Recently reverted edit on Mulan (2020 film) article

Hello,

I saw that you reverted my edit, and I was shocked when I read the edit summary, which stated: Rv draftify without consensus, removing AfD template before closing.

It was shocking because I did not intentionally do either of those things, (something I can't emphasize enough!) Please rest assured that, like yourself, I only want to make Wikipedia a better place, and would never do anything like that.

The only portion of that edit that I meant to do was to add the word indefinitely, to match the referenced text in the body of the article, as I put in my edit summary. Anything beyond that was pure collateral damage done by the Visual Editor, which I will henceforth endeavor to use much less as a direct result of this incident. My only possible mistake – and if it did happen, it was a mistake – would be accidentally saving the edit without previewing, because I do know that the Visual Editor can have precisely these kinds of unintended side effects. Needless to say, I apologize for that mistake.

I have one small favor to ask: now that you know the full reasoning behind the edit, can you please restore the intended portion of the edit? :)

Best regards, 1980fast (talk) 21:06, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

I was actually trying to revert the three consecutive changes that user CHASE1979 made, as he was the one who inexplicably draftified, recategorized and renamed the article without any sort of consensus, which is strongly against Wikipedia policy. It also states in the AfD template that was clearly on atop the page that users should not remove the warning on the page before the official closure of the AfD discussion, which he did anyways. Given all these changes, I found the restore function to be the most convenient way to restore the article back to its original version, and I guess your edit was just caught up in it. Rest assured that you were not the one who made the mistake, I was just trying to clean up the mess that the other user had left. Anyways, I went ahead and added the word "indefinitely" to the end of the lead per your request. Cheers, ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 21:41, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

HDI of Taiwan

The HDI figure by UNDP is not accurate. The UN subnational HDI is not appropriate for Taiwan as they did not collect the accurate data, the stats are usually very old; they collected the data provided by China, which does not exert control over Taiwan. Taiwanese government's HDI (0.911) is more accurate. You can see the methodology here (same methodology as UNDP). https://www.dgbas.gov.tw/public/Data/02416246DBUFBVDH.pdf — Preceding unsigned comment added by Greysholic (talkcontribs) 06:06, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Sorry, all articles on Wikipedia use the data given by the UNDP for the HDI values. The reason why the value appeared to have decreased significantly as compared to last year (From 0.907 in the 2018 report to 0.88 in the 2019 one) is because the UNDP only began calculating the HDI for Taiwan in 2019. Wikipedia only used the data given by the Taiwanese government prior to last year as that was the only data available. You see that since the UNDP is the agency that actually created the HDI index, the data provided by them are in all cases are generally the preferred one, as compared to the values that the government provides. People that are strongly connected to a certain topic will always try to make themselves seem more favorable than reality, and the HDI that Taiwan has apparently calculated themselves are by no means any exception. That is precisely why we tend to trust third-party sources that are independent of the actual subject. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 06:32, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Your revert notice on the page for Ottawa was incredibly rude.

Seriously, mocking me for not knowing the actual distance of Ottawa to two other cities? And it wasn't even "vandalism", it was me trying my best to explain and calculate the distances.

No it wasn't rude. It was just a mere observation of the duck test. The same exact type of edits were made by user Casper Anand on Windsor, Ontario; Kingston, Ontario; Cornwall, Ontario; Quebec City; and Gatineau just two days ago. These were all removed by Magnolia677 who stated that these additions are not an improvement and creates an travel guide-like tone that is not the goal of Wikipedia. With this very short time frame and exact identical sort of edits, are you telling me that you have zero connection with that user? ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 18:59, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

regarding Mitsutomo Yuasa

HI - not sure what is going with the Draft:Mitsutomo Yuasa / Mitsutomo Yuasa edits. Were they deleted? why? I'm In process of adding additional information. Since the Mitsutomo Yuasa is a noted scholar from Kobe university, there's not a great deal in the English language associated with Yuasa. Hopefully folks more fluent in Chinese and Japanese can add information ... I am very puzzled by the immediate deletion. Mitsutomo Yuasa should at most be tagged as stub page. Please revert it to a Stub page, Thanks Emoritz2017 (talk) 03:25, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

I moved your page into draftspace as it contained zero reliable sources. If you are still working to improve the article with additional information and sources, that should be done while the page is still in draftspace. Once you have completed EVERYTHING and you believe that the page meets Wikipedia guidelines and standards for notability, then it can be submitted for review to enter mainspace. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 04:19, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
thank you! As to notability, I came across Yuasa reading Chaomei Chen' "The Gathering Storm." In Turning Points, pp. 1-20. Springer, Berlin, Heidelberg, 2011. Chen, a noted Drexel university professor spends a great deal of text space discussing Yuasa contributions; interestingly. if you look at Google Scholar https://scholar.google.com/scholar?cites=10101912626992799819&as_sdt=5,39&sciodt=0,39&hl=en Yuasa, you see 33 citations to Yuasa's book. Sadly for me, I cannot read the Chinese or Japanese texts. Yuasa is also often mentioned together with [J._D._Bernal] as leaders in tracing emergence of science. In fact, in looking this up I am noticing that Yuasa received the Bernal prize - "Bernal is regarded as the founding father of the science of science (Price, 1964). Since 1981, to honor Bernal and his pioneering work in the science of science, the Society for Social Studies of Science (4S) awards the Bernal Prize annually to scholars who have made a distinguished contri- bution to the field. In fact, the thoughts of many famous scholars can be traced back to the influ- ence of, or inspiration by, Bernal. The list of such scholars includes the economist Christopher Freeman; the historian and physicist Mintomo Yuasa; and the biochemist, historian, and sinologist Joseph Needham. In particular, Derek de Solla Price, who was the first recipient of the Bernal Award, noted in his acceptance speech that his work in scientometrics1 was partly inspired by Bernal. Furthermore, Eugene Garfield ascertained that Bernal also helped prepare his mind for the sensitivity that led him to the field of scientific information retrieval and its milestone-like byproduct the Science Citation Index (SCI) (Garfield, 2007)." [1] - A search on Bernal and Yuasa in Google Scholar brings up over 800 results.[2] So clearly Yuasa is notable. I will be working to contact some folks fluent in Japanese, and hopefully connect with someone at Kobe University who could provide more substantive details. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Emoritz2017 (talkcontribs) 13:37, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I’m a user (who has no Wikipedia account) but would like to know about why this page is being considered for deletion. I’m sure you can merge it with the existing article, or delete the old article. The thing is, I can’t edit that page as it is semi-protected and non-account users cannot edit such pages. The article List of cities in Australia is unrelated, outdated and does/does not include places needed on their, even when it was first created. Please help. I moved your post down here as all new entries should be placed below older ones, as it states in the notice at the top of the page. Now regards to your questions, I nominated your draft for deletion as Wikipedia does not allow articles on duplicate topics to exist at the same time. Deleting the original article is not really reasonable, so one thing I can suggest for you to do is go to Talk:List of cities in Australia and create a new section listing out all your proposed changes and the sources used to back up your claims, if necessary. If an consensus is reached, then the article can be changed. But creating entirely new articles that duplicates existing topics is not an appropriate method to update content. Also, please limit your entries to discussing Wikipedia-related content only. Thank you, ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 06:11, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Information icon Hello Nkon21. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that there is consensus that we shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1) and/or content (CSD A3) moments after they are created, as you did at English Kannada words. It's usually best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), patent nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course still be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks. None of the sources presented in the article at the moment are reliable. Facebook and IMDb are merely just user-generated content which are not permitted as sources on Wikipedia. The Tarane Music source looks like a primary source to me, but since it's in Persian, I'm not sure. Please explain the relationship the subject has with the website, if there is any. The Cannes source however, is not all that reliable either. A source that simply lists a single project that the composer has worked in the past without any other additional information makes it an unreliable source as well. Please see WP:INTREF4 to better understand what Wikipedia is looking for in terms of quality sources. These are required in new articles in order to adequately verify the notability of the subject. Confused about Misfit Wearables removal.

Pretty much the subject line. I saw you just removed my addition of the most recent smartwatch models to the company page for having a "biased perspective", and I don't really understand why that would be the case, so if you could explain what I did wrong more clearly I'd really appreciate it. I realize I hadn't gotten my references in there yet (was working on it right before it all got removed), but everything I wrote came straight from reputable sources including Misfit themselves and various professional hardware analysis & reviews, and I really don't feel like the voice was biased for or against them. In addition to describing the various hardware changes to the different watches themselves, and their effects, in what I felt was a straight & factual tone, I explicitly stated the problems (some major, like the Vapor 2 launching w/ an ancient SOC or the Vapor X having just 512MB of RAM) reviewers and consumers had with them. If I was intentionally trying to write from a biased, "pro-Misfit" perspective I definitely wouldn't have included such details. Though despite those issues, I wasn't trying to be biased in saying that the watches were generally well received by the tech press/consumers, and the references would have backed that up. They both got relatively good reviews. Anyways, thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing back from you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cooe (talkcontribs) 02:53, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi, per WP:NPOV, I reverted your edits as it came off too promotional to be deemed encyclopedic for inclusion on Wikipedia. As you said that your information also came from Misfit themselves, I would also like to point out that using primary sources on Wikipedia is looked down upon. It is preferable to use independent and secondary sources to support information in order to ensure a bias-free and neutral tone, as primary sources are inevitably biased towards themselves and is deemed unreliable. As you said you were in the process of adding references, can you provide them so I can take a look? Thanks. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 03:09, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

The only info I was sourcing from Misfit themselves was simply raw technical specs, because I felt like that would have been the most authoritative source for such info, but I can source that from somewhere else if you'd prefer / that's actually the expected protocol. That same information is easily available elsewhere. And here are some of the sources I was planning to reference. Nothing I said isn't said about the Vapor X for example wasn't in some form among these. https://www.digitaltrends.com/smartwatch-reviews/misfit-vapor-x-review/ https://www.digitaltrends.com/wearables/qualcomm-snapdragon-3100-news/ https://9to5google.com/2019/09/20/misfit-vapor-x-review/ https://www.techradar.com/reviews/misfit-vapor-x And I have similar sources for the Vapor 2 information. I personally didn't really feel like the tone of my writing was any more promotional than the existing section for the older Vapor watch. Though I could have removed the "consumers" part as referencing Amazon reviews might be a bit much, but the tech press did generally think they were good watches. Just with some very notable flaws (which I made sure to explicitly explain). And to just not talk about the watches' reception at all seems to be an even worse extreme. Cooe (talk) 06:57, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

Okay, thank you for explaining your thought processes. Those sources look good to me, just make sure to add references to each specific instance of content for adequate support. Cheers, ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 20:39, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

Vandal that was warned

Hi, I just wanted to give a briefing about a user you warned yesterday known as The anonymous gal (and was later blocked indefinitely by Widr). The anonymous gal in real life is my niece and I introduced her to Wikipedia last year. I knew she had created an account as well as the name she goes by on the Wiki, however I was unaware that she was using it for personal fiction and sexual arousal; and I only found out when the IP address had been completely blocked because of her actions. My niece is a macrophile, meaning she is sexually attracted to people that either have an exceptional stature or are at a supernatural size, specifically giants. About the images my niece uploaded to the Wiki, I have searched through their origins. The images depicting various female celebrities had already been deleted due to copyright infringement and I found their source. I have also found the sources to the CGI fetish images and gifs which come from fetish videos made by the same person. As for the three images of a woman portrayed as a giantess (one of her in a black sleeveless dress showing her face and two presenting her legs and feet), these were photoshopped with men who were tiny in comparison and I am still in the process of finding where my niece got these images from. And finally, for the image of a girl wearing leggings photographed from behind, my niece mistakenly added the image to the page leggings using my account, before doing further edits with her account. I am also still finding out where he obtained this from too. I myself had no personal involvement in all of this and I apologise on behalf of my niece for the vandalism she has published; I strive to make the Wiki a better place. Best. New page reviewer granted

Hi Nkon21. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. signed, Rosguill talk 19:15, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

First question I have is what exactly is wrong with you? Secondly, why my very useful edit was reverted? and last but not least, are you a part of defending the system at all costs thing? If not, what exactly about letting people know that a college is removing people without any prior discussions is so outrageous to you?! https://www.critic.co.nz/news/article/8982/abbey-college-residents-told-to-leave-in-november

Stop adding unencyclopedic content the article like you did with this: "They’re not mad, just disappointed .. Abbey College Residents Told to Leave in November". Wikipedia is not the place for news reporting per WP:NOTNEWS or short-term notices like "the school will be closed for renovations during the summer" or what not. Simple, if you continue your disruptive behavior you will be blocked from editing. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 08:58, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

Page mover granted

Hello, Nkon21. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! Anarchyte (talkwork) 12:25, 12 September 2020 (UTC)

What's not neutral about it?

Our movement is named Pride. This airline is the flag carrier of a country that hates us yet they use our movement name in the slogan. That's all objective facts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.27.41.58 (talk) 01:40, 13 September 2020 (UTC)

Flagicons in Now United

Actually per WP:BRD, you are the one who made the BOLD change and added the flagicons, so it is you that would need to gain consensus for the change you are trying to make on the talk page. I already explained that in the edit summary and why the flagicons are inappropriate. If you continue to add the flagicons without a consensus, you could be blocked for WP:Edit warring. Aspects (talk) 05:01, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

You are right about WP:BRD, however I also explained to you in my edit summary why solely using WP:FLAGBIO as the justification for wiping out all the flags in the Now United table is not incontrovertible. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 20:25, 05:40, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

Regarding your edits on Pune and Uttarakhand

Hi, thanks for your edits on these pages. I understand that you are trying to improve the infobox images in your own way, but it would be preferable if you do two things first:
a) Insert individual images instead of collages since individual images can be swapped out at any time and the end result looks much cleaner
b) Seek consensus on the talk page regarding the images to be inserted, we can all pitch in with our suggestions so that the best images end up making their way to the article

Once again, I thank you for your edits but I request that you keep these two suggestions in mind. Thank you! Prolix 💬 07:41, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

Requesting your input on Uttarakhand's talk page

Hi Nkon21, since you have made edits on Uttarakhand before, I am sending you this message to alert you of a discussion on its talk page regarding the replacement of images in the infobox. Your input in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Prolix 💬 17:48, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
