Goldom's RFA thanks

[edit]
Thank you for your support on my RFA, which closed successfully this morning with a result of (53/2/1). I've spent the day trying out the new tools, and trying not to mess things up too badly :). I was quite thrilled with all the support, both from the people I see around every day, as well as many users who I didn't know from before, yet wrote such wonderful things about me. I look forward to helping to serve all of you, and the project. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with. -Goldom ‽‽‽ 04:27, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Cole

[edit]

You quickly and without sufficient reason took down my addition to Cole's page and even labeled it as a potential "attack". I do not see where the attack could possibly be in my factual addition, however I respect your opinion and mean no disrespect, I do ask that you please revert back my edit or at least allow me to revert it back myself. I thank you for reading this and hope you will reconsider. God Bless.

Thanks

[1] How'd you know it was really me? I thought my writing style might give it away... :) --172.193.206.104 05:06, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You know, it's funny: None of the IPs I've been using have an contribs whatsoever before I use them, and my IP doesn't change when I load pages. Maybe it's 'cuz I'm using Firefox. Ah... Another reason to love the Fox. ;) --172.193.206.104 05:10, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just realized something... That anon who keeps vandalizing my page- this guy-It's him! The one who I've been having problems with! He's logging out and blasting me, as an anon! Even though he thinks I should register! Gah! ...I'm sorry, but can I ask you to help? I'm not supposed to be online now as it is, and I can't get on at all tomorrow. If it's a problem, I'll wait until I get the chance and take care of it myself, but if it's not too much trouble... Could you find some way to get this sorted out? --172.193.206.104 05:17, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Positive. If you check his talk page history, you'll see he's been reverting my messages. And the IP that's vandalising my page just so happens to be Singapore's IP. He's ignoring me, changing my page (he did it under his username as well), and basically trying to get anons out. I'm 100% sure. --172.193.206.104 05:22, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. It's a really complicated thing (he and I have 'met), and I'll have to sort out a lot of it myself when I get the time. I'm the only one who noticed quite a few shady things he's been up to, and It'll take me a while to bump around and gather the links I need. Again, thanks! Happy editing! --172.193.206.104 05:24, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

subst v. comment tags

[edit]

This was discussed several times before at template talk and elsewhere (don't remember). There's a good reason why those things ought not be substed - can't remember which. Besides, it's the same amount of work to subst it or to add a comment tag to it, both with AWB. Finally, I am not asking admins per se - just my friend Yanksox per prior discussion. Thanks for your concern. - CrazyRussian talk/email 05:38, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

August Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Blocked

[edit]

I've blocked you indefinitely pending an explanation regarding the operation of additional accounts in violation of WP:SOCK. Note that this is not presently a ban. Mackensen (talk) 01:55, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock|HUUUGE misunderstanding. I was on vacation the past week, and I was using a shared computer. I know this is a common excuse, but please, surely you know I would never do something like use sockpuppets. I hope you understand...}} --Mr. Lefty Talk to me! 01:57, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In that case I have no choice but to believe that your account has been compromised, because I can identify two socks which edited within twenty minutes of your account, on the same computer, with overlapping edits. Mackensen (talk) 02:00, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, shoot. I will change my password posthaste and do whatever is necessary. You can easily see that I am not a vandal, though. --Mr. Lefty Talk to me! 02:02, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Can I please be unblocked? I've changed my password and everything...no clue what could have happened, though. --Mr. Lefty Talk to me! 02:05, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My concern is the activity of these accounts which remain unexplained. In particular, you seem to have been around all of August 8th, when five accounts vandalized from your computer and were blocked indefinitely. This troubles me. Mackensen (talk) 02:13, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm prepared to accept your explanation, as it does fit, to extent, the data I've got in front of me. I'm prepared to unblock pending your response to the email I've just sent. Mackensen (talk) 02:19, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've replied to you. Hopefully that's good enough... --Mr. Lefty Talk to me! 02:26, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I was around August 8th, but I was using the computer off and on. I don't know what exactly it is that these socks did, but I can assure you I am not their puppetmaster. I will remind you that I was using a computer that other people were using, so that could be the problem. I really don't know what else to do.... --Mr. Lefty Talk to me! 02:17, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your prompt response. I'm satisfied that everything is actually in order, and have unblocked you. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Best, and happy editing, Mackensen (talk) 02:27, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mr. Lefty!

On Kpjas' RFA, you have voted oppose based on his apparent lack of experience, ("if he plans to do vandal-fighting and deletions, then I'd like him to have more experience in those particular areas. Sorry."). In fact, Kpjas is already an admin on the Polish Wikipedia, and has 37,000 edits there, including 2,600 to WP space over there. You have opposed based on inexperience, but these facts clearly indicate plenty of experience in the required areas. Mr. Lefty, you want an experienced editor for admin. Kpjas is clearly experienced. Without badgering you, I urge you to reconsider your vote in this particular RfA. Happy editing! :) --Firsfron of Ronchester 22:59, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Lefty,
Thanks for your note. I think I will leave a note on the RfA itself somewhere (not sure where just yet). I'm still scratching my head at why this wasn't mentioned in the nomination; you have to dig to find this info. Anyway, I appreciate that you switched your !vote, and appreciate your note on my page. Take care, Firsfron of Ronchester 23:13, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sock accusations

[edit]

On Subash bose's ANI [2] I noticed some Muslim users have accused me of being a sock of Subhash bose (aka Netaji). These users are merely trying to hit two birds with one stone: They are trying to get two Hindus banned with "incriminating evidence". Geek1975 has vandalized pages relating to a terror attack orchestrated by Muslims, and Netscott vandalized my comments on his userpage. The reason I am more active now is because I was on wikibreak for three days. I take Geek's false accusations as personal attacks and have warned him.

The infobox

[edit]

I didn't know about the previous redirect thing. What about a disambiguation page? Or a stub that that reads "This article is about infoboxes, for information regarding wikipedia infoboxes go to:" I just ran a google search, and the first result for infobox is the wikipedia infobox. I have my doubts such a stub would ever grow into a full article. Whichever way it's done, infobox should provide some link to Wikipedia:infobox. This has been the case with practically all wikipedia-related terms, and keeping that rule consistent would make it easier to navigate it. -NorsemanII 03:08, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Infoboxes using MediaWiki

[edit]

Hi Mr. Lefty, I'm trying to get a simple Infobox to work on an external MediaWiki site that I'm setting up. For some reason, even the simplest code that works in Wikipedia does not work on my site. Do you think it has anything to do with the "class="infobox"" that appears in the top of the infobox? Do I need to add something to one of my CSS? Here is a link to the broken infobox: https://heritage.web.lehigh.edu/wiki_old/index.php/James_Ward_Packard

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I already left information on where I obtained the picture. You deleted the information when you added your non-sourced tag. I also added a direct link to the picture. It's a promotional picture and a lot of pages use myspace pictures as a source for photos. -Myxomatosis 01:43, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
