Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology, formerly known asVeltech Dr.RR & Dr.SR University. This Institution is commonly referred to as Vel Tech, is an Indian higher education institute located in Avadi, Chennai.Vel Tech offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in engineering and technology, in addition to a Master of Business Administration. It consists of four other campuses such as the Multi tech, High tech, VTRS and the arts and science. The college is known for its strict regulations which have been changed along with the years.

History

Veltech was established in 1997 by Dr. R. Rangarajan and Dr. Sagunthala Rangarajan as an engineering college affiliated to the University of Madras , with courses in computer science & engineering, electronics & communication engineering and electrical & electronics engineering. From 2001 the college was affiliated to Anna University. The college was recognised as a deemed-to-be-university in 2008.[citation needed]

Accreditation

In November 2014 Veltech received Tier I accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation for its aeronautical and mechanical engineering undergraduate programs.[1] In December 2015 the university was accredited with an "A" grade (the highest grade) by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.[2]

Academics

Veltech offers academic programs in engineering and technology, science and management. Veltech offers 10 Undergraduate, 17 Postgraduate (in Academic Stream) and 2 Postgraduate (in Industry Stream) Programmes in Engineering and Technology and Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Academic with various specializations. Veltech also offers Doctorate programmes under all the Engineering departments. All programme follow Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). This system enables Learning at one’s own pace, Option to change the branch of specialization, Choosing the courses of one’s interest from an extensive set of elective courses from various categories, Option to choose the professors, Undertake full-time project works in India & Abroad, Transfer of credits from/to other reputed Institutions in India and Abroad and pursue value-added courses for attaining high degree of professional competence.

Vel Tech was ranked 77 among engineering colleges by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2018.[3]

Vel Tech has been recognized as the Best Engineering Institution and ranked as First in India and 74th in the world by Times Higher Education World Young University Ranking 2016-2017

43rd in Asia by Times Higher Education Asia University Ranking 2017.

Academic activities

Veltech has adapted the new pedagogical process called "Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate" (CDIO) approach.[4] CDIO imbibed syllabus helps the students to acquire professional, personal and inter-personal skills systematically.[5]

Location

Veltech has a campus of about 103 acres. The Campus is located on the Outer Ring Road in West Chennai, Avadi. The nearest airport is Chennai and the nearest railway station is Chennai Central. All suburban trains stop at Avadi junction which is about 25 to 30 minutes drive away from the campus. The campus is accessible by road from Chennai, Bengaluru and Andhra Pradesh.
