The Transhumanist RfA

Hi. Perhaps it's my mistake, but I think you missed something in TT's answer to Q3. Would you mind returning to the RfA and double checking? Of course you're entitled to oppose, and you might still choose to do so even if I'm right, but I hope you'll agree it's good if stated reasons for objection are soundly based. Thanks. --Dweller 10:45, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

I don't see exactly where he or you state the answer. Could you direct me directly to the thing you're referring to? I'm not thinking straight. :P Jack?! 11:11, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to review. I appreciate it. In my nom, as TT refers in his answer to Q3, I harked back to the heated MfD he was involved in before his first RfA. That's a long wiki-time ago now. In his Q3 answer, he also gave some diffs for some more conflicts - this time, they're both recent and, IMHO, well-handled. I also gave quite a bit of space in my nom to my disagreement with him over the FLC... I thought he was heading for his old bad ways of conflict, but he gloriously disproved me. Perhaps I should have said so in my nom, but I think that his final comment to me is exactly what Wikipedia is about... debate your position hard, listen to your "opposition" and if there's merit in their position, take it on board graciously. He did all of the above and remained civil. I actually think there's quite a lot packed into a small area in his Q3 answer. (NB you may also want to check out his conflict resolution skills at the Paytakan dispute, which he handled masterfully - it's a model of dispute resolution) --Dweller 11:22, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Hey again, it's no problem at all. I see those diffs now. I will be changing to support per this conversation, but I still would recommend mentioning his previous conflicts more full on, as they don't seem to be mentioned, but they are acknowledged. Jack?! 11:29, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I'll be changing to just neutral. See the reasons I give there. Jack?! 11:33, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
As I said above, all I was looking for was for you to review your comment. That you decided to change your !vote in any way is beyond the call of duty. Thank you very much. --Dweller 12:03, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Details

Hi Jack, if you're looking at RFAs from before your rename, then unless those RFAs have been retroactively been changed to include your new name, you'll still see the old names. This is because the RFA Analysis tools simply read the RFA pages as-is. Does this answer your question? Cheers, Tangotango (talk) 19:37, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Trivial AWB edits

Please don't do trivial edits like this one with AWB: [1] Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser#Rules_of_use says: "Avoid making insignificant or inconsequential edits such as only adding or removing some white space, moving a stub tag..." Haukur (talk) 23:34, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Adopter

Hi Jack,

I've started to clean up the Adopters' list. You appear to have changed username since you added yourself to the list but not updated your info there. In case you're still interested, can you kindly update your information? Or, if you're not interested any more, would you mind removing yourself? Thank you and happy editing, Snowolf How can I help? 22:47, 21 December 2007 (UTC)~~

Thanks, Snowolf. I updated my name and activity. I'm currently a bit inactive due to a hectic school work schedule, the Christmas holidays and other reasons. For these reasons I am a bit inactive at the moment, but I hope to be back soon. Thanks for informing me, and sorry for forgetting! Jack?! 23:31, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your support in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate! I paid close attention to everything that was said, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because it's the holiday season and there are plenty of off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, Elonka 07:02, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Greetings from the League of Copyeditors. Your name is listed on our members page, but we are unsure how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the League's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the League, please follow the instructions at the members page to add your name to the active members list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarise yourself with the new requests system, which has replaced the old /proofreading subpage. As the old system is now deprecated, the main efforts of the League should be to clear the substantial backlog which still exists there.
The League's services are in as high demand as ever, as evinced by the increasing backlog on our requests pages, both old and new. While FA and GA reviewers regularly praise the League's contributions to reviewed articles, we remain perennially understaffed. Fulfilling requests to polish the prose of Wikipedia's highest-profile articles is a way that editors can make a very noticeable difference to the appearance of the encyclopedia. On behalf of the League, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you consider yourself inactive, I hope you will consider returning to respond to just one request per week, or as many as you can manage. Merry Christmas and happy editing, The League of Copyeditors.

Rollback

Hello Jack, I have granted rollback rights to your account. The reason for this is that, after a review of some of your contributions, I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended use of reverting vandalism: I do not believe you will abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck. Orphaned non-free media (Image:AlkalineLogo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:AlkalineLogo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 20:18, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Template:Hanukkah

A tag has been placed on Template:Hanukkah requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes.

It's ok! I like signing peoples autograph pages. And to be honest it isn't big compared to others. Some of the people up there like me might not have signed until they realised they could. Chubbennaitor 09:01, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Clearing it up

Response from my talkpage: Sure, I can clear up my response, thanks for asking! Adminship takes no more time out of one's schedule than editing. Perhaps that particular user should be doing something else (exams, work, whatever) than editing, but instead that editor chooses to volunteer his time to edit/add/build Wikipedia. So do I. It isn't really a valid reason to oppose someone's bid for adminship, it's like saying you "shouldn't volunteer". We're all volunteers. Just my thoughts, I didn't mean to come across bitey or accusational, just wondering if there was anything else you were opposing for beyond "you should be studying". Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:59, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick and clear response! Well, I just feel that the way in which he wrote "Wikipedia takes up a large chunk of my time; i should be revising for exams at the moment.." comes across as saying how it is a bad thing that it takes up so much time. I am also speaking from past experiences, Wikipedia can become addictive, and I feel especially for a new admin. Jack?! 22:04, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
(I'll keep this here, I don't like split messages, and now I can see you don't either! :-) I don't disagree that Wikipedia can be quite addictive! But it's what this editor chooses to do with his time. I understand your position a bit better now, but I'll reiterate that adminning is nothing special, and takes no more time or effort than editing. I would recommend if you revisit, that you should move to neutral, but do what you will based on your own criteria. Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 22:06, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
You do make some very good points. I think I shall move to neutral. I started with oppose mainly because I am in a similar position to Ironaces: I have exams coming up. I cannot support though and still this fact comes across as a bad thing to me. I just feel that users in his position really should focus on exams. I don't find much time to come on Wikipedia anymore, and if Ironaces edits at a similar pace to me, he won't do many admin tasks, and I've always dis-liked it when users become admins and make only several edits a week. I would also like to say this was a very pleasent discussion, and you are very clear, easy to talk to and polite. Thanks. Jack?! 22:10, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
I don't know what to say other than thank you, you're welcome, and thank you! Have a great day, happy editing, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 22:13, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

My RfA

Thanks for expressing your views and for looking at contributions as well as userpages :). I'll hopefully see you around wikipedia or in 4-6 months when I (hopefully) reapply. Best of luck till then, although the sheer number of barnstars you have implies luck isn't something you need! Ironholds 21:02, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
