be perfectly honest, you might have more luck approaching the folks at Wikipedia:WikiProject Physics or Wikipedia:WikiProject Engineering who are likely much more knowledgable--Jac16888 Talk 20:34, 3 April 2022 (UTC)
