Hey- a tip!
This page is big. You should archive it ASAP. It makes for better communication when you don't have to scroll down to see the end of the table of contents alone. Just a thought. & no, this message was not meant to be the tipping point of archiving ;).

Does this thing archive automatically? ---Tommy (msg) 20:43, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
- Only some do, and that's with a bot's help. All you have to do is create the subpage [[/ArchiveX|ArchiveX]], X being the numbered archive it is, cut and paste all unwanted old text, and voila! Ooh, and also put the template {{archive}} at the top. 2D Backfire Master sweet emotion 20:47, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Re: Using Wikipedia
Re your message: Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. I must have wandered off right as you were leaving me the message. I have seen your name quite a bit reverting vandalism and CSD tagging to a lesser extent. You're doing fine with the vandalism reverts. You've beat me to quite a few reverts. You've been dealing with all of the vandals just fine. You got your talk page semi-protected, so you must be doing something right. =) I was confused on a bit of your message as I could read a part of it as if you were asking how your contributions were with non-vandalism reverting edits. Was there something in particular that you wanted me to look at? With all of your vandalism reverts, it was difficult for me to find what else you have been editing. I think my only real suggestion is something that I say to a lot of vandalism fighters: be careful of burnout. You're doing a lot of work here and it is fairly easy to burn out if you don't find other things of interest to do on Wikipedia or don't step away from Wikipedia from time to time. That's really the best advice that I can give you. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 04:11, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm Actually I think it's fun. I mean some of the messages are pretty funny. Although the incredibly high use of gay, fag, and even nigger/a, is concerning as well as a pedophilic message I saw last week. But Yeah, I see what you mean. Thanks very much for the feedback. -Tommy2010 10:56, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
- Are there any specific topics that interest you? Sometimes, you could just add minor bits of information with a reference. I assume you know how to make a reference, but never assume. - It is overwhelming at times. You don't necessarily have to find a niche either. Just do what you like. I think, however, that admins need to do some real edits occasionally. - PS. And what is a line cook?
- A line cook is a cook in a restaurant that prepares food. It is different from a chef as a chef creates the recipes, a sous-chef helps the chef and a line cook basically memorizes recipes and makes the food. Is it normal that a talk page such as this would get vandalized so much? --Tommy2010 13:12, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
- Er, no. All I know about restaurant mechanics is from watching Ratatouille a couple years ago. I don't even remember how it went. But anyways, best of luck, and if you ever need any help, just ask, me or the help desk. The latter tends to know more. 2D Backfire Master ballroom blitz 13:24, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

The childish insults thrown around by vandals is rather humorous and I'm glad that you are keeping a good perspective on it. Some user talk pages do get vandalized quite a bit. It depends upon how active you are fighting vandalism and which kinds of vandals you end up annoying. 2D Backfire Master's suggestions are good ones. You don't need to write a FA or even a GA. To use your work experience, you weren't expected to be the chef the first day you stepped into a kitchen, no? Adding content is a good way to keep yourself from burning out. Find something that interests you (it doesn't have to be anything that has to do with food), add a few things in, and see how it goes. Be bold, just add it. Or find a topic you like, put a few articles in your watchlist and see how other editors are adding things. Or join up with an appropriate WikiProject. Or start by just cleaning up an article by fixing the format or structure instead of attempting to add new content. As you become more comfortable with adding things, your edits will become more substantial. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 19:55, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. I will try to be more assertive with adding content in the future. What are WikiProjects? Ha that's funny but I like it. Tommy2010 19:59, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
- WikiProjects are groups of editors interested in working on a particular topic. There's the link to the master list. And often times you will find an a WikiProject has tagged the talk pages of articles in their interest with a header. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 03:41, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Trebuchet protection
Can you please protect it? It was recently protected, but obviously, 1 day is not long enough. Thanks, Tommy2010 22:29, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
- Well, the only vandals right now are school kids who are all in a certain range; I don't see any other vandalism attempt on this page made before today, so i really hope this will be one of those "Solved by the school-bell" cases where vandalism ceases and remains gone after an hour or so. Before these attempts the article has been quite 5 days; I kind of hope it can be maintained without protection for now, but i left the case open so other admins can evaluate it; My assumption might as well be a tad unrealistic. Yes. WP:RFP (if that doesn't link to requests for protection, that's what I meant to link) is solely for protecting/unprotecting pages, while WP:AIV fights vandalism. I don't know anything about Huggle, since I never use it. I do everything the old-fashioned way! 2D Backfire Master words deeds 11:23, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Charts
I just noted this edit, which unfortunately reverted a good change by an anonymous editor. It's tough when the anon doesn't leave an edit summary, but a good rule of thumb is that essentially no Latin American countries have valid album charts, and edits that remove them are generally sound. Recent reversion on Natural law
Hi there,
Out of curiosity, what was it that User:Woodysqd did on Natural law recently that made a complete redaction of his revision necessary? No doubt it was vandalism judging by his history but I've never seen mere vandalism completely redacted instead of just reverted, so I'm kind of curious. --Pfhorrest (talk) 00:31, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Could you protect my talk page? I seem to be collecting some fans. Much appreciated --Tommy2010 19:21, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- Might wanna check this out too. lol Tommy2010 19:25, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- I noticed his "Request" and self granted unblock on IRC, so i just removed his talk page access. I guess WP:POPUPS needs some maintenance as well as you can apparently block people without showing up as being an admin. O well, vandal logic i guess. As for protecting your talk page - well, it is mostly a case of "Not Done" par the protection policy because new accounts and IP's would not be able to contact you at all. If want talk page protection you should have a separate area where unconfirmed and IP users can contact you. In other words, it would just mitigate the problem. Though if you wish some short protection and won't mind an extra page for IP's and such I'll be happy to protect the main talk page.
- Oh, and if you meet another account such as our good friend, don't bother with level 1 warnings. If this is a users first edit just hand then a level 3 or 4IM and blast them to AIAV if they repeat. No need to assume good faith on those kind of edits :). Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 19:33, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- I think I'll just go to you. That was an excellent response. Although I wonder... what do you mean? Another talk page? how? Tommy2010 19:37, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

- Well, technically it is just a subpage which is being user as a talk page. For example, you could create the page User:Tommy2010/NonProtectedTalk (Or a similar name) and leave that one unprotected so that anyone can edit it. If you place a note on your talk page directing users there it can be used as if it is another talk page, while protecting your own talk page and other user pages from hostile edits. That way the junk will stay limited to one page that few users will actually see, reducing the damage hostile edits might do. Most times it is more convenient to leave the regular talk page unprotected though as sending users around and watching two talk pages is a tad more time consuming because you need to check two pages (And you won't get the message bar if someone posts on the subpage). Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 19:44, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Greetings and...
Greetings Tommy2010 - I see that you've reverted some vandal edits by 68.114.59.167 at Spanish cuisine and stuck a Level 2 warning on the user(s)' talk page. What puzzles me is that I had previously slapped a final warning there and you should (?) instead have reported it for admin intervention. The editor in question had made over a dozen vandal edits to that article in a day and by not carrying out the "threat" to block the IP it could be seen as just an empty threat and an invitation to continue vandalising. I realise that you might have a pedagogic intention for it, but please bear it in mind. It might also have been the symptom of an automated response to a particularly exhausting session of antivandal editting, and as such, a mistake, in which case I sympathise. Cheers! --Technopat (talk) 07:37, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- Youre right. That edit was made with huggle so that IP should have been reported. Why it didn't do that... beyond me. Usually it automatically does report vandals within a day of a lvl 4 warning. Tommy2010 07:50, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- Greetings again - thanks for reply. Keep on in there! Cheers!--Technopat (talk) 15:11, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for the welcome banner Dondervogel 2 (talk) 18:28, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- You offered to help if needed, and I think it is, so here goes: Long ago I joined WP as editor Thunderbird2. After some disagreements I gave up that account. I don't recall precisely when, but this is easy to check. I can't use that account now because I no longer have a password for it, so I recently started a new one (the account you welcomed), making no secret of my connection with the previous one. I would appreciate your advice regarding this , (plus surrounding discussion on the same page, as well as my talk page) shortly after which (at least) two entire active threads were deleted from the MOSNUM talk page. What do you think I should do? Dondervogel 2 (talk) 11:35, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- Some context: The above account and especially the previous one have been forum shopping the same issue for years. Right up to the point where multiple editors and admins told the account to drop the issue because it was being very pointy. The account came very close to being blocked for repeated behaviour contrary to Wikipedia policy and guidelines. There was a quiet period but now the same issues are being pushed by the same person yet again. I think a final warning to drop the issue and failing that a block is in order. I suspect others think the same way. The talk page sections were archived (not by me I might add) because one account repeatedly ignoring consensus does not make the topic active, it was also archived to try to stop the forum shopping by the account. Glider87 (talk) 15:03, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm a bit confused. If you only use one account, it shouldn't matter. As long as you are not (currently) banned or blocked, who cares? Tommy2010 15:47, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- Well, it's not much fun being accused in this way, so I care even if no one else does. Could you ask the editors involved at MOSNUM to stop making the accusations (and refrain from archiving active discussions)? Dondervogel 2 (talk) 16:20, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

- Hi Tommy it looks like you've been duped by Dondervogel's forum shopping methods. It is actually Dondervogel who is in the wrong by insisting that inactive topics are kept open way beyond consensus has already been reached. The user has a history of not accepting consensus and then shopping around to various talk pages in an attempt to push his point of view. He has been warned several times to stop this behaviour. Glider87 (talk) 02:04, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
- This issue was regarding accusations of supposed sockpuppetry, not consensus reaching. Tommy2010 02:06, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
- It isn't regarding sockpuppetry as such. What matters is that the user has a long history of pointy behaviour on this topic. That is why the talk page sections were archived to try to stop the user from continuing to beat the dead horse and forum shop. Glider87 (talk) 02:14, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

- Well, it's not much fun being accused in this way, so I care even if no one else does. Could you ask the editors involved at MOSNUM to stop making the accusations (and refrain from archiving active discussions)? Dondervogel 2 (talk) 16:20, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm a bit confused. If you only use one account, it shouldn't matter. As long as you are not (currently) banned or blocked, who cares? Tommy2010 15:47, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
This editor under his original name (Thunderbird2) had been told by an admin to drop it and stop flogging a dead horse. So he packed up his bags and disappeared for 14 months. Then he came back under a different name and started floggging the exact same issue that had long been settled and didn’t advise on the talk page as to who he was. Normally, that courtesy wouldn’t be required, but, persisting like that under a new name effectively circumvented what was heading for a topic ban (at the very least) or a flat-out indefinite block for gaming the system, forum shopping, and tendentious editing. - First, my identity was made clear on my user page from the beginning, as I believe is the custom. Second, the issue Greg_L refers to was not raised by me and was still live when he unilaterally chose to archive the discussion. Third, there was no topic ban (less still a block), so I could not possibly been avoiding one. Fourth, and most importantly, at least two accusations were made of sock-puppetry that have not been withdrawn: [1] [2] Dondervogel 2 (talk) 15:40, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
- I swear I thought I replied to this... wow I must need more sleep to get over this cold. Anyways, yes you did make it clear, but as the other editor has said, if you're continuing to beat a dead horse, long after a consensus, you may violate wp:point and be blocked for it, of course, if you're civil about it, no. But I think you all really need to talk to an administrator about this. Tommy2010 16:22, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

A question
Hey, Tommy. I was working on Turkish Wikipedia but I want to continue my contributions here, in English Wikipedia. I have created my monobook recently, wasn't sure about the shortcuts of all warning templates; so I don't have some coded between my scripts. I have my own "user.js" and "edit.js" As I know there are not same rules in all Wikipedias. But what about this? Is it a normal edit now? I do know users are very much free to remove their messages but it is supposed to archive them. Regards.--CnkALTDSmessage 21:08, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- Sure! See WP:Warn and remember to subst the templates. If youd like an example or help just ask --Tommy2010 21:09, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- Well, thanks for the reply. Hmm, I would like to ask few things. I'm still not sure I'm done with all templates, here is the monobook I have created and user.js I have coded some what I need totally. But It is still too less to inform all anonymous & new users. Also I realized some warning templates could be in a better visual style. If I would try to change some things generally, would it be a matter? Regards.--CnkALTDSmessage 21:25, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, do you wanna use wp:huggle? is that what you're asking? You only need a .css page for huggle and the program does all the templates. If you have some experience you are free to download it if you have rollback rights on the English Wikipedia. You can copy my page here: User:Tommy2010/huggle.css and paste it to your page (just change my username to yours.) Tommy2010 21:29, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- I only use huggle and twinkle and popups. You only need to check them in your prefs. and copy i think one code for popups. Thats it! :) Tommy2010 21:31, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- Try searching wikipedia for my name for the codes for my pages. Maybe that'll help you. (User:Tommy2010/ ...) Hope this helps --Tommy2010 21:37, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- Well Tommy, thanks a lot for your help. I have tried these commons twinkle scripts almost all wikipedians use here, but I didn't work for me. I haven't tried huggle yet. I am a former Turkish Wikipedia user. By a wrong investigation I am blocked indefinitely; guess still the investigation is in process on metawiki (maybe not). So I'm bringing all my scripts here. Just need few template codes; example {{welcome}}. This welcome template has really a simple view and I guess it could have a better visual style (maybe with few wiki-anime images). I will work on them. Thanks a lot for your help once again. Glad to know you! :)--CnkALTDSmessage 21:44, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Why are you deleting content on the Beavis page claiming it's vandalism? Have you ever watched the show "Beavis and Butthead" before? Butthead calls Beavis nicknames like "fartknocker" and that content is actually contained elsewhere in the page. 68.45.109.136 (talk) 02:01, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello Hey Tommy, I have a question for you. You see, I wanted to know why catching vandals is soo fast! I've actualoly tried it once to see and it went soo fast! Do you have ppl like guarding every page? How do u do it???? Its so crazy!
User may be evading block
Hi, recently you reverted some vandalism by User talk:Bearman5 on Valencia High School (Santa Clarita, California) and the user was indefinitely blocked 9 days ago. After that, a user named User talk:Bearman6 vandalized the same page and I reverted. My guess is that this is the same user evading his or her block though I have no real evidence other than the obviously similar usernames and vandalizing the same page. I am new here and don't know if anything is supposed to be done about this other than wait for them to do enough damage to be blocked and then wait for Bearman7, and then 8... Thanks. EdEColbert0585 04:40, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
- Excellent job. Yes, that clearly would fall under wp:duck. It looks like a duck it quacks like a duck. It's a duck. However, I can't block it. Since User:NawlinWiki blocked the sock 5, Id send him a message so he can block 6 as well. If this becomes a problem we can file an SPI report, but I think it's so obvious it would be a bit unnecesary. Thanks for bringing it to my attention Tommy2010 11:59, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
- PS, you wouldn't be related to Stephen would you? ;) Tommy2010 12:00, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

CSD G4
CSD G4 applies only to cases where something was recreated after being deleted as a result of deletion discussion. Normally, this is an article recreated after it was deleted at AfD.
In the case of Neopian Idol (deletion log), all the prior deletions were speedy deletions under criterion A7. Because the article never went through AfD, criterion G4 does not apply. However, criterion A7 still applies, because no assertion of significance or importance was made.
So the general rule of thumb is if a page is created, speedy deleted, and recreated just like it was, tag the new page with the same speedy deletion tag it had before. —C.Fred (talk) 01:53, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- Ah okay. Thanks for the clear up. Tommy2010 01:54, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Clam Chowder "vandalism"
Hi Tommy,
I do appreciate that you are looking at pages to prevent "vandalism" but I assure you, if you were ever to actually read the information and history on clam chowder, specifically NEW ENGLAND clam chowder, which is the original, it is made WITHOUT potatoes. Only imitations are made with potatoes/clam chowders of lesser quality. This is added because potatoes are cheap. The crackers are the original thickeners. I will be changing it back. Please do some research on the history of chowder if for some reason you still believe this is incorrect. As a clam chowder/seafood chowder aficionado, I assure you the chowder is TRADITIONALLY made without potatoes. Other types of chowder however, may have potatoes in them traditionally, but not clam chowder.
Best,
Josephine —Preceding unsigned comment added by TB272 (talk • contribs) 04:36, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- As far as I know all chowders have potatoes in them. However if you have a reliable reference that states what you said, it would be acceptable. Thank you Tommy2010 05:14, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- "Traditional" in the first paragraph suggests how it's commonly made, not the history of it. And I believe they usually do have potatoes. But I mean if you know otherwise please have a reference. Tommy2010 05:19, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Hi Tommy,
Yes, most chowders do have potatoes in them, but clam chowder originally did not. But, definitely my fault for not adding the source, thanks for reminding me. I forgot. I will go back and make the change with the reference. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TB272 (talk • contribs) 05:33, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Almost makes you feel bad for them. "But I was having fun vandalizing" awww, poor baby. Tommy2010 23:07, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I like how "you have been blocked indefinitely because your account is only being used for vandalism" is not giving a reason - and as if Materialscientist would do that anyway! Still reading that did make me laugh, specially when they've tried to make it look like it's from another user! --5 albert square (talk) 23:20, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

- Haha, yeah, dunno about the astronaut stuff. Snowolf had someone vandalize Artic Wolf in retaliation a couple days ago. Oh well. The humor encountered by the counter-vandalism forces...
- And while I was writing that he did it again on John Glen...Oh well, back to vandalfighting! --N419BH (talk) 02:01, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

- (Jes' butting in) You'd be surprised how many seasoned editors choose not to sign in, for many different reasons. It's a good lesson, especially for recent changes patrollers, to look further than just an IP address and possibly a redlinked talk page! Have fun y'all, Drmies (talk) 03:53, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Ayaan Hirsi Ali; please be more careful
Tommy, this was an abuse of rollback, which is intended only for the reversion of vandalism. Please take more care in future to avoid antagonizing good faith-contributors or this privilege may be removed from your account. 86.41.80.244 (talk) 01:54, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

IP Vandal
Hello. I just thought you should know that 70.91.138.233 has flouted your final warning and vandalised Midget in the last few minutes. How you deal with him/her now is down to you. User:Evlekis (Евлекис) 17:10, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- Reported to AIV. Thank you. Tommy2010 17:13, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- Also, most users of this shared IP (which you warned mere minutes ago) seem to have nothing better to do over the past few years than vandalise this site. 204.96.143.178 (talk) 17:49, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- It's okay, IPs can be blocked for years if necessary. If you create an account, you can avoid these warnings. --Tommy2010 17:51, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- Personally, I have an account. I was just wondering if a permaban for this IP was viable for the continued abuse. --204.96.143.178 (talk) 17:57, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- Pretty sure not, however in terms of heavy IP vandalism an IP may be blocked for a year or more, usually schools are subject to this. But it permanently blocked, I doubt it. Tommy2010 18:00, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- Anyone in particular I should talk to about this? --204.96.143.178 (talk) 18:05, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- Any sysop (administrator) would be able to explain more Tommy2010 18:09, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

WIMP
You have just reverted the changes in the WIMP article without correcting the sentence, which is not correctly written and does not make sense. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.188.0.22 (talk) 01:04, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

No Problem
Just trying to help. You might try using the yellow template at the top of my talk page. I borrowed it from User:JohnCD. I think that's legitimate under the licensing Wikipedia uses. I might try your editnotice template. Seems to be a good way to give a final reminder. --N419BH (talk) 01:52, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
- We'll see how well it works. Since that IP edit that you moved, I added the stop sign and adding more comments to the bolding. So, we'll see. Tommy2010 01:55, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

question
Last month, I wrote to you here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Tommy2010&diff=prev&oldid=357568905
The photo has been deleted. Where was the discussion to delete it. I would like to read the discussion. Thank you. Assorg (talk) 05:50, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
I see TheDJ deleted it. The consensus was keep but he said it was porn. My question to you is what is the difference between Commons and English Wikipedia. Why are some pictures on Commons and some on English Wikipedia? Are the standards slightly different? Perhaps, there are more Islamic users in Commons so their views are honored? Or some other reason? Assorg (talk) 06:11, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
- I have no idea, best to ask the deleting administrator since you know who it is. Sorry, Tommy2010 11:10, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

how do i add the status...
update to my page? έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 01:58, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
- This will take a little bit to explain so give me a few minutes because it took me like an hour to get myself. Tommy2010 02:04, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
- There are several steps and I am posting them one by one so don't reply here until I say that's it, but you are welcome to do these steps as I post them:
- Add {{Statustop|link=User talk:Xenocidic/Status|offset=80}} to the top of your user and/or user talk page. ...
- Go to your preferences at the top of the page. Add importScript('User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js'); (exactly as shown) to the skin's custom JS page that you are using Wikipedia. For example, monobook is the default skin. If you use that skin, click Custom JS (far right) and create the page with that formula. If you are using Vector, add it to the custom JS page to the far right of the Vector skin.
See if that works. Tommy2010 02:11, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
- so when i add it the the custom js page i should paste this importScript('User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js') έЯїᴄ_ᴐᴬṛṛ_ḟḁṉ (talk) 02:20, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, create the Custom JS page with importScript('User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js'); on whatever skin (under the Appearance tab) you want to use it with and save the page. Tommy2010 02:22, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
