Aishwarya picture[edit]

Hi Mailyn, ads are not allowed as it would look like wikipedia is promoting that brand. Even magazine covers are allowed only as fair use; see WP:FU for more. looks like you are learning the ropes here fast, keep it going. Regards, --Gurubrahma 12:38, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mailyn, just saw ur last 2 msgs. It is okay by me but someone may object that the previous cover was better and may revert your edit. It is always better to get a public domain or free image to blunt criticism. --Gurubrahma 13:01, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Better" is in perception. Typically, ppl may say there is already an existing magazine cover, why change it? I suggest you may be better off working on free pics or magazine covers of other actresses instead of duplicating work. people's preferences are also diff - some may want to see her profile, some her face etc. enough for today ;) --Gurubrahma 13:30, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Carlos Ponce[edit]

First of all Mailyn, I love your name! Second of all I saw the logic in your reasoning (Damn, I hate it when I'm wrong}. However, the "Cat-Cuban people" was eliminated because he already appears in the cats of Cuban singers and actors and therefore would be rebundent. I have to check and see if Barbara Bermudo's parents were Cuban since I wrote both articles but, I'll do that later. Anyway, keep up the good work, I have a good feeling about you. If I can be of any help in the future, feel free to drop me a line. Tony the Marine 22:57, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Brain Teasers:[edit]

Hi, just sending out a friendly notice stating that I have now got brain teasers on my user page. Will post new questions one day after the older ones have been answered. Thanks, Spawn Man 06:15, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re; Cuban categories[edit]

Hi Mailyn, how's your mom and pets? You know I answered your message about five days ago. I started to wonder if you received it and when I checked I found out that I forgot to click the "save" button. If you ever have a question or you simply want to talk, feel free to drop me a line, that's what Wiki-friends are for.

In regard to your question about: Category:Cuban-American vs Category:Cuban-American_entertainers. I won't redirect them because, while the first Cat includes everybody, the second is more specific as to the field of the person. I imagine that there must be a Category: Cuban-American politican and so on. Now, if there also exsists a "List of Cuban-American" then, I recomend that either the "Cat Cuban-Americans" or the "List of Cuban-Americans" be deleted to avoid repetition.

Thank you for the Barbara Bermudo information and remember you have a friend in me Tony the Marine 01:20, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly Chat[edit]

Mailyn my friend, I will not forget to push the "save" button.

I checked the "Catgory:Cuban people" and it is exactly the same as the "List of Cubans". Another thing, there is also a "Category:Cuban people by occupation" which is a good thing. In my opinion the "Cat Cuban people" isn't necessary. What should or could be done is go to the articles and delete the "Category Cuban people". If the article does not have the a Category which places that person in a specific field, then it should be done.

In regard to the introductions of an article especially if the perosn is born in another country of whatever descent and works in Hollywood, I will give two examples of my articles:

"Henry Darrow (born Enrique Tomas Delgado, Jr. on September 15, 1933 in New York City) is an actor who is best remembered for his role of "Manolito" in the popular 1960's television western series called "The High Chaparral".

Henry is the first born son of Gloria and Enrique Delgado Sr., who migrated to New York from Puerto Rico in the early 1930's. When Henry was 8 years old, he participated in a school play where he acted as a woodcutter. As a child, this acting experience was all he needed to convince him that's all he'll ever want to be. His parents were very supportive and always encouraged him to pursue his dreams."

and

"Joaquin (pronounced "Wah KEEN") Rafael Phoenix (born October 28, 1974 in San Juan, Puerto Rico), also known as Leaf Phoenix, is an actor in the USA. He often plays supporting roles as conflicted, insecure characters, and often with a dark side.

His Irish-Spanish father, John Bottom, and Bronx-born Jewish mother, Arlyn Dunitz, joined the Children of God cult and became missionaries, traveling throughout South America and adopting the surname "Phoenix". Joaquin, who was born in Puerto Rico, lived in the island until he was six years old. After leaving the cult and returning to the United States, they encouraged their children (Joaquin was the third of five) to develop their creative instincts. Since his siblings had nature-related names – "River", "Rain" (or "Rainbow"), "Liberty Butterfly", and "Summer" – Joaquin changed his name to "Leaf"."

In the first case you have a person born in the U.S. of Puerto Rican descent. In the second case you have a person born in Puerto Rico of "American" descent. One is Puerto Rican by descent and the other by birth, but in the small introduction I didn't go into that, instead when I started the early childhood paragraph I mentioned those facts. Nicole Kidman is Australian by birth of American descent, there's no denying that.

Tell me what you think, Tony the Marine 03:47, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mailyn[edit]

Hi and thanks for the "Happy Birthday" but..., it isn't my birthday yet (smile), thats what I like about you, you're a person ahead of your time. My birthday will be on March 9, 2006.

O.K., lets take a look at the introduction and opening paragraph of the Yul Brynner article.

Yul Brynner (July 7, 1915 – October 10, 1985) was a Russian Hollywood actor.

Born Yul Borisovich Bryner in Vladivostok, Russia he appeared in many movies and stage productions in the United States. His mother, Marousia Blagоvidova, was the daughter of a Russian doctor of Jewish heritage (who had converted to Christianity) and his father, Boris Bryner, was an engineer and inventor of Swiss and Mongolian ancestry. He was named Yul after his paternal grandfather, Jules Bryner.

I would rewrite it this way:

Yul Brynner (born Yul Borisovich Bryner (July 7,-October 10, 1985) in Vladivostok, Russia), was a renowned actor in the United States.

Brynner was born in Vladivostok, Rissia.

The introductory short sentence gives an idea of what the article is about and the reader can decide if he/she will continue to read it. The opening paragraph should start to indulge into the person or subjects early beginning.

The Cats.

You don't have delete the "Category: Cuban people" per se. This is what you do. Let's say you go to the article of Cesar Romero. You "click" edit and look for: "Category Cuban people|Romero, Cesar" and just erase it from the page. In your edit tag you just state that the Cat was rebundent because there already exsists a "List of Cubans". That's all. You don't have to be an Administrator to do it and I would really love it if you would think about doing it yourself because your edit count and contributions will soar and if someday I or somebody else nominates you for Admin. that will really count.

I would like you to add your birthdate to the list. You can add the following to your user page:

Hi, don't worry you're never a bother.

O.K. I took a look at the article and its edit history. I don't think the person has any bad intentions towards the article since the user added images. I think that the person does not understand Wiki policy. I suggest the following, go to the "talk page" of the article and the persons "talk page" and explain your position. If the person answers back try to work it out. Remember, never loss your "cool" or get into a heated discussion because this may backfire on you in the future if someday you're nominated for Admin. Normally things turn out O.K., however, if you can't reach an agreement and the person continues to constently revert then let me know. , Your friend Tony the Marine 02:58, 14 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly Chat[edit]

Hi Mailyn, just dropping a line to find out how you been doing? I haven't heard from you for awhile. Tony the Marine 04:44, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You have to realize that he is Mexican because he is a Mexican citizen, not because he "lives in Mexico". I have added "Mexican actor" and clarified that he is because he is a citizen of Mexico. The article specifies as well that he is a Mexican citizen. Bios specify nationality based on citizenship, not place of birth. --Vizcarra 21:13, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ok... mhm... I've explained to you three times now, that he is Mexican because he is a Mexican citizen. Not because he "lives in Mexico". I am not sure, but I don't think he lives in Mexico anymore. When you become a citizen of that country your nationality changes. It is not a matter of changing your residence. --Vizcarra 21:37, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you need to spend much time working on this article to make it "clear" that he is Cuban. I mean, being born in Havana, Cuba takes care of that issue. Maybe inputting more information on his biography would be more beneficial to improve the article. It is still a stub. --Vizcarra 22:25, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly Chat[edit]

I receieved your message and I looked over the articles. I'm glad that you and Vizcarra have reached some kind of agreement. I looked at the article again and they seem fine. Look Mailyn, I know that sometimes you might get discouraged, everbody does, but don't let things get to you. I have a lot of faith in you because I believe that you have a lot to offer to Wiki and that this project needs people like you. your friend Tony the Marine 05:26, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Blackspitz.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Blackspitz.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Tarkan Dudu pressphoto.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jkelly 00:50, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:CEvora LaMadrasta promo.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:CEvora LaMadrasta promo.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. Unspecified source for Image:AAlonso_publicitystill.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:AAlonso_publicitystill.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:25, 7 July 2007 (UTC). Fair use rationale for Image:SBauer_Scarfacestill.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:SBauer_Scarfacestill.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks for uploading Image:AArambula albumcover.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image source problem with Image:MFoo-press.gif[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:MFoo-press.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:02, 27 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 12:02, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:MFoo-press.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:MFoo-press.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:11, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:DDMaria albumcover.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:DDMaria albumcover.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --08:19, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Xiomara Alfaro requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Epeefleche (talk) 00:26, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chronology of Lists[edit]

I saw you contributed the discography and filmography to Vicente Fernandez' article. An extremely large majority of articles and lists (that I have come across) have lists showing older entries at the top and newer entries at the bottom. The lists your contributed are in the opposite order. I don't know if it's been brought to your attention. Since I want to avoid an edit war, I would like your thoughts on reversing the order of the lists on this article (and subsequent discography page) and any other articles you contribute to. The order of entries in lists is addressed in the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Lists_of_works. Ivansevil (talk) 16:39, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
