Hello Tony, hope my message finds you well.
U.S. MajorAlbert L. Myer was mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, immediately after the American invasion of 1898. He was American, most likely appointed by one the military governor of PR at the time, either Miles, Brooke, Henry or Davis, with the blessing of McKinley. Is there a way to find out what battalion he was with, where (in the US) he was born, place of death, etc. (I suspect b. ca. 1850 - d. ca. 1920, but that's just a wild +/- 20 yrs guess.) I suspect you have tools for searching military records. For example, since the American barracks in Ponce were at Cuartel Militar, somewhere (in the US military libraries) are the records as to how this major was governing the city (at the time, Ponce was Puerto Rico's largest city). Can you point me in the right direction as to where this major's bio, if you will, can be found? Just his place and date of birth and his place and date of death would be a huge step forward. Thanks! I invite you to take a look at this new article, Fuerte de San José, and perhaps you have some additional ideas. I haven't come across any pictures of the place, certainly none PD, but would be good if I could find at least one of the site plan or silhouette of the structure. IAE, if the Spanish had fortified the South better, I doubt the Americans would had succeed (assuming no traitors, of course, of which there seemed to be many). Book
Amigo, THIS book was published before 1923. As such, all pics in it are PD. Captures can be done either by taking a pic of the pic, by Windows Snipping Tool, scanning the pic from the actual hardcopy book from a library, etc. A treasure trove of military information is found in it; unfortunately nothing about Fuerte de San Jose even though several dozen pics in it were take just yards from the fort - a full 7 years before it was demolished. @Mercy11: Captures are not needed. Try this: 1) Download the file 2) Open the .pdf file and do "File / Save as HTML" and let it rip. After a few minutes of "processing" you will find a folder on your computer with all the images separated into files. I did it and it created 423 separate .JPEG files, each one with an image that the computer pulled from a page. You'll end up with 423 files in the folder called "Images" and each will be named by (file name "fotosprourislandsres_img + a running number). example: fotosprourislandslres_img_423 <--- is the last file that was saved in my images folder when I did file / save as .html. As the boss said, you'll have to add the info re: the book, manually, as you're uploading each file.--Level C (talk) 21:22, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

I was tinkering with WIKISOURCE, the free library and learned, just yesterday, how to do an automatic upload of a book to 1) commons so that then it can be included in 2) Wikisource English / Spanish / Polish, etc.. I guess these books can go in Commons and then be used in Wikisource Spanish, for example under Spain and Puerto Rico, since those are the book categories, I guess. And maybe some of the PD books should be entirely uploaded to commons for use across wikis, i.e. in Wikisource Spanish- especially shorter books, picture books, historical books.... I've done an auto upload of a short book to commons twice, once with the IA Uploader tool and once page by page. FYI, "Talk pages" are underused and is a topic of conversation, as we speak, here. Thanks!!! I just got approval for the WP:AWB tool so that helps me scan and update pages a little easier. I just this saw and wanted to share it with you and @Mercy11:. The population of Malezas then and now. Anyway, I want to make some maps for the barrio and river articles. Did you see this cool list? List of cays and islets of Puerto Rico - it's nice to click on the cays coordinates and then use the "Zoom Earth" map function and you go right to the island. It's cool. So, I like the Ponce river maps but I don't have the software for that. I'll keep cleaning up articles until I find a way to make maps. There's so much missing information on Puerto Rico. The Eloquent Peasant, Thank you for the link. I served on two ships during my service. Both were loaded with equipment used in Vietnam and that were covered with Agent Orange. I guarded Machine guns and vehicles. Now, get this, Forty-five years later the government admitted that the Marines that came into contact with equipment on ships used in Vietnam were also exposed to Agent Orange. In my case I was not only exposed to Agent Orange, but my platoon was taken to a hill near the Pacific Ocean in Okinawa where the U.S. detonated a nuclear device (bomb). Therefore, my troops had been exposed to Agent Orange and Nuclear Radiation. The government recognized this and I am paying the price. Hi, Tony. Please cast your mind waaay back, to 2005. You created the La La Anthony article, and included a date of birth. You did not give a reference for it. But now 14 years later, a person claiming to be La La Anthony says that this date is incorrect. Do you happen to remember where that date came from?
Our problem is that we now have a bunch of allegedly reliable sources for the date. However, none of them predate the creation of the article, so they could all have been copying from the article or from each other, and the date is now in other places including other Wikipedias and Wikidata.
My own first edits were in 2006, and I know our methods have evolved quite a bit since then. I also know I would have difficulties remembering the details of a source from then, but if you can help out I would appreciate it. -Arch dude (talk) 06:42, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for letting me know. I can't recall, my age is catching up to me, however I can assure you that I must have had an excellent source at the time to post June 25, 1979. I believe that it should stay as is because it was confirmed in "La La Anthony Bio: Her Story In Her Words – Video Exclusive, News, Photos" on February 12, 2014. Now, anyone can contact Wikipedia and claim to be whom ever they want to be to make changes, but unless that person provides proof or any evidence of whom they claim to be and that their allegations are proven to be truthful, then I believe that we can't do anything about it.
I had a situation once where the lawyer son of an underworld figure which I wrote about, wanted to have the article written in a way that it would favor his father otherwise he threaten to sue me. I made it clear that the information in the article came from reliable sources and that if he and his father were to sue anybody, it should be the media which provided the sources for the article. Ha, great question. I really do not know if I was right in adding that statement. I just wanted to let those who do not know who is and who is not Puerto Rican to understand that, in accordance to the law, there is a Puerto Rican citizenship which states that those who are born outside of Puerto Rico to Puerto Rican parents are Puerto Rican. And that is why many notable Boricuas born outside of the island qualify to be included in the list. Maybe I went a little to far this time and to be honest I won't mind if you removed it. I know what you mean, my friend. The rules in Wikipedia are getting stricter and one of them is that they don't allow personal research because if they do there will be many POV "point of view" edits made which they consider not to be encyclopedic. What they want is that any material that is added to an article cite a reliable verifiable source. The type of sources that they want cited are Newspapers, Magazines and so on. If this is the project you are talking about, I think what you want to do in your article(s) is cite that site on the the third person, not on the first, thus disassociating yourself from the research performed by that site. I have been wanting to create several article on the PR cuatro and everything that goes with it - just haven't had the time it deserves/requires. Hi Tony, in an effort to help instruct others regarding ciudadania puertorriqueña, for years now I had been wanting to update the Certificate of Puerto Rican forms I uploaded back in Jmundo's days (2010). The new forms are here and here. Note these are true scans, not pictures as before, thus the forms are entirely flat and came be read from corner to corner without any of the negative visual effects introduced by the 2010 photography. IMO these are better images than before. If you agree, back in the days, Jmundo put the 2 pages together into a single "montage" file without loosing any resolution (for the most part). (That's the file you have been using, for example, here). Photo montage is, however, a technique I haven't been able to fully master yet. If you have mastered image montages, feel free to join the two into a single file. I will either get around it soon, and hopefully it won't be several more years before I can learn to manipulate it to look like Jmundo's contribution and legacy. thanks, Mercy11 (talk) 08:14, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

Of course, any editor can nominate any article for anything. I was just a bit confused because when you go the the PR article, there is nothing I can find there about the split nomination, even in teh talk pages or archives. BTW, the split on the P.R. was in a Hurricane Maria section. The editor put the split tag to split the Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico into its own article. Sorry I didn't chime in here sooner- I've been overwhelmed with work and stuff. When we first moved to Arizona 30 years ago, there were already 9.000 Boricuas living here. A total of 15 members of the family moved here. Puerto Rican food is what we always eat here. Currently, all the supermarkets have "Hispanic" sections and even sell Productos Goya "Si es Goya tiene que ser bueno". There are PR restaurants and bakery. There are even Cuban businesses which sell sandwishes Cubano. There are many Puerto Rican professionals such as doctors here. All my grandchildren are either half German or Irish. I call them the Bori-Gringos. Even though they look like they are from Sweden, they are proud of their Puerto Rican blood and identify themselves as Puerto Ricans from the Santiago clan. I BELIEVE
I believe that at this time and age, Wikipedia should require that all those who wish to edit or add to our project should be registered users. It is easy for an unregistered user to vandalize an article which many of us have gone through a lot of trouble to write, then immediately make a copy as if that is what was truly written, thereby dis-crediting our project and adding to the reality that ours is an unreliable encyclopedia. The fact is that the majority of the vandalism is caused by un-registered users who have nothing better to do with their lives. If Wikipedia wants to keep it's good and honest contributors who love to share their knowledge with the world in general and wants to gain some sense of being a reliable encyclopedia, then it must do something to protect it's contributors and the articles which they have written from the constant vandalism going on, otherwise what's the use of staying here? History 101
Excuse me, but no one said that he is not an "American"! So are the millions of people born in Puerto Rico whose parents migrated there of other backgrounds. It doesn't matter if you lived one day or 100 years for that matter in Puerto Rico. Joaquin Phoenix is Puerto Rican like it or not! Puerto Rican is a nationality and not a race like so many racist people like to believe. Wikipedia is not about what you like or do not like. It is about facts plain and simple as that. Every person born in Puerto Rico is an American citizen with limitations including Phoenix.
Puerto Rican nationality was recognized in 1898 after Spain ceded the island to the United States as a result of the Spanish-American War. On April 12, 1900, the Congress of the United States enacted the Foraker Act of 1900. Section VII of this act created a Puerto Rican citizenship for the residents "born in Puerto Rico and, therefore, subject to its jurisdiction".[1] In 1917, the United States granted Puerto Ricans U.S. citizenship without the requirement that the islanders renounce their PR citizenship. Since then, everyone born in Puerto Rico are both Puerto Ricans and U.S. citizens. However, in Puerto Rico, Puerto Ricans do not enjoy full U.S. citizenship rights because their rights as such are limited (For example: they can not vote in the Presidential elections). Puerto Ricans do not need to renounce either of the citizenships and do not need a passport to go to the continental United States and once there can participate in every activity as every other U.S. citizen.[2][3] According to the United States Supreme Court, Puerto Rico belongs to but is not part of the United States.[4]
There is a common misconception that all Puerto Ricans are of Hispanic background. The confusion stems from people automatically associating the term 'Puerto Rican' (nationality) with the term 'Hispanic' (ethnicity). Even though the primary ethnicity in Puerto Rico isHispanic,[5] there are numerous other ethnic groups which make up the Puerto Rican nationality. There are many Puerto Ricans of African, Corsican, French, Irish, German, Chinese, Dutch, Lebanese and of Jewish descent, among others.[6]
Now, that you have had your lesson on history, provide and cite a source where Phoenix renounces being labeled as a Puerto Rican. Can't find one? then stop making changes to your POV because a lot of people here are getting tired of what they consider constant vandalism with the removal of facts. I myself am proud of my being called a Puerto Rican even though I was born and raised in New York of "Puerto Rican" parents with a Spanish and Corsican ancestral background. My personal opinion based on facts
Ignorance is the main root of racism. It amazes me how at this time and age some people in the United States react to the term of "Puerto Rican" as if it was a capital sin or disease. Yet, you never hear from anyone acting the same way when the term such as "African-American', Irish-American" and so on, which has kept or nation divided by what seems to be a cast system, is used. I mean, does the term "Polish-American" for example mean that the person in question was born and raised in Poland? There are many people who use this term, not because they have ever lived in Poland, but because a distant relative, maybe 5 generations away, came from there. Some people just can't accept the fact that a notable person born in Puerto Rico is a Puerto Rican.
Even though the people of Puerto Rico automatically have "American Citizenship" with certain limitations when they are born, Puerto Rican is still a nationality with it's own citizenship, plain and simple as that. If these same people would take the time to read about the true history of our nation they would have realized that the people of that small island have made many great contributions to our nation and that Puerto Ricans have fought and defended the rights of our nation in every conflict from the American Revolution to the present-day military conflicts. Thousands of Puerto Ricans have sacrificed and given their lives so that our fellow countrymen can continue to enjoy the rights which we are entitled to. Therefore, next time a person wants to express him or herself in a negative way about the people of Puerto Rico, read your history books first, it may keep you from being an ignorant person.Tony the Marine (talk) 18:42, 26 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi Tony. The "Key people" section in the infobox of this article (Independence movement in Puerto Rico) seemed to be getting out of hand, and I cleaned it up a bit. You are probably more familiar than I am with the rest of the names there. I didn't feel De Tio and Barcelo should be on that list either but decided to draw the line there for now. An editor removed this movie poster that was already validly uploaded in Wikipedia, saying there was "insufficient rationale" for using the movie poster...even though the New York Times stated that Caridad de la Luz starred in the movie. The citation for the New York Times was there too.
Okay, I let it go.
But now this editor just slapped a Template on the article, saying that it has "serious issues."
That is allegedly is not "encyclopedic"...when I provide citations for every single fact!
He also says the footnotes are wrong...I do not see any major problems with the footnotes.
I am already close to violating the 3-revert rule, and I do not want to engage in an edit war with this idiot.
Could you take a look when you get a chance?
The irony is...when the article was a stub with only 3 citations (one of them a dead link) there was no problem, no template. NOW that the article is more thorough and rigorous, with 62 footnotes...NOW they claim there is a problem.
I looked at the File:Posterbone.jpg and saw that there is a rationale created for "Non-free media information and use rationale for Down to the Bone (film)", but none for the use on Caridad's article. You will have to go and create and additional rationale similar to this:
