Because you're adding random facts to put across a pro-Blackburn and anti-Burnley agenda. It's plain for all to see. Mattythewhite (talk) 19:13, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit that you made has been reverted or removed because it was a misuse of a warning or blocking template. Please drop your opinion here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:SLBedit#Peseiro) as soon as possible! --Be Quiet AL (talk) 18:09, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Also, per what I have seen in Nolito, we remove the international goals chart, we don't remove, we remove again... Which is it, please? --Be Quiet AL (talk) 20:43, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

The talk page you've linked to has been blanked.
I'd say present tense is more appropriate in this instance.
The latest consensus I'm aware of is in favour of including international goals. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:01, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
The consensus I read was to remove international goals per WP:NOTSTATS, and if international goals are notable, then an article is created for them. SLBedit (talk) 22:37, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
Please refer to User talk:Mattythewhite/Archive 31#List of International goals for a précis of the situation. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:46, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

About Mr. Guerreiro's personal life section (new version was added with the summary "per source"). Since the source is almost TWO YEARS OLD, would past tense not be applicable here? Would very much like to know, if possible --Be Quiet AL (talk) 22:03, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

The source states that he is a supporter of Benfica, and a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo. That's not WP:RECENTISM. SLBedit (talk) 22:19, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
I think present tense is fine here, but I don't think his career "dreams" and favourite player are notable. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:30, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

I noted your RV at Kennedy. I think the IP concerned needs eyes on. Edits are a mixture of sound ones and unconstructive/vandalism. See also Frank McLintock and Frank O'Farrell. Eagleash (talk) 21:48, 18 June 2016 (UTC)

Apologies for the McLintock error. Twas not vandalism. If you look the previous editor had called him McLinctock in refs so I did a complete find/change forgetting it would take in the first (correct) mention as well. Sorry.--95.146.155.175 (talk) 23:39, 18 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for undoing a change!

Hi! I'm brand-new to Wikipedia, and this is my first time on a talk page, so I'm sorry if I do it wrong! Thanks for undoing the edit on the Kolo Touré page – my suspicion is, since I don't remember editing that page ever, nor did I know who Kolo Touré was until I saw your message, that my younger brother (who's obsessed with football/football players) probably was on Wikipedia when I let him use my computer yesterday (clearly a mistake!) and made some kind of edit to the Kolo Touré page under my account/IP. Thanks for undoing it!

Warning

Thanks Matty. However, your warning is likely to go unnoticed. This IP can potentially be picked up by over 50,000 people. Warnings on IP pages have limited, if any, use. They can also be confusing and worrying to genuine users. And BTW, it wasn't me who made that stupid edit [1]. Incidentally, editing Wikipedia is not a privilege. I've been editing under my user name for over 10 years and I can assure you, it's Wikipedia that is privileged to have people like me, and you, selflessly donating our time to improve the project - just a thought. 141.6.11.25 (talk) 08:18, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

Naming conventions.

Hi, you seem like you would know what the naming conventions are for football related pages (if there are any). Are players listed as playing for (nation) club (team), or (league) club (team)? For example, Thierry Henry is stated as signing "for Premier League club Arsenal" and is a featured article and James Milner, Alberto Moreno, Christian Benteke are "Premier League club Liverpool" too yet many other Liverpool players are "English club Liverpool" or just "Liverpool". It seems strange that there is no uniformity on this and wanted to know if you know what these articles should be listed as. Zaostao (talk) 12:39, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

I don't believe there is decisive consensus of toward any option, although I favour including the division. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:09, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. Do you know if there is somewhere to bring this up that would create an across-the-board rule or is it better to just let it pass? Zaostao (talk) 19:15, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

Troublesome/apparently mute user again at it, is there any valid reason for this many "contributions" (discrepance in display of infobox fields, and I actually tried to reach a compromise with them in other box areas)? I ask you because we (I for one) are getting close to breaking 3RR.

If I am wrong in my approach, I'll stop of course, but would like to hear from you as to the "why". Attentively --Be Quiet AL (talk) 00:04, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

I really don't think it's worth getting in an edit war over infobox coding. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:19, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

Nationality of the catalans (article:Carles Puyol)

Hello, I'm Mattythewhite. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Carles Puyol, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:18, 9 July 2016 (UTC)

Hello Mattythewhite,

Yes, I have provided a reliable source, you can see in the "Talk" section. I copy what I have written here:

The nationality of Puyol is spanish and catalan, not only spanish because Catalonia by law as a nationality. Catalonia Statute of autonomy, Preamble: "... In reflection of the feelings and the wishes of the citizens of Catalonia, the Parliament of Catalonia has defined Catalonia as a nation by an ample majority. The Spanish Constitution, in its second Article, recognises the national reality of Catalonia as a nationality..."

http://web.gencat.cat/en/generalitat/estatut/estatut2006/preambul/

The link directs to the official webpage of the government of Catalonia

Here you have also the Spanish Constitution:

Article 2 The Constitution is based on the indissoluble unity of the Spanish nation, the common and indivisible country of all Spaniards; it recognises and guarantees the right to autonomy of the nationalities and regions of which it is composed, and the solidarity amongst them all.

http://www.congreso.es/constitucion/ficheros/c78/cons_ingl.pdf

The link directs to the official webpage of Congress of Deputies of Spain

Catalonia is a nationality not a region, this is recognized in the statute of autonomy of Catalonia and is recognized in the Spanish Constitution. The Catalans we are nationally Catalans because we belong to a nationality officially recognized (Catalonia) and we are Spanish because we belong to a state (Spain).

I do not say that the Catalans are not Spanish, for the moment we are officially Spanish (except the Catalans in France, which are French). I say that our nationality is Catalan (Besides being Spanish) because that recognize the laws, Catalunya by law is a nationality.

Gretings!

ADDENDA In the article dedicated to Antoni Gaudí is fulfilled what the law prescribes and his nationality is Spanish Catalan:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoni_Gaud%C3%AD

All articles corresponding to Catalans should be so, not for being a whim but why Catalonia is officially a nationality recognized by its statute of autonomy and the Spanish constitution and, therefore, the nationality of the Catalans is Spanish and Catalan, not only Spanish.

Further the Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities Adopted by the United Nation General Assembly (resolution 47/135 of 18 December 1992), says:

Article 1 1. States shall protect the existence and the national or ethnic, cultural, religious and linguistic identity of minorities within their respective territories and shall encourage conditions for the promotion of that identity.

The Catalans have all the right to be recognized as such, besides this universal right recognized by the United Nations the Catalans we are part of nationality legally recognized in our statute of autonomy and in the Spanish Constitution. Therefore we have absolutely all the right to be recognized as such and that our identity and nationality not remains hidden behind the only name of "Spanish" (remember that not all Catalans are Spanish, in France there is also Catalans)

For all these reasons well documented and justified I proceed to revert the edition

ADDENDA 2

You follow reversing without regard to reasons and without answering anything here

You say: This is against consensus and simple facts (eg Catalonia is not a nation state)

Ok, because you do not read the arguments???

Against consensus? see you the article about Antoni Gaudi... What consensus? there Gaudi appears as Spanish Catalan.

Against simple facts (eg Catalonia is not a nation state)? Neither it is Scotland but the Scots appear as Scots in articles dedicated to Scottish people. Furthermore, in the case of Catalonia, Catalonia as I told you is recognized as a nationality by law.

Last reverses are for no reason and without reading the arguments in "Talk" or here — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.19.144.48 (talk) 07:46, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

Doubt

I know the player position wikilink contains an hyphen (i.e. Full-back), but is it incorrect to write a player "...plays as a right back" instead of "right-back"?

Attentively, thanks in advance --Be Quiet AL (talk) 18:47, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

I believe it is correct with the hyphen, so we should write centre-back, right-back etc. Mattythewhite (talk) 19:36, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

What is your intake on this? Has only played in the Portuguese Second Division and Lega Pro thus far, if the latter does not "save his bacon" then he must be deleted, no?

Regarding Carles Puyol, we go at it again? I see this IP user is much more polite and articulate than the User:Lauyulam which was an animal (with apologies to animals), but wrong nonetheless no? If it is I that is in the wrong due to new valid reasons being brought into the "mix", then I apologize and anyone please revert me, if not i'll do it myself.

Attentively --Be Quiet AL (talk) 22:13, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

Just saw the same-if-not-worse treatment being inflicted to Jacobo Sanz Ovejero, his brother telling to my "wikiface" in 2012/13 he understood how this worked (in Spanish, I talked to him in Spanish lest there would remain any doubts!) then waiting some years thinking I would forget about article and he could destroy it... Disgusting behaviour! --Be Quiet AL (talk) 01:19, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

Could you please drop a note in the chap (anon) that has been editing in Mr. Puyol's piece? They seem to be using it for quite a while now, so chances are they'll read it. --Be Quiet AL (talk) 18:42, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

Serious

Brother of Jacobo Sanz Ovejero is blazing all guns after a couple of years' rest, anon IP starting with 5.225. (seems to be fairly used, worth noting) AND a recently created account again removed all negative (sourced!) aspects of his career. --Be Quiet AL (talk) 20:35, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

  • He reverted me, and threats with legal action in his talkpage! The fact that he adds "go to TRANSFERMARKT.com to find proper sources" shows us how much he "knows". --Be Quiet AL (talk) 21:43, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

Please don't write to him still lest we have an edit conflict, I am in the process of doing so --Be Quiet AL (talk) 21:52, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

Shouldn't legal threats be reported to AN/I? Robby.is.on (talk) 21:56, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
Per WP:NLT, they should be reported to AN/I or directly to an administrator, the latter of which has taken place. Might be worth posting it at AN/I for another perspective, though. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:58, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

If happened (the edit conflict), but no worries, I copy/pasted and inserted my bit afterwards. Essentially, I told him the following: 1 - All players in the world that have negative incidents in their careers should have that info retrieved to their WP articles, if duly sourced of course; 2 - could he provide sources with the "truth" if he is so kind? 3 - I do not know any Greek, so I am not aware what is reported in those sources, but my Spanish is fine thank you very much, and the newspaper Diario de Avisos clearly states he FOUGHT with his teammate during training, if they are lying then it's not WP's fault. --Be Quiet AL (talk) 22:02, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

If I may comment: I believe the issue is mostly down to the IP editor not understanding that they need to gain consensus. They have listed a bunch of arguments here on the Matty's Talk page which have not be countered (because this is not the right venue, I would assume) and now they seem to think their arguments stand. Regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 16:33, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

I see, but those exact same arguments have been posted rightfully in the article's talkpage. Last time we spoke about this, Matty told me the IP's approach was not correct, that is why I am reverting. I have no respect for separatist agendas (nothing against Catalonia, hopefully the IP understands that), and apparently neither does WP. --Be Quiet AL (talk) 16:39, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

I've started a thread at WT:FOOTY requesting people help monitor the article. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:08, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Looking at Eduardo Berizzo's squad templates, methinks that the O'Higgins stuff is overkill. Is it? Last time I checked, the only club templates that are kept are those of the current squads, no? --Be Quiet AL (talk) 18:57, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

As an editor with over 200,000 edits one would hope you would understand how this place works by now. I am quite aware there is a source supporting an incorrect version of the name. I discussed this in some detail on the article talk page. I know you think a single source trumps what is provided by the source, but the next step is to discuss, not simply revert to your own preferred version.--S Philbrick(Talk) 00:10, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

Heh. You still haven't explained how OR, coming from the subject himself/someone close (potential COI), trumps a RS. Or do you not understand how this place works well enough? Mattythewhite (talk) 00:18, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
There are multiple RS which do not use the incorrect name you prefer. We generally do not accept information from the subject or their legal representatives, but information regarding their own name is a reasonable exception. It is the case that we have one source claiming one thing and another source claiming another, we have the subject telling us his name, dozens of RS supporting that name, and one, mistaken source on the other side.--S Philbrick(Talk) 12:39, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
Getting some proof from the subject would help settle this matter, albeit something like a passport or a birth certificate would be a primary source. Mattythewhite (talk) 14:29, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

MARK WARBURTON was appointed the fifteenth manager of Rangers Football Club on June 15, 2015.

A youth player at Leicester City in the late 1970s, he played under iconic former Ibrox boss Jock Wallace before moving on to play non-league football with Enfield and Boreham Wood.

This was off the Rangers page so get your facts right

That's the first time I've ever been accused of being a Celtic fan, so that's... um... interesting. But I refer to you my above comment, re citing sources. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:15, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Soccerway is a reliable source, but Transfermarkt is not?

What are your standards for a reliable source in soccer stats? I mean I get it if you tell us to only stick to the stats published by an official football club or organization. But I don't get how citing Soccerway is OK, while citing Transfermarkt is not. Bloomberg800 (talk) 18:14, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

Transfermarkt is user-edited, so anyone can sign up and amend their information, which is generally unacceptable per WP:UGC. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:29, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

2016–17 York City F.C. season

Hello Matty, do you intend to expand 2016–17 York City F.C. season to pass WP:GNG or should be it sent to PROD/AfD as York City (sadly) are no longer in the Football League? What to do? Thanks, JMHamo (talk) 13:35, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Hmm, I wasn't intending on working on this season's article out of sheer frustration and disenfranchisement with the club, regardless of the recent spate of deletions of Conference season articles. I wouldn't personally advocate deletion, but neither can I guarantee that I'll work on it... Mattythewhite (talk) 16:26, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Page move...

...if you can assist, I was not able to do it. Article is Álvarinho, and the reasoning to perform the move is the following: his REAL first name carries an accent, indeed, but the short form ("Little Álvaro" in Portuguese) does not; only thing needed is to remove the accent, simple as that :)

The wine has a different name (Alvarinhao), so I'm at a loss as to how my page move has "usurped" it's primary topic status. Mattythewhite (talk) 12:08, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
Oh come on now.
  • Alvarinho is in boldface in the lead sentence of Albariño, as an alternate spelling (not a misspelling). You had to delete a redirect that had stood since October 2004 to complete the move; that's why it was necessary to ask an admin to move it.
  • Alvarinhao redirects to Caíño blanco.
  • If you check Special:WhatLinksHere/Alvarinho, you'll see links intended for the wine grape that are now going to the footballer.
This needs to be cleaned up somehow. wbm1058 (talk) 12:39, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

Carlos Roca edit

I added info from valid websites about Roca's career path and the clubs which he has played for to add more information to the article to provide more information for the public about Roca's career and transfers. The content I added did not vandalise the page nor did it humiliate or offend Roca, neither was it intended to. I do not understand what is wrong with adding more information about a player's club career- which is certainly not incriminating, nor is it vandalism- to a Wikipedia page. Could you please inform me of the mistake I made when updating the article "Paddy McNair"? The info added was from Sunderland's website, and verified by Sunderland themselves, but I have received a message from Wikipedia saying that I may be blocked or something of the sort. I added Sunderland's Official Statement regarding McNair's signing, and added in his SAFC squad number, all from the Sunderland website. Why is this classed as somewhat invalid? You are giving incorrect information have a look at York City FC link it says Luke Simpson is 6ft 2 not 5ft 10. Please stop damaging Simpsons appearance and stop leaving it blank for the games he played at Nantwich Town and find sufficient evidence of how many games played as again it is damaging for Simpson career. XLManny0 (talk) 08:04, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

The Nantwich appearances you are adding are unsourced. It is you who needs to "find sufficient evidence of how many games played", as per WP:BURDEN. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:29, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Stop wrongly editing Luke Simpson's page, if this does not stop with immediate effect I will take this matter further. Luke Simpson is 6ft 2 as shown on York City's official website, as it was already shown on on his page previously but you keep on insisting on wrongly editing his page to make him smaller then he actually is and this will look bad on Simpson as you know so please stop immediately. James Milner "citation needed" explosion

Mattythewhite, I had just noticed this evening that a long-outstanding Good Article Reassessment was open on this article, dating back to June 2015. When I took a look at the article to see whether the issues might still apply—they could easily have been fixed in the interim—I was aghast at the sheer number of "citation needed" tags; it seemed impossible that the article could possibly be considered a good article and be so deficient.

Then I took a closer look. Back on April 22 of this year, in a single massive edit, you added dozens upon dozens of "citation needed" templates, so that just about every sentence that did not have an actual citation had a template. The problem: in many cases, citations were not needed.

If three sentences are covered by one source, then the MOS makes clear that having the source citation at the end of the last of these sentences is perfectly fine (exception: if a quote appeared in one of the earlier sentences, or if an especially controversial fact was presented). In fact, it makes the article easier to read if citations don't appear constantly. I've just edited the "Early life" section of this article, updating a couple of URLs that were out of date, deleting five "citation needed" templates, and finding a source for the sixth. (I've also found a source in the next section where a citation was indeed needed.)

I think you ought to go through, check, and remove the remaining unnecessary "citation needed" templates. (I've spent far more time on it than I planned, and can't afford any more at present.) As it stands, I don't see how the article can retain its Good Article listing with so much apparently missing sourcing—what you've done is effectively label the article as badly sourced and unverifiable. It may be that these is serious underciting here, but based on what I found, the odds are it's not as bad as it seems. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:44, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Yes. It is oversimplified. I've seen these tables often removed as WP:LISTCRUFT. If article about Paris would have this kind of table it would also have a line  Nazi Germany 1940-1944. Mark Tyler

Hi Matty. I added 1 league appearance to Mark Tyler in the 1994/1995 season. Been a lot of talk recently about how many games he's played with 500 approaching. It seems the figure on Wikipedia omits a 73 minute substitute appearance against Bradford on 14/01/95 - http://www.uptheposh.com/matches/672/

That match is actually mentioned in the text with a source ( ref [8] ). So effectively the citation already exists, but the table is incorrect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kengandhi (talkcontribs) 18:01, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

Other than that it's fully comprehensive. Soccerbase, for example, includes the sub appearance but omits 18 (from Ismithian, FA Cup Qualifiers and FA Trophy games)

This has been reverted, so I've done some fact checking against www.uptheposh.com (which is the best source for Peterborough United appearances) and found 2 differences. A league trophy match in 96/97 and a league match in 00/01. I have updated accordingly, citing the source

Everton squad

Hi,

Could you pop over to the Everton F.C. page and possibly provide a third opinion on the issue of whether players without a squad number should be listed as in the first team or on the reserves/academy page. I've posted a similar question on the talk page but had no other input as yet. An IP editor insists on listing them in the reserves despite both the official club website listing them in the first team, and the WP:FOOTBALL MOS for Club pages stating that they should be included if they have previously played for the first team in the current spell at the club. The other editor involved is: User:220.241.108.114 (talk). I've also posted on his talk page but have had no reply.

(I'm not sure of the process for requesting dispute resolution through the "proper" channels, and I noticed you'd edited the article recently, and you're an admin, hence why im asking you for assistance).
