Tui?

[edit]

Hi Maire. On the Rehua page, could you please explain what type of food is called Tui which you say is a staple diet of Polynesians. I removed the link, because it went to a disamb page, and it obviously doesn't go to Tui. Cheers. Moriori 04:10, August 1, 2005 (UTC)

As the statement about the food staple was there before I created the link, I don't know for sure. But Tane mentions the bird being a food staple, and I believe the Maori in New Zealand did have birds as a sizeable portion of their diet at one point. --Mairi 06:19, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Does not compute! The Tui occurs only in New Zealand and can't possibly have been a staple diet of Polynesians. Moriori 09:09, August 1, 2005 (UTC)
I would assume then that it was only a staple diet of Polynesians in New Zealand. Tane, the other page that mentions Tui, is specifically a New Zealand Polynesian god. --Mairi 18:40, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Spacecraft stub

[edit]

Yes, I know. I didn't know the {{spacecraft-stub}} tag at thagt time and was going to look at the Pitchka article but then I got lost in multitasking and forgot about it. --Saint-Paddy 19:10, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Why this stub-category 'Kanyakumari Stub' is subjected to deletion? Do you think that it is not necessary? Kanyakumari is a district in Tamil Nadu and the articles related to it was placed in this category.Shortly all the articles in the category will be expanded. Still you think that it should be deleted please tell me why? Thank You. - Vaikunda Raja

Argentine stubs

[edit]

Hi Mairi. I wanted to know why you placed deletion tags to {{Argentina-cult-stub}}, {{Argentina-hist-stub}} and their associated Categories. It's true they have not been yet populated, but they are still rather new. Their use is explained at Category:Argentina-related stubs and they do not overlap. You may replay here. -Mariano(t/c) 09:16, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

...never mind, just saw the talk at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. -Mariano(t/c) 09:19, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Helloproject-stub

[edit]

I just added this stub today and was just starting to add it to incomplete articles related to Hello! Project. Don't you think you're being a little bit hasty by proposing that it be deleted? Cjmarsicano 02:08, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the standard for stub templates is to have atleast 50 existing articles. From what I can tell, there isn't that, as Category:Hello! Project (and sub categories) have only 14 articles. (It doesn't help that Hello! Project isn't entirely clear on what it is.) By the way, the deletion discussion is at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. --Mairi 02:14, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

India-university-stub

[edit]

Hi, thanks for checking to make sure everything was okay with the stub and category I just created! I actaully did propose this sort of stub on Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals a while back, although indirectly (I basically proposed the creation of university stubs based on a couple of countries and suggested in my proposal that more countries should follow). Anyway, thanks again for checking. Kamezuki 07:18, 16 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A question...

[edit]

Hi Mairi - a question: have you ever thought about becoming an admin? If you'd like to consider it, I'm willing to nominate you... Grutness...wha? 01:43, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be honored to be nominated. The thought had occurred to me before, as it would be useful, particularly for dealing with SfD backlogs... --Mairi 04:27, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

'tis done - head over to Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/Mairi, accept, and answer a few more questions! Grutness...wha? 05:12, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! and answered... --Mairi 06:28, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Stub type...

[edit]

Thanks for adding it, was going to do so once I'd finished a "sweep" through the parent. (Or given up on doing so for the duration.) And good to see you're getting your User_talk: page quota up. :) Alai 02:47, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop removing Templates

[edit]

I've seen that you've moved my Neuro-stub template to the Neuroscience-Stub template. That's very nice except it wasnt extrenuous or superfluous, it was a related stub template for the actual projec,t much like WikiProject:final Fantasy has, and others - E.g. As an indication of the expansion, and efforts, as well as some incite into the team behind the articles, seen as Wikiproject Neuroscience is working on expanding ALL neuroscience articles, it would be a good idea for people to get who was doing it.

I'd appreciate it, again, if you'd at lease post some reason other than what you think is extrenuous, because aside from that it's very strenuous on my time when i have to keep wasting time recreating Template stubs, particularly when i see that yourself, you have no indication that you are going to contribute to, or have contributed to Neuroscience related articles.

I'm not meaning to sound mad, i'm just quite annoyed yo udid it without a second though as to the relevance of it. Do not do it again, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not do it again.

Thank You. (Jessica 12:30, 5 October 2005 (UTC))[reply]

I did not move the template; {{Neuroscience-stub}} existed before you created your template, and I redirected the new template to that. The new template duplicated the scope of the existing one, which was already in use and had more standard formatting (including a category). In addition, I did explain, altho briefly, my actions at Wikipedia talk:Wikiproject Neuroscience. I also mentioned the standard procedure for creating stub templates, which still applies to those created by WikiProjects. --Mairi 16:53, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You're a sysop!

[edit]
Hi, Mairi/Archive1, Congratulations on Becoming a Sysop

Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun! =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:05, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Re:SFD log

[edit]

Good question. We never made it explicit where renames should go when the page was set up - since they're currently going into the deletion log, that's probably the best place since the old name at least is being deleted. Perhaps the wording needs to be changed slightly in the header of the sfd page though if we want to make that official. Grutness...wha? 00:05, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't rightly know if there is a Wikiproject related to petroleum articles. I would have to guess "no", I think I would have come across it by now. WikiDon 01:30, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ancient-Rome-stub

[edit]

In a case like this, I guess I was thinking six of one, half of a dozen of the other, but now that I think of it, it creates a bit of a hassle for admins when it come time to delete the old stub thanks to GFDL issues. Sorry about that. If you want to delete the Ancient-Rome-stub I made and then do the move that should have been done, I have no objections. Caerwine 00:19, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

New stub

[edit]

Hello - Ive just made my first stub template and catagory ({{vehicle-stub}} and Category:Vehicle stubs after the discussion on the proposals page). Im reasonably sure I did everything ok but Id be happy if someone who knows more about stubs can check. Could you have a look at them for me? Thanks BL kiss the lizard 02:01, 15 October 2005 (UTC) (BL Lacertae)[reply]

Looks pretty good. I listed it on WP:WSS/ST. It'd be nice if it could have a parent stub category, but there doesn't seem to be an appropriate one. It ought to be made the parent category of many existing categories, tho, including Category:Aircraft stubs, Category:Automobile stubs Category:Van stubs, Category:Individual ship or boat stubs. --Mairi 02:16, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. yay! did it right :) Ive added it as a parent to those ones you said (tho I did it for water-transport stubs, not the ship or boat one, since that looked like the better one to put in vehicle stubs). thanks again! BL kiss the lizard 04:58, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yep :) Alright; I also added Category:Bus stubs, Category:Motorcycle stubs and Category:Locomotive stubs as children. Now people just need to find a few more articles to use it on... --Mairi 02:49, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re Harprit and Bollywood

[edit]

Dear Mairi, I'm afraid we don't have much of a community at Bollywood. In many ways, it's a "done" article, and folks are working hard on various actor and film articles. I've asked for help and no one has responded.

It's not really a question of the Bollywood article per se; I have balked Harprit at various articles (Urdu and Bhangra particularily) and he has responded by threatening me physically, vandalizing my user page and now, methodically reverting anything I've edited ANYWHERE. He operates under several usernames and anonIPs, so blocking him isn't going to stop him, I'm afraid. I can't quite figure out what he is -- sometimes he sounds like a gung-ho Hindutva street warrior and sometimes he characterizes my edits as anti-Muslim. He does not write grammatical English, or defend his edits with much of anything other than threats and reverts. In the Bollywood article, he's trying to remove any mention of Urdu in the opening section. Whereas anyone who has listened to Bollywood lyrics with their endless dil, ishq, and mohabbat knows that Urdu is alive and well in Bollywood <g> -- at least in the lyrics. But do read both versions of the articles and see what you think. Zora 06:12, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mostly what she claims is a bunch of lies, I hadn't vandalized anything i just stripped her of a barnstar because of her name-calling and childish behavior then somebody told me I wasn't allowed to do that. She's had a vendetta, if you take a look at her contributions for the last couple of weeks, you can see that she has been going to pages that I could really care less about and Defaming my name "Harprit Attack!!". The worse thing about her is that when she's busy playing the role of WikiGod, whatever is against what she prefers she started pleading for help on talk pages. "please revert war him" "please hold my fort" and so on.
As for the Bollywood page, I agree with her that those words dil, ishq, mohabbat, and such are Urdu words, but just normal Urdu words. And i also agree that the songs in those Indian moveis are comprised mostly of Urdu. If you look at the difference between those two at Bollywood, her claims are silly. Just because I changed 'poetic Urdu words' to 'Urdu words', she says i remove the mention. I just hope she gets some sense ----HaRpRiT

I was looking at contributions and found that Kwamikagami has violated the three revert on Hindustani Language page. I hope that the same rule would be carried out as it had been on me.----HaRpRiT

Splitting {{India-geo-stub}}

[edit]

Hello Mairi. It was nice to receive your message. My thanks to you for your valuable comments. I agree that I should have put up my idea for splitting {{India-geo-stub}} at the appropriate forum before doing that unilaterally for wider participation and comments on the proposal. I am doing it right now. Frankly, I was not well conversant with the matter. Thanks again. --Bhadani 13:55, 19 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
