- I saw that you have removed the Hollies pic from the Bradman article. The link above contains the pictures that I uploaded, four of which came from the same site (http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au), atleast two - possibly three - were taken in England. Welcome to Esperanza!
Welcome, Moondyne, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.
I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of JoanneB, FireFox and Titoxd. The next set of elections will be in April, we will keep you updated about the results. Because you are a new member, you are not able to vote in these elections, but you will be more than welcome to take part in the elections in June.

Perth dab notice
The reason I added it is that Perth, Australia redirects to Perth, Western Australia, which is the most obvious, but not the only, Perth in Australia. If the link is not present at the top of Perth WA's page, other options are:
- Convert Perth, Australia to a disambig page
- Redirect Perth, Australia to Perth.
- Re-add Perth, Western Australia's dab notice, and change it to specifically link to Perth, Tasmania.

- convert Perth, Australia from a redirect to a disambiguation page.

- I think "Secession movement in Western Australia" would be a more standard article title, although being more standard doesn't necessarily make it better. Your call.
- Since a "coffer" is literally a treasure chest where pirates hoard their ill-gotten riches, the term "federal coffers" reads as slightly pejorative to me. Can we come up with an NPOV replacement?

- Re two referenda: no idea. It's news to me.
- By the way, there have been a number of cases where a part of WA tried to secede from the rest of the state/colony. In 1900 when it looked like WA wouldn't join the federation, the goldfields looked to break away from WA so that it could join the federation itself. Also in 1900 Albany and the South Coast petitioned the Governor for secession. In 1956 there was a proposal for WA's north west to secede and join the Northern Territory, and it was came up again in 2001 as a threat if the one-vote-one-value legislation got up.
- I notice that the secession movement is still alive and well. Kerry Stokes called for WA to secede in 2003, and just last year Stan Gervas published "The great scam: 100 years of federation and what it has cost Western Australia".

Hi Ian, as an admin with quite a few DYKs, I was wondering if you were interested in updating this. At the moment it is a bit understaffed and an admin only pops by about once a day to update - The minimum is 6hrs, and everyday there are a few left off because nobody updates them in time. en.wikipedia.org data is no longer replicated to the tool server, so Kate's Tool and Interiot's Tool are basically not working. To get an accurate figure, you need to use Interiot's javascript tool. You have 10065 edits. Snottygobble 03:37, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Just to give you the full story, there's a big red box at the bottom of Interiot's talk page that says
- Starting Apr12, toolserver replication for enwiki was completely down, and toolserver data appears to be old. DaBpunkt managed to get replication working again, but 1) it is not replicating quickly enough to keep up with real-time, and 2) there is a bug in the replication, and most data replicated from April 12 on is corrupt, and should not be relied upon. Both issues are being worked on.

Wittenoom
I saw your edits to Wittenoom, Western Australia, and thought I'd blue the red link to Edward Wittenoom. Also did Charles Wittenoom, and turned Wittenoom into a disambig. In the process I discovered that Frank was Edward's brother, not his son, so made a correction to the town article. Adam Carr
Can you explain why you are reverting the Adam Carr article? It's been deleted before, and its new author is an enemy of Carr's who has made many personal attacks on him. Carr is not himself any more notable than the tens of thousands of political aides. His website may be impressive, but that doesn't make him notable. Gawks, youre copyediting the 11,000th incomplete project that lies smelling on the floor! May the grace of slick give you barnstarts that are not fatal or infectious :) The shift may have finished physically, but the head is in hobart, sydney and singapore still (only the latter two were visited in reality since shift). I do hope at least a part of the message makes sense, i have over a 100 small plants from the glen forrest wildflowers native plant sale to put out before next rain. after that i might make sense! cheers! trust you were well clear of the pubs last night! frankly awful
yeah when one's 15 year old uses wikipedia for homework the cringe is into deep despair, and one must reach for the captain beefheart cd, as for the 14 and 12 year olds they go on about forementioned tv unreality, and the articles i watch on something like the javanese volcano merapi go into the myre of such crap that i think conetemplating the navel of my intel imac would be more productive than to counter some of the rubbish that creeps in!! good to see you sandflatters plod on with humour intact :) SatuSuro 01:18, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Edith Dircksey Cowan Memorial images
Great, thanks! If there was ever an article that needed images, that was it.
Re: your creation of Commons:Category:Edith Cowan, I think the done thing in cases like this is to create a commons article on the person, rather than a category. In this case I had already created article Commons:Edith Cowan, and I have now added the memorial images to the galleries on that page. If you agree that there is no need for Category:Edith Cowan, you might like to tag it for deletion.
Finally, your Commons user page asks users to send you messages at Wikipedia rather than Commons, but rather unhelpfully provides a link to post a message to the talk page of your old account. Considering your old talk page is a redirect now, I have no idea what will happen if someone actually tries to use it.

- Yeah, I noticed your edits to some of the cricketers on my watchlist. Looked into it, and decided to metadata-ise my article contributions. Big job. It's surprising how long it takes to manually extract this info from an article. If only we had some metadata we could automate the process of entering the metadata! Deletion of image created problems
- 23:01, 7 June 2006 Moondyne deleted "Image:Nikolai Vasilyevich Repnin.jpg" (dup of img in Commons)

Metadata again
Hi Moondyne, I was going through some of the topics of my talk page & came across your comment about AWB. I'm sorry I totally missed it then. Anyway 10 days too late, I'll still answer the question. AWB doesn't have any huge advantages in adding metadata & the time taken is nearly the same. The only advantage is that you can load up the category for the metadata to be added & can reduce the number of clicks to reach the next page. Also it has an option of "Insert Metadata template" which makes work marginally faster. I have been a bit busy & so haven't been adding it for the past few days. I'll probably resume again soon. BTW I was chatting with Blnguyen the other day about how Cricket acivity seems to have dropped. Seems like we are not doing anything but updating stats & removing the occasional POV additions. - I trust that snotty/drew gets to read this as well - the 3 levels + of heritage designation has driven me gaga with some in the past (not wiki) - the federal heritage, the state heritage register, and the municipal inventories tend to get squeezed together by some - a bit like the olde days at electoral booths with the lucky ones who couldnt distinguish between the three levels of government!(what election am I at? etc) - a cover article is needed, otherwise it is potentially misleading! Eventually we should probably have separate categories for National Heritage listings in WA (of which there are only three), National Trust listings in WA (lots), Heritage Register listings (lots) and other listings such as municipal, plus a parent category to hold them all. - I don't know. IMHO, "heritage" is an overused, omni-inclusive wankword. I used it in the category title because the category is specifically defined in terms of the heritage council's heritage register; otherwise I would have preferred to avoid it. I guess I would be inclined to call your article something like Historic buildings in Perth, unless you are especially attached to the pre-/post- 1900 distinction, or wish to include buildings whose heritage value derives from something other than their place in history. - The issue can arise where heritage can apply to things other than buildings (ie i agree with ya drew) - maybe I would suggest it would be better as Historic Structures in Perth? A short Esperanzial update
As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Factoid Killer
Thanks for removing the abuse. I've accidentally made an interesting discovery:
Factoid Killer was the original account; it was around for a fair while, made some useful edits, built an identity. At some point the user spawned a series of abusive sockpuppets. Many sockpuppets were eventually identified as such and blocked, but it took quite a while before it was discovered that Factoid Killer was the main account of the puppeteer. Because Factoid Killer came to my attention so late in the picture, I made the mistake of tagging it as just another puppet of a later account, NSWelshman.
In this way Factoid Killer - the account with which the user most closely identified - was denied the infamy of being a disruptive sockpuppet mastermind, and tagged a mere pathetic sockpuppet; whereas NSWelshman - a mere throwaway abuse account with which the user did not closely identify - received the "glory".
Thus have I accidentally discovered a most wonderful way of denying sockpuppeteers the infamy they covet. Henceforth I pledge to tag all sockpuppet accounts in reverse, tagging the major perpetrators with lots of edits as sockpuppets of the obvious throwaway socks with virtually no edits.

- I've often wondered that myself. I searched all over when I first decided to create a Contributions page, but no luck. Special:New pages only caches a month or so of info, so its not much help. I imagine the most efficient way to do it manually would be to cut and paste the set of articles on your watchlist into a text editor. You could fairly quickly identify a large group that you definitely did create, another large group that you definitely didn't create, and another group that you don't really care whether you created or not. Hopefully that would leave you with only a couple of hundred articles to manually check.
- The other thing I wondered is what is my personal "oldest page" i.e. the page I created that has withstood the longest period of time without an edit. Eventually curiosity got the better of me and I manually checked. Murchison River, Western Australia has survived 15 months without an edit. Can't imagine why - it's not exactly comprehensive. (Lets get this out of the way: no I couldn't care less if you edit it and kill off my record) Snottygobble 11:51, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). I've had to revert your changes to dab page Gabba, because they followed an outdated MoS. Please see WP:MOSDAB, especially about:
- Only one bluelink per item, except special cases
- No bolding, except for the lead and sub-topics
Dab pages are only temporary navigational tools: if someone made a wrong link to Gabba in his article, and a reader clicks on it, the dab page's only goal is to help the reader quickly find which item is the one he wanted to read about, hence the single bluelink rule. It's not supposed to be a perfect dicdef for each item, but only a concise summary to decide which item is the one the reader wanted. (However, when an item is a redlink, the item's definition can be a bit more complete and/or include source, for further work.)
Actually, dab pages aren't even part of the encyclopedia, because we're supposed to regularly purge their "What links here" by fixing all incoming pages that are in error, so that each article directly link to its intended target.

I embarked on this as an experiment, with particular regard to the proposed naming conventions. Is it encyclopaedic? Is it too long? If so, is there a sensible way of splitting it?
There are 16 watercourses named "Spring Creek" in Western Australia. And two homesteads. We need to consider how to disambig one level down. I think Local Government Area is probably best.
One thing that's bothering me is the messiness of splitting suburbs/towns from rivers when they share a name: e.g. Boyup Brook. It is absolutely unacceptable to have different articles at Boyup Brook, Western Australia (for the town) and Boyup Brook (Western Australia) (for the brook); we'd be a laughing stock to anyone who wasn't intimately familiar with the conventions. The only solution that I can see is to put them at Boyup Brook (Western Australian town) and Boyup Brook (Western Australian watercourse), make a disambig page (e.g at Boyup Brook (Western Australia) and turn Boyup Brook, Western Australia into a redirect to the disambig. Messy.

P.S. Articles like SatuSuro's Nyaania Creek make a pretty good case for Category:Rivers of Western Australia to be renamed to Category:Watercourses of Western Australia. More verifiable that way too. Rivers
I've redirected links to a number of river articles that definitely belong at Whatever River (Western Australia). You probably noticed I moved Margaret back to Margaret River, Western Australia on the grounds that the town is more prominent than the river, and the article is more about the town than the river. Working on Swan River links now.
The Gazetteer confirms that Blackwood River is unambiguous within Australia, and a brief google suggests that it is unambiguous worldwide. Should it be at Blackwood River or Blackwood River (Western Australia)? The naming convention that we have just agreed on gives different answers depending on whether we use the version at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (places) or the version at WP:AWNB.

- Thanks for sorting out Margaret River, I agree with that. IMO, (is this a test?) the Blackwood should be Blackwood River (Western Australia) on the basis of consistency within rivers, and consistency with towns.

In List of postcodes in Western Australia, there's an entry for Gascoyne River, separate from the Gascoyne Junction entry. I checked with Australia Post's postcode search and it does indeed show a locality called Gascoyne River.

I'm not sure about this one. I also created titles with New Zealand, Pakistan, West Indies and Zimbabwe instead of nationality because I thought they sound better. The thing is that English cricket was already there and that does sound better than England cricket so it was a bit of a balancing act really! I have an open mind about Bangladesh so if you can effect a speedy then by all means.

Shopping Mall articles
Hi, you recently voted to keeep the article Macarthur Square. Could you please suggest something that could be added to the article to make it notable compared to all the other articles for shopping malls on Wikipedia? I ask this because I cannot see what makes one shopping centre notable compared to the one in the next suburb. Not every house has an article, why should every shopping centre? - Could you please stop changing 'rugby league' to 'Rugby league'. I have spent a lot of time changing articles that refer to 'Rugby League' to the correct lowercase. Whilst 'Rugby football' is the correct name for the type of football played at Rugby school, it is not correct to write either 'Rugby league' or 'Rugby League' (except when referring to the organisation). - The grammatical issue involved is that 'Rugby' is the name of a place and as such has a capital letter. This creates a grey area in grammar with words derived from place names sometimes being capitalised and sometimes not. 'Hamburger' comes from Hamburg but is not normally capitalised as this words have long since been so absorbed that nobody thinks of 'Hamburg' when they order a hamburger.
- Rugby league has little connection with the town of Rugby, Rugby did not even have a team until fairly recently. Australian football has a very strong connection with Australia which is why it is normally capitalised. Rugby league newspapers and magazines (in the UK at least) mostly capitalise 'Rugby League' (the sport) and use lowercase for 'rugby union'. This is why the practice is fairly common on Wikipedia.
- To be consistant, if you write 'Rugby league', you should also write 'Rugby ball' and 'Rugby shirt'. Very few people do and no dictionary would list this as correct. Certainly no dictionary would list 'Rugby Ball' or 'Rugby Shirt' as so 'Rugby League' is definitely wrong.
- Writing 'Rugby league' would also be inconsistant with the names of most other sports such as 'table tennis' (not 'Table tennis').
- Names of organisations, however, do take capitals so 'Rugby League' is correct when talking about the organisation of that name (as is the Rugby Union).GordyB 15:10, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Removing divert from Rugby League Football
Why the hell did you remove the divert from Rugby League Football to Rugby League. Seeing that everyone calls it Rugby League Football, it is a fucking stupid move. Wikipedia adheres to colloquial language, not whatever the fuck you want to call it. - Whilst I would not condone the tone of the anonymous user's post, he does have a point. It is not wrong (though unusual in the UK) to refer to rugby league as 'football' see Football (word) and it is quite the norm in Queensland and New South Wales. As long as it is clear that the reference is to league and not any other kind of football there is no problem. Still do not believe it, go down to your local football club and it is probably a Junior RL Football Club. Secondly I objected to the renaming, a redirect from Rugby League coach to Rugby League Football coach would have been adequate. Thirdly apologies again, I thought you had removed entirely the RL football thing and could not possibly understand why such a thing would be done. The best that I could understand was that you were trying to assert that it was not football which I deemed aggressive and petty-spirited. It would be best however to keep any redirect that sounds like that, capitals or no capitals. Fourthly I think that Rugby League should be changes to Rugby League Football.
