Pokemon species lists - the WP:POKEMON saga continues

So, I've been over at WP:VG talking about getting rid of the goshawful List of Pokémon (1–51) to List of Pokémon (650–721) series of listcruft articles; the discussion here goes into my rationale as to why.

So far, consensus seems to indicate an opinion that we don't need the "detailed lists", and the List of Pokemon article will suffice-- thus, I'm making preparations to mass-AfD the "detailed" listicles. I'm going around a few more related Wikiprojects to sample opinions, to see if this is going to be at least mostly considered a good idea-- thoughts? ᴅʀᴀᴄᴏʟyᴄʜ - 15:58, 8 October 2015 (UTC)

To centralize discussion it would likely be best to respond where I first posted. Thanks, ᴅʀᴀᴄᴏʟyᴄʜ - 18:30, 8 October 2015 (UTC)

MissingNo.

So, the article on MissingNo. says that it is only in Red and Blue, which, I'm sure most of you who have played long-term would know, is incorrect. I was just wondering what the general opinion is on it, and how we should go about fixing it. Any help would be nice. Thanks. Going more in depth of what Pokemon actually is

I want to go more in depth of what Pokemon actuallyis.

I plan on making edits to articles on the Core Series Games, the Pokemon game in general, and the game-play aspects of Pokemon. I already made some major/minor changes to Pokemon articles, so I think I've already started.

On a side note, Wikipedia needs to be easier to navigate through.— Preceding unsigned comment added by ~Woolphie~ (talkcontribs) 15:38, 26 January 2016‎

DYK for Sun and Moon

For those that may care: I have started a DYK nomination for Pokémon Sun and Moon. Feel free to lend a hand in the process or otherwise get involved. It's located here: {{Did you know nominations/Pokémon Sun and Moon}}—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 14:17, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

Asking for more input

Hello. I think more people should weigh in on the discussion at Talk:Pokémon Sun and Moon#Japanese Titles Added. It looks like two people have decided that this one Pokémon page should be formatted differently than all of the other ones based on a guideline that no other Pokémon or video game page in general uses.--OuendanL (talk) 23:09, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Idea for addition

Hello, I recently have been playing the pokemon games on my android tablet with emulators and found that there is a wide range of pokemon games that are called "ROM Hacks". A lot of these games are quite well made as is the one i am currently playing called Pokemon Light Platinum (a gba spin off of Pokemon Platinum for the DS) and got to thinking some of these "ROM Hacks" might make for good reading along with being well worth checking out if you would like. There are other ones as well you can find them by doing a simple search on google (or your preferred search engine) for Pokemon ROM Hacks and many of them are group projects that have grow to full games with there own plot line as well as new "Hack Pokemon". Just a suggestion as an off topic that might interest fans since these are fan made unofficial versions.RogueDzro (talk) 02:15, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

I have promoted Pokémon Theme from a redirect to a "Start" article

I have done this because of the theme song's legacy. Also, unlike the last attempt to create the article, I have added sources. Yoshiman6464 (talk) 18:15, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Proposed article

I've started a draft Draft:Pokémon Generations (anime). Its a stub at the moment, and much of the information is already stated at Pokémon (anime)#Spin-offs, but as more information circulates and as more episodes release, enough information will become available to warrant its own article. Until then, we can work on this draft as what's essentially a seed article. —Mythdon 07:08, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

An offline Pokémon app

Hello everyone,

The Kiwix people are working on an offline version of several Wikipedia subsets (based on this Foundation report). It basically would be like the Wikimed App (see here for the Android light version; iOS is in beta, DM me if interested), and the readership would likely be global: we get downloads from A like Antarctica, to V like Vatican, and anywhere beofre and beyond. At least we'll try to see if there's interest.

What we do is take a snapshot at day D of all articles tagged by the project and package it into a compressed zim file that people can access anytime locally (ie once downloaded, no refresh needed). We also do a specific landing page that is more mobile-friendly, and that's when I need your quick input:

  1. Would it be okay for you if it were hosted as a subpage of the Wikiproject (e.g. WikiProject Pokémon/Offline)? Not that anyone should notice or care, but I'd rather notify & ask
  2. Any breakdown of very top-level topics that you'd recommend? (see Wikipedia:WikiProject_Medicine/Open_Textbook_of_Medicine2 for what we're looking at in terms of simplicity) Usually people use the search function anyway, but a totally empty landing page isn't too useful either. Alternatively, we could take the available book and use it as a basis for a Light version (early feedback has is that people will rarely use more than 100 Mb of disk space for any given app).

Thanks for your feedback! Stephane (Kiwix) (talk) 13:21, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:51, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

@Diriector Doc: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Incineroar. Is there anything else I need to fix? --JTZegers (talk) 12:54, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
Okay. let me just come out and say that this new draft isn't much of an improvement from the original. I, for one, really want to see this article come back, but this new draft does not fix the problems that ultimately brought the original to its demise.
The reason this article for deleted in the first place was because, although there were a plethora of sources, none of them proved that Incineroar's character was notable enough to have a designated article (which I would disagree considering how much information is provided at List of generation VII Pokémon).
Additionally, and this is probably from lack of experience, the article is rather sloppy. There are many red links, the citations are not formatted properly, and the wording is poorly done. Please do not take my words as discouragement. Good writing comes with experience.
As much as I would like to see it, I don't think this Incineroar will become a designated article again ant time soon. I know it's a shame, but there isn't much that can be done as of now. --Diriector_DocTalk

@Diriector Doc: Ok so I just made some changes to the draft, but I'll work to make it live up to expectations. Hopefully, we will get this article back soon. We are in this together to make Incineroar great again!.JTZegers (talk) 16:32, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
@JTZegers: While I appreciate the enthusiasm, pleaser read WP:GNG and also skim through Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Incineroar. As I said, the character lacked notability. Sure, the sources said a few things about it, but a reliable source needs major coverage to justify notability, not just a sentence or two. The structure of the article isn't the main concern as it can always be changed. Please keep in mind that notability is different from popularity.
But once again, I would very much like to see the article come back, but the draft doesn't fix the notability problem. And until it does, I honestly feel like the effort put in is being wasted. Until something is released that puts Incineroar in the spotlight, the article will never have enough to it that proves notability.

P.S: Peas do not perceive this as me saying it won't happen. I am in favour of its return, but I also believe it won't happen. I was in a similar discussion over on Bulbapedia over an edit conflict. It got reverted beyond my control and when someone tried to bring it back, I took the side of the moderator even though I wanted to see it come back. This is a very similar predicament, and I want you to understand that I am not the one you need to convince.

@Diriector Doc:-I won’t. So basically the main problem is the sources and the fact that there’s not enough notability? I know he's too new to be that significant, but I think SSBU put him in the spotlight. Well, if the haters don't agree, someone will have to find another way for this to work. Also, not all the sources are lacking notability, there are some good ones. JTZegers (talk) 19:09, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

Maybe if you cannot get enough information you should get rid of the article? There really isn’t anything that makes him the most important pokémon of the generation. Instead you could use pokémon like the legendary pies of the generation. They could be mor notable. Me6481 (talk) 06:55, 7 May 2020 (UTC)

@Me6481: I think it just needs to be a little more detailed. Somebody needs to help out and make a section about his appearances in the Anime, because I have never watched the anime. For example, Professor Kukui had an Incineroar. Respond with "@JTZegers:" if you need to say something to me. JTZegers (talk) 18:00, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

Ivysaur & Charmeleon Article

Hi! I was wondering would anybody be ok with me making articles on Ivysaur and Charmeleon. At the moment I have created drafts for both (as well as Wartortle), but I was wondering should there be articles on these pokemon. In my opinion, they should. Ivysaur is the 2nd pokemon in the pokedex as well as being in two smash bros games and charmeleon is quite prominent in the anime and manga. I can't think of much for wartortle, however all 3 pokemon teach the player the player the core gimmick of evolution, as they evolved from starter pokemon. If you think these should be articles, I'd appreciate the help on the drafts: Draft:Ivysaur, Draft:Charmeleon, Draft:Wartortle. Also yes I'm aware of the pokemon test and the criteria needed. Thanks. Sirfetch'd

I'd like to make an article about Sirfetch'd but I'm not sure where to start. Can someone help me? UB Blacephalon (talk) 02:13, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

I would recommend starting here WP:AFC, but be sure that you can prove notability, as it will not get accepted until you can. (Oinkers42) (talk) 02:40, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
Well, that's the thing, I'm not sure what sites are notable. Can you help? UB Blacephalon (talk) 04:25, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
I think you are confused about what notability means. The sites don't need to be notable, Sirfetch'd needs to be notable, meaning there needs to be enough information about Sirfetch'd as a character to make it into an article. Sure, there is a lot to say about it, but the article is for the general public, everyone, people with minds of their own. We are saying that Sirfetch'd needs to be worth reading about by any random person that may stumble onto the article, not just those who know and care about it. If you can show that Sirfetch'd is notable enough for Pokémon fans and non-Pokémon fans alike to read up on, then it is a decent article that will be approved. --Diriector_Doc├─────┤TalkContribs 05:06, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
Well when you put it that way, almost everyone who's heard of gen 1 pokemon has heard that a lot of people have been wanting Farfetch'd to evolve for the longest time. Wouldn't that count? It's I think known for that. UB Blacephalon (talk) 15:47, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
The problem is that reliable sources, such as IGN or Gamespot, need to cover the character, preferably being the focus of an article. This prevents every Pokémon from having their own article. If you think that Sirfetch'd is notable, find articles from gaming or media journalism sources talking about the Pokémon. (Oinkers42) (talk) 16:05, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
What do you mean by that? Like if Polygon covers it, its a source? Isnt that what I need to do? UB Blacephalon (talk) 16:24, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

The demographic of manga Pokemon Adventures

Just want to ask for help (I have asked in Teahouse and someone suggested that I ask here). Regarding the classification of Pokemon Adventures, it should be both a children's and a shonen manga.

I have discussed on the discussion page, but no consensus was reached. The other party insisted that according to the serialized magazine, this manga should only be classified as children's manga. I don’t know if I digress too much on the discussion page, causing the other party maybe to think that I am distorting the facts and ignoring my arguments.

But I also listed many Japanese bookstore websites that classified Pokemon Adventures as a shonen (少年) manga (actually more than what I listed). And the series was also serialized on Sunday Webery an online platform that apparently focuses on serializing shonen manga. And Sunday magazines (the famous shonen manga magazine) has held 55 serial manga projects for the 55th anniversary (2014), Pokemon Adventures Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire is included in them, as I posted on the discussion page. (It was serialized on Club Sunday at that time, an online platform operated by Sunday magazine (Sunday Webery is, too))

Even Japanese, Chinese, Thai, French and Italian, etc Wikipedia classified Pokemon Adventures as a shonen manga for many years (and these pages are constantly being edited.) (this not as a only point of view that I quoted.) And Japanese discuss this manga on the 5ch shonen manga branch for many years. https://medaka.5ch.net/test/read.cgi/ymag/1602078249/l50 2001:B011:C007:5D8D:1C12:2933:C404:EE8 (talk) 17:15, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Incineroar

I'm sure we all know where this is going, so I'll just cut to the chase.

As many of you likely know, Incineroar is not worthy of its own designated article like some other Pokémon. Here are my arguments, feel free to weigh in. I'm not really in the mood to debate, so I'll probably just say "okay" and move on.

Notability

IMO, Incineroar if more notable than of few other Pokémon with their own designated article? What is so special about Jynx, or Chikorita, to warrant a separate page? Jynx doesn't even appear in Smash. Heck, even MissingNo. is a featured article (forget I brought this up, I love how it's a featured article). Why you hatin' on my boi Incin?

Reliable Sources

There are articles about insignificant locations on earth with fewer sources about their respective topics. Incineroar has more coverage than these. Ever heard of Maja 'e Shën Mërtirit? Spotter Lake has a mere 2 citations. More info about Incineroar can be given than these two things. Why is Incineroar a special case?

Fails WP:GNG

It. Does. Not.

  • Significant coverage?
    • ✓ Core-series games
    • ✓ Anime
    • ✓ Manga
    • ✓ TGC
    • ✓ Smash
  • Reliable?
    • Bulbapedia is cited a lot, but that's really the only one. I guess polygon.com is also up for debate if you really want to, which I don't.
    • Although it's not common, primary sources are allowed. If there is information from the official Pokémon website, we can use that, right? It's rather hard to lie about a fictional character.
  • Independent of the subject?
    • Yes. As is every other Pokémon.

"Reads like a FANDOM Wiki page without any indication of significant coverage."

Okay, I'll give you that, but that's when you improve the article, not delete it. If I broke a fingernail, do I cut my finger off? Unless you are Hannibal Lecter, your answer should be "No, you do not cut your finger off."

Might I add, the original consensus was to keep it, but the nominator complained and it was relisted. (Not hate to them, they have every right to do this)

Plz Explain

I am mainly using rhetoric to prove a point. I know this is rather informal, but my point is there. --Diriector_Doc├─────┤TalkContribs 06:22, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Yes

I really don't get why they deleted that-it was a perfectly good article, and I tried recreating it but that didn't work because of the AfD. Heck, Ciney was actually my first smash main. Ever. Before I switched first to Lucario and then to Wolf. Someone's gotta do something.JTZegersSpeak

I note the outcome of a recent proposal that merged Pokémon Crystal into the other second generation articles. The consensus of the discussion was that the former article needed to be merged as it was too duplicative of Gold and Silver, but the article could be demerged in future if more sources and content was found specific to Crystal. I'm happy to say that I've drafted a revised article (Draft:Pokémon Crystal) that now has significant additions to the development, reception and legacy specific to this game and not its counterparts, and may warrant the return to a separate article, as with Pokémon Emerald. I'd appreciate your help in reviewing this article and confirming that it is in a state to separate from Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, and am happy to then work to demerge the articles. Notability discussion for Pokemon species

Hi, I'm doing a little thing where I get people together to determine the notability of a group of character articles, and the discussion can be found here. I invite anyone to join, whether they be interested in Pokemon or are simply hoping to clean up character articles. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 20:04, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Doesn't anyone have Pokémon on their watchlists?

Note: this notice is cross-posted at WT:VG, WT:A&M, and WT:JP, as well as WikiProject Media franchises.

Help is urgently needed at Talk:Pokémon. Any positive assistance is appreciated. Thanks! - Manifestation (talk) 15:20, 6 August 2023 (UTC)

Ongoing Merge Discussion for Lugia

The article for Lugia is currently undergoing a Merge discussion about whether or not it should be merged into List of generation II Pokémon. I post this mainly as the discussion has not had many people join in so far, and some greater input would be much appreciated for clarity on the situation. The discussion can be found here.
