How very nice to finally meet someone who knows about WorldCat & how to use it here. And I like your essay. If you;re ever in NYC... DGG ( talk ) 18:51, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I appreciate it. We may be slightly on different sides of deletionist/inclusionist camps at times, but on so many big cases we have the same thinking. I find Worldcat especially useful for humanists on easy cases. Would love to have coffee or a drink sometime in NYC. Same if you're in Boston. -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 04:25, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Chulalongkorn

[edit]

Funny thing is, when I saw the title my first thought was Thai street food, and it does look a lot like what I saw in Bangkok suburbs last year. It would be even funnier if someone saw the article and decided to create it, so it became a thing. Is that post-post-modern or what? Antandrus (talk) 23:50, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ha yes. I should've userfied it before nominating it for AfD. Or someday become an admin so I can gaze on that beautiful nacho-caramel-covered-corn forever. I did send a note through the student to the teacher on how to effectively use errors and omissions on Wikipedia as teaching moments that are more effective than simply making hoax articles. -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 17:58, 12 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The 78.26 RFA Appreciation award
Thank you for the participation and support at my RFA. It is truly appreciated. I hope to be of further help around here, and if you see me doing something dumb, you know where to find me. Again, I thank you. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 00:04, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Congrats on the successful RfA @78.26:! Thanks for being willing to volunteer. Let's get more people through the process. Best, -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 21:56, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited David Fallows, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Continuo. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

RFC on RfA reform

[edit]

I wanted to say how great it was to get to know many thoughtful editors I didn't know before through the RfA reform discussion, especially @Biblioworm: @Esquivalience: @C678: and @Beeblebrox:. We didn't all agree on what we wanted but they did a great job keeping the process fair all the way. -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 21:08, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you.—cyberpowerChat:Online 21:09, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, thanks. It's also nice to see that we actually got consensus for some changes to RFA. Hopefully they will have the desired effect. Beeblebrox (talk) 00:25, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I sometimes feel like getting consensus to do any change in WP is a move in the right direction just to combat stasis. Doing a good and needed change is even more important. It might just be a step for now, but it might start a larger ball rolling. -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 02:27, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if the next thing should be working to remove this line from the Miniguide: "Please be aware RfA is often a harsh, even brutal process. People will look at, and likely criticize, everything and anything you have done (or not done)." -- this seems so against WP:CIVILITY and WP:AGF (the first of which is a pillar; above whatever RfA is) that it can't be something we should tolerate. :-) -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 02:45, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted

[edit]

Hi Mscuthbert/archive06. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Biblioworm 05:14, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Biblioworm! -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 19:13, 2 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

About Translation

[edit]

Hi. I traslated G. I. Taylor from English to Turkish but I couldn't add new language. It says "No input methods are available for this language.". How can I fix it?

I'm not sure how to fix that. Can you post here the link to the Turkish article; then I'll add it to Wikidata. -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 20:20, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It is not format of link, but I can copy paste the Turkish article.

Unfortunately, that's not helpful. I need to be able to put in the link URL -- can you just paste in the URL? Thanks! Btw when posting on Wikipedia, it's important to put your signature in, usually by putting in four ~ signs at the end. Best, -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 21:10, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kategori:Vikipedi_Alarise When you publish it, can you give me the URL? thanksAlarise (talk) 21:46, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Aha. you'll need to have an account on the Turkish Wikipedia [1] and then create it there. There's a separate Wikipedia for each language; someone there can probably help you with that. Then when it's created there, you'll be able to put the inter-language links in or I can help with that. Thanks! -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 21:54, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dave Higgins

[edit]

Hello I've received a message about me editing the Dave Higgins page.i am a personal friend of Dave and thought it would be nice to have this achievement on his page.I took part in this event and could prove this is true I'm new to editing so don't really understand the rules. I have links to the GWR page if this helps. Is there any way I can message you direct as I can't paste on here. Thanks Emkay22 (talk) 23:08, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Emkay22: -- I think it seems like a great achievement and I'd be glad to have it on the Dave Higgins page. However, there needs to be some sort of coverage that is cited -- was it covered in a local paper or on the Guinness website or something of that sort? A claim that there's a world record needs to have a citation for it. Let me know if I can help in getting the citation in. Best, -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 01:49, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Prof. Martin Vogel in Bonn

[edit]

I am going through old drafts to find anything salvageable. Would you mind taking a look at Draft:Martin Vogel, please? (It appears to be based more or less on the German Wp page, BTW.) I have found a festschrift published in is honour and a number of reviews of his publications at JSTOR, but I would expect there to be an obituary or two out there somewhere.

There is also this: Draft:Vogel's Tonnetz. --Hegvald (talk) 06:29, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the Vogel article is very salvageable -- the subject is undeniably notable given the Festschrift. All it needs is to add the reference to the Festschrift and a reference to some biography somewhere -- if we could get the FAZ obit, that would be enough. Usually Festschriften begin with a biographical sketch of the dedicatee. We don't have it at MIT, but I'll be meeting someone at Harvard for lunch on Friday so I'll try to get over to their library that day and look through it. He's not in NG and I don't have access to MGG online here to see if he made MGG2's Personenteil. If it can wait until the weekend, I should be able to help with this.
The Tonnetz article looks good to go up to me. Would you like me to move it to article space? Best, -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 14:11, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I accepted the Tonnetz article. You might look at the categorizing and such.
It troubles me that some of these old undeservedly declined drafts risk getting deleted if nobody bothers taking a second look. You may want to look at Draft:Daniel Cook as well. Not a musicologist but a musician. --Hegvald (talk) 14:33, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No worries @He Who is Anonymous: -- why don't we put it as a documented nickname -- it can still go into the first paragraph, but just not as part of his name. (There are a very few exceptions where nicknames become the main name, such as Babe Ruth or Weird Al Yankovich, but I don't think that this is at that level yet. -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 23:33, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Shart Page

[edit]

I would like to know how adding the wikitionary link on the Shart page is not constructive. It said not to write the dictionary definition. I did not do that, I instead linked it to the wikitionary page, which seems like a constructive thing to do, because it shows that yes, there is a Slang term for it, without completely ignoring that fact, which is more likely to lead to vandalism. Anyway, I am reverting your revert, and I would like it, if you did not revert it back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Basetornado (talkcontribs) 13:53, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks -- the first two are good sources; if you add the information back to the Howard Stern article with those two as references, it will stay and not be reverted. If you need help doing that, please let me know. A reversion for lack of sources does not mean that I don't believe it's true, it's that the encyclopedia needs proof against someone who disbelieves it. -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 15:28, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Puncti divisiones" is incorrect Latin. It is just impossible. If you insist that "the plural is most commonly used", then please post a citation. I revert it so far to 'punctus divisionis' according to Johannes de Muris (who used the term, not Marchetto), but if you find "puncti divisiones", you are welcome.
