usernameblock?

[1] "Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username" Really? For an account which has done nothing but vandalism/personal attacks? JamesBWatson (talk) 14:15, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Wrong one. I had a feeling after I'd gone out. Don't think they'll request unblocking, anyway. Peridon (talk) 20:02, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
OK. JamesBWatson (talk) 10:09, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

I added a little information and the source Nationalencyklopedin in the article Gustaf-Otto Adelborg. I hope this is enough to take back the nomination. Apart from that the User:Grammarxxx should be watched carefully since he/she is making mischief reports. Best regards, --AddyFBG (talk) 20:20, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gustaf-Otto Adelborg. Incidentally, am I allowed to close when I withdraw my nom? I close quite a few after speedying without involvement in the discussion. Peridon (talk) 22:19, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the link; my point is that a professional print encyclopedia can be trusted (unless very good evidence be offered to the contrary) to write about encyclopedic things, and ample evidence exists that Wikipedians aren't necessarily professional. And no, you may not close — not because it's your own nom, but because someone else had voted to delete. If nobody had voted to delete, or if the delete voter were to withdraw his vote, you could do it, but right now the only way it can be closed as keep is if the seven-day time expire or if we get into a WP:SNOW position. Questions regarding Pathfinder (band)

Hi, After a search on the band Pathfinder, I've realised that the wikipedia page Pathfinder_(band) has been removed. I'd like to re-create this page and add some information. Could you please give me some details regarding the reason why the page has been deleted? I'm happy to discuss this subject with you. Many thanks! Hornblende85 (talk) 14:37, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

As I deleted it, the article consisted of "Pathfinder is a Polish band formed in 2006.", a list of two recordings (one a demo), and a list of the members, plus an infobox which added the genre. No references. Have a look at WP:BAND and WP:RS (Reliable independent Sources - needed to prove the notability). I protected the article from creation as it had been re-created and deleted so many times. You're welcome to make a new attempt at User:Hornblende85/DRAFT. If you want help and advice, ask User:MelanieN or User:Tokyogirl79 whose taste in music I don't know about, but I do know they're both good at reference finding, rewording and rescuing. So long as you avoid promotion, attack, or copyright violation (you can't use text already published - ask first if you are planning to), it should be safe there from patrollers until finished and ready to move into article space. Best to work in user space first. The title can be unprotected at moving time - any admin can do that. Peridon (talk) 15:24, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

Hello, Peridon. You have new messages at Wnt's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

A tag has been placed on your user page, User talk:Monikaarora9953765858, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service, and which is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages: user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you can indicate why the page is not blatant advertising, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: Click here to contest this speedy deletion which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to your user talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also edit this page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would help make it encyclopedic. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Dawn Bard (talk) 18:30, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Erica Andrews

Why would you delete the page Erica Andrews? You stated it was the subject of a real person. If that is grounds for deleting then why do we have other actors and actresses, comedians, authors, singers, etc with pages on here? After all they are real people as well. Seems more biased due to the nature of who she was. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.223.77.175 (talk) 16:26, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

You didn't finish reading the reason for deletion. The part about 'real person' is there to remind people that this criterion does not apply to UNREAL people such as soap opera characters, Mario and Luigi, or Harry Potter. The important bit comes after that - "that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject.". If you feel that you can show that she is notable enough, try again with better references. Have a look at WP:RS. IMDb is not counted a reliable reference, and nor is YouTube. Also, own sites, agent's sites, blogs, forums, LinkedIn, Facebook and so on are not reliable independent sites. As to bias, I have so far deleted over 22,000 pages here. I think only two or three have concerned LGBT people. I do not base a decision to delete on sexuality, religion, colour, age, taste in music, or wealth. Nor do any of those worry me in real life. I have even been taken to a gay club by a lesbian (whose fortune I had read in a gay pub while trying to find a lesbian acquaintance to whom I thought I'd lent a book). No problems. If you do try again, do it in your user space at User:Procrastinator16/DRAFT (assuming you are that user - it does help us if you sign in...), and collect references before creating the article. Put the film name in double [ brackets - that wiki-links it. Then ask for advice. Peridon (talk) 16:59, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

Revdel

I've done those requested REVDELs. The drop-down list of reasons offers "User edited while logged-out, revealing IP", so it's clearly envisaged as an appropriate use. In fact this section implies that REVDEL is not enough and should only be used as an interim while requesting oversight; I'm not sure why REVDEL is not enough, but I have emailed Oversight anyway. Answered at PG's talk page. Peridon (talk) 18:47, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Hello, Peridon. I noticed that you're aware of Seringapatam's string of article creations. I've posted many of these for deletion, as many are quite blatant hoaxes (e.g. the one that described Eskimos blowing up a British warship, or annihilating a Danish army). The rest seem quite non-notable. I was wondering what you thought of the Mogadishu string - a series of articles describing the military adventures of a chap called "Muhammad Ali Somali." There is no evidence that this wonderful warlord ever existed. Do you think they're hoaxes? dci | TALK 19:43, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

I've deleted quite a few of these. I first searched a few of the refs where a title was given along with the ISBN on Amazon, and didn't find any of them. I've warned the user for hoaxes. INeverCry 19:56, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
OK. I had reported him at AIV but will withdraw the request. dci | TALK 20:00, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
He is at it again. I've given him a 4im and imagine a block should be appropriate for further infractions. dci | TALK 20:10, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
(ec) I tagged the one about the first Saudis invading Baghdad as a hoax, and withdrew it again when I found there were two Saudi Kingdoms before ibn Saud's. I'm not happy about the lack of referencing - one with an ISBN is a dead link on our checking thing. These battles are so obscure that there won't be much around - but I do wonder because he seems very keen on that one period. Has he got a book? I was also wondering whether AN, ANI or AIV would be appropriate. Some of the stuff he's posted has already got articles - Lectonar deleted one for that reason. Tricky stuff without an expert, though. Peridon (talk) 20:15, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
INeverCry has blocked him for a week. Hopefully, this resolves the problem or at least slows it. The Inuit and Angolan nonsense and the "Muhammad Ali Somali" storyline are pretty blatant hoaxes, but I'm a bit less certain about the Middle Eastern stuff. My guess is that it's as fake as the rest. dci | TALK 20:19, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
It's often easy to prove something, and hard to disprove it. That's why I gave him the warning about sources. WP:BURDEN lays it at his door to prove the stuff, but he doesn't seem to communicate. Perhaps the block will get him talking. That edit summary he used on his earliest stuff and the keenness on battles still makes me think that I've seen him before - under a different name. I must start making notes on interesting cases. Peridon (talk) 20:33, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
I'll keep an eye out at NewPagePatrol; if he's really this persistent, he may well use socks during even this brief a block. Perhaps he can be welcomed back next week by the Reich Corps of the Trombone and the amassed veterans of the Bicholim Conflict. dci | TALK 20:36, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

New iteration of a sockpuppet

Hi, Peridon! Feel like taking on a new sockpuppet of a notorious sockpuppeteer? The sockpuppeteer is so productive that he has his own category: Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of JoMontNW. The latest one appears to be User:JoMontSW. Contributions [2] are identical to the last sock. I put a note on the page of the admin who last blocked one of the socks, but that admin appear to be offline right now. I don't know where else to report this. Care to handle it or report it to the appropriate place? Thanks! --MelanieN (talk) 17:34, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of the page MENON Network

Hi you deleted the page MENON Network, which in fact is a nonprofit research network acting for the public good. Shall I rewrite tha page specifying this? posted by fabio.nascimbeni

I knew that it was non-profit. That makes no difference on Wikipedia as we treat charities and multi-nationals just the same. The article was deleted for being advertising - promoting the organisation. Have a look at WP:NPOV (neutral point of view) and WP:RS (reliable independent sources - needed to prove notability), and WP:ORG about notability for organisations. There's no problem about you doing a rewrite. Put it at User:Fabio.nascimbeni/DRAFT (click and save) and make sure you comply with NPOV. You can ask User:MelanieN for help after you've got the basic article created - she's good at rescuing things. Don't copy and paste from anywhere - even from things you have written - including the official website. If you are closely connected to the organisation, please read WP:COI (conflict of interest). That's about editing a subject you are close to, not one you are fighting against (although it can apply there too sometimes...). Closeness isn't forbidden, but it sometimes makes NPOV hard to attain - and referencing isn't easy when you KNOW all about the place. I often advise people to find the independent references first and write the article around them. Cheating, but seems to work. Good luck. Peridon (talk) 13:35, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
PS don't copy the <nowiki> bit - that stops things like == working. If you look at the edit window for this section, you'll see I've put three nowikis in a row (and the last one has a / in it which means 'end of'). That's so the one in the middle will show without doing anything. Things like == and {{ are coding, and we use nowiki to show what you type rather than what it does when in action. You'll see that the heading is a heading now I've taken out the nowikis. There's a lot to learn in this place... Peridon (talk) 13:42, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

Hampshire C.C election, 2013 talk page

Since you deleted the talk page, any idea when there will be a proper article please? 79.79.105.140 (talk) 14:50, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Do we usually have pages for County Council elections? County Councillors don't get enough notability from their positions to have articles. Are elections below national level notable? One heck of a lot of them world-wide... The talk page was deleted because we don't have unattached talk pages (other than in Wikipedia:Articles for Creation). If you're editing as an IP, you can only create articles through AfC, not by creating things as loose talk pages. For a better opinion, I'd suggest asking User:DGG who knows far more than me. Peridon (talk) 18:23, 21 March 2013 (UTC)
Could you not have moved the info from the talk page to the main article page? 79.79.105.140 (talk) 00:33, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
You asked for my opinion. I don't know UK local politics, but in the US a city council election in a large city would usually get a reasonable amount of newspaper attention. And the usual reason to articles on losing candidates for notable positions is that where there is coverage, the coverage is entirely related to the election, and therefore fails 1EVENT so we redirect to the election, And in general. we often make combination articles when the individual components of it aren't themselves separately notable. I therefore think it very reasonable for us to have a page on election even when we do not on the individual candidates. But it is true that my individual view on political candidates is considerably more inclusive than the consensus. So, checking consensus, we seem to have a number of such established articles: Nottingham City Council election, 2011,Southampton local elections and the pages listed there for the individual elections, etc. And, in fact for Hampshire County Council elections. I see a number of pages, made mostly by User:Dave Wild, who has been an admin here since 2007. He even made see East Hampshire Council election, 2011, and BrownHairGirl , who is quite conservative in such things, has edited it.
Now, the material was made in article talk space, which we usually do not do, so I think I agree with the editor's suggestion that it be moved ; user space is the customary place for a page captioned " Just preparing the info ready for the article page" . The only problem is that this is a little unusual for an anon. handle it in the simplest way, I just did it. It's at User:79.79.105.140/Hampshire County Council election, 2013. This is not really the best place, since it's an anon account: what I suggest the ed. do is either get an account and have it movde there as a subpage, or move it to AfC for we're using AfC for that in many cases these days. 79., if you need help with either, let me know on my user talk page. DGG ( talk ) 16:52, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

I have no idea where this page came from

Can I ask you to delete the redirect page User:MelanieN/School district, or do I have to go through channels? I have no idea where it came from or how it got my name attached. I have never worked on this subject (the Albertville School District) and don't ever intend to. It looks like it was created by User:Dr. Blofeld; maybe he was annoyed that I disagreed with him in his massive AfD nomination here? (TMLutas also disagreed, maybe I should ask him if he knows this page exists). Anyhow if you can't nuke it, please tell me what I need to do to request a nuking. Thanks. --MelanieN (talk) 22:58, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Done. I don't know if the recipient knows he's got it or not I think Dr B might have put it in your space by mistake, and then moved it to the other user's. (Like I deleted it in TMLutas's space by mistake - and put it back. Happens with redirects...) He couldn't delete the redirect himself, and people don't always remember to tag them. No problems about personal requests. If I'm not around, just use db-U1. Peridon (talk) 09:45, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

You can't speedy in user space for non-notability. As I've pointed out on her page, only things that get speedied in user space normally are attack, copyvio, hoax and advertising. 'A' category speedies are article space. 'U' are user space. 'G' are anywhere. If you object strongly to that sandbox in the context of notability, it'll have to be MfD. OK. There's slightly more to it than that. First, a quick explanation of the problem with copyright text. Wikipedia is licensed under CC-BY-SA for free reuse by anyone anywhere. Text that is not licensed this way can't be used on Wikipedia. If you read WP:COPYVIO it tells you more about this, and how text can be licensed - but remember that licensing means that anyone anywhere can use it, and make use of it by changing it. Second, please read WP:COI - I can't see any promotional stuff in the text, but read it anyway. It's about editing subjects you are close to. Third, any article needs to have sources that are independent and reliable. You gave external links - none of which were independent, so far as I can see. Your site cannot be used to show notability under WP:GROUP or WP:CORP - I'm not sure which applies. Not all that different. And notability should be shown, otherwise an article won't survive. WP:RS tells you about reliable independent sources. If you need more information about copyright, two experts are User:Moonriddengirl and User:VernoWhitney. A good reference finder and rescuer is User:MelanieN. Over to you... Peridon (talk) 10:34, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Nathan Ryan

Dear Peridon, Last night I created a page for Nathan Ryan who is a YouTube celebrity and musician that is well known in the internet community. He has a verified profile on Twitter and many subscribers and views on his YouTube channel. Can you please let me know what I did wrong, so I correct what should have been included and the page can be added back?

thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.222.37.61 (talk) 12:47, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

OK. If you sign in when posting, it helps - I can look in your deleted contributions then. (And please sign talk page posts with four ~ things, too...). I can find Nathan ryan deleted in 2009, but not your one. I seem to remember the name and YouTube, though. Number of views on YouTube doesn't count for much, as it is comparatively easy to set up an automatic thing to increase the view rating. Twitter is not a reliable independent source - it's user supplied info. We need independent coverage, and not in editable places like Facebook, Twitter, AboutUs, IMDb and YouTube (editable by the subject), or forums, wikis (including us here) or blog comments (editable by anyone). Blogs are only reliable when the blogger is notable enough for an article here already. You need to have reliable press coverage (not something like The Catfish Flats Herald Tribune and Echo, or online 'radio' unless notable for an article here). Some YouTube things are considered notable, Smosh for instance. The vast majority are not - and some of the participants might well regret their activities if/when real fame arrives... Peridon (talk) 13:04, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
Found it - I'd got a . in the search by mistake. OK. Specific stuff now. Releasing your own stuff (I am assuming it's you in person) doesn't count for notability. It's like self-published books. Being published by a regular publisher means there's assessment before they take it on. Self-publishing means no-one checks anything. Anyone can self-publish or release on download. There's no indication in the text of any gigs. Read WP:BAND and WP:RS about the reliable INDEPENDENT sources needed to prove notability. Peridon (talk) 13:18, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
Hi Peridon - I am actually not him. He just appeared at Playlist Live on the main stage this past weekend. He has also toured in the United States last year and does have interviews and features in publications such as Substream Magazine, Digital Tourbus, and more. He has appeared for a signing at Warped Tour in 2011. I'm sure there is more I can find out, so I will see what else I can provide. Also - wouldn't the Twitter verification make quite a case as well?
He toured with both Brokencyde and the Millionaires on two separate tours - both of which have Wikipedia articles

OK, read 'you' as 'him'. And please do sign. If you try again, do it in user space (at User:Yourname/DRAFT (you still aren't signed in and I can't remember who you are, so copy that format with your name in the right place). Leave the pic out unless it's free use (i.e. taken by you and uploaded by you). If it's one of his pics, it's copyright and shouldn't be used in userspace. In article space, there might be a case for fair use, but that would need checking on. Get the basics in, with references. Then when you've got something you think passes WP:BAND with WP:RS, ask User:MelanieN for an opinion. As to Twitter, it's a messaging service. Anyone can have an account there, and numbers of followers count for as little as do numbers of YT views. It may show existence, but existence isn't enough. Touring with doesn't always mean notable. Worth mentioning (and proving with references), but there needs to be coverage of HIM. Up and coming isn't enough. We have articles on the arrived (and the past it...). Hi peridon - my username is here for your reference User:drm04008
Thanks, but SIGN IN and SIGN YOUR POSTS on talk pages. Use four ~ things, or click the thing that looks like a bit of pencil in the top line of the edit box. Next to the wiggly brackets. They both sign for you. Peridon (talk) 22:26, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
Ok I'll try again here.... also - do I have to resubmit for the artcile to be restored to make the changes discussed above? Drm04008 (talk) 22:28, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
That's better. (I'm outdenting 'cos I'm losing count of the dots. There's a code that does it, but I can never remember it.) If you're creating it at User:Drm04008/DRAFT, you don't have to submit anything. (You don't anyway - using Articles for Creation is voluntary, so far as I know. They try to keep that quiet, I think.) You can start whenever you want, but don't put the pic in for now, and don't add categories (assuming you know how - I never add them myself, preferring to leave that to the category gnomes). Don't put it into article space until one of us has had a look. Best to see if it can be got right first. Mind you, I can't stop you. I think it better to not have it deleted again if possible. Too many times, and a thing called salting comes in. There's at least a couple of performers whose titles are salted - they can only be created by admins. One of them's used about six different titles so far. Haven't seen him for a while... Peridon (talk) 22:43, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
Drm04008 raised it at REFUND and I have userfied it for him (and pointed him to WP:42 and WP:MUSICBIO so he knows what he has to do). The image is actually a free one from Commons, so doesn't have to be removed in userspace. JohnCD (talk) 23:09, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
I have modified the article [4]. User:MelanieN, User:Peridon and User:JohnCD, can you please provide any further input? I have added about 11 sources from 3rd party verifiable sites to back my claims. Once you look please let me know if I need anything else prior to re-submission. Drm04008 (talk) 00:01, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
At a quick look, that's probably OK, though it would have to get by on the basis of interview and news coverage rather than actually meeting WP:BAND. Try it on WP:Articles for creation. JohnCD (talk) 01:03, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of Aveksa, INC,

Peridon,

On 3/27 I created a page for the software company Aveksa. You deleted it under the guise of "unambiguous advertising or promotion." However, the intent of the article was not to solicit Aveksa, but rather inform the public and those in the business community about a prevalent tech startup in a similar vain to already existing Wikipedia pages like Apperian(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apperian) and Progress Software (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progress_Software). All of Aveksa's information was third-party sourced independant from Aveka's website. Aveksa's intended pages do not differ from any of these "allowed" content. Please explain why Aveksa cannot exist as a Wikipedia page when these others are.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MMaraKane (talkcontribs) 17:38, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

I would first of all refer you to WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS - each article stands on its own merits and the existence of one doesn't mean the other should. I've tagged Apperian as being written like an advert, and Progress looks OK to me. Yours contained things like "purpose-built to efficiently handle millions of identities, accounts and entitlements, providing a reliable source of truth" and "business-user-centric access request portal", both of which are not encyclopaedic writing (straight from the PR department...). Please read WP:NPOV (neutral point of view) and note that it's not the intent that counts - it's what it looks like. We have WP:DUCK - if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck - it IS a duck. There is no reason why you shouldn't try again. Just read that NPOV policy, and do not allow the PR department near. Keep all the business speak out. No jargon. Make it boringly factual. If you want to create it at User:MMaraKane/DRAFT you can get advice and help - User:MelanieN is good at rescuing things and usually willing to help. If it gets tagged as promo before it's ready, it's not written right. There's an art in it. I find it hard, because I often write in a humorous way and have to keep reminding myself where I am. Good luck. BTW Please sign talk page posts with four ~ things. That puts your signature and the datestamp. Like this: Peridon (talk) 17:59, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Maximized Living

Hey, Peridon. I created a page for Maximized Living and I understand what you'd like for me to change. That said, I'd be happy to change it, but is it possible to restore the original text as a large amount of it was original text I spent time summarizing?

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Made977 (talkcontribs) 19:55, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

The deletion was for the copyright problem, but I'm afraid that's not the end of the story... To show notability, you need new references. Look at WP:RS - reliable independent sources. An official site cannot establish notability, Amazon isn't an RS, and the spinalcolumn one is a subject supplied profile - not independent (I'm not going to be nasty and say not reliable either - but if you saw some of what we see...). You will need RS for the bio info, but you must show independently that the company is notable too WP:CORP. (Strictly, to pass speedy you only need to credibly claim significance. If that's all there is, the patrollers go for proposed deletion, and when the author declines that, Articles for Deletion. Best to go for the notability straight off.) I can send you the text in an email, but I wouldn't like to restore it. When you rewrite, keep well away from the original. Changing odd words here and there isn't good enough. When you say "original text I spent time summarizing", do you mean original text for here, or that you wrote the text on the website? Text original to here is OK (so long as it fits with WP:NPOV and shows the notability etc etc). If you wrote the text there, it's just the same as if Fred Bloggs wrote it. It's copyright there and can't be used here. Must not be closely (and preferably, not even loosely) paraphrased. Have a read, have a think, do a Google. Then let me know if you think it's going to work. (Without RS, it won't.) If you have trouble finding them, ask User:MelanieN. She's very good at it and usually willing to help. Over to you... I'm really not sure why you prodded it - you could have known that I would just deprod it again. The thing is - if you search for the French name you get lots of usable stuff. Please consider adding some of this material to the article. StAnselm (talk) 21:34, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Go ahead - I'm always happy when someone rescues something. I'm off to bed. Peridon (talk) 21:36, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
