Hi I added a new link to a new university based free BSL resource and deleted a link yesterday in the British Sign Language section which you then reinstated. The link I deleted is to a free section promoting a commercial site - can I check if this is now allowed please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.4.89.235 (talk) 10:11, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

86.4.89.235 There are two separate proposed edits here: (1) the adding of a new external link; (2) choosing to delete another external link. Both can be done, with sound reasons. Each should be done on their own merit, and doing both at the same confuses the issues. Whether a site is commercial doesn't have much to do with whether it is useful. As I noted in the partial-reversion[1], I have no idea whether the new UCL link is better, but there seems no reason to delete a previous one... It would help if you could explain your reasons (on the Talk:British Sign Language page) about why the other link should be removed. —Sladen (talk) 10:51, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply. This same link was removed by MrOllie in April of 2014, presumably for the reason I queried? If links to useful free material on commercial sites is permitted then there are some that I would like to add that had previously been removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.4.89.235 (talk) 13:03, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply. That same link was removed by MrOllie in April of 2014, presumably for the reason I queried? If links to useful free material on commercial sites is now permitted then there are some that I would like to resubmit that had previously been removed because they were on commercial sites, if you could clarify please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.4.89.235 (talk) 16:02, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
(edit conflict) 86.4.89.235 It's good that you've got a list in mind. Please use the Talk:British Sign Language talk page to list each one separately that you'd like removed, or added, with the reason why the action would be appropriate. —Sladen (talk) 16:05, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
I'm unclear wht you mean that I have a list in mind? Also unsure how to enter on the Talk page link, where my comment should go or how I add it? It's a simple question about policy of external links to commercial sites and whether this policy has changed or not please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.4.89.235 (talk) 17:12, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
86.4.89.235: The policy covering external links to WP:EL; generally we try to minimise the number of external links. I had taken your statement above "there are some [links] that I would like to add" to mean that you had a list of some links that you would like to add. Adding a new section/comment at the bottom of Talk:British Sign Language should the same as on this user-specific User talk:Sladen page. Try something like "I would like to add/restore/delete the following external links x,y,z because of reasons a,b,c.". —Sladen (talk) 21:28, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Ways to improve Kosovo Train for Life

Hi, I'm The Herald. Sladen, thanks for creating Kosovo Train for Life!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Needs Wikilinks

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.  - T H (here I am) 10:57, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

The Herald, thanks for the prod. I've peppered a few backlinks around.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10] Is that sufficient for the moment? —Sladen (talk) 13:54, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on TimedText:2015-04-22-1700-1800-bbc-radio4-pm-wikipedia-experiment.ogg.en.srt requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from {{{value1}}}. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Pigsonthewing I would hope that the associated history clearly shows the time-spent transcribing, correcting and refining. Your assistance has been requested[11] to assist with getting a release on the associated audio. If you're no longer involved, please could you put me in contact and I will try to follow it up directly. As per Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/2008 IWF action/Media coverage#BBC Radio 4: Today Programme there is good prior for having these transcripts. —Sladen (talk) 23:03, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
Sladen, this has been taken to AN, and you don't seem to have been notified yet, so here it is. I can provide an offline copy of your own work if you want. ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  23:11, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
Salvidrim: Thanks for the heads up. The transcript was created primarily there for collective benefit of those dealing with handling the User talk:PMpuppet incident from yesterday (Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#PM (BBC Radio 4)). As such it's significantly more useful if the transcripts are somewhere multiple editors can get to them… ie. where it was, at least for a week or so until the meta issues are resolved. Note that this is on en.wp, not commons. —Sladen (talk) 23:18, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Rail Riders

Hi. I saw that you did some work on User:Sladen/Rail Riders not that long ago. Do you plan to move this back to article space? I'd love that. Cordless Larry (talk) 21:34, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Cordless Larry, thank you for the prompting. I've moved to back to article space[12] at Rail Riders. I think I had been hoping to hear back from various people on Twitter Flickr (about images), or perhaps track down some more source material first; but perhaps moving it will be an encouragement to others. It could probably do with some incoming links (York railway station, British Rail, …). Once again, thank you for the reminder. —Sladen (talk) 22:47, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
That's great. I'll see if I can find any more sources, but you've done a good job. Cordless Larry (talk) 06:00, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for creating the Hogwarts Express article! I always meant to get to it but I was to lazy! Thanks again! Dom497 (talk) 01:03, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Dom497. Thank you for that. Unfortunately it would appear that a copy-and-paste move has now been attempted—please don't do such things as they destroy the history which is required for copyright purposes. (Please see WP:CUTPASTE). —Sladen (talk) 02:21, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
I'll be nominating the "attractions" page for deletion then (when I get a chance) . Once that gets deleted, I'll move the page. It's important to note that Hogwarts Express is an attraction....so I don't understand why you are calling it a Florida transportation stub....it should really be an amusement ride stub.--Dom497 (talk) 11:43, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
I also plan on rewriting the article so it can match the typical amusement ride article layout.--Dom497 (talk) 11:45, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Dom497. I'm unsure how deleting a disambiguation page at Hogwarts Express (attraction) will help users differentiate between various Hogwarts Express attractions available around the world.
For the Hogwarts Express (funicular), the source material would appear to describe its origin fairly well: Jaws offered the largest area for us to create something that was about the same footprint that we did back at Hogsmeade.[13] Where would the train go? Of course, it will go backstage, but the guests will never know because we’re going to take them on the actual journey.[14] That created the whole idea of the Hogwarts Express. Of course, we [already] had a parked Hogwarts Express,[15] There’s no limitation, no ride-height limitation. You get on the train, and it’s a train except the journey is magical[16]. Its raison d'être was to get several thousand people per hour from A→B, because location B is where development land was available. From the source material we can also see that the screened windows were an artifact of needing to travel over the backlot/backstage area to reach the new site and that perception from the potential passengers of it being an attraction is later.[17] All-in-all, it's probably unhelpful to presume that it is "a ride" like a roller-coaster going from A→A; this is not what the source material supports. It moves passengers from A→B and passengers boarding require a valid ticket for the destination. On the one hand it appear to be more akin to the Chester Zoo#Monorail, Disneyland Railroad, Disneyland Monorail System; on the other hand there is no round-tripping: passengers must disembark at the destination and leave the system. —Sladen (talk) 12:59, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
when I think about, I actually think it's half ride half transportation thingy. It's not like a monorail where you get on and brings you somewhere. The HE brings you into a new world with a storyline to it, making it a ride expirence as well. Either way, I'll still be re-writing the article to better structure it (I'll just be moving around the current paragraphs for the most part). My goal is to get it to GA. On that note, some of the sources you are mentioning on the talk page aren't reliable at all so those can't be used in the article.--Dom497 (talk) 15:49, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
I'm willing to work with you to get this to GA status (with how big of an expansion this one and the international attention it got...it shouldn't be to hard). If we work hard enough we also may be able to get it to FA...if we can find enough. By the way, thanks for what you have done so far! :). --Dom497 (talk) 15:51, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
I'm going ahead and going to start re-organizing the article. I'm going to be working on it here so if I ask to make both of our lives easier, if you find anything else that you think should be included, add it there (not the actual article) since the actual one is going to get "deleted" (in a sense). If anything, add it to both my draft and the actual article. Also, I still don't like the article name. Perhaps "Hogwarts Express (Universal Orlando Resort)" is better?--Dom497 (talk) 20:34, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for being open to the possibility of what the subject of the article is. It would be excellent, as you say, to locate more sources and I look forward to seeing what you can dig up. You are course welcome to work in a sandbox for experimentation—however, when an article is already the Wiki, please ensure that your final changes are performed individually on the original—for copyright licence and crediting purposes we need the full edit-history. When making these edits, please use the edit summary so that it is clear why a change is being proposed.
With respect to [18], we normally try to avoid having consecutive linked words in prose because it creates a WP:SEAOFBLUE; it is preferable to try and retain linked words separated by an unlinked word. —Sladen (talk) 22:38, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
I know how to edit articles. ;) If you agree to the new article name I'm ready to move it now (using the tool which will bring the article history over with it). Regarding the consecutive linked words, I've written GA's and FA's that have them with no problem. And by the way, editing in my sandbox isn't for experimentation, I am re-writing the article. :) --Dom497 (talk) 23:01, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Quick question. How did you figure out which permit was for each station? I'm looking at them now and can't find anything that says anything specific.--Dom497 (talk) 23:29, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
More than happy for you to work on improvements (Wikipedia is a collaborative process); but please make the improvements themselves on the article itself so that others can co-operative and we don't end up with a WP:MERGE mess for an admin to deal with. As noted before WP:CUTPASTE is not acceptable on Wikipedia.
For telling the three planning applications apart: the south station refers to station, exit tunnel and front entry stair + a medium sewer benefit contribution from likely from filling in the Dragon pond; the second refers to Stair Tower 1–4; and the third refers to exit capacity, boiler rooms, previouly approved mass gradings and a large sewer benefit contribution likely from filling the bigger Jaws pond. Of course, in the initial place I used the various available non-WP:RS (some listed on Talk:Hogwarts Express (funicular) to locate the numbers and confirm an understanding of which was which. Originally the applications said "South station", "Connector", and "North station" instead of the generic word "Project". —Sladen (talk) 00:39, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, but I'm going to be working on the article in my sandbox. I've done it this way at least 30 times over 3 years and no one has ever given me a problem with it. And if I were to edit the actual article it would be a mess because things would be incomplete (I work at my own pace :D ). The rule (that I made for myself) I have always followed is that I watchlist the article I am re-writing. If anyone makes any changes, I make the changes on my draft so when I do go "copy and paste", there is no mess. Also, do you happen to be a Harry Potter fan? I'm having trouble trying to figure out which house this is: hyoutu.be/-oeHJmwD-sQ?t=5m15s. Finally, if those are what your basing permits off of, there is no way that can be used. It's borderline OR. The only issue with the sources you linked on the talk page is that they are not reliable ones (Parkscope might be able to get by...but that's a big MAY).--Dom497 (talk) 00:47, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
Tell you what. After I complete each section, I will move that section to the actual article (so nothing looks half complete). For example, if you look at my draft, you will see that I am currently working on the ride expirence section. Once I complete the section, I will move it. Is that ok?--Dom497 (talk) 00:59, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Yes, you are more than welcome to do any changes you want on a local copy; however as the copy was created using copy-and-paste it does not meet the requirements of the GFDL and CC-BY-SA for preserving a record of contributors (see WP:COPYWITHIN). So when you have finished; please reapply your own contributions one-by-one to the original article, remembering to include an appropriate edit summary with each.
For the citations; I'm not local to Florida, so I can't wander down to the planning off to get a copy of the plans—you may be in a position to do so, or an other editor of reader may be in a position to do so. The date of the planning applications are all the same, and the year of grant are all the same; which is IIRC precisely what the article states… —Sladen (talk) 01:00, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
Sorry bud, I'm in Canada! Oh well, no permits in the article then (for now). And do you know the building I was asking about above?--Dom497 (talk) 01:04, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
I believe the original concern expressed was with the various third parties sites interpreting the permits were. The permits themselves of factual public records and eminently suitable as citation source.
I don't (didn't) know what the building was, but after fixing the link and spending 30 seconds of hunting through the existing cites[19] suggests it's probably something called "Malfoy Manor". —Sladen (talk) 01:13, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
Sorry about deleting the entire thing. That was an accident! And you are clearly much better at research then me!!!!!--Dom497 (talk) 01:27, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
Also sorry about the dates. I'm used to the Canadian way, eh?--Dom497 (talk) 02:24, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
Can you take a look at the reception section I added and copyedit as needed? Thanks!--Dom497 (talk) 00:28, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
Hey, I think you should update the file descriptions for the two pictures you added to the article. As it stands now, the descriptions don't say anything about the picture (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Orlando-hogwarts-express-kings-cross-station.jpg, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Orlando-hogwarts-express-inside-cabin-with-window-view-15988152016.jpg)--Dom497 (talk) 16:39, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
Hey again (wow...I like to talk to you a lot!!). So I removed one of the statements you added that linked to a YouTube video containing the NBC broadcast. Obviously that's a major copyright violation (I'm surprised it's still on YouTube). NBC does have the broadcast cut up into parts their website, however my computer doesn't seem like it wants to play it (hate Acer computers). So perhaps you can figure out which section the of the broadcast you need to cite? Sorry! Also, I just watched it all over again and it sucks that they didn't talk about HE as much I as I thought they... :( --Dom497 (talk) 18:26, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
Everything we link to as a source is copyrighted by somebody; the citation is to the original television programme; I've restored it[20] minus the URL WP:CITE#Convenience links if that's deemed to be the problem. The offset (24:00) is in the citation—the date is from a title-card, and the rest is in the narration following that point. We're more than welcome to add a convenience link to another copy if one can be located, but the link is not compulsory if alternatives can't be found. It would be useful to track down the original broadcast date, and fill that in too if possible. —Sladen (talk) 19:33, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

Hogwarts Express

Whats the difference between peak and rated performance? (Sorry, not a motor guy). (http://newsroom.doppelmayr.com/en/doppelmayr/news/doppelmayr-garaventa-built-the-hogwarts-express-2/) --Dom497 (talk) 13:52, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

Dom497: Normal long-term everyday use verses exceptional bursts/peaks. For a human the equivalent might be jogging/walking (possible for many hours) vs. sprinting (possible for 10–20 seconds only). Peak current is generally used for a short burst to take up slack and starting things moving (overcoming the coefficient of friction). Think about pushing a car by hand, it takes a huge amount of effort to get it rolling, but after that it's relatively easy. ——Sladen (talk) 14:13, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Ok, so can you read the "Train" section, here, at tell me if it makes sense? Thanks!--Dom497 (talk) 14:17, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Dom497: Were such a change to be proposed on the Hogwarts Express (funicular) article, I might try to encourage rephrasing it to read something like "and runs at 215 kilowatts""has a rated load of 215 kilowatts". Normally tender (rail) is singular (except for rare cases such as LNER Class A3 4472 Flying Scotsman#In popular culture running with two tenders to allow sufficient water capacity in North America, and after the end of steam. If the source gives a number, it seems reasonable to use that number, and not to add "approximately" "about" etc. —Sladen (talk) 14:32, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Hey do you mind trying to find a reliable source stating that both trains face the same direction and arrive at Kings Cross backwards? Even a picture showing the two trains on the track would do. I've been trying to find something but have so far turned up empty handed.--Dom497 (talk) 23:52, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
You think this will do?--Dom497 (talk) 00:00, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
(edit conflict) I've added[21] an explicit |quote= to the cite already present. There is Youtube footage of reverse-arrival into King's Cross station, eg. [22]. I have completely failed to find any photograph (let alone a freely-licensed one) of the two trains passing each other at the mid-point. Based on the the angles, a telephoto lens looking north from the Hogsmeade station platform would give a side-by-side photograph of the two trains passing each other. —Sladen (talk) 00:12, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
The thing is is that TPT is completely unreliable so that source has to go (eventually). With the video you linked, though we both know it always enters the station in reverse, another editor can easily question it and say that only shows one instance; no proof that it always happens. Have you checked out the video I linked above? Maybe that will do?--Dom497 (talk) 00:18, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
Ah yes, the Mathematical joke#Stereotypes of mathematicians single-sided sheep joke! I've added another explicit |quote= to another cite and applied it to the lack of reversing. I would be tempted to leave the cites as they are until a concern is actually raised. Textual citations are likely better, but if it is felt that visual sources might be needed as well I probably won't object. —Sladen (talk) 00:52, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
Sounds good! (Did we actually agree on something? LOL! Progress!😜)--Dom497 (talk) 00:55, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
You are one tough person to satisfy.--Dom497 (talk) 02:25, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Haha

You're being such a smart ass right now. Don't need to be thanked for edits like the one you just thanked me for.--Dom497 (talk) 01:13, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

Dom497 Thank you for having taken on board the WP:COPYVIO issue highlighted and chosen to be proactive[23] in taking appropriate steps. Bearing in mind WP:THANKS#Guidelines for expressing thanks would you be able to express how you would prefer to be thanked? Is there another form of words that could be used? —Sladen (talk) 01:21, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
Oh please, you've denied the fact that you made errors and blamed them on me. I don't need your thanks.--Dom497 (talk) 01:23, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
Dom497, reviewing the highlighted diff at [24] and searching for "bevil" it would appear to show <ref name="bevil-20140702"/> on the left, and <ref name="bevi-20140702"/> on the right. Would you be able to help me to better understand this WP:DIFF if it is showing an alternative interpretation? —Sladen (talk) 01:30, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
When I was making the major edit, I was trying to avoid getting confused with which cites we're unreliable, duplicates, etc. As a result, I didn't rename any ref names which so happened to contain your error (not mine) from the revision I linked on the article talk page. I was going to change it but had to do something for my personal life.--Dom497 (talk) 01:34, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
Dom497 The diff [25] would appear to show that such a change was made, and shows that editors' username. The same diff shows a rename of <ref name="doppelmayr-20140725"/> to <ref name=doppelmayrPressRelease>. —Sladen (talk) 01:42, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
Maybe if you would actually look at the cite you would realize I changed the citation completely and that's why I changed the ref name (so I could tell the new ref and old ref apart when I was merging/changing content).--Dom497 (talk) 02:04, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
Just remember that you are in the wrong. You made false accusations against me for your errors and laziness (not checking that there were duplicate and unreliable ref's; making the spelling error and blaming it on me; not checking if the cites changed and instead accuse me yet again (as mentioned above)). I would rather not have to write an essay detailing where your errors are but if I have to I will.--Dom497 (talk) 02:09, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
Dom497 I'm not sure an essay has been requested or would be required. It is usually customary to provide WP:DIFFS to support assertions. Most of the relevant edits to Hogwarts Express (funicular) are small with clear summary lines and so should be of assistance. —Sladen (talk) 09:00, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
You clearly didn't read any of my messages on the article talk page. Now it seems your making assumptions on purpose. Since you don't seem to care, I will not be providing you with the Diff that I've already linked in the article talk page. You are more than capable of finding it (or maybe your not...that's what it seems like right now).--Dom497 (talk) 12:50, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

Hogwarts Express Part 2

You know if you were going to make so many changes to the article you should of told me so I could hold of on the nomination right? Your really starting to become unbearable.--Dom497 (talk) 22:28, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Let me know when your done doing your thing before I start reverting some of your edits which I disagree with.--Dom497 (talk) 22:55, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
A Wikipedia article is not something that is WP:FINISHED at a particular point in time—however each edit should stand on its WP:OWNFEET. Any use of WP:REVERT should clearly give a rationale and abide by policy (eg. WP:3RR). If it is relying on WP:BRD then the discussion part is an essential requirement. —Sladen (talk) 08:07, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

Why did you remove the second infobox from Beautiful People (band)? The article makes clear why it uses it.--Launchballer 08:45, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

Launchballer, thank you for raising this following the revert[26]. Perhaps you can help my understand a little more about pre-release cover versions and how large this categorisation/subject area might be. Looking at the potential use of {{pre-release cover version}} the navbox and comparing it to the guidelines in WP:NAVBOX it appeared to be that it would be unlikely to meet "1. All articles within a template relate to a single, coherent subject."; "3. The articles should refer to each other, to a reasonable extent. or "5. If not for the navigation template, an editor would be inclined to link many of these articles in the See also sections of the articles.". Would a WP:CATEGORY work more appropriately? —Sladen (talk) 08:57, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
In all honesty I created the navbox so I could easily split them up in to what sort of cover artist they were; was it all they did or what else did they do?--Launchballer 10:27, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
I've added the one remaining entry[27] to Category:Cover artists. This is probably likely to be a more-scalable solution. And, of course, sub-categories can be created; or an article appear in more than category. —Sladen (talk) 10:41, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

I saw your good revert here of 146.185.31.215. You may not have noticed the inappropriate removal of content the IP made before that, which I just reverted. The IP's history shows continuous disruptive edits, so I hope someone is monitoring them. I also did this revert to the IP in another article. Czoal (talk) 02:26, 5 October 2015 (UTC)

I noticed your comment about missing urls on AN/I. It reminds me of something I always mean to raise, one of the key issues with web citation, which also plays into the question of the "quote" parameter that's currently causing so much unneeded unpleasantness.

That is, if I check a ref URL and it supports the assertion, should I not update the accessdate? Or better still have a first and last accessdate? In the present case, for example, there is every likelihood that many of the urls will be different, and no guarantee that the content is the same as the original citer saw.

Hello , i just corrected some informations about Billy Boy. Those infos are totally try , easy to check wit Swiss administration, Billy Boy being the name BillyBoy* has on his id pears, the books are on sale at amazon , and the third one is on Rizzoli usa website..... I 'm a collector ,and know the work and the life of this person for more than 30 years ... how can you correct me on his birthplace, he is not born in the USA but in Vienna etc....... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Suzy Wong (talkcontribs) 09:21, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

Hello Suzy Wong. Thank you for getting involved and wanting to help improve Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a summary of existing human knowledge, so what matters is that information is WP:VERIFY and traceable to an original already-published source outside Wikipedia; called a reliable source (see WP:RS): this is a reference work, academic work, newspaper, non-self-published book…). You've mentioned Switzerland as being a possible later residence, so I've started a discussion at Talk:BillyBoy*#Residence to see if we can find sources to back that up and allow it to be included. Your knowledge in other aspects would be really useful and appreciated, and it might help to find more reliable sources that can back-up these and allow them to be included. —Sladen (talk) 12:17, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
Look i'm truly having a hard time going through this , i'm work in the field of contemporary art and antiques, what i say are just facts i learned along . Billy Boy moved to Switerland at least 20 years ago , it's been all over the local news , not everything is on line, but I mean he has a fondation there he had shows in museums there .... Do you want more proofs .... And may i ask you how you got so mush authority in the field of fashion and doll collecting ? .... I mean i'm not being aggressive here, iam just trying to get things right.
you have a nice evening,
Jean-Marc — Preceding unsigned comment added by Suzy Wong (talkcontribs) 16:34, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
Greetings Suzy Wong/Jean-Marc, thank you for replying. Local news coverage is great—we just need a link (URL) to the relevant news article(s), and also highlighting the relevant sentence or offset. Then the facts that news report contains can be added to the article. We can't add anything unless it is supported by a news report, book etc. Ideally please could you add any URLs you know of to the Talk:BillyBoy* Talk page. —Sladen (talk) 16:50, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
Suzy Wong, I've hunted out a few more possible citations on Talk:BillyBoy*. Would you be able to help navigate which ones are correct. I still can't find a citation for the birthday, only the year (1960). —Sladen (talk) 20:22, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

Good Morning Sladen ( for it is morning here )

this article search is quite biased because the story starts way before internet and archives on line . I my self have an entire basement of them but if i had to dig it's gonna take a century .

Well . You did find some good articles . Do you actually read french ? ( I am French) . They are saying BillyBoy* is born in Vienna Austria , from teen parents , he was adopted in USA at age of 4 by parents from Russian origins . Very common fact I would say , Russian immigrants in America who want to adopte a child, very difficult procedure, and end up adopting a supposed "uneasier" case, meaning a already 4 year old child .

so what i wrote previously about his birth was right , about the date, I have it in my files forever, don't remember how.

This morning , i'll be quick as I have to go to work (in a museum) , I'm gonna make a point about the fact that BillyBilly* is a socialite , a socialite is an important qualification , that just means he , all his life, gravitated, in different types of high society and fashionable crowds, just enough, to be shoot in magazines, at fashion shows, parties .... with famous people , that also means no matter what he does he has a network ready to participate for more exposure.

I was looking for an Article in a french magazine from the 80's, ACTUEL , in which BillyBOY3 freshly arrived in Paris was asked , as an authority on the topic, to interview Art Deco Artist Monsieur Eté (then more than 90 years old ) ....at the first click I found this link :

from NY TIMES 1985 (amazing i think ) : It's from a Fashion column

there you can read :

"FRIDAY night, Reginette was the scene of a dinner for Billy Boy, the jewelry designer who persuaded top fashion names to create couture Barbie Dolls. Circulating through what Candy Pratts Price, fashion director of Harper's Bazaar, called the accessories crowd, Billy Boy was resplendent in burgundy dark glasses, a marbleized satin-lapel smoking jacket and black velvet gloves. Maripol, who designs jewels for Madonna, was also there, clutching a printed circuit-board invitation to a new club named for its address, 11 Beach Street (near Varick Street). Dress up and don't tell (or bring) the press/media, it decreed."

Ok , that's what you call being a socialite ( it's the 20th century equivalent for the 19th century word "mundane" )

here :

if you scroll down this page you will find pictures of the article I had in mind ( I read that as a teen) , the link is Fondation Tanagra , the pictures of the cover of ACTUEL and the article , are quite small after the text but you can click on them and can see a picture of BillyBoy* in company of Erté in his house in Ibiza . I could translate some lines for you.

You can also see many pictures of BillyBoy* in mundane situations, with famous people like Sonia Rykiel and Bettina Graziani ( last companion of Ali Khan , the son ....)

enough for the quaificative "socialite" ?  :-)

you have a good day,

Jean-Marc

is it possible to put picture in this conversation ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Suzy Wong (talkcontribs) 07:43, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Bonsoir,
I saw on another page , that Billy Boy interfered with some authority, I'm sure you will find out everything I said at first was true . I quite familiar of the fondation Tanagra , for BillyBoy* has been one of the people I follow since i was a teenager..... I do understand my text was lacking backing articles .I am gonna follow the thing and help as much as I can.
Sincerely,
Jean-Marc — Preceding unsigned comment added by Suzy Wong (talkcontribs) 21:51, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

Hogwarts

Hey Sladen,

Hope all has been well. Now that the Hogwarts Express article has been copyedited I was thinking of nominating it for FAC. Would you mind reading over the article if you have time just to ensure there are no other prose issues? I will be doing the same within the next few days.--Dom497 (talk) 03:16, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited BillyBoy*, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Yves Saint Laurent. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I stupidly placed the edit on the wrong talk page...it should have gone here: Talk:Fairmont_Royal_York. I've moved everything over to the proper talk page. Am I good to post myself (with paid disclosure)?
Also, I have similar edits for all the hotel pages that got deleted. I'm totally OK with only changing the history parts of the pages and leaving the commercial parts alone. Can I just go ahead and post (with paid disclosure) or do I need to go through this process on all 30 pages? Blueberry Hill (talk) 13:16, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
Done [30]. As the request was initially made on the incorrect Talk page, please try to leave it a few days for any suggestions/comments from other editors. There are also a couple of factual dates that ideally need finding + citing.
I'm not sure what the other hotel changes to are. But please try to think about the kinds of changes I've made here, and see if you can see similar patterns that can be changed. Then you can ping me about those for help/review and over time the material you're writing should hopefully become closer to what Wikipedia's policies require! Hope it helps, —Sladen (talk) 18:05, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Much obliged for the help so far. I have roughly 30 more pages from which I believe I can distill the "acceptable" elements for inclusion in Wikipedia. Clearly, I don't expect you to repeat this process 30 times and I don't expect to find 30 other people as generous as you have been. Would a good process be to give others "several days" to comment on the sorts of changes that I made with the Royal York and, if nobody does, then post the changes? Note that I'm limiting myself to the history and background of each hotel...and keeping away from the commercial aspects involved. Blueberry Hill (talk) 21:46, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

Blueberry Hill, I am happy to help you with all thirty, as long as for each one of the thirty it becomes easier/less involved—ie. you are learning what is appropriate and the WP:MOS, and self-correcting the next one before asking for checking. I've added a few [vague]/[clarification needed]/[citation needed] flags. For the Talk:Fairmont Royal York, if you want to say that Elizabeth II used, or even preferred, the hotel, then that needs to be citing; or if it can't be cited, it needs removing. And some of the others; the references to the "lakes" aren't apparent for a non-local, fill out the appropriate lake and wikilink it. The "building" (singular) vs. "row of terraces" (plural) needs clarifying in the second line needs clarifying. If you're able do these corrections, I can double check them one last time (hopefully); and in the mean-time you can also prepare your proposed changes for the next article on its Talk: page and ping me for that one too! But lets basically do them one-at-a-time, so that a process of incremental learning can happen. —Sladen (talk) 11:50, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Thanks for all your work on this article. However, it's clear that you're actually attempting to write an article on the as-yet-untitled TV show, and are padding the article out with the internal organizational details of the production company. But these details don't belong on Wikipedia, any more than they would for any other TV show.

Following common practice elsewhere in Wikipedia, I suggest we rename the article to "Untitled Amazon motoring show", and refocus the article content accordingly. – Smyth\talk 13:34, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

I would appreciate constructive input on how to make the subject of the W. Chump & Sons even more abundantly clear; in the version I'm looking at there doesn't appear to be any mention of "Amazon" until near the bottom of the article. Per your comment above, I have now prepended a {{split section|Untitled Amazon motoring show}} to the two paragraphs presently in the W. Chump & Sons#Filming section—is this what you had in mind? (Perhaps these six sentences could be enough to get a stub article about an Untitled Amazon motoring show started, and I would encourage somebody else to try, perhaps with the proviso to see WP:CRYSTALBALL first). Thank you again for the appreciation, and I'm glad that the W. Chump & Sons article has been useful to somebody. —Sladen (talk) 14:55, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
