External Links Complaint[edit]

hey will can you help. I am unsure why my links are being deleted and now blacklisted? I want to submit material in accordance with wikipedia guidelines, but am unsure why links to w i k i j o b are withdrawn, when other comapnies maintain their links when they offer substandard information. ?

Why does my Unofficial Link get deleted? SFGAm News, SFGAm World, and SFGAm Zone are still there along with SFGAm Pictures, and so on. Mine doesn't cut it though. Why, is it so different? It's Six Flags Great America Unlimited. I'm only putting it on the first page (Six Flags Great America). I'm not putting it on all the pages. It's not fair!! http://thrillridesweb.batcave.net/GAmerica/GAmerica.html

They did the same thing at Six Flags Over Georgia. It's the main page. It's Six Flags Over Georgia Extreme Machines. http://thrillridesweb.batcave.net/SFOG/SFOG.html It's only one link for each, and they are completely different.

How about Kiddieland Everlasting too? You took that one out. They AREN'T the same WEBSITE. They are completely different!!! Kiddieland information is different than SFOG, and SFGAm!! I'm not SPAMMING anything. It's giving people more information about the darn park. You should go to the links, and see for yourself. I know what you are thinking. You are thinking that I'm just using the same address at all these places. There is a difference between ALL three. They are different websites in one site.

Why would I link to the main page at one site like only at Six Flags Great America, and make them go to my thrillridesweb.batcave.net first page. I'm not going to do that.

Check each site out. They are there own entity with different information about each. The Kiddieland one is thrillridesweb.batcave.net/kidland/Kiddieland.html Can you please research before just looking at the darn addresses? I put pictures of Kiddieland on my website to help with your information, and the other sites too!!! It's NOT SPAM!! I'm sorry, but rcdb.com doesn't have anything in particular to do with Six Flags Great America. That should be under roller coasters, or something. I love that site darely, but it doesn't anything specifically to do with Great America.

It's already on all the roller coaster pages of probably about every roller coaster ever made. You go to America Eagle Ride page, and there it is on the corner. You go to some other roller coaster, and there it is. It doesn't need to be on the main Six Flags Great America page. I would be fine with keeping both rcdb, and mine, but I'm just saying that it doesn't specifically have to do with just Great America.

I don't even say from Mapquest or something like that. I don't get it. I try for people to see the information about Coasters, and Thrill Rides at the parks.

Auckland meetup[edit]

Just to let you know that a meetup is planned in Auckland for the 25th of June (see Wikipedia:Meetup/Auckland for more details), and that you are cordially invited. GeorgeStepanek\talk 00:21, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

RE: link[edit]

Hi - I removed the external link in the Roller coaster article primarily because it appeared to be a spam link. The wording of the link itself seemed to be there to promote the creator of the link (Joe Schwartz), as it mentioned him by name and included a second link within the link text to his website. If you feel the link is truly helpful to that particular article, I won't challenge it again if you add it (but I do recommend reducing the link wording to "a map of various roller coasters in the United States" or similar. Even better, you can also post the link on the article's talk page and let others discuss its inclusion. Let me know if you have any other questions --AbsolutDan (talk) 20:36, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm glad we were able to reach an agreement on this. Just one minor point - though I may at times speak in an authoritative tone, I'm not an admin here :) --AbsolutDan (talk) 22:13, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Additions to coaster infobox require article updating, need help[edit]

I've made several large additions to the {{Infobox roller coaster}} template, which will require updating of EVERY article using it. These additions are automatic unit conversion for the statistics and automatic categorization. I have also provided full documentation of every parameter on the template page, which I strongly encourage you to read. Every article will need the following changes:

  • These parameters must be delinked: location, section, manufacturer, and type. They will be automatically linked, and will (except for section) be used for automatic categorization.
  • The type parameter must be Steel or Wood.
  • The secondary type (Inverted, Floorless, Duelling etc.) should be moved to the type2 parameter. If a second secondary type is necessary, it goes in type3. In either case, don't link them, it will be done automatically.
  • height, drop, length, speed, and restriction must have all non-numeric characters removed. height, drop, and length must be expressed in feet (using decimals instead of inches if necessary), speed must be expressed in miles per hour, and restriction must be expressed in inches. All of these parameters will automatically be converted to metric and displayed in both forms.

Also, the rcdb_number parameter should be added to every coaster article that doesn't have it yet.

If the article is about a widely-cloned coaster such as Batman: The Ride where the template covers multiple installations of the same coaster, the redesigned template will not be appropriate. For these articles, simply change the template to "Infobox roller coaster simplified". This is the old version, without all the automation.

I've already updated over 50 articles myself, but I can't do this all day and I'll need your help to get it done quickly. The list of pages using the template can be found here. I'm sending this message to all listed participants of Wikipedia:WikiProject Roller Coasters. Dusso Janladde 07:43, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Brain Teaser AfD[edit]

To all WikiProject Roller coasters participants: Brain Teaser, a kiddie coaster at Six Flags Darien Lake is up for deletion via WP:AFD. This isn't my article, but if it's deleted, it sets the prescident for many small coasters to be deleted, such as Mild Thing, which runs counter to the Coaster Wikiproject and also will make a lot of park templates look dumb since they can't include all coasters. WikiProject Amusement Parks[edit]

I don't know if you saw it yet, but I added myself to the WikiProject Amusement Parks that you started on User:WillMcC/WikiProject ThemeParks and made some suggestions on the talk page. There were also a few people on Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals that mentioned wanting to start a theme/amusement parks WikiProject, so I let them know about the page you started. You might want to add yourself to that list too. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 03:34, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Image:Kpk small.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Kpk small.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 00:13, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Amazing disappearing links![edit]

Wow look at that! I didn't think adding the longest running Universal Orlando fansite to the list of the rest would be such a big issue - but hey, silly me! It's promoting!

Thanks for welcoming me to Wikipedia - but not even twelve hours into my registration I see some disturbing overthrows of power that wont make me want to even bother.

Let's hope I'm wrong.

  • Edit - Thanks for the advice, I don't know much about editing pages and such - if I plan to continue I'll get the hang of things - it doesn't seem too complex. I only really popped in to add those links (after discovering one of my websites had been used as the sole reference to another section of Wikipedia) and didn't think it would be such a deal (if people can create pages here using my content without consulting me, I find it really condescending that I can't reference my site without consulting someone here). Either way it doesn't mean enough to me to submit for approval and whatnot - afterall, I thought that's what the "minor edit" option was for. Again, I appreciate you aiding me along the way. I'll stop by if I have any questions. (Just figured out how to sign!) --IOAFreak13 04:40, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Image licensing[edit]

Which license is Image:Spcyclone.jpg under. You say it is under Creative Commons BY-SA, but you also say it is free for non-commercial use. These are contradictory and wikipedia cannot take non-commerical only images. Secretlondon 05:28, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

amusement park template[edit]

I have asked over on the amusement park project talk page, but gotten no reply. Is it okay to put your amusement park template on articles that should be part of the amusement park project? I noted you have a question about the image in the template, but not alot of activity over on that project right now. I was not sure if there was some sort of approval process for the template and if that had been completed so it was okay to use. thanks. --Tinned Elk 01:57, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Apexmenu.jpg[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Apexmenu.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Infobox abuser[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you've also warned the IP adress 71.33.162.242 who seems to be constantly messing up infoboxes - I think unintentionally, but 2 warnings and nothing's changed. Just wondering if you'd be able to help with the resulting clean up from it all, edits are here. I'm not too sure what we can do either, it's not a case of vandalism as such, but more of not reading talkpage warnings. What do you think? Seaserpent85Talk 23:46, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Truegrime.jpg)[edit]

Ambox warning blue.svg Thanks for uploading Image:Truegrime.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Digital campus photos for revamped UF articles[edit]

WillMcC, can you find me a good, clear perspective shot of the University Auditorium? I would like to use it on the revamped Albert A. Murphree article, as a righthand shot next to the "See also" listings. Murphree was responsible for getting the construction of the auditorium started. Also, I am looking for a digital close-up of the gargoyles and other carvings around the Sledd Hall (or Buckman Hall--Sledd and his wife lied in Buckman in 1906-07) passageways and entrances----can you get one? Similar to the Murphree article, I would like use the described shot as a righthand photo to partially fill the white space by the "See also" article listings on the revamped Andrew Sledd article. And . . . a nice digital perspective shot of the front side of Tigert Hall for use in similar fashion on the revamped John J. Tigert article? Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 02:08, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

I'll see if I can get some shots this weekend. For the auditorium, do you want the interior or the exterior? I'm not sure if it is possible to get the interior (I doubt it is open to just anyone), but I'll see what I can do, as interior shots would be nice to have. --WillMcC (talk) 16:22, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Thank you, sir. I was looking for blue sky exterior shots, from a nice angled perspective. Interiors might be nice, too, if you can get access. There is an existing exterior shot on the UF main article page, but it has a horrible sun reflection on the west side windows. Can you manage some of the Sledd, Buckman and Tigert exteriors, too? In particular, I am looking for some of the stonework details on Sledd and Buckman halls. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 16:28, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
WillMcC, have a look-see what I have done with your photos on the Andrew Sledd, Albert A. Murphree and John J. Tigert articles. I would like to do something similar for each of the UF presidents. It's an opportunity to use some of our better digital campus shots, add some color to these articles, fill some white space adjoining the "See also" sections, and illustrate buildings that were associated with these men. I'm still playing with the photo placement, but I think you will get the idea. What do yout think? Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 15:52, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
