Speedy deletion of Relationship pleasure scale

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Relationship pleasure scale, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Omarcheeseboro (talk) 13:02, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Relationship pleasure scale, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Omarcheeseboro (talk) 13:25, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:CDR logo.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:CDR logo.jpeg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 15:05, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re Category:Descendants of Rabbi Meir Katzenellenbogen

[edit]

I see you have been adding multiple individuals to this category. Can I ask what source you are using to justify this? AndyTheGrump (talk) 06:16, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Andy. The primary source is Neil Rosenstein's book, The Unbroken Chain, Volumes 1 & 2. It's referenced in List of Notable Descendants of Meir Katzenellenbogen. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. I'm fairly new to editing on Wikipedia and very much appreciate guidance. MerlinsMagic (talk) 06:27, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Andy, the source is 100% strong. If you'd like me to email, sms or fax you the actual family lineage, let me know and I'll be happy to do so. Please do not revert the edits. I'm working very diligently to contribute to Wikipedia and would appreciate knowing that you don't undo the contributions I've made without checking first. Thank you again and much appreciation. MerlinsMagic (talk) 06:32, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but without evidence that Neal Rosenstein's genealogy is accepted as a reliable source by others in the field - which would necessarily be historians of academic credibility - I can't really see how his work can be used as a source. I can find but a single reference to Rosenstein via Google scholar for example - and that is to his book. It is of course possible that the individuals you have included in the category are indeed descended from Rabbi Katzenellenbogen - but we will need evidence from other credible sources that Rosenstein's genealogy is accepted as valid before we can justify the category. Do you have any links to reviews of Rosenstein's work in academic journals for example? From the NYT review of the book [1] - which seems to suggest that Rosenstein claims to have traced the Katzenellenbogen line back to Adam himself - one has to ask whether this is properly-founded historical research, or speculation. If it is the latter, it doesn't belong in Wikipedia. AndyTheGrump (talk) 06:49, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the review in NYT: http://www.tali.com/neilr/UBC_NYT.html.

And the listing on google books: http://books.google.com/books/about/The_unbroken_chain.html?id=lGpmAAAAMAAJ

Also, here's an article about Rabbi Meir's father from Wikipedia, which also references the NYT Magazine of Rosenstein's book. Saul Wahl. I trust you agree the graphic from the NYT Magazine feature pretty much tells the story, less a few thousand others. MerlinsMagic (talk) 07:04, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MerlinsMagic (talk) 07:00, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here's another NYT review: Dan Rottenberg, “Finding our Fathers,” The New York Times, May 2, 1977. MerlinsMagic (talk) 07:25, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's actually from New York Magazine and should read: Dan Rottenberg, “Finding our Fathers,” New York Magazine, May 2, 1977. MerlinsMagic (talk) 07:27, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Andy, before saying things like I'm "citing no source whatsoever," please see cited sources. Here's a list including the book, NYTimes, New York Magazine, and a respected genealogist. Is there something else you're looking for? It's hard for me to understand why you make such harsh statements without knowing what you're talking about in this case. I so much appreciate everyone who works hard to contribute to Wikipedia. I don't think it's good to chase away new contributors by putting statements out there that are inaccurate. Unless that's the goal.

MerlinsMagic (talk) 07:43, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but you are making historical claims relating to multiple notable individuals, based on a single source for which I can see little evidence for any recognised academic credibility - which is the standard required for such material, see Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources (history). I suggest that you look for any material to establish such credibility (academic reviews, evidence that Rosenstein's genealogy has been cited in academic works, etc) and then raise the matter at the Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard, where we can get input from others - there is little point in just the two of us debating the question, and others may have further information. AndyTheGrump (talk) 15:29, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Andy. I appreciate your perspective, expertise and guidance. I thought I had provided what you requested through the New York Times, New York Magazine and other sources. I'm grateful for the chance to have others help us sort through this. As a relative newcomer, how do we get that process moving forward? Your help would be appreciated. Thank you again. MerlinsMagic (talk) 16:24, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As I said above, we'd need evidence from academic historians or similar to establish the reliability of Rosenstein on a matter like this - and a search on 'Google scholar' at least suggests that there may not be any such material. Thinking about this further though, I have to ask whether being a descendent of Rabbi Katzenellenbogen is notable (by Wikipedia standards) anyway? As was pointed out during a recent discussion over a category (now deleted) of descendants of Charlemagne (see [2]) the consensus seems to be that 'descent' categories are of little encyclopaedic note, even for the most notable individuals - 'Category:Descendants of Queen Victoria' for example was deleted - and furthermore, the further one goes back in time, if an individual has left any living descendants at all, it becomes statistically more likely that everyone from the same community/ethnicity now living will be descended from them, via one line or another - and a category that included say most individuals of Ashkenazi Jewish descent would be of little merit. On this basis, even if Rosenstein's work is accepted as a reliable source, there seems little chance that the category will be seen as suitable for Wikipedia. AndyTheGrump (talk) 16:57, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you again. I trust your experience and that you've got a better sense of what fits for Wikipedia. For me, the fascinating part of this that I believe makes it worth sharing is the connection between so many notable, yet very distinct pursuits in business, religion, government, etc. that trace back directly to the same source. As mentioned above, I'd appreciate knowing more about the process of getting others involved in the discussion. I'm sure it will help me better understand how to contribute my time and expertise and also advance the shared vision for Wikipedia. I'd appreciate further guidance on process and any specific suggestions/recommendations you have. MerlinsMagic (talk) 17:06, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As I've suggested, asking whether Rosenstein's work meets our requirements on the Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard might be the way to start - assuming that you have already read Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources (history), and still think it is worth trying. Frankly though, given my doubts regarding whether the category itself meets our notability standards, the question may be moot. I'm not at this point going to propose that the category be deleted, but I'd suggest that precedent suggests that it has little hope of remaining if such a deletion is proposed. Genealogy is a fascinating subject, but that doesn't make every genealogical fact necessarily noteworthy. As noted above, it seems statistically almost certain that any living individual of European descent (which would include me) is a descendant of Charlemagne, and I've seen the same suggested (perhaps less intuitively) regarding the prophet Mohammed - that most living Europeans are very likely descended from him too, via one line or another. As for whether I'm also descended from Rabbi Katzenellenbogen, I've no idea, but it doesn't seem that improbable, on similar statistical grounds. Ultimately, if one goes back far enough, one can trace (via genetics rather than genealogy) everyone to single individuals on the direct matrilineal line and the direct patrilineal one - and a category of say 'descendants of Mitochondrial Eve' would be rather pointless. AndyTheGrump (talk) 17:29, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Andy. Based on your helpful guidance, I've reviewed the WP discussions, guidelines and further researched the primary source material (Rosenstein's "The Unbroken Chain." I've included the key information at Talk:List_of_Notable_Descendants_of_Meir_Katzenellenbogen. I'd appreciate you having a look at it and letting me know if you have further guidance or helpful suggestions. Thank you. MerlinsMagic (talk) 19:56, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello! Thank you for your recent contributions to The Pride Center at Equality Park. I did have one note for you. I am working on a maintenance project to clean up Category:Pages using infoboxes with thumbnail images. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks!! File permission problem with File:Stephanie Berman-Eisenberg.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Stephanie Berman-Eisenberg.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ~ Rob13Talk 04:15, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:MerlinsMagic. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=MerlinsMagic|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. numerous homeless/veteran organizations. Graywalls (talk) 02:36, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Graywalls. I do not nor have I ever received compensation or any type of inducement for my contributions to Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MerlinsMagic (talkcontribs) 21:11, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

thank you for clarifying you are not getting compensation specifically for editing Wikipedia. Do you happen to have professional relationship with anything you have edited? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Graywalls (talkcontribs) 06:19, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

July 2023

[edit]

The Wikipedia namespace is not the main space of the encyclopedia and not an appropriate place to move your content as you did here. The articles for creation process exists for a good reason, and allows newer and less experienced editors to work on content and get feedback. Please make use of it. Melcous (talk) 10:37, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Done, how do I get feedback to prepare the article for main space? Thank you. MerlinsMagic (talk) 10:39, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Articles for creation explains the process, including how to submit for review. Thanks Melcous (talk) 10:41, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, MerlinsMagic. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Lori Heyman Gordon, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. It appears you have a connection with PAIRS FOUNDATION in one way or another, and the article you're contemplating to move into main space is highly interrelated to PAIRS. Blocked

[edit]

Ok, enough. There's been a long term problem here with constant creation and re-creation of promotional material for a specific organization and associated individuals. The latest attempts were so far over the line that there's just no other option than to disable this account. Unless you're willing to provide some transparency on your blatantly obvious COI and/or WP:PAID situation, I don't see a path forward. You've been warned way too many times and repeated the disruptive behavior. Sam Kuru (talk) 15:12, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
