French castles

I notice you made some edits to some of my pages on French castles and added some more to the List of French castles page. Many thanks for that. Somehow, I took on that page when I noriced that many of the entries there were not actually castles, but palaces or even vineyards - the problem from translating the French word château. Since then, I have slowly but surely translating as best I can suitable articles from the French wiki - a massive task (and getting bigger now you've added more!!). From your user name and looking at a list of your contributions, it appears that you also interested in French culture, so, if you have the time and the interest, how about joining me in trying to get some more castle pages in the English wiki?

Once again, thanks for your edits - much appreciated. Emeraude 18:29, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

I see you've added a translation of Château de Blandy-les-Tours from French. Well done. I hope you don't mind that I made a few changes, in particular to some of the vocabulary. The French use château fort to mean castle, as distinct from other type of château. Donjon is keep in English (dungeon being usually the underground part). Enceinte is best translated, I think, as the English arcitectural term curtain wall and cour as courtyard. Pierre meulière I think is millstone grit or gritstone, used of course for making millstones. I also took the liberty of adding the tag at the bottom to say that the article was a translation from French wiki. Great work - well done. Emeraude 15:51, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for going over my edits with a fine-toothed comb. Greatly appreciated. Kaustuv Chaudhuri 23:47, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Castles list

Thank you - a great holiday. I found some information about many castles in the Hérault departement which is now in Castles in Hérault and Château de Pézenas. (I actually stay in Pézenas several times a year so I know the area well.)

I am still not sure about how to arrange the List. I have kept my version up-to-date, so whatever is decided it should be very easy to merge yours, mine and the original. I have looked at the various French Wikipedia lists - the alphabetical lists are too complicated, but the lists by department and by region seem to be manageable. But which to choose? I think we only need one list. I am beginning to think yours is the easier, but the maps do get in the way. Smaller perhaps? Let's give it a few days and see if anyone else comments. I will also ask for suggestions from the Wikipedia France project and see if they have any suggestions. (See Wikipedia talk:France-related topics notice board.) Emeraude 11:27, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello! We are a group of editors working to improve the quality of France related articles. You look like someone who might be interested in joining us in the France WikiProject and so I thought I'd drop you a line and invite you! Cantons of the Seine-et-Marne department is informative, but I feel a template to it, showing perhaps the map would be more interesting, as not all are familiar with geography of France. Perhaps I will try to make a template which would ease up this work. Happy editing, STTW (talk) 19:07, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

DYK!

Updated DYK query On 26 January, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Château de Rochechouart, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Communauté de communes de la Brie Boisée, by Gordafarid (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Communauté de communes de la Brie Boisée is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Communauté de communes de la Brie Boisée, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Communauté de communes de la Brie Boisée itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 18:13, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Communes de France

HI thanks for your work on French communes I've been doing Pas-de-Calais and we still have tens of thousands of articles missing. I've just started Tortequesne but could you show me how to get the locator map working. I don't understand x and y. PLease respond thanks ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 10:57, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes - how do you know the x and y pins on the map? they look unrelated to the cordinates. You see I like yourself want to add a locator map for every new article as I feel they help people better ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 11:03, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

I've figured a way to get them from dutch wikipedia. I use the french wiki template and I can get them from dutch wikipedia. This way my new articles can be like Tortequesne. I would love to see an article on every commune in France standardized with a locator/map and infobox like this. I wonder why at over 2 million articles most of France is still missing when lesser wikipedias all have articles on them? Keep up the good work ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 11:08, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your clean up and improvements on Guimiliau, etc, the Breton parish closes. I got these started in August and September because I thought they deserved some real attention. Keep up the good work. Essonne was next on my list. I started with AIn and have now reached Doubs, I;ll continue later tomorrow. Sorry if they are stibs but I really want to kill of those red links which have been missing far too long. Its about time the pages were set up. What we want eventually of course is those lovely looking infoboxes and those good lookin maps that you do. Regards! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ $1,000,000? 22:37, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 17:41, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Parce

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Parce, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. FYI, when you change a redirect into something completely different as you did with Confort, it is best for the encyclopedic integrity of the project to at least include a DAB notice of what the original usage of the term was. Otherwise users looking for the original usage will be misdirected. AgneCheese/Wine 02:32, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Help with dermatology-related content

I am looking for more help at the dermatology task force, particularly with our new Bolognia push 2009!, history of dermatology, or list of dermatologists pages? Perhaps you would you be able to help us? I could send you the login information for the Bolognia push if you are interested?

I think someone with a French background would be a valuable addition to the dermatology task force as France is where modern dermatology really began (along with England) and, as a result, there are often terms that have French origins.

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:20, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

You will see that I undid your changes to this article, converting piped links back to links to redirects, then restored the piped link to Corte. This is discussed at MOS:NOPIPE. There are two reasons. First, when the user clicks on Villa Eugénie they will see the article Hôtel du Palais with a note below the title saying "(Redirected from Villa Eugénie)". If the link were piped to Hôtel du Palais they would not see the explanatory note, and may be puzzled about how they got to the hotel when they clicked on the villa. Second, Museum of the History of France, Versailles at present redirects to a section of Palace of Versailles, but could be given its own article in future, perhaps a translation of fr:Musée de l'Histoire de France (Versailles). That can take the redirect title, or the redirect can be changed to point to it, with no need to change the articles that link to it. But with Corte, there is some logic to a piped link since the name has other uses, although a link to Corte, Corsica might be marginally better in this case. This is picky stuff, but a good general rule is to only use a piped link when it cannot be avoided, as with a link to a disambiguation page. Aymatth2 (talk) 12:37, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Redirects

Regarding your edits here and here (and many others): are you aware of WP:NOTBROKEN? One of your changes in the latter (Mozart family grand tour) is a good example why redirects should not be "fixed": there's a good reason to keep Sonata in C for Keyboard and Violin (Mozart) instead of replacing it with Violin Sonatas, KV 6–9 (Mozart). -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 13:49, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
