Grand Theft Auto V

By Wikipedia's policies on reliable sources, they are to be determined by not only the publisher, but also the writer themselves, and more importantly, chosen by context. In this case, the lack of citations, research, and fact-checking by the IGN editor demonstrates it is not a reliable source, which is a situation specifically described in Wikipedia's reliable source guidelines. I will add more sources, including a video which shows the character selection screen in the original GTA game. You can keep or remove any of these sources, or add new ones which are more to your liking. However, I ask that the information itself not be reverted to misinformation. Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Jonah Hex: Revenge Gets Ugly EP, makes articles harder to read. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. For further information, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Review sites. Malconfort (talk) 23:18, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for your help on the article. I've been working to get it to Good Article status. I just wanted to point out that Game Rankings is actually GameRankings (no space). Thought that might be useful in the future. Thanks for your edits! --Teancum (talk) 00:08, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Edit notice

Please don't start edit wars; I've raised the Halo:CE or Halo Combat Evolved issue up on the take page. Screamo

Hello dude, has been decided a while ago on the talk page, etf that is not screamo. By the fact that they have so much Users saucepans like you persists in putting screamo in the genres. Etf is not screamo, is post-hardcore, hard rock. Those in that genres of your sources, http://www.allmusic.com/album/theres-no-sympathy-for-the-dead-r832805/review, http://www.allmusic.com/artist/escape-the-fate-p782945/biography, http://stevenieca.com/tag/escape-the-fate is surely placed by someone who does not know right styles of music, and begins to be labeled, putting screamo in the genres. And these sources when you put, are of older releases of 2005, 2006. Find a source of some most recent releases, on a experienced music site, and see if you can find something saying that the etf is screamo. And this last source you put it, is a source of DOWNLOAD, download is not a source, is a propagand.

Screamo is one specific derivative form of hardcore punk. It has nothing to do with heavy metal. It denotes a fusion of hardcore punk and emo, generally featuring emotional lyrics, transitions from soft to heavy passages, and screamed vocals accompanied by more melodic singing. The word screamo is misused all the time. People often call any music with screaming in it "screamo". But screamo is actually only one specific genre. The genre itself is still very popular. There are lots of modern screamo bands that more-or-less still meet the same basic stylistic requirements of screamo.
Post-hardcore is a direct derivative of hardcore punk (hence the title post-hardcore). It simply defines any modern hardcore punk with high levels of experimentation. I know you didn't ask about this genre, but I felt it appropriate to mention. Post-hardcore represents a very wide range of musical styles. Post-hardcore bands may take influence from many other styles of music, and are often closely associated with alternative rock or punk. What identified post-hardcore, though, is the inclusion of hardcore punk elements like screamed vocals. If a band uses screamed vocals and heavy instrumentation, but is not heavy enough to be considered metalcore, then the band will often be labeled post-hardcore.

Halo 4 Original Soundtrack

Just for the record, the extra non-breaking space was actually a change that was applied automatically by the software I was using, via its automatic "correction" functions for typos and formatting errors, and didn't actually have anything to do with me personally. And an article being decategorized is a much more consequential and serious error on here than a simple spelling mistake, so you do have a responsibility to notice if your edits are introducing that error and to correct the spelling error manually rather than by simply reverting the edit which fixed the decategorization.

If you'll indulge me for a minute, though, I'm going to do a test edit to see if wrapping the name in our {{typo}} template will prevent that automatic "correction" from happening again. That template doesn't change how a word actually appears in the text; it just alerts automated correction tools to skip fixing words that are correct in a particular context but might be typos in a different one. I'll revert myself if it doesn't work, but if it does it'll prevent future problems without interfering with the actual article's readability. Bearcat (talk) 16:33, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

The good news it that it seems to work: I applied the typo template and then tried to edit the article again, and it didn't want to "fix" anything the second time. So, for the record, what you'll want to do on that article in the future, if you need to add more mentions of the company's name, is to type {{typo|7Hz}} instead of just 7Hz, so that if somebody else comes along in the future to make edits to the article via a software tool it won't try to "fix" the "spelling error" in the process. Hope that helps. Bearcat (talk) 16:41, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

Re: Halo 4

What else do you think needs to be done before we can take it to GA? User:GamerPro64 reminded me that the topic retention grace period of three months expires in early February, so this and the Halo 4 OST need to get audited by or before then. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 01:35, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

I'll see what we can actually reference in the synopsis section, although I'm hesitant about adding more stuff in considering how long it is. I'll ask for comments on WT:VG. Since you've done the lion's share of the work on Halo 4 I'll leave you to that, and I'll focus on the OST (and Halo CEA but that's another project and it's up for peer review anyhow.) "What platforms is it coming out for?

Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, “future generation technology” (read: Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4)."

Seems pretty straight forward to me. Definitely worth mentioning in Destiny (video game) and Bungie.Brightgalrs (/braɪtˈɡæl.ərˌɛs/)[1]

Also note how while they speculate PS4 and Xbox720, I left that out in the edits I made to each article. Brightgalrs (/braɪtˈɡæl.ərˌɛs/)[1] 18:21, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
It shouldn't be listed until it is confirmed. Saying "future generation technology" is vague and refers to no specific platform. The1337gamer (talk) 18:29, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
It is confirmed. The phrase "future generation technology" comes from Bungie themselves when talking about what platforms the game will come to. You somehow equate that with speculation that it means PS4 or Xbox720, which in the IGN Faqs is even stated to be speculation. Brightgalrs (/braɪtˈɡæl.ərˌɛs/)[1] 18:33, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
Allow me to clarify even more. The source I gave (http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/02/17/destiny-quick-faq) was posted 32 minutes ago - right after the official Destiny announcement by IGN. Are you questioning the authenticity of the information of that source? I think you should do a little more research. Brightgalrs (/braɪtˈɡæl.ərˌɛs/)[1] 18:37, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
The phrase "future generation technology", says nothing about platforms. It might not refer to platforms at all. That's why it is speculation, IGN are interpreting this as it will be on next-gen consoles, but until it is confirmed, we do not know. The1337gamer (talk) 18:39, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
It doesn't need to say anything about platforms, IGN (the reliable source) says it has to do with what platform it is on. You are going dangerously close to Original Reaserch by stating the exact opposite of what a reputable source says. Brightgalrs (/braɪtˈɡæl.ərˌɛs/)[1] 18:46, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
Gameinformer and Eurogamer both report that Destiny being a next-gen title is not confirmed yet. All the games journalists attended the same opening at Bungie Studios several days ago. This is just IGN speculating, it is not confirmed. The1337gamer (talk) 18:43, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
"future generation technology" says nothing about it being a next-gen title. You are doing original research by stating that it does. Brightgalrs (/braɪtˈɡæl.ərˌɛs/)[1] 18:46, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
I'm not doing original research. I'm saying "future generation technology" does not imply "next-gen title", I'm not saying it writes it off or confirms it. You are implying that "future generation technology" means the title will arrive on another platform. I'm saying we don't know, and neither do IGN or any other news media yet, hence why IGN have not written anything concrete. It is vague and thus not reliable. I'm not saying IGN is an unreliable source, but speculation is certainly not reliable, context is important. The1337gamer (talk) 18:50, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
Here is where we are disagreeing then: I say IGN is not speculating by giving a direct quote (or what appears to be a direct quote '"future generation technology"'). I agree with you that they are speculating by saying "read: Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4". Brightgalrs (/braɪtˈɡæl.ərˌɛs/)[1] 18:55, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
"...for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and “future-generation technology” – a not-so-subtle nod to the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4."(http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/02/17/bungies-destiny-a-land-of-hope-and-dreams) Here have it in a more "official" format. Brightgalrs (/braɪtˈɡæl.ərˌɛs/)[1] 18:56, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
Note that this is different from the FAQs. Brightgalrs (/braɪtˈɡæl.ərˌɛs/)[1] 18:57, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
That's still not confirmation of actual platforms though. "future-generation technology" should not be listed. When platforms are announced then they should be listed. The sources I posted above do not confirm next-gen titles. If it was confirmed, they would have been definite about it. The1337gamer (talk) 19:05, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
Eurogamer and Gameinformer don't say anything about next-gen titles, that is correct, but they don't confirm that other platforms are not confirmed, if that makes sense. I don't think we should be looking for "confirmation" about anything. We should just say what is reported by reputable source, aka IGN.Brightgalrs (/braɪtˈɡæl.ərˌɛs/)[1] 19:07, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
I still think that until a platform (of which "future-generation technology" is not) is explicitly confirmed, it should not be listed in the infobox. The1337gamer (talk) 19:27, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, thinking it over I think you are correct. Still, it needs to be mentioned in the article somewhere. Brightgalrs (/braɪtˈɡæl.ərˌɛs/)[1] 20:01, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

"Destiny" premise

The1337gamer,

I have reverted your edits to Destiny (video game) in which you claimed that the "Premise" section was "a copy and paste from the narration of the video". This is not the case, because I have been editing Wikipedia long enough to know what qualifies as plagiarism and what does not, and so I was very, very careful when I wrote that section up. Furthermore, writing in prose is something of a speciality of mine; I refer you to the Skyfall, The Dark Knight Rises, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Quantum of Solace pages. Each of these has a "Plot" or "Premise" section which was largely written by me; recounting these details is something of a talent of mine, and one of the very few things I do on Wikipedia outside my usual sphere of activity.

Please do not make the mistake of thinking that a person's ability to write in prose means that they have committed plagairism. These sections can be written in interesting ways that still retain their encyclopaedic qualities. As an example, I direct you to this. Prisonermonkeys (talk)`
